Got to see Prince in 2002 at a smaller theater. After the lengthy set, we headed to an even smaller community center and he jammed until 3 am, playing a diverse set that included Jimi Hendrix's "Red House" and Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love". What a fantastic, surreal night that won't be forgotten. It was Prince's 44th Birthday. R.I.P. Prince, you are truly missed.
I saw this years ago, I just love to see others react to it. 💜🕊️ I think his 2009 Montreux Jazz Festival Show 2 is my favorite Prince live show. Also when he perform Motherless Child.
GREAT reaction....Yeah...Prince was feeling the spirit on this one. Not quite 50 years old (38). But yeah.....classic performance from Prince the Great.
Rare when a band sounds better live than in a controlled studio... but that's just what you get with Prince and all of the musicians who played with him. Only the BEST! Iconic!
I would have been at this concert if it weren't for we had just had a baby a couple weeks before..... But I have been to a concert in the Syracuse Carrier dome. I had the great Fortune of seeing Pink Floyd there Spring of 95. It was the concert tour that had the giant Disco ball.... it was epic, the fireworks on stage were epic, and of course the music was epic. The place was packed to the gills and I was in the top section of the Central right of the stage. And even there the heat from the fireworks on stage behind them was enough to blow your hair back. I can't imagine what it was like closer. We were in awe and still are.
I’m with ya brother. I didn’t appreciate the unique and amazing one of kind musical talent he was. I just saw him as a quirky, talented pop star that occasionally had some good guitar in his songs. Never saw him live. So glad the recordings and videos exist. If you haven’t seen his Super Bowl performance in the pouring rain and ending with Purple Rain, it’s iconic. You should check it out. Price was famously quoted when asked about not performing due to the safety risk, he said “Can you make it rain more?” Truly a legend! This was an incredible performance too! Thanks for sharing! ❤
When Prince did the halftime show 2007 Super Bowl he had a purple guitar shaped like his symbol💜💜💜The super bowl was down in Miami & there was a rain storm.Prince played this in the rain.It was the perfect setting
RIP Cat! We still need you to rap! A salute to his band lineups since forever. Imagine learning his entire catalogue "just in case the boss requires something at the moment" (including stuff that was not even released) - then being ready for "boss" suddenly deciding to rearrange any of the songs on the spot in the middle of a concert. Prince was never the man who used a click-track that had to be followed by the microsecond. These were the days when one could read in the paper about his song list from the concert before without that information giving many clues to what we would hear (other than he would obviously centre around his latest album).
I was high school age in the seventies, the best decade of rock and roll. You should check out van halen running with the devil from 1978. This was the song on the radio that introduced us to van halen. Watch the live version. Warm up group four black sabbath ted nugent. Both of them said it was hard to follow them, they played.
Keep going with live Prince performances. People will recommend a ton of them and they'll all blow your mind. Prince was at this level pretty much every show. I saw him twice on his Purple Rain tour in 1984, he and all his band members were phenomenal.
I saw this concert 6 times (even got on stage for "Baby I'm a Star" in the last one; strangely, I got retroactive stage fright on the way home lol). 1985 was a great time to be 18 in L.A. 😃. EDIT: This was the last date of the Purple Rain tour and it was broadcast live worldwide on HBO, so that's why there were so many people onstage. It was just Prince and his band (aside from the people picked from the crowd to dance for one song right before this) in all the other shows. The whole concert was then released on VHS (and of course I bought it immediately). For context, at the time I worked in a record store that had a Ticket Master computer and also my best friend's father had a side hustle at the Forum, so it wasn't "normal" for the average 18 year old in L.A. to see this concert 6 times lol. (But we did camp out at the Forum overnight for one pair of those tickets 😁.)
Prince was a musical genius who combined classic instruments with modern synths like the Oberheim OB series and drum machine Linn LM-1. He used it wisely (didn’t overuse it) because the warm synth pads in the back add an airy spherical sound to his songs. Yeah, what a music decade that had musicians like Prince, Genesis, Dire Straits, Level 42, Saga etc. in the Pop music charts. Thx for sharing.
There are musicians who know the chords, scales, notes, etc. They can play anything, but they and you feel nothing. Then there are those, like Prince, who perhaps know all those things, but in addition they feel the music and, in turn, we do as well. Just watch your reaction. You went to church, bro. You felt something hit your soul deep. Prince is smiling wherever he is knowing that. 😊
🌸 Steven, I have to say how much I admire you because so many reactors it seems to me, they watch prince and they focus on and comment on things like"what was he gay or straight and why is he wearing so much makeup and what's up with his clothes?" none of that matters. Prince was Prince. and to me those comments are so petty and so ridiculous and you never do that. you honor the artist and you listen to the music and what they contributed to the industry and I just want to give you kudos for that.
Great reaction. Another thing is most concerts are the same everynight of a tour, maybe changing or adding a song but with Prince he makes almost a new show everynight. He could play this 4 mins one night and 12 mins the next. He could intro and play it on guitar one night then sit and do it all on piano the next. Theres no computer programming or anything, its just real music by real musicians. We need u to do even more prince reactions 😊
P.S. I'm grateful to hear you mention letting the song breathe. (Speaking of SRV) You've mentioned it a couple times, and it's important; I notice a lot of the young reactors get antsy and gripe about "long intros". Be patient, Grasshopper. Getting there is half the fun.
I didn’t realize for years that the album version of Purple Rain was recorded from a live performance in Minneapolis and was the first time they had all played the song live in concert. They cut out one verse in post production and made a couple of overdubs I think, but it is 95 percent live, which just blows my mind. I never would have guessed it. His vocals alone on the record are incredible, let alone his guitar playing and everything else. That performance is here on TH-cam as well, it was from August 3, 1983 at the First Avenue Benefit Concert in Minneapolis.
Prince has done a lot of epic performances. AMA's Superbowls.. etc.. especially Purple Rain.. This Is my personal favorite Live performance and the best one I have ever seen on TH-cam for sure.. This is the way Purple Rain was meant to be heard.
Can we also just take in that he was only 27 years old at this time!!! His talent, his artistry, creativity and heart is truly breathtaking. I will love him forever 💜
@@MDGB-ok2se You don’t agree? Purple Rain was his 6th album where he wrote, composed, produced everything on it. Not to mention leading a full band in incredibly tight performances. Pretty remarkable for a 27 year old who had his own record deal at 19yrs old 🤷♀️
Man! I miss this guy! Back in the day got to watch him soundcheck and it’s mind blowing! I got some of his guitar picks(got from his pocket)and I cherish them! Gave away a couple for auction for a couple of great causes! RIP!
Don’t even know who You are, But I love your Prince reactions. Please react to Gary Moore ” The Messiah Will come again” live. Talking about underrated gutarists, just my humble opinion. 💜💜💜 Prince 4-ever
Wow oh Wow! Like you said, buddy, this was an experience. And looking back on this now that he's gone, makes it even more emotional. One very small complaint is that the master was hard to see bc of the dim lighting. He is a combo of James Brown, Jimi Hendrix and possibly a few others, imo. The way he works that mic - it's like it's his b*tch! And that guitar is another part of his body that he plays with like a boy hitting puberty. 😂🤣 He put everything into this performance and I'm extremely sad bc I was going to concerts a lot during this time, (teens) and I just didn't get into him that much. But like I said in the last Prince vid you did, I never hear no shit like this on anybody's stereo. Purple Rain - the song and movie - yes. This here performance - no, I had no idea what was going on inside the Carrier Dome on this night. Or you can bet I would've been there. Been to this arena several times for shows. I saw Floyd there sometime in the 80s, the entire decade is a blur to be honest. But I digress - I missed out on possibly the most epic performance there has ever been. That how I feel about this video. I gonna go watch it again as soon as I can. RIP Prince. Probably the greatest artist to have ever lived and I wasn't even aware of it. My loss for sure.

This popped up on my feed while I was working, and I couldn’t wait to get the chance to watch it. You did not disappoint. I’ve probably watched this performance hundreds of times, and it was special watching with you. I love that you pointed out the uniqueness of his screams. No one scream sings like he does. An epic performance by a legend 💜💜💜
Love and miss him. Prince is my all time favorite artist, so talented and so diverse. I’ve always wondered where he got the name Purple Rain and often wondered if he borrowed or took inspiration from the song Ventura Highway by the band America where they use the lyric “Sorry boy, but I've been hit by purple rain”. 💜
Young man it is ok to just see him on video. Imagine if you will I only saw him live once in 1994 palladium NYC and i remember it like it was 2day. Small club Prince was a beast!!!
🇬🇧 I was a teenager (born in 1964) when this was first released..... I didnt get it! At all😮. Im 60 years old now........ I get it.... A little late i know, but i finally get it. Rip Prince 🎸🙏💔
Like you...one of my great regrets is never getting to see this absolute genius live. About 11 years ago he played a small club in Seattle (and my favorite venue). Tickets were something like $300 which was way out of my price range at the time. If I could go back in time...I'd tell younger me to just suck it up and pay the money. I wouldn't miss it now and I'd have that memory.
Love your reactions to Prince. Please keep digging for more gems…have you seen the I Wish U Heaven and The Cross performances from the Lovesexy tour in 1988? His vocals and guitar playing on these are unreal
I had just graduated highschool the previous year when this tour was on. I'd had my first apartment for a couple of months. I couldn't get tickets for the show thru Ticketmaster. So the day of the show Iwent to the venue anyway. I found a ticket scalper who'd charged me an outrageous amount for the show but I wanted to see Prince. About 3/4 towards the end of the show I ran into the ticket scalper who'd scalped me earlier. He told me he had been left with one ticket he could not sell. He said he used that ticket to see the show even though he'd never seen Prince. He said he went because I had been willing to pay his crazy price for the ticket. He kissed me and handed me back the 200 bucks Id paid earlier and thanked me for "making him a new fan" of the purple god!!❤
Hi there,I like watching your Prince reaction videos,Not to brag but I was in the movie purple Reign I was shown when the time was performing jungle love,if you blink you'll miss me,we got paid to be there at 1st.ave and they also gave us free cigarettes and a box lunch.😊R,I,P Prince the greatest musician of all time💜
@setonhillstudios If you weren't a super fan of guitar before one of his concerts, you sure were afterwards! He truly was amazing. I remember seeing the movie Purple Rain the first time at the drive in. BTW it was 40 yrs ago lol, I was 16 when Purple Rain came out and was already a Prince fan but the movie and the songs from the movie took it to a whole other level.
Yah it's cool and fun for the musicians. As a sound man (from before all the computer presets of today) that free play can make our job a real nightmare!!
First 😂 Let's Gooooo! I saw him live in Toronto in December 1984 .I was 14 and the show was restricted to 18 years and older because it was going to be Sexual. I begged my Dad for tickets for weeks and he finally said yes but said don't be mad if you don't get in just sell the tickets. We got in and the rest is history. So grateful I got to see him. It was so theatrical and their costumes were incredible. I get chills when I hear the crowd doing the woo hoo hoo cause I got to have the same experience. Let's Go Crazy is fire too. Great reaction and Peace out 🙏 ✌️ ☮️
I'm going to tell you all a story. I grew up in Minnesota with Prince. I didn't know him personally, but I worked with one of his basketball teammates from Minneapolis Central high. For a 5'2" guy he was good. I went to Little Falls High a town of 7,000 people and we just happened to have an all white basketball team that was the best in state. We beat Prince's team in the state Tourney by a lot. Anyway I moved to Mpls working two blocks from First Avenue the club where Prince rose to fame. A girl at my work tried to get me to join her as an extra filming the Purple Rain scene in the movie. At the time I didn't know what a great artist Prince was and turned her down. One of the biggest regrets of my life.
You have to listen to Pre Purple Rain (1999 album) a classic. Listen to Lady Cab Driver, and DMSR....ear candy...drum fills galore, thumpin bass by Prince.
Yeah, this is better. My late husband was a guitar player and read "Guitar Player" magazine, of course. He groused for years about an "interview" Prince gave one time-the interviewer gave up after a page and a half because "the guy would give only one word answers." Obnoxious. It would be a dealbreaker, but the guy was so f*cking talented. All my friends were gay, so I heard Prince when "Little Red Corvette" came out. It was fascinating to watch him grow as a musician. Such a tragic loss. Just like with Freddie and SRV, oh, would could have been. Love your channel!
If you liked this please please watch his Superbowl Halftime Show that fortunately I was able to be there and witness. As he sang this, it started to pour in Miami. It was simply spiritual to experience!!! FYI, it wasn’t 50 years ago. Don’t age us old peeps too much😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
he was such a good musician...check out his participation in While My Guitar Gently Weeps at the George Harrison Tribute th-cam.com/video/dWRCooFKk3c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=eVgZripc6DKhsXw0
It was 16 minutes of absolute brilliance… I can barely listen to him anymore. It’s just too painful…I had to turn to heavy-metal to heal.😂 😂 And now I’m obsessed with Metallica, and by association, lovecraft
Though it’s an abbreviated version, the performance of Purple Rain from his first Arsenio Hall Show appearance in 1991 is still one of my favorites. I like this one but the guitar is a bit too high in the mix.
Ok I’ve got a request just so I can learn what kind of instruments are making these sounds so I’m coming to the pro to inform me -The group is NO DOUBT and the song is :KEEP ON DANCIN ?? Thank you

Saw this concert live in Cincinnati mid 80's! Amazing!❤❤❤
I believe that Barbara Mandrel was the master of many as well.
This performance… it’s spiritual, nothing and no other live performance comes close to this recording.
I don't care how many times I hear that, I still get goosebumps and I was there at that Syracuse concert 😢😢
There will never be another PRINCE!!

We LOVE The Purple One. Prince was a musical genius. He was aa master of 26 musical instruments. No one like him before or since.
Got to see Prince in 2002 at a smaller theater. After the lengthy set, we headed to an even smaller community center and he jammed until 3 am, playing a diverse set that included Jimi Hendrix's "Red House" and Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love". This is my favorite performance of this song. I get goosebumps every time and depending on my mood it makes me cry too. 💜💜💜
I saw this years ago, I just love to see others react to it. 💜🕊️ I think his 2009 Montreux Jazz Festival Show 2 is my favorite Prince live show. Also when he perform Motherless Child.
LOVE your Prince reactions !!! 😊

🌸 saw him live in Seattle 1984.. indescribable!!
To see someone be in the moment excelling in their chosen art form with such depth of feeling is an inspiration and joy to behold.

Empty Room/Elixir live in Montreux would be a great one to react to.
Empty Room would set it off. That version at Montreux is my favorite version, and especially the guitar solo. 🤘🏾🤘🏾🔥🔥🔥
He did the half time superbowl years back it was insanity 🔥
Prince was a force. Amazing composer, lyricist, dancer, guitarist, and sexy one. All in one! He oozed sensuality, even through the guitar.

The Purple Yoda from Minnesota gave his all at a concert, always. A favorite of many is Prince on piano, singing "The Beautiful Ones".

Please tell me you watched his performance at the Super Bowl. One of the very best halftime shows, AND IN THE RAIN.
Love your reactions to Prince. Please keep digging for more gems…have you seen the I Wish U Heaven and The Cross performances from the Lovesexy tour in 1988? His vocals and guitar playing on these are unreal
I haven’t but thanks for the recommendation and hanging out!
Huge Prince fan - feel so blessed I got to see him in 1986 front row seats 😮
Love princes music. Well most of it.
What?! That’s a wild story!! Absolutely love it! 💜
💜💜💜
He lets the music breathe…..he lets it breed…..
It was 39 years ago.
It's my belief that this guitar solo blows eruption out of the water
Both are EPIC!! 🔥🔥
Hi there,I like watching your Prince reaction videos,Not to brag but I was in the movie purple Reign I was shown when the time was performing jungle love,if you blink you'll miss me,we got paid to be there at 1st.ave and they also gave us free cigarettes and a box lunch.😊R,I,P Prince the greatest musician of all time💜
What?! That’s definitely something to brag about! So awesome! 😁
Phenomenal, absolutely phenomenal!👍
💯💜
Yah it's cool and fun for the musicians. As a sound man (from before all the computer presets of today) that free play can make our job a real nightmare!!
Absolutely! 💯 😁
Great reaction and Peace out 🙏 ✌️ ☮️
🌸 and he always engaged the audience participation
Wow!! That’s crazy! Thanks for sharing! 💜
💜☔️
His talent is absolutely out of this world for sure! It’s so sad that their lives were all cut short! 😞
I was always a fan of his music but even in my fandom, I didn't fully appreciate his talent.
😊❤
If you liked this please please watch his Superbowl Halftime Show that fortunately I was able to be there and witness. As he sang this, it started to pour in Miami. It was simply spiritual to experience!!! FYI, it wasn’t 50 years ago. Don’t age us old peeps too much😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
🤣😂🤣
Is that a Hohner Madcat in the background?
Don't you love when Prince takes you to church.

he was such a good musician...check out his participation in While My Guitar Gently Weeps at the George Harrison Tribute th-cam.com/video/dWRCooFKk3c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=eVgZripc6DKhsXw0
The Super bowl half time show in Miami is epic.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Every performance is unique…one of a kind…he never did the same thing twice, that would have been boring - predictable.
Thank you
P.P.S. Holy shit, that was 24 minutes?! Hm. Didn't feel like it.
Definitely a long one! 💜
You need to learn to count. Man don't make me older than I am. It's 40 years man.
Haha 😂 My bad!
Best screamer is Janis Joplin but he's not bad for a man. 😀
She throws it down too!! 💯
Mate..., your math is a bit off...
1985 was 39 years ago...
