Another good video. My son got a 2019 Scat Pack, which I cautiously drove and it had gobs of power, perhaps,ps too much for me at 74. A couple of months latter I got a 2019 R/T Plus and for me, it was a good choice. Price was not an issue, color and chrome wheels, filler cap and body color rear spoiler were important, I don’t like black on these parts. On the street, from a roll, the RT flies. I get 18 mpg in Stop and go, with emphasis on go and I love the car. RT is a good choice for average guys.

I agree with this video. I use to race my 70 Challenger R/T back in the day. It dyno'd at 410hp (in 1991) and that was a badge of honor back then. Now 400hp doesn't impress "racer guy" - but STILL, anything with over 300hp is a strong, daily street-driven car. In over 30 years of driving and racing muscle cars I can count on one hand how many times I've actually had a street light challenge. The R/T Challenger will satisfy 90% of those who buy it in bone stock trim. 9% will want to open up that exhaust (because they are quiet) and 1% can never be pleased.

With the active exhaust on the 5.7's now, it sounds every bit as mean as the 6.4 at both idle and WOT. Terrific DD. As far as Smoke Show...a little too tame looking for me personally. • @hasanmichael4966
    @hasanmichael4966 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

You get more than just extra HP with the Scat Pack. You also get better brakes and better suspension. There are probably some other differences I'm overlooking.
While I do agree the R/T is a great ride, I think the people who buy them do it for financial reasons. If they were buying it for gas mileage they would get the SXT (nothing weong with the SXT either). In reality, on the street, your getting the same gas mileage with a 5.7l or 6.4l. You only save noticeable money if you fill with 87.
Too me, that's the only real advantage the R/T has over a SP, it cost less.
As for mods, MOPAR is just expensive in general. You make it sound like you can pop a few mods on the R/T and you will have power like the SP, that is not the case.

I've owned both a Challenger R/T and a Scat Pack. The later had no traction with those skinny 245 tires and 470 pound feet if torque. Sold my Scat Pack after a few years. The R/T is the better choice as it launches better. Just for the record my Scat Pack wad getting 9.5 miles to the gallon in city driving as apposed to 13 with the 5.7 R/T. And only high test in the Scat Pack.

I love my 2015 Challenger R/T Plus. I have a K&N CAI and put Flowmaster 40 mids with a rear rez delete. I'm super happy with it. I'm 44 years old, so hot rodding and burnouts on not my thing, but my car definitely has enough power to scare the shit out of me. I originally wanted a plum crazy purple one with black R/T side stripes, but couldn't find one, so I bought a black one and put plum crazy stripes on it. I grew up poor as dirt on a tobacco farm here in northern Kentucky and always wanted a really nice car. My R/T does me just fine. It's looks great, runs AWESOME, and will smoke the tires off if I want it to. The 5.7 is an EXCELLENT ENGINE.

I love my 2013 RT, Miss Maxine. I live in a rural area and, since most of my driving is on the highway, I wanted something to get me from here to there with a quickness. She does not disappoint!!! I got her in 2016, with 14,000 miles on her. Now, with 93,000, she's still running like a scalded dog. Best daily ride I've ever had! Better mileage than my truck, and no engine trouble thus far.💖

The scat comes with a lot standard on it that are options you should consider on the R/T. For me 500 more was worth it for all of the extra I get with the scat.

I honestly thought you were crazy as well, but, you did make valid points. I owned my Charger R/T for just over a year, put 20K miles on her and loved every minute of her. I have had my Scat for a year this month, put only 11K miles on her and have loved every minute of her. That being said, I wouldn't trade the Scat for the R/T but I ordered mine from the factory in the trim she is in with the Stars and Stripes edition. A couple of things to consider in your assessments, base trim to base trim, what would it cost to take the base R/T and mod it to equal the Scat? Would it be more than the 5K in the sticker or for less than 5K could you get the HP gains along with the suspension upgrades that you have with the Scat or would it cost you more? But overall, I can't say a negative thing about the R/T other than it sucked being governed at 134 and so far the Scat has hit 164 and was still wanting to go :) Great content as always Sir!

Awesome vid. Appreciate the R/T love as an owner myself. Used, with low miles, RTs typically cost $10k or so less. New, most RTs Scats have options and are often inflated. Easier to find a base RT than a Scat bc RTs are more plentiful as RacerX pointed out. And as a daily driver, is a Scat really worth the extra $$$ and operational costs? You're not using the extra power and handling capabilities very often.

Great points! Personally, I'm not into enhancing the revenue (ticket's) of various jurisdictions, nor high insurance premiums. I bought my base model 2013 Challenger R/T w/6 speed in late 2012 for $28,500 out the door. It's my toy, not a daily driver. Liability insurance on my 2003 Trailblazer and full coverage on the Chally costs me about $750 annually. Avg fuel economy is 20-22, runs just fine on 87 oct gas but there are some more ponies on tap with 91-93 oct. Cruising at 55, 65, 70 mph gets 33, 28 & 27 mpg respectively. 5th & 6th gears are overdrive and at 70 in 6th, the engine is only turning 1650-1700 rpm's, which is one of the reasons the fuel economy is excellent. The R/T is fun to drive, doesn't break the bank, and is fully capable of keeping up in traffic or setting the pace, and can get you in as much trouble and more as you care to engage in. I don't do banzai charges or full throttle runs, burnouts or donuts, corner at the limits of adhesion, thrash the gearbox or otherwise abuse mine. I don't race and am beyond caring about such. I did that stuff in my youth and now am just enjoying the ride. The time honored definition of a muscle car is any car with at least 1 hp per 13# of body weight. The R/T comes in around 1:11.2 and even the SXT's are at the edge or just outside of 1:13. There's much more to enjoying a car than just putting the gas pedal on the floor. There's fast and faster and fast enough! The R/T is fast enough!

One thing that could play a factor in it, is that the Scat Pack is still labeled an R/T to insurance companies. That's why a lot of people really liked the Scat over the SRT, because even though there were similar cars with drive train, they were labeled as an SRT and one as an R/T. I bought my first r/t plus new in 2018. I just bought a used 2022 r/t plus with 14k miles. On the used market there are far more scats than r/ts , let alone r/t pluses. Typically on the used market most scats are very bare boned, hideous checkerboard cloth seats, alpine stereos, minimal option packages etc. My r/t plus came with super track pack, nappa alcantara heated cooled 4 way powered performance seats. 29n customer preferred package. Technology package , navigation/travel package, interior mopar carbon fiber appearance package, Harmon Kardon 19 speaker surround sound with amplifier and subwoofer. Even a spare tire, most scats come with a can of tire foam. Heated steering wheel and mirrors, and a bunch of other add ons. The extra 115 hp would be nice, but needs premium fuel and to 135mph (in Mexico) scats only put a car and a half on me. So few cars are faster than the r/t but slower than the scat it was really a no brainer decision for a daily driver.

The R/T is a better NA platform to start from if you stay NA. The 392 is so optimized from the factory that any gains from traditional bolt ons are minimal ( and expensive ). The only way to get a Scatty to make more power is with a cam swap since the cam timing is so mild, and we all know how involved doing the job is on a Hemi. Might as.well port the heads since they have to come off and do springs and rocker shaft reinforcement. 100 hp and still streetable. Should be about 5000.00 to do both or so.

I find that the R/T overall offers a much better value, but if you've got the extra money to spend, then by all means the 392 SCAT is the one you want! At the end of the day, they both have a V8 as a power plant and they both sound sooo goood! While the SXT has it's merit, IMO the R/T is the minimum trim you want for a true muscle car.

No matter what you get you will definitely love it. I drive a 19 RT and definitely is fun to drive on the streets coming from a Challenger GT. I've driven the scat and it definitely burns rubber from zero. Don't expect to will all the time racing in the streets with the RT. You will win some and lose some. But it can put up a fight like what Racer X said. If you're not into racing, the RT is definitely worth it. Great sound and still fast. Maybe not as fast as the scat pack but definitely worth it.

Great video, I'm going to pick up a Durango R/T. The last time I drove a Dodge was during the 80's in High School, it was a 67 Dart with a Slant Six, man that was so much fun though, lmao.

I love my Dodge Charger R/T. It’s just enough power for me right now. And it sounds great! I have a friend who owns a scat pack and my R/T sounds much better than hers. Maybe one day I’ll upgrade to a scat but for now I love my R/T. It’s perfect.

Funny you say that...I totally agree. I had a Scat Pack for three years and thought it sounded great. But traded it for an '18 R/T to lower my payments, and I thought it sounded more wicked the minute I drove it off the dealer lot. Wasn't expecting that, but love it. Perfect DD...smoother idle and requires less octane.

I have a 2016 ram with the 5.7. It has a ton of power and I love it! I recently purchased a 2020 scatpack widebody and now the ram feels under powered. With that I can NEVER drive a hellcat or ill be down that rabbit hole in an instant!

I really appreciate the RT love you showed in the video. I always get asked why didnt you get a scat pack it's much quicker and had more torque and I tell them I would love to get one but I know insurance would eat me alive. I love my RT and I plan to get a scat pack in the future but plz keep up the good videos.

I have had both of these vehicles and can tell you that if you do get the 5.7 if you can get it with a manual transmission you will get limited slip differential, no MDS In the car will feel like a whole lot more torque and more fun to drive. Put a cold air intake and exhaust you will be at 405 horsepower While getting 24 to 25 mpg on the highway. I actually think the 5.7 have a better sound as well. If you plan to race at all the scat pack will just be a tease you will always want the hellcat. If you can accept the car the way it is the scat pack is a great deal make sure you get the plus package.

Thank you for this video. Ik I'm late to the party watching it but I'm stuck between a R/T and Scatpack at the moment. I'm glad to know even if I can't find a scat pack it will still be ok and I can always mod r/t

Awesome video, I truly believe the 392 was made for the person who doesn't want to add power an enjoy the 400+. Loved my RT could have added power, but pockets would run thin if things go sideways building.

I recently found your channel and I'm glad I did. You give such a clear and unbiased review/detail tutorial based on the data along with your experience. You have a way of sharing your knowledge without talking down to your audience. I'm someone who loves cars but am limited on my knowledge of them and the inner workings. I have a 2012 Charger R/T Plus AWD. I purchased a Tazer to force RWD (at times).
I really enjoy learning from your videos and look forward to watching more. Thank you 🙏

Nice video, I was thinking the R/T Scat Pack Wide Body, but after listening to you you are right for my budget the R/T @ 375 HP is the better deal...For my budget the GT and the RT are right there, but I'm a V8 guy So I believe the R/T it will be maybe with the Shaker package.

You’re right with the RT being entry level and price. Have had a couple of RT chargers as my police vehicle. Just picked up my first scat pack and the two can’t compare. But RT is a lot of fun and has plenty of power and a great sound.

The R/T is fine for 90% of buyers looking to get a V8 challenger. Its possible to load a R/T with very nice options and pay much less than an equivalent scat pack. Oh and there is a Mopar engine upgrade for R/Ts that doesn't affect your warranty. Google "the forgotten scat pack performance packages". There are three kits that can get you at least 58 more horsepower. Its not cheap but it is legit.

I got a new 2014 Charger RT 100th Anniversary Edition; just turned 30k miles; looks brand new, because it's kept in my garage. Love it!
