I wanted to say that I think that "Little People Big World" did a lot to make people more aware of dwarfism and to know that it's not a freak show.

It's worse coming from a parent. It took me till I was in my 50's to know I was being emotionally abused by my mom. I tried and tried to make it a healthy relationship. My family turned on me and accused me of being the abuser. During all this my mom actually said to me: When you were born we prayed and prayed that you would live, but if you had just died, none of this would be happening right now. I was born with Spina Bifida. Needless to say, I have gone no contact with my mom to keep myself safe, and I still have family members that don't speak to me. All very sad, especially when your family is who you should depend on to have your back.

Sadly, people can be cruel, I know first hand just how cruel they can be. I suffer from a physical disorder called Nurofibromatosas . I had someone once say to me ,"If I looked like you , I wouldn't go out in public." I have people stare at me and make comments. 😢

I could so relate to Kevin and Danielle. I was born with Spina Bifida and remember while growing up saying to my mom over and over......I will NEVER marry someone with a disability! Guess who came into my life.......a man who is paraplegic. I KNEW the night I met him I was going to marry him, but I fought and fought. Just months into our marriage it just clicked! I had someone who could relate to me and "get" the troubles that come along with having a disability. 5 days ago we just celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary!!

wouldn't it be better if parents were proactive and educated their kids (through media/books/real life experiences) so random people wouldn't have to be walking teachable moments and could go about their day uninterrupted? so we should be pushing for more authentic representation in the media.

I'm 53 years old born and raised and still live in Northeast Tennessee. My family and I grew up on a small working farm in a very rural town. One of our neighbors was a family that consisted of an average height grandmother and her daughter and 2 grandchildren with dwarfism. We were friends with them, we went to school with the grandchildren. We knew they were different, but we didn't care. We felt comfortable asking them questions. I can't imagine ever telling anyone they shouldn't have been born. We are all perfect creations in the eyes of God.
We had a unique childhood as we also had a neighbor who was hearing impaired who taught us sign language and a Hispanic neighbor who taught us spanish and made fantastic tamales. I think my mother did a fantastic job exposing us to people who were different from us. She always told us to treat people as you want to be treated. I consider that a true blessing.
    Continued blessings to your family❤

As someone who lives with a physical disability I know firsthand how cruel and mean people can be. I had someone once tell me " If I looked like you I wouldn't go out in public "😢 But one day I had a Mom explaine to her young daughter who ask me about my disability "Thats the way God made her" . The little girl thought that was cool. Kids can be way more kind and accepting than most adults. ❤

That happened to me when my daughter was like 4 or 5. I am a average height mom. One time I was at the Mall w/ my daughter. We were exiting a JCPenney store in the mall and encountered a severely handicapped young child in a stroller w/ his parent. My daughter, very loudly, says "mom, why does that boy look like that?". I quickly said "well honey, God makes everybody different, with different abilities". (I wanted to cry!) The parent smiled and spoke to my daughter explaining her sons condition. And thanked me for speaking up and explaining..

This was an amazing hour! I don’t know how to articulate it best and succinctly. I am 82 years old but 20 at heart! Honestly, I have never met nor seen a person live with dwarfism. I already have learned from you, Zach & Tory, so much since I first discovered you some time ago. And today you and your amazing guests raised the bar even higher to reinforce a basic human concept: this is a life given to us and everyone else, “. . . we better live the heck out of it!” as I heard you saying. It’s so simple, so true, . . . as a guiding teaching and learning principle of all aspects of life and any stage of life. If we all understood that, then there could not be war! I wish I would have been that wise as a young mother but I sure am still actively engaged with my teen & young adult 6 grandchildren (17-22) to focus on and be openly mindful in sharing what I learned and am still learning about life as I have a marvelous relationship with each and noted that my life philosophy is beginning to be noted. Thank you from the bottom of my (young 😂) heart!!

Great podcast today! I love your approach to people staring, or rude comments/questions made, and how you respond. It just blessed my heart! Our daughter has Down Syndrome, and we get stares and sometimes hear whispered comments. I think God helped us handle most of these with much grace. I am so glad I never got to hear too many hurtful comments. It's wonderful that we have a very supportive family and church. A friend of mine told me that once someone had told her that I should have never had our sweet girl. She shut that comment down really fast! We are all created for a purpose, and God can use us all for His glory! Blessings on you!😊❤

Zach was trying so hard to get his point across, but I’m glad he finally got it out. I was starting to speak too soon before he finally straightened it out. Knowing his opinion from the last time, I understood where he was going, but for a new listener, it would have been difficult to know exactly what he was trying to say. Well done. Thank you.
I just want to add a perspective on the whole dwarves living out in the middle of nowhere idea:
Man camps are a thing, even in today’s culture. When miners go and work an area, often it’s in unsettled territory, so wives, girlfriends, and children stay home or in town, while the men live in man camps and work. Our town was once filled with man camps when there was a coal production explosion back in the 70’s & 80’s. A town an hour away was formed from it once being nothing more than a man camp in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s.
So the seven dwarfs, living on their own out in the middle of the woods, not far from the mine they worked in, is not a strange thing at all. At least if you know the culture. Similar man camps exist for oil field workers as well. Even today. So this is my take on why the dwarves lived so far away from society as a whole. They weren’t being shunned or such, they were just working a job. Living near the mine makes more sense then walking hours to the job site.
So hopefully this gives you a better understanding of why Snow White stumbled upon the house full of male dwarfs with no women to tidy up the place in the middle of nowhere. It’s not necessarily keeping dwarves out of regular society, it’s just men working a job.
I hope this helps it make more sense. And telling a back story of the dwarves as to how they all came to be who the each are and how they came together, sounds like a wonderful idea. I’d watch it.

This podcast was super great to listen to. I really enjoyed it, even the sad parts.. Kevin I'm so sorry. That lady had no right to say that to you. You're perfect just the way you are in every possible way. Keep shining your light , bright and strong because you deserve to be here on this earth to help make a difference in whatever you chose to be or who you are exactly suppose to be. Dwarfism/height ect shouldn't make you have to feel like your less than anyone else. Every single day you serve a purpose.Thank you Danielle,Kevin, Zach and Tori for this podcast.

I love your podcast. I’m short at 5’ and have been picked on many times for my height. You all add a level of awareness and acceptance of people who are different. I so appreciate your messages. (I was selected to be an Ompa Lompha in a play due to my height. )

I’ve been picked on for being short as well! (5’1 also!). I also had a Lazy eye in 7th-8th grade. I was bullied horrendously!! (I’m 57 now!) it was awful! I had moved from Colorado, to Park City, Utah where everyone was privileged and spoiled. My Dad had taken a job to help manage a struggling ski resort, and get some new Condos up and running. So I was the new kid in town. I was the TARGET!
There was a locker search at my middle school the 3rd week I was there, looking for drugs. Because the popular kids parents would give them pot! 7th GRADE!
I ended up having corrective lazy eye surgery halfway through 8th grade!
Well, my lazy eye is back and really bad! I also have deteriorating teeth! The teeth all need to be pulled and I’ve decided on dentures, because I don’t have any $$ for a full set of teeth! (Implants) being bullied at any age is awful!

And truely showed us how you manage life and that your are just the same as everyone else. Not that we didn't know that already but just hadn't seen it, your parents confidence is a gift to us.

How boring would it be if we are all the same. The outside package does not a person make personality 👏. I wish you all a joyful life

Growing up as a little person, I always knew I was a bit different from everyone else, but it didn't really hit me until I couldn't keep up with all the physical stuff everyone else was doing. Marrying another little person never crossed my mind, 'cause I didn't really know many folks like me until a family friend invited me to this convention. That's where I met Zack and the Roloff crew, and let me tell you, it was epic! Being around people who understand your struggles is a whole different vibe, especially when you're in your early teens and just craving some healthy competition.

I enjoyed listening to this pod cast and learning more about you all. Blessings and keep up the great job you are doing in teaching the rest of us to see you as a blessing to anyone that has the chance to meet you and learn from you. I grew up in Mexico, not many people with dwarfism. I was in Reno Nevada about 20 years ago when there was a conference with people with dwarfism. My husband and I where there for a social security conference and he went to play golf with his work friends and I went to have breakfast on my own. I got to sit with one lady with dwarfism and had a great time visiting with her. It was a blessing and I enjoyed my time with her. Blessings and keep sharing your life with the rest of us. I am a 65 year old wife, mother and grandmother.

Resonated with this a lot as a 6'2 female. Comments and questions from strangers, photos being taken when out (especially if I am with someone else tall), and that self-questioning when young will I date someone shorter than me. Found this very interesting. Also, my dad had to lift my bathroom vanity like you had to lower your kiddos vanity. Neat to relate on opposite ends of the height spectrum.
