@@grandad.reacts I heard him live and he was even better. But back in the day. Live music was not autotuned like today's junk. What you don't understand is when people went to concerts until maybe mid nineties, they sounded just as good as studio version. That's what I mean by no autotune. There is no comparison to the artist in the past century to today's lack of talented artist. That people accept rap as actual music. When all it is is talking to a beat with a bunch of foul-mouthed language and scenarios. My opinion, Bern around a long GG time.
Wait til you see him live! I started following you because of your Pink Floyd reactions. PF is my all time favorite band. But Prince, Prince is considered to be the best musician in the world. He was a multi instrumentalist. And a master at them all, to my knowledge. His live shows are epic. He can break dance while singing perfectly. Everyone in the band puts on a show. It’s a beautiful spectacle. I don’t know that we will ever have another talent like Prince again, ever.
What most people miss is that the opening lyrics of "never meant to cause you trouble" was referring to his relationship with his father, "weekend lover" was referring to at the time his relationship with his girlfriend and "say you need a leader" was referring to his band planning on going their separate ways.
“Purple Rain” was initially conceived as a country-inflected duet with Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks, who turned it down, claiming Prince’s vision for the song was “too much” for her. All that’s left of its country origins is its evocative title - which Prince lifted from the song “Ventura Highway” by the folk-rock group America, of anonymous-horse riding fame (A Horse with No Name). The transition from country to atmospheric stadium rock wasn’t instigated by Prince himself, but by Wendy Melvoin, the 19-year-old guitarist in his backing band, The Revolution. During rehearsals, she hit upon the indelible opening chords, inspiring Prince to take the song in a completely different direction. After six hours of non-stop practice and experimentation, “Purple Rain” was all but written.
Oh, I just saw why I subscribed!! Your reaction to “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing”. And Yes, growing up with artists like “Prince”, “AeroSmith”, “ACDC”, on and on… was BEAUTIFUL! He did this song live at a halftime show for the Super Bowl, unbelievably while it was pouring down rain. It's a video you can search for to view, it's almost better than this 'studio' version which is taken straight from his movie, yes, called Purple Rain.
This movie is a must see for ANYONE who loves Prince. The 80s were a great time for music. This song was written by Wendy and Lisa who are actually part of his band and honestly the first openly LGBTQ. We miss our Prince... Growing up in the 80's on Minnesota we know we had something special, we are glad the world got to love him, but I can speak for myself where I did not appreciate him enough... Had friends in that crowd and they said they never experienced anything like it... what a talent!!
It still makes me wonder how Prince basically an unknown artist came out with a movie and Album in 1984 it is just unheard of. But what a talent he was singer guitarist and a musician. Hard to believe this song is already 40 years old (1984)!!! Very first commercial album released on CD, first only to radio stations!! It was hard making the transition from cassettes to cd's!! Took me years ;-) You should see the movie!!!
Have to “fact-check” someone’s comments🙏🏽💜…I’ve followed and researched Prince since 1978. Purple Rain was inspired by his parents strained/abusive relationship and Prince’s tumultuous relationship with one of the few women Prince genuinely fell in love with - Denise Matthews, a gorgeous woman from Niagara Falls, CN who was biracial, German and Nigerian ethnicity. She was a muse and lover during the mid eighties. Prince designed an entire group around her and renamed Denise “Vanity,” with groups name “Vanity 6.” Their music can also be found on YT. The actual opening lyrics - “I never meant to cause you any sorrow, never meant to cause you any pain,” … refers to his both parents as they both were abusive to each other and Prince and Denise’s relationship which was also fraught with turmoil, distrust, confusion due to Prince’s inability to “commit” and his “harem” of women he openly flaunted and expected to cater to him and accept each other’s hierarchy within the situation. Denise of course was disappointed/distraught/disillusioned. She quit the movie and left Prince’s camp during the early casting and rehearsals. This is where her replacement, #apolloniakotero enters. The stanza: “Honey, I know, I know times are changing…It's time we all reach out for something new, that means you too…You say you want a leader, but can't seem to make up your mind, think you better close it and let me guide you to the purple rain;” - does not refer to “the group.” It refers to we as people, being confused about our faith, our religious beliefs…turning to different idols/false prophets/ to sooth our spiritual emptiness. Prince alludes to(in the lyrics;) to let one’s faith bring you back to the true creator/ GOD … at the end of the world, so that your soul can rest in heaven - the “purple rain” of “spiritual peace and tranquility.”

Real Music... There will never be another one like Prince. RIP.
Princes’ masterpiece. He performed this song during the Super Bowl in 2007 while it was raining. 😊
The 80’a were incredible, so lucky to have grown up in that decade.
Let's get this straight. Prince was THE WAY for popular music in the 80s. He led, and all the other musicians followed.
Even into the 2000s with songs like "Uptown Funk", the Minneapolis sound is still going.
No autotune. Prince, the purple genius. Played 37 instruments, self taught, wrote, danced and produced music.
What you think he's singing this live? Prince was a talented genius, but this has been auto tuned and processed,
