Hey Charlie, just passing through here again after going on keto for about two months and having just come off it a couple weeks ago. I'm over 30 pounds lighter now thanks to you and I feel just generally healthier than I ever have in my life. You're doing so much good for the world and I wanted to make sure you're hearing about some of it. Keep up the great work man!
you just saved my ass. Ive been doing keto for a week and a half, with almost no fat, almost solely protein. That muscle loss thing is super important.
Except keto is not healthy, there’s no long term studies on populations that follow a keto diet. The Inuit in northern Canada have what is probably the closest a ‘keto’ diet their average lifespan was 30 years old before they became westernized. The populations that live the longest all eat mostly a plant based diet with very little animal products
@@MikeyGrande Yes they do live the longest, but you know what all carb dominant diets result in, in those places where they live the longest? The highest rates of diabetes despite being "healthier" and not consuming excess calories. Keto is fine I've been on it since I was 17 (I'm currently 22) and I've consulted many of my personal physician and nutritional scientist friends and I get my blood work done 2x a year for everything. I'm not saying it's the ideal diet but you're also not being honest about the fact that diet isn't as simple as "all the fat" "all the protein" or "carb up bro"
Alexander Arias I haven’t heard that blue zone populations have had higher rates of diabetes do you have a link to that? And that’s good you are healthy. You’re also really young. If you are exercising and getting enough sleep you can basically eat McDonald’s and feel amazing and be ‘healthy’ for American standards. I was 100% allin on keto, eating grass fed beef, fish, bulletproof coffee etc. I tried eating a plant based diet and it wasn’t even close how much better I felt. Once again this is anecdotal but I highly recommend you watch forks over knives, what the health, or earthlings and re think diet a bit!
Mr. Mosby where in this video does he talk about keto being a short term healthy way to lose weight? Is there research backing that? Coccaine addicts are almost always skinny. Is that a healthy short term way to lose weight? The thing with these diets is once you go back to eating regularly you almost always gain all the weight back you lost on keto. Whole foods plant based diets are the future dawg
I actually started my Keto diet because of your video called food and exercise or something like that where you briefly talked about Keto being a pretty good diet. I didn’t understand it other than just what not to eat until this video though.
ßazelGames Almost everything can be interesting. It all depends on how it's presented. He presents it in a way that appeals to most of us normies without sounding too scientific, so it seems interesting.
No, this video is of poor quality. It doesn't mention how animal protein, which is a large component of the keto diet, illicits a strong insulin response, and how saturated fats form molecules called nonesterofied free fatty acids and cause damage to the cell's insulin receptors. This is how diabetes is mainly caused.
:| Meat is not bad and it's actually essential for the body but it doesn't mean you can't go without it you just need to take vitamins instead.Speaking of vitamins you most likely can do any shtty diet work if you add vitamins into the mix.
I lost 23lbs, my mood and energy improved greatly, and my insulin resistance went away. The doctor was chomping at the bit to diagnose me with diabetes but I took matters into my own hands. I kind of influenced a lot of people to do and they're seeing great results too. It took two years but I finally got my mom on board and she's lost weight too. Always an advocate of this diet.
@@HonsHon I disagree just based on the fact that some lifestyle changes aren't good ones. Anyway, I really liked keto because I was having blood sugar issues and this diet doesn't cause a lot of insulin production because it simply isn't needed, as I'm sure you understand. That really helped me feel better. I think my body just prefers a low carb lifestyle.
I went into this thinking it would be a joke but wow this was actually really helpful, I've been eating tons of fruit on my current diet and wondering why my nutrient levels were out of wack, do more in the future like this if you can please reeeally entertaining and straight to the point.
Gluconeogenesis is the process by which your body generates new glucose for the purpose of supplementing a deficit or recouping glucose from overproduction of pyruvate during glycolysis.
Bro I am not kidding; I am currently down 35 pounds on the keto diet, and my mom is down around 40 pounds. I weighed 268 and now 233, and I feel better than I have in years.
Water weight and constant caloric restriction is what causes weight loss on the keto diet. It isn't anything special, and is in fact deleterious for one's health as ketogenic diets are associated with a higher risk of obtaining cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.
True what if there is no caloric restriction but still lose weight? Cause that happens in keto. Also you might be confused, there are actually studies showing how keto helps patients affected by cancer, heart disease (reduces cholestrol) and diabetes (I can vouch for that, reversed my pre-diabetes diagnosis)
I've tried it, it was pretty good. I lost 25 pounds in a few months and was quite energetic and felt good. But it was way too hard to maintain on a daily basis, required way too much discipline and even took a toll on my social life (makes it difficult to go to the restaurant or eat with friends). So I quit after a year. And of course as soon as I quit I regained double the weight I had lost...
That's the problem with Keto, and a lot of either diets. They starve your main source of energy, so as soon as you start to eat regularly again, you will store every carb you get. You'll have to be determined with Keto.
I have no choice but to be keto because my body has issues processing carbs, and it's a big step in avoiding daily headaches...but the daily maintenance and social issues are definitely really challenging aspects of it. I can't leave the house for more than an hour or two without having all the food I'll need planned out. Don't even get me started on how much of a challenge something like going camping for a few days is. And the social issues....ugh. I pretty much don't go out to eat, almost ever. I constantly turn down food when people offer it because I know I can't have it, a notion many people aren't even used to considering. There are certain times I can get away with carbs, but they're rare and I can't exactly plan around them. So I usually just don't even try. Anyway, I just came here to say it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who experiences those problems from this sort of regimen. At least you had the luxury of choosing to stop....I can't. :/
I mean, you shouldn't think of it as a diet. As Charlie has said multiple times, you need to make it a lifestyle change, not go on a "diet," because that implies that you'll stop at some point. As for the restaurant, there are ways to at least lower your amount of carbs while at most restaurants (not eating bread, getting more meaty meals, etc.). I've been on the keto diet for a bit and made some good progress, but I understand that it's pretty difficult to maintain, because I struggled with the discipline part as well. But Charlie also said in one of his streams that the way he stopped eating shitty foods was telling himself that those foods only give you a very temporary happiness, but make you feel much shittier in the long run. This is just my 2 cents, but I hope you can get back on it and make it a lifestyle.
This is actually really well done. A better explanation that most health "experts." The whole process goes into a lot more technical detail but perfect for a simple explanation with some of the science.
For a channel that is not at all about nutrition, this is probably one of the most succinct and all-encompassing breakdowns of the keto diet I have ever seen. This video is honestly better at explaining what the diet is all about than just about any channel I have seen that talks exclusively about keto topics.
Was just on the phone with my gf and she was saying she might do a keto diet and then all of the sudden this pops up on my recommendations... love you moist
I never thought that I'd hear something so real in such a stupid way. When he said 'Fruits are like friends, but sometimes you gotta leave your friends behind to chase your dreams." I went like MMMMMMMMMMMM FACTS
This vid was pretty much spot on but the speculation within the scientific community is whether being in a state of ketosis actually helps people who don't have any problems. If you are a healthy individual who isn't overweight, doesn't have any cognitive function issues, doesn't have diabetes, etc the amount of effect from a ketogenic diet varies and for most its to an almost negligible degree. Most of the studies are preformed on people who do have some type of disease, disorder, acute problem etc. BUT, even if the effects are just placebo... If it helps improve your quality of life, makes you feel better, or gets you to/ keeps you at a healthy state, then by all means eat that shit.
purely anecdotal so don't take it as fact but because I was on keto for health reasons (I was pre diabetic) my husband (then boyfriend) started keto too. he confirmed the energy/focus effect about a month in after fighting against electrolytes imbalance but, funnily enough, we realised it must have a general anti-inflammatory effect cause he was asthmatic and on keto he never had to use his pump so in my very limited experience seems it affects health in general even for underlying conditions we sometimes don't pay attention too or are used to
I have T1D, and pre-diagnosis was a slow descent into misery. For a year prior i slowly lost weight, got more thirsty, all of those diabetic symptoms, etc. a couple weeks before diagnosisi weighed roughly 65 lbs (as a male teenager, that is not a very healthy weight). I eventually went into DKA and nearly died, but fortunately i was able to recover Since i was kind of forced to be on a keto diet for a year, and since it almost ended my life, i don't think i would even be willing to go on a keto diet (its never a good idea when you're diabetic anyway lol). i just made this to share my experiences with ketones, i've always viewed them as a negative, vile thing, so the topic of a keto diet is interesting to me, how people view it so positively with good results.
Just a couple misconceptions: fat actually gets stored as fat more easily than carbs, and when excess protein gets used as energy in your diet, it is only if you are in a state of energy depletion and it would only be the excess protein. You can't lose muscle from eating maintenance calories and high protein if you keep your exercise the same, no matter what your fat and carb intakes are.
Oh man it's awesome to see you do this vid.. I lost 35lbs on keto (15kg) in three months. I'm on the more protein heavy side though because of training but it's worked so well and actually got a two pack now. Some awesome recipes on TH-cam too. Only diet that's worked in the long run for me. Also quit drinking which is a bit of a bummer but can't knock the health benefits.
Dude I watched Zeino's upload about you and said when you guys did a collab, you only took 2 hours to make your part. I studied keto diet for about a month. And you cramming study time at 2hrs and getting everything accurate means either you already knew keto diet or are a genius
But insulin isn't a glucose transporter. It's basically an anti-diabetes hormone. It's there to tell the body to store the massive dose of glucose in the blood from your last meal. It's stored in the form of special sugars or as fat in your fat cells.
Only foolish puny 3-Dimensional carbon-based mortals whomst'd've'ly'yaint've the species of a human require the comsumption of sodium chloride and hydrochloric acid, especially when they absorb such in frequencies greater than or equal to one Steak n' Shake manager having a bad day
I know my experience is probably singular due to my struggles with an eating disorder but I remember when I told my nutritional therapist that I had been doing keto she got extremely concerned. She was extremely against the idea of any diet that would cut out entire food groups (i.e. carbs) and your food intake should be about a balance and mindfulness. I did lose a bit of weight on keto but to be fair I eventually quit eating anything more than a tablespoon of peanut butter a day, even though I started the diet pretty "healthy" (sausage/bacon and eggs for breakfast, 2 cups of salad with avacado/chicken/ranch for lunch, stuffed sausages and vegetables with butter for dinner). So while I did lose weight, I was treading into very dangerous territory for someone that already struggled with bulimia at the time. When I quit doing keto because it's not sustainable AT ALL (the amount of water and non-carb potassium you have to intake a day is insane) I gained all the weight I lost during keto and then some. Again - I struggled with bulimia so keto was very toxic with a severe restriction mindset and severe restriction will always lead to binges (that's why people who have cheat days end up doing a cheat weekend or cheat week). There is a good ending to my story - I've been in successful recovery from my bulimia for 2.5 years now with only one or two relapses along the way and after I finished therapy I did gain a significant amount of weight (roughly 55lb by the end of 2016). As of today I've lost 30lb of my "therapy weight" and I did it by simply eating mindfully. My nutritional therapist and I worked through foods that felt very safe and happy for me and would be easy to prepare since I had a demanding job and I still honestly ate "bad food" throughout that weightloss. I've never gone through a single period of weight gain while losing weight this way - I would plateau once in a while as normal during weight loss, but never gained a pound back. Even eating pizza or nachos or sweets once in a while! TL;DR - keto can work but be so very very careful if you are someone that struggles with food restriction, and keep in mind that some of the weight you lose is from "carb bloat" and will be put back on after you start eating more carbs again, even healthy ones! You can successfully lose weight through balance and being more active, and if anyone that read this is currently struggling with an eating disorder but you're afraid to tell someone- JUST DO IT. Please. If nothing else, listen to some podcasts at www.recoverywarriors.com/ because you are not alone. Eating disorders affect every gender and size, and you deserve to be healthy. Sorry for the long ass message I just felt super compelled to share my experience and if only one person reads this and decides to face their demons, it is so worth it to me. (P.S. I'm not trying to shit on keto diets, I know the work for many people - I just know that keto was a catalyst for my eating disorder getting worse and I simply wanted to provide a cautionary tale for those that may be predisposed to disordered behavior with food)
come from a ED too (actually same as you) and my specialist thought the same thing, the unfortunate things for me was that she suggested behaviour that pushed me to just binge on carbs... i am have been in recovery since december and at the moment keto as at least helped me cut off the insticts by making me care less and less about the food i'd go for, I can have my husband eating pizza next to me these days and that genuinely does not affect me (I literally lost a tooth to bulimia when binging and purging on pizza) but it's such an individual issue I am just glad you found a way that helped you get into recovery :)
Health is such a subjective and personal thing because everyone has a different body and different genetics. I'm glad you're finding recovery with keto and I wish you the most peace and positivity while you continue! It's not always an easy journey but it is so worth it. Hang in there, warrior!!!

Came for a joke. Stayed for some good nutrition tips
Once again this is anecdotal but I highly recommend you watch forks over knives, what the health, or earthlings and re think diet a bit!
these arent good nutrition tips...

I hope someone who knows nothing about this channel stumbles across this video, in search of information about keto diets.
Was thinking the whole way through
No, this video is of poor quality.
I love how professional this video looks visually yet has such a casual style of narration.
Any lifestyle change can make you feel better.

So, a diet where you literally consume about 2g of sugar a day increases risk of diabetes?
You must be very smart.

Kurtzgesagt got edgy 😂😂😂
I've tried it, it was pretty good. I lost 25 pounds in a few months and was quite energetic and felt good. But it was way too hard to maintain on a daily basis, required way too much discipline and even took a toll on my social life (makes it difficult to go to the restaurant or eat with friends). So I quit after a year. And of course as soon as I quit I regained double the weight I had lost...
thats good progress
That's the problem with Keto, and a lot of either diets. They starve your main source of energy, so as soon as you start to eat regularly again, you will store every carb you get. You'll have to be determined with Keto.
Remember that when you quit these diets not to immediately go back. Slowly ease it back in and increase exercise to minimize weight gain.

If it helps improve your quality of life, makes you feel better, or gets you to/ keeps you at a healthy state, then by all means eat that shit.
purely anecdotal so don't take it as fact but because I was on keto for health reasons (I was pre diabetic) my husband (then boyfriend) started keto too. he confirmed the energy/focus effect about a month in after fighting against electrolytes imbalance but, funnily enough, we realised it must have a general anti-inflammatory effect cause he was asthmatic and on keto he never had to use his pump so in my very limited experience seems it affects health in general even for underlying conditions we sometimes don't pay attention too or are used to
The keto diet is also recommended for people with Epilepsy to avoid seizures!
That animation was awesome! Nice job Zeino!

Dude I watched Zeino's upload about you and said when you guys did a collab, you only took 2 hours to make your part. I studied keto diet for about a month. And you cramming study time at 2hrs and getting everything accurate means either you already knew keto diet or are a genius
He has an IQ of 300 so that may be why
It's his degree like he said
But insulin isn't a glucose transporter. It's basically an anti-diabetes hormone. It's there to tell the body to store the massive dose of glucose in the blood from your last meal. It's stored in the form of special sugars or as fat in your fat cells.

You made something that's normally a complex topic seem pretty simple. Good job.
“Sometimes you gotta leave your friends behind so you can chase your dreams”
More than one lesson was learned today
