These cymbals have me in an amazing mood, because they're exactly what I've always wanted in cymbals. I've always had my ideal thought of what a cymbal should sound like, and these sound like the cymbals in my head, haha. No more compromising on sound. I'm happy
Everybody is saying "Meinl's 2002s" but I think they're more like Signatures. The Meinl website has them listed as a special alloy. Not B8, not B20. At 2:07, Nick confirms this. Alloy developed specifically for cymbals you say? Hmmm, where have I heard that before... Oh yeah. Paiste Signature, 30 years ago. Either way, they sound great.
oblivionwalker861--I tried these up close and compared them to the Giant Beats.. Meinl can say whatever the heck they want, it's identical. I don't care what alloy they used, how the formed it, these are carbon copies of Giant Beats, plain and simple. I've been a Paiste user for many years, and collect vintage Paiste. The only slight, and i stress the word "slight", difference is that the Giant Beats are multi-functional cymbals which can be used for other applications other than what their title entails, making them lighter cymbals..These have that characteristic, but on a lesser scale. These are Meinl's version of trying to achieve that "vintage" rock sound. Paiste has their Giant Beats, which are an old series anyway, and then you have Zildjian with their A Avedis line which came out this year as well..
The cymbals are everything you said they were Nick. I Love your honesty, and your passion for playing.keep on sharing these wonderful products with us.
I watch you a lot. At first you are well spoken and a great salesman. But then I continued to watch to see if you could back up all your info? I got pleasantly surprised to see your a great drummer. Thank you for walking the walk, not just talking the talk. Now I watch you whenever I scan youtube. Thanks Nick.
@@schwedenretter not necessarily, lance just said in a video that he didn’t like paiste that much because their cymbals record well, but don’t sound too good in person, which doesn’t apply to the pure alloys, which sound fantastic in person, and even more good when they are in a mix...got nearly all of the, except for the 22 ride and the 22 crash...
You look as relaxed as I've ever seen , yet just nailing it . Tasty ! Cymbals , wish I had a music store near me to try em ! Thank you Nick ,and as always , you look like you're having too much fun !
Sean Zetterlund It's not the first time they've done it. In the 80s, the Profile series was very much a spin on the 2002s, same with the Raker series being their take on the RUDES.
Buttery and smooth sounds from this line. If only I could afford them. They sound like A Customs on steroids. Of course your playing makes planet z cymbals sound good.
Idk why everyone is hating so hard about them sounding similar to Paiste Sigs. Its not like these are the only cymbals they are offering? Sound a lot like the M series, very similar finish. They do sound like my Paiste Sig Mellow Crashes if anything. These are not as shrill as Paiste, more mid range for sure.
I have the 18 and it sounds great but does have a weird low to mid range wash that sits behind the very bright initial crash. I can't decide if I love it or hate it. Sounds amazing from a distance though kinda like old school paiste.
People being so butt hurt over this it's funny! What's up with everything having to be 100% original? I don't get that... For me these sounds like little less copper based 2002's, which makes them perfect vintage rock cymbals with just a little added warmth.
Nick, get it together maaan. Your just falling apart on me, get your self groomed better, C'mon man, your better than that. Ahh just kidding. Your awesome videos really inspired me to take up the drums at 59yrs. It was all your awesome licks you did on all the videos you make showing all the great drum sets you guys sell. I went with the Mapex studio ease 6pc. Birch maple, I love this set, and it's holding up quite well. Love you Maaaan!
Sounding great is incredibly subjective. They're good cymbals, yes. But do they sound great to your ears? Would the be great for the way you play? No one else here is going to be behind your kit. It's your opinion of them that matters here.
Hey, Parking Lot. That's a hard question. They are both great sets of cymbals, but they do sound a bit different. The Pure Alloy tends to be a bit warmer. Thanks again for your interest. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com
I know it's a year old, but I own 2002s and Giant Beats. 2002s are thick, loud, and bright. Giant Beats are thin, washy, and very shimmery. These pure alloys sound like they are somewhere in between. Here are the general weights for the 20 inch cymbals. 2002: 2500g PA: 2200g GB: 1800g
John Goodenberger nah they had Mb20 , Mb8 , Soundcaster custom ... they were all great , but all of these lines don’t exist anymore ( and there are also some good line in the Meinl Byzanz Series , like the briliant Series.)
WTF happened to Meinl? They used to have a wide range of stuff, unique stuff. I loved the Mb20 cymbals. Now, aside from these Paiste tributes, they just offer cheap crap (poorly at that) or byzance.
These cymbals are happy to be played by Nick.

Nowhere near as bright and sweet as the sigs imho. Beats sound like a good shout.
It’s b12.

VERY Paiste.
yes this hi hat sounds very much like my paiste 15" giant beat hi hat
Knowing you, that's a negative comment.
They sound like a beautiful mix between 2002s and Giant Beats.
And from a Paiste guy which I am, they're just.. WOW!
Isn't that just the Big Beats? Lmao I'm joking, these do sound great
You look as relaxed as I've ever seen , yet just nailing it . Tasty ! Cymbals , wish I had a music store near me to try em ! Thank you Nick ,and as always , you look like you're having too much fun !
They kind of remind me of old Zildians I had back in the 70's - wish I still had them. I really like the way they sound = Like traditional cymbals.
i cant help but love the color of the kit😂
Man, I'm totally digging these cymbals.
OMG What a beautiful kit! Yellow submarine Yellow submarine
Nick... Greatly appreciate your Drumming skills and knowledge. I'm becoming a fan of these Cymbals and Meinl Pure Alloy Custom Cymbals.
I think they are an inbetween of the 2002's and giant beats. Thicker than giants, but less than the 2002's.
Great sounding cymbals and that is some slick drumming. This video makes me want some.
Isn't pure alloy an oxymoron?
Jerry McKenzie I’ve heard some people say that too. I don’t understand what it means since I know nothing about cymbal production :/
An alloy is a mixture of metals, which by it's nature would not make it "pure".
But really, I'm just poking fun at their marketing.
Jerry McKenzie ahhh I get ya. And yeah I get the poking fun at marketing bit. I just didn’t know what all that meant. Lol
you do realize that an oxymoron in names are typical stylistic devices in the American English? :)
Meinl Pure Alloy China hi Mr China , are you sounding good ?
That DW kit sounds phenomenal.
Sounds like Paiste 2002's to my ears, with just a little more in the mids and less highs.
Yeah. I was thinking more like 602s? Nice cymbals in any case. Meinl makes a broad spectrum.
which I'm digging, as I always thought the 2002s were too high
Meinl's Paiste?
I thought that too. On the surface level, these do seem like Meinl's attempt to re-create Paiste 2002s haha
Sean Zetterlund It's not the first time they've done it. In the 80s, the Profile series was very much a spin on the 2002s, same with the Raker series being their take on the RUDES.
i think these are B20 cymbals and Paiste's are famously B8
I totally didn't know that, thanks! I'm fairly new to understanding Meinl's catalog, so the info is good to know!
I'm pretty sure only the 2002's are B8 alloy. The Paiste sig and other high end stuff is their secret formula of copper and bronze. I believe.
Buttery and smooth sounds from this line. If only I could afford them. They sound like A Customs on steroids. Of course your playing makes planet z cymbals sound good.
these sound like paiste signatures or 2002's i think ill stick with byzance duals and darks for now
So love the set of these I bought. Took some getting use too. Maybe 10 minutes? They're much lighter than my MB10's. Effin love em.
They look and sound like the successor of Meinl's M-series.
Really like the hats. maybe the 22" ride if he had it, but playing the 16 Traditionals now with a spectrum ride. Might switch it out.
Idk why everyone is hating so hard about them sounding similar to Paiste Sigs. Its not like these are the only cymbals they are offering? Sound a lot like the M series, very similar finish. They do sound like my Paiste Sig Mellow Crashes if anything.

i have a very lite touch and use lite sticks how well can i control the tone and volume with these
Greatest reviews. Ditto.
Meinl "Formula 602" lol
I love my formula 602s' so maybe that's why I think these are also cool?!
You know Nick...you kind of resemble the actor Costas Mandylor. Love your playing!
Holy athletic Jon Lovitz!
I love these for the same reason i love Paiste, so really I love just Paiste.

The crashes sound very close to classic 602 for me
Playing to The End is the Beginning is the End (parts of it sound like it)?
Meinl 602 series xD
do they sound great? I am really interested in the 18 inch Crash. Does it sound great?
Sounding great is incredibly subjective. They're good cymbals, yes. But do they sound great to your ears? Would the be great for the way you play? No one else here is going to be behind your kit. It's your opinion of them that matters here.
Playing yyz on that ride
What next? Paiste Byzances?
Meinl's version of Paiste Giant Beats..
How heavy are they?
Meinl pure alloy vs Zildjian k?
Good playing.
As a huge Meinl fan, I was a bit disappointed to see this be their focus of NAMM.
affordable, great sounding cymbals? how terrible
So what's the alloy???
Seth Boyd Following. My best GUESS is a B12 or B16 alloy.
**EDIT: Sweetwater has them listed as B20 bronze.
Its B12
Alright now I thinking of buying either the meinl pure alloy series or the paiste 2002 series. Can anybody help me choose?
Hey, Parking Lot. That's a hard question. They are both great sets of cymbals, but they do sound a bit different. The Pure Alloy tends to be a bit warmer.

@@johnnybgoode2333 I went with the meinl alloys but your input is still appreciated!
Are they b20????
No, B12
NICK: It sounds like MWAAAAH.
ME: Well, that's just silly. Cymbals don't sound like that.
[Nick plays cymbals]
ME: They totally sound like MWAAAAH!
Did you endorse by meinl cymbals?
Mmmm... A little TOO much Paiste-ish... :/
No such thing. Paiste puts Zildjian to shame.
Intro sounds like The End is the Beginning is the End by Smashing Pumpkins
Watch the drummer girl Sina Drums she uses this cool cymbal set! Listen to her drum covers you'll love it! ❤🙂 Great review!
“Pure alloy” makes no sense. It can’t be pure if it’s an alloy! Wake up drummers, you’re being lied to!!!
Haha Sweetwater doesn't carry these drums?
BenjaminGib They do but not in this color.
Que bateria linda!
IMO, the only good series by Meinl.
John Goodenberger nah they had Mb20 , Mb8 , Soundcaster custom ... they were all great , but all of these lines don’t exist anymore
( and there are also some good line in the Meinl Byzanz Series , like the briliant Series.)
Is it just me or they sound like meinl's equivalent of the zildjian A's? 🤔👂
The levels on the play along music are all jacked up. Too loud
Yellow drums!!!!! :) :) :)
There needs to be a hi hat Mic
Big Bird!!!!

German Pasties.
No thanks
