Finally....A channel that demos and reviews drum kits the way it should be done. It's hard to make a fair judgement when most reviewers gush over what they play because they are salespeople. Great job, guys.

This is the first video I've found where the cymbals actually sound like cymbals, and they sound great! Also, I love the honest review aspect of the video. I want more videos like this on more cymbals!
I just ordered the 15 hi-hats! I have the 20 inch crash, I’m currently using it as a crash ride, it’s perfect. I also love that it has a more bronze tone to it than other cymbals, beautiful to look at and play!
I very much appreciate the honest review that was given here. Especially regarding the 18-inch crash. I like the sound of that crash, but I can't help but agree that the harshness is kind of killing the what would have been a really nice cymbal.
I think the meinl byzance traditional line is the all around best line of cymbals in the world to my ears and cover every kind of cymbal and different weights thick and extra thin. You can use them for any style of music and the medium rides are just all around perfect rides, crashable, nice bow stick definition, and a good cutting bell but also very musical and finesse if u want them to be. The medium traditional hats are also perfect. I also have the pure alloy 18 crash and 15 hats which are nice but they don’t cut through like the traditional byzance line.
Good review again, with realistic and well balanced opinions. Would have liked to have seen more playing around the edge and crashing the ride, as well as more discussion of its sound there :)
Another Great review. I own 15" HH , 18" crash and 22" rid of this serie and you are spot on. I consider those cymbals very musical and very band friendly. I think they blend nicely in a mix but you will not stand out that s for sure. The 15" HH and the ride posses a nice tone and i really like them but I also agree that the bell on the ride is a true let down .
I had to sit and think for months before buying these. I have a set of MB10’s that I love, but they’re heavy, loud and old. When I finally bought a set of these, at first, I wasn’t sold. They took some getting use too, especially the hats. They’re very light, and soft. But so much more versatile than my MB10’s. I’ll probably keep some MB10’s for my punk rock thing, but these Pure Alloys are too nice to get rid of. Can’t wait to record them! The ride is miles better than my mega bell MB10. So musical! The thing about these pure alloys is they really leave room for your drums to sit in the mix. Who opens up their Kit anymore; with no bottom heads or muffling? Everyone uses bottom heads now, toning and tuning drums to sound as musical as possible. The MB10’s are just… LOUD. Real LOUD. These Pure Alloys allow for a far more musical mix, overall. Perfect for bands with great singers (Mavis Staples?). As for Iron Maiden sounding bands? No. Stick with the heavier and much louder cymbals.
oh, this "b20/hand hammered=pro/greatest possible" cliche.. this mythology erected by some companies is deeply wrong, imo, because it's the sound that matters, while the production method a company utilizes is what must bother you the least. these clearly sound top notch, and putting aside all the personal preference aspects, - these are professional level instruments. I've seen comments on these go like "it sounds so nice I actually can't believe it's not b20" and I just think to myself "why?.."
I could not agree more. Everyone hates on Sabian B8 cymbals for example...and they are mediocre cymbals by any standard. But Paiste has been making KILLER cymbals from B8 bronze for years...both 2002 and Giant Beats are amazing sounding cymbals and have been the choice of countless pro drummers. It has nothing to do with materials and everything to do with craft and care.
For me it just depends on the situation! I'd love something like these Pure Alloy or Giant Beats for my pop/rock band, but I play a lot of jazz and fusion and generally softer music. I like dry cymbals, and dark, dry B8 just doesn't sound good
They kind of sort of remind me of the old profile series and rakeER series. They've got that hammering and some leaving patterns like the old profiles and rakers. Good stuff but I still wish they bring back the old profile series
Superb review as usual on this channel. But, why big crashes are so trendy those days? I do prefer playing 14 and 16 ones, as the sound is not so overwhelming, and it visually matches my small 8 and 10 inches toms.

Hitting all the cymbals at 5:07 helped alot. I like to hear the crash and pitch definition between them. Thanks, well done video.

You are right Andy. The benefits of the Pure alloy is their price point but they cant compare to the Byzance in any way.
@@frozd58 in my opinion the hihats are actually high end sounding.

I love the discussion part so much. Keep up a good work and thanks for the great video.

These cymbals are amazing sounding! Even the big crashes sound amazing!!
Exactly my thoughts. Very nice Reviews all in all.
Being a 60 year old drummer I'm really digging the fact that nobody has mentioned the possible age of the drummer.
there’s not an age limit on drumming it’s all in the soul

They don't have the sizzle and bell character the Raker had. I own an 18" crash and 21" ride of the first generation (orange logos)

those are the best damn hi hats i ever heard
this drummer can do a proper presentetion
I actually really like those crashes!
I have been trying my best to like Meinl cymbals, but they just don't do anything for me. I'll stick with my Paiste Signatures thank you.
Good job by the old guy (I’m one too) on the Latin beat! As for the cymbals, I think they’re over priced.
so much better than byzance
Meinl should merge with Paiste. They seem to have a similar ethos when it comes to cymbals, and I think they would compliment each other well.
nah.
their fans would freak out haha. paiste fans and meinl fans can get very defensive of their stuff
@@calebfudrums Truu lol. I wouldn't mind it though, I'm a Meinl guy but love me some Paiste's as well.
Sound like giant beats
Sorry but that is one annoying snare
Good for the price
