The greens are at about 12% right now and about 50% of the german population really hates the party, so i am not sure about that. I think it is a combination of regulations (the manufacturers might not be allowed to release combustion cars in the future) and investors that often focus on ESG criteria.

They're on a slippery slope though. They're getting rid of the A5/S5/RS5 coupes meaning literally no 2-door Audis anymore for the foreseeable future. And with the exception of the RS3 they're not exactly developing anything fun that anybody knows of either. They're also shying away from anything with an ICE and moving heavy into EVs, a decision that weirdly seems to only have any hope of being overturned by RIMAC. Rimac's CEO is the guy who convinced the VW group to not make the new Bugatti entirely an EV and made it a hybrid. I think hybrids are the perfect middle ground. Nothing against EVs either I think all 3 types of powertrains can healthily coexist so I don't understand why some manufacturers are pushing so hard away from ICEs knowing that that will be a swan dive straight into a dumpster in sales. Audi has almost always been a great brand and I love them but they're also in really risky territory right now.

Y’all are making it sound like car guys actually go out and buy new cars in reality. Most car enthusiast buy used cars because that’s what smart people do. Carmen manufacturers look at the planet earth and they ask themselves. How do we sell the most cars 10% of the planet is enthusiast and 90% of the planet just wants something nice….. of the points that you’re making are only applicable to 10% of people driving cars and the other 90% of people do not care and that is the lens that Carmen manufacturers are making decisions through because it’s better to sell 500 four-cylinder hybrids to soccer moms then it is selling 50 track focused specialty cars to enthusiast. The market for regular cars is just so much bigger and that’s where the money is most of these manufacturers lose money or don’t make a lot of money on track focused cars and if if they do make money on them, they probably cost more than your house.

GM stopped being cool when they killed Pontiac. Ford was pretty cool until they raised their prices on mustangs. Stellantis stopped being cool when they stopped making proper American performance cars. It’s just a damn shame. I’ll drive my firebird until the day it’s damn well taken from me.

although audi and porsche are cooking.

The new emissions laws and regulations have had a significant impact on certain auto brands. For instance, Chevy and Ford have been able to continue producing their flagship models without major changes. In Chevy's case, they even introduced a larger V8 for the new C8, thanks to their proactive approach to releasing EV and hybrid models to meet government-mandated MPG requirements. This has allowed them to balance out their overall fleet emissions and continue producing V8 models without issue.
On the other hand, Dodge faced challenges as they had not diversified their lineup with EVs or smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles. As a result, they had to discontinue their flagship models to avoid regulatory fines. This situation reflects the importance for auto manufacturers to adapt to evolving emissions standards in order to maintain their product lineups and continue serving their customer base effectively.

German car makers Opel and Borgward feel lucky as they aren't facing any heavy backlash like how the top 5 German car makers are facing, furthermore, Opel could never achieve a huge fame like Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen, so they have least or nothing to lose, meanwhile, Borgward is a short lived discontinued brand yet they made incredible cars in its era and has a decent fanbase.

The vast majority of people do drive or car about the AMG or the M cars. Those of us that do actually buy them and aspire to buy them one day. Alienating us won’t help because we ain’t buying these efficient, silent road warriors they keep shoving down our throats.

The Germans don’t do that primarily to take something away, furthermore they need to comply with harder and harder regulations. Every car needs to be more “ecofrendly”than the one before. This leads to downsizing, which leads to smaller engines.
And they want to save cost. Gone are the days with really iconic cars like the W124.

As some others mentioned, Porsche is generally sticking to their guns. They dropped the twin turbo V6 in the Cayenne S and returned to V8 power. Buuuuutt... They also dropped the Cayenne Turbo S [e-hybrid] in favor of the [significantly more powerful] Cayenne Turbo e-hybrid. I guess the Turbo GT kind of steps in for both the GTS and Turbo S. They also dropped the Panamera Sport Tourismo, which shouldn't have been made in the first place. From all outward appearances, it was literally just a Cayenne with a slammed suspension and a chopped top. Yet, it weighs more than a Cayenne.

The problem with German cars is they are excessively complex and they make them require special, harder to get supplies to maintain them. I drive a 2011 Jetta TDI/DSG. Costs around $700 to service the transaxle and the TCM cost $1500-3000 just for the part.

Love the descriptions said for the automakers.
BMW - sports oriented but luxurious
Benz - luxurious oriented but sporty
Audi - rally oriented but luxurious
VW - accessibility oriented but sporty
And the hybrid system in bmw making it super heavy just seems odd since Porsche just revealed their new 911 with a hybrid system that weighs ~100-300 lbs
And lets be honest, that 4cyl c63 is about to be the cheapest and or entry level c63 out there. Also audi is cooking with its rs series.

I feel like this is a common theme with the main 3 German automakers. They each have their own generation where they are on top and the other two are falling behind. Last gen it was all bmw with the M8, the F90, the F90 CS and the introduction of the B58/S58. The gen before that was AMG bc they still had that German muscle car feel even though they turbocharged their whole AMG lineup. Now this new gen will be Audi. It’s no wonder he didn’t include them at the beginning bc that’s just how the main 3 German automakers are, it’s just an endless cycle that’s been repeating for a while.

4 cylinder in an amg 63 is sick man, nothing wrong with more power from less cylinders. Think about the roots of the 190e evo and the e30 m3, those were both 4 cylinder cars aswell, They still have the v8 under the 63 badge for everything else.. if you really need a v8 jut get a bigger more expensive car. Even Ferrari has a v6 now. Driving is a privelege, we might as well try to cut down on fuel, or at least look like we're trying. The new c63 is still a bigtime gas user compared to a regular car... It only barely uses less fuel than the v8. As you said, these cars are the benchmark of performance and practicality, if you want more then you go for the flagship. The i8 had a 3 cylinder engine.. That was ten years ago. This isn't new either. You have to look at the silver lining rather than so negativity about how "horrible" your 700 horsepower race car sounds
