Love the stock hellcat air box design it is the best intake for the scat. However the higher flowing filter idk know about. That’s afe’s air filter? Or the fram OEM hellcat air filter? The oiled filters screw sensors up and it’s a misnomer to that they flow better while becoming clogged faster needing more frequent cleans. Infact the best flowing air filter for this is the one that came in the older hellcat models. They flow more cfm. B mason has a video on all the specs vs a k&n drop in which I believe is comparable and the same style you dropped in. I’m sure the gains are minimal but every little bit counts right. Apparently srt did their home work because I’ve been at this with my cat for a long time. Would like to switch to a demon hood but have the older style with different intake sensors which screws me from getting a newer hood intake OEM intake to gain even more as that system was designed to work with 18 and newer hellcats but it is better. Excellent video once again man. Just some things I’ve learned that work better on the cheap. Hope it helps someone.
@@skyshreet3 sorry man I don’t. his videos are weird because they aren’t titled as 1 thing but in at-least 4 of his videos in the past I’ve watched he has stated these facts. It’s the stock hellcat 15-16 paper fram drop in filter. Sorry don’t have a part number but you can find it on any mopar store. Just put in you have a 16 hellcat and look for air filter OEM. Get the part number and then search for a cheaper one else where. Cheaper than a oiled filter less problems and more flow. Only down fall is you have to replace it more frequently. Hope that helps.
For more cold air... there's a plastic tube duct that feeds your left front brake in your fender it runs from your lower grill to your splash shield , to remove the duct, remove your air filter box , reach in down in the intake hole and pull on the tube , a section of the tube will come out . Now you will have cold air in your fender area to feed your intake also, it makes a big deference on your intake Temps! There is videos of this mod .

My 18 Shaker has the lower airbox like that already. I bought the tube that connects it to the headlight inlet from Steve White motors, and it bolted right up. Now mind you, everyone will now say, hey, you lost the trim ring to your headlight. LOL
I think it's worth it. Having the air coming through the front should really help intake temps. Almost like a small ram air setup. Really glad I did this! You shaker guys have a nice intake setup out of factory
Only car enthusiasts will notice the plug not being there. I took out both on my car within a month after owning it. After 5.5 years, no one notices until I tell them.
The other headlight also has a removable plug. And a kit is made to bring cold air into the engine bay to assist in engine cooling. This mod may not increase engine performance but helps in reducing under hood temps. But from the aesthetic point it opens the passenger port to match the drivers port. On AM muscle they sell a headlight upgrade kit to give this option for the 2008-2014 challengers too
After seeing the lower air box in the live or earlier I'm pretty sure that is the one I have on my car stock. Mine is the same lower air box that comes on the Shaker cars. I still can't believe it moves are like that. I thought the halos were more for force-fed air while moving. You amazed me with that 👍👍
It's a pretty solid option for those with base model trims. It's impressive how much air is being grabbed from the headlight inlet. Def going to help with temps while driving

On my 3.6L pentastar it improved my 0-60 on top of my rear resonator delete. 6.1 on a slight uphill and semi wet roads. Was gripping the steering wheel big time! Super happy with this mod and i’m sure with correct circumstances this mod got my car into the high 5s📈
The rubber mounting isolators from the OE box are supposed to be transferred to the hellcat lower. Have had the lower box/tube on mine for a few years now. Works quite well.
I did this exact man I use weather strips on the bottom of the airbags and on the air tube to make it sealed a lot better, and I took everything off my old airbox and put on my new airbox, including the rubber piece where the screw goes in the model is simple and very easy and it is noticeable with other upgrades
I installed the AFE intake on my Jeep SRT, but I chose the open filter model. It really it gave A much richer sound and better breathing for the 392. 😎😎😎
I can't remember what it's called, but when I installed my Hellcat box on my Scat Pack, I used double sided foam tape to seal the bottom of the airbox to opening, it was about 1/4 inch wide.
The hellcat lower box/front light air tube with a MAHLE LX 3482 air filter really is a great setup and performance wise is second to none. The Mahle filter out filters and out flows almost everything else and is the Hellcat OEM filter. Check out the specs. Lastly there are some cool screens for the front intake if you would like. Keep rocking the scatpack! Very fun cars.

I forget where I got my screens for the opening but I think several aftermarket folks make them. Highly suggest getting them to keep the big stuff from entering the air box.
For anyone with the newer challenger headlights. They don't just pop out. They have a cap and torque bit on both sides of it you have to unscrew.. I did that on my 1320, and did help Temps among sound..

Man, it's so much easier to access the front bumper area on the challengers than the chargers. Pretty much have to take the entire bumper off on the chargers because that plastic top cover is such a PIA. Yeah though, $500 for an intake is a bit much for a NA motor, so this is a nice option.
I couldn't believe how easy the install was! The prices are a little silly for intakes, so I figured this would be a nice little upgrade for now. Hellcats have really solid performance parts already in place - that headlight air grabber is really a great idea

That's nice - the shaker has a great intake setup out of factory. If you get that inlet it's a nice $40-50 upgrade to make sure your intake is grabbing cool air

The setup on the Charger is different. There's a vent in the grill for it, but only on the Scat Packs & Hellcats. I think you have to replace the whole front fascia on the other models to get it.
I feel you could use an open box to also allow air from the scoop in. I would find out what the thread spacing is for that bolt and find a longer one at Home Depot and add some spacers so that it gets a tight seal with the hood. While also using the rubber headlight duct so it can flex the way it needs to. (The plastic one won’t) Also I did a mod that only slightly helps only while moving. I took the driver side fog light out and put one of those specter tubes from auto zone up to the fog light opening and to the bottom of the air box
Pretty sure someone has already stated it our you've seen it but you can just modify the top of the airbox so that when the hood is closed you get air from both.
R/T! I need your headlight intake caps that you showed us! I want to block mine off and being a mopar part, theyre incredibly expensive IF you find them anywhere
@@RTLife because everyone has quad halos. I have cuda style dual halos, and the blacking out removes a lot of the amber light refraction, so these front side caps would help refract more amber light forward if i add foil tape. These are positioned at the forefront of the intake arent they?
Should of gone with JLT intake it would allow you to take advantage of both set ups the hood and head light for an extra $150 and it guarantees an extra 8 to 15 hp gains
I was looking at the JLT for around $300 - I have something similar sitting in my garage. I like the idea of a closed box for now & grabbing air from the headlight. As I add power my mind will likely change though
@R/T Life I tried an AEM filter for my 392 at first and didn't see any benefits from it (power,gas mileage or cooler temps), I saw more benefits from the hellcat oem paper filter which I ran for a while till I got my JLT
@@RTLife it's cuz they're discontinuing the cars. I couldn't find the coil spring isolators at any Mopar retailer recently, cuz they all said that they were discontinued parts. Had to resort to eBay.
@@DJGRoc They were expensive before that too. I remember looking at one back in 2020 and the setup was damn near 1k just for the scoop duct kit. (I already had the TA-style hood on mine) I think on the low-end it was around $700.
That is much easier than the Chargers…requires removing the front bumper cover. For the 2019 or 2020 Challengers, the cover is screwed in place and the small tube is a bit different in shape.
Hey, so i know this a little random but with all the experience of mods on your Charger i was hoping to get an opinion. i was quoted 11.3k on my 2020 challenger R/T for PCM/Longtube headers/stage 2 hrt cam/ and tune with all parts and labor. Is this reasonable or should i take that money and just trade up to a Scatpack ? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!!
PCM $500 + Long tubes $1500 + $3000 Cam/Parts + 500 dyno tune = $5500 (ballpark) Which would make Hard Install Labor = $5800 (ballpark) I love modding but only if you're getting solid deals. That's a lot of $$$ for how much power you'll be walking away with. If you can afford a 392 go for it or try finding the parts at discounts a upgrade the 5.7L one at a time for a good deal. I hope that helps

I honestly have no clue. It has an unlocked PCM with a tuner ready. Wheels & radials ready. Just need to figure out the road map I really want to take & make it happen.
@@RTLife I’m in the same predicament, I have a 2020 scat pack charger, so far all I’ve done is put a wide body kit ( only the rear of the car ) with 305’s in the back and 275’s in front. I hope you figure it out so we can have a blueprint lol . Our cars are difficult to make fast lol .

I had the same issue when I put the redeye hood on my scat pack. I already had the hellcat air box on and the bang for the buck wouldn’t be worth changing to utilize the hood funnel

Get rid of the oiled filter asap. Oiled filter will damage your mass air.

You do get more of a ram air effect when driving, but it still sucks in air regardless.

I just got a V6 Challenger. Dude before me put in a k&n cold air intake and a mbrp quad muffler. I popped those headlight caps out because more air ❤❤

That was the first mode i did for my 392 for some reason the cut out is there for the shaker hood but not the tube i had to buy it to

I didn't try it on my Charger but man this was super simple.

I second the JLT. I had one on my 5.7 and I absolutely loved it.
I have the same install in my 2016 challenger R/T and I feel like my car wakes up a Lil in the winter, cool mod 5-10 horse but very cool mod✌🏾

Yeah I’m on hp tuner tryn to get tunes dialed in have Diablo also but hate it . But I do like the gauges on the Diablo .

Did you notice if it dropped your average air temp?
While drive with this new setup I was around 5-10 degrees over outside temps. I think it does help but I forgot to monitor the before
That is much easier than the Chargers…requires removing the front bumper cover. For the 2019 or 2020 Challengers, the cover is screwed in place and the small tube is a bit different in shape.
I never really considered doing this for the Charger - just looked to easy for me not to do for the challenger.

The charger is struggling! The tuning for the built hp90 is underway

The built Hp90 is getting tuned at a performance shop. I got that along with upgraded fueling (triple pump, new lines, fuel rails etc.)
Funny how the 2016 shaker scat only needed the Mopar tube. Air box already had square opening
yah all the shaker guys seem to have the opening already in place - all you need is the connecting tube
My 2016 has this inlet, but it is an srt so maybe started in 15? Idk though
yah it started in 2015. They changed the headlight inlet in the 18+ so it's not as easy as this
Hey, so i know this a little random but with all the experience of mods on your Charger i was hoping to get an opinion.
i was quoted 11.3k on my 2020 challenger R/T for PCM/Longtube headers/stage 2 hrt cam/ and tune with all parts and labor.
Is this reasonable or should i take that money and just trade up to a Scatpack ? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!!
PCM $500 + Long tubes $1500 + $3000 Cam/Parts + 500 dyno tune = $5500 (ballpark)
Which would make Hard Install Labor = $5800 (ballpark)
I love modding but only if you're getting solid deals. That's a lot of $$$ for how much power you'll be walking away with. If you can afford a 392 go for it or try finding the parts at discounts a upgrade the 5.7L one at a time for a good deal. I hope that helps

I have a 2019 rt and the insert cap is the same. I went with a k&n intake that is open in the front so i dont need the tube

@@RTLife it works great. Ive had it for about 2 years now. When the temps are below 100 degrees outside, the intale temps are within 5-8 of ambient temps
When I did mine I noticed the top of the airbox has ribs. I'm not sure if there's a reason. Was thinking of grinding it out.

I honestly have no clue. It has an unlocked PCM with a tuner ready. Wheels & radials ready. Just need to figure out the road map I really want to take & make it happen.
@@RTLife I’m in the same predicament, I have a 2020 scat pack charger, so far all I’ve done is put a wide body kit ( only the rear of the car ) with 305’s in the back and 275’s in front. I hope you figure it out so we can have a blueprint lol . Our cars are difficult to make fast lol .

Wouldn't this allow water into housing when driving in rain?
There's an opening in the bottom of the lower box so any moisture will just fall out of the bottom near the wheel liner

I had the same issue when I put the redeye hood on my scat pack. I already had the hellcat air box on and the bang for the buck wouldn’t be worth changing to utilize the hood funnel
Same page as you. Just not worth the $$$ to grab some additional air from the hood. This works really good anyway
