My favorite zone is the DOG ZONE - it's basically the same as the general colonist zone, but instead of having access to the food and fridge, they have access to a separate corpse fridge where they haul all the raider corpses. I like to have a lot of dogs, so this way they kind of feed themselves, nibbling on the frozen raiders.
That is a good one too, for sure. I like having a lot of dogs/hauling animals as well and will sometimes make their own hauling zones to reduce filth and save on food.
One zone I will use that you didn't mention is an "Animals outta the way" zone. For the animals I don't want to risk in a raid who would normally be allowed in the combat area for hauling. I restrict them to some out of the way area of the base for their safety.
That's a good idea. I've started just putting any non-combat animals into the 'Toxic Fallout' zone when battle starts. Though this isn't feasible if the enemies fell into the base in drop pods. Hmm, I may make a barn zone again going forward for sure!
lol, I find the best strategy in RimWorld is to protect your colonist's hurty spots while simultaneous hitting the enemy in their hurty spots. Works wonders!
I keep a zone called "the corpse drink". It's a zone out in chest high moving water that I throw rotting corpse in to get rid of them. It helps break them down quickly and gets them out of my hair.
I do the same thing with a dumping pile/zone, especially early game. Unless I am feeding an army of dogs or such, then I throw them in the ol' corpse freezer. :P
3 Labradors just joined our colony, and I've been flailing around on my own trying to keep them from eating what little prepared food we have for like 30 minutes now. Thank you for this. Looking forward to keeping them out of the freezer
I just had a cat turn into an alcoholic because I restricted him from the food areas, but he got into the beer I had laying around Cat for supper the next day
An update since this video was made allows you to order drafted pawns to tend injured pawns on the spot, so the field triage doesn't need a zone or sleeping spots, now. If you're playing with no-pause, this could be an exception. With toxic fallout, you can go outside for short periods of time, because there are no permanent effects if the buildup stays low enough, and it goes down over time. Changing zone assignments based on their current toxic buildup lets you get important things done, while making sure no one pawn gets too much.
There's definitely always 'a mod for that'. These videos are more about unmodded, though. That one is a good one to grab for anyone wanting to go the modded route, though!

My zones setup is quite simple, here is what I use (I don't surround base with walls neither use killboxes): * home - under the roof - for dedicated cleaners, toxic fallout, hiding in case of raids and more (e.g. drug withdrawal) * hospital - to put doctors & cleaner there after huge raids * "not home" - to prevent large non-pen animals from eating my plants & dirtying my house * unload - to avoid catching elephants all over the map after caravan arriving :) for combat, it's much easier for me to manage drafted pawns instead of zones for mech clusters, I usualy just forbid large area around, so my pawns have no need to go there (to haul some random plasteel or gathering ambrosia and such)
Huh. I have barely used zones for anything. This gives me idea to keep my non-combatants (Highmates and children are annoying) from wandering out of safety when I know combat is coming.

It is okay for them to do so a little, as long as they don't go much past 'initial' on the health screen. Definitely make an allowance zone for those times, though, and be sure to set everyone to that zone.
They will get that if they aren't wearing a shirt layer and pants layer. Well, depending on if you have Ideology or not and what you have set in there for their clothing precepts.
