@@Snoot_TV It's a great video with a nice mix of the most solid all-time mods and some nice-to-have newer mods. This video is amazing, i haven't played rimworld in almost a year and wasn't sure how to get back into it with modding, this helped a lot, saw a lot of mods i'd never heard of before, but made a couple questions come up, is the Prepare Carefully mod no longer needed to pre-edit colonists or is it personal preference not to use it, is a mod manager not needed anymore, are multiplayer mods working much better these days with sync errors with certain mods, and are the Harmony/Lib mods still necessary for mods? Sorry if it's a lot of questions, i just don't wanna spend hours trying to get things to work.
* Prepare Carefully can be problematic from a code perspective, Character Editor will allow you to do about the same and is far safer * The built-in mod manager is decent, but I've been using the Rimpy Mod Manager, BUT I'm not sure if it's still being supported, wish I had a better answer for you on an alternative (they exist, I've just no checked them out) * Multiplayer mod is great but still suffers from occasional de-sync, especially if you're running mods. The less mods I run, the less de-syncs but it's still not PERFECT * Harmony/Lib mods still necessary to run most mods, yes
@@TheWorldOfKilladrix * Is character editor a recent addition to the game or am I just being forgetful? Prepare carefully always felt kinda janky but I think we used it cause there wasn't any better options, it's been long enough that I'm not sure. * It's ok, an answer at all is fantastic, I appreciate you taking the time to respond, I'll just stick with rimpy if it's what you're using and it seems to work. * Glad to know multiplayer mod is at least still functioning, I don't think this time around I'll be using nearly as many mods as I used to so it should be fine, I plan on trying it with just the mods you listed here to see where it goes.
I'd have to dig around to find/recall the specifics but my understanding from people whose opinion I trust is that Prepare Carefully modifies the game files in a way that may be harmful to your save and/or corrupt data. Some people have used it forever with no issues, some people haven't. Seems like a hotly debated topic so your mileage may vary. As a TH-camr with a decent sum of subscribers and a large part of the Rimworld viewer base, I think it's mildly irresponsible to include TPS nuking mods without some massive warnings. Dubs has a server dedicated to investigating and troubleshoots TPS killing mods (and memory leaks) called Dubs Mods, and several on this list cause problems.
While I completely understand the point you’re making, I hate the entire conversation about mods that “nuke” your TPS simply because experiences vary so wildly. I’ve got 6,000 hours in the game with the last 2,000+ of them with most of the mods in this list and I’ve had zero issues with TPS so putting warnings about outcomes that a player might not even experience may deter them from trying a mod they might otherwise not have issues with. I don’t want to be the arbiter of what mods people use or how they use them unless they alter the game data in ways that have the potential to corrupt a save, in which case I wouldn’t even advertise them.
@@TheWorldOfKilladrix I mean, you're suggesting it's not a thing. Dubs has been in the community a long time and has created MANY mods. This isn't a "scare", this isn't an "experience varies wildly". This is a "This mod causes problems provably with tools designed to literally detect these things." Mods that cause memory leaks don't magically *not* cause memory leaks because someone's got a 4080. Mods that add jobs don't magically not slow down the game whenever your pawn checks what next job they need to pick. I wasn't aware of this for *years*, and now that I've been looking into things more, I can get 300+ mods to work utterly smoothly for once.
Again, respectfully, I understand your concerns, but for anyone for whom ANY of these mods are new are PROBABLY not going to the Dubs Discord to read through the threads detailing the impacts of these mod on their TPS. I've used Dubs Performance Analyzer myself and I fully understand that we can quantify the impacts of mods in terms of overhead and memory leaks. I know I'm sample of one here, but I've livestreamed *literally* thousands of hours of gameplay using almost every one of these mods (some I add/remove depending on the run), and have never a single issue with endgame TPS attributable to any of them with a reasonably sized modlist. If I were detailing mods with far greater overhead that HAVE forced me to struggle with TPS (Vanilla Psycats Expanded, VFE: Empire, etc.), I'd 100% place a warning.
