I was about 10 years old when I first heard this song and knew it would be my wedding song one day. Many years later, it was our wedding song! I'm now a widow! This song is beyond beautiful!

Yes, without Bernie Taupin there would never have been an Elton John, or the many hit songs.
@@moparman1962the chemistry is undeniable as well as the great songs they produced. But Elton was a music machine. He could crank out music to lyrics in 15 minutes. He later wrote hit songs with Gary Osborne and Tim Rice for the Lion King.
Would he have been the superstar he ended up being without Bernie if he met another good lyricist? Would that lyricist have had the words that got the best music out of Elton? The songs would have been different, but would they have been good or great?
No way to know. My guess is that this was destiny and if it hadn’t happened, Elton would have never reached anything near the heights he did. He also would have been without Bernie’s friendship which he sites as the most important relationship in his life.
Just my humble analysis of a scenario I’m glad never materialized because oh what we would have missed!
Greatest song ever written
...now that you have experienced Elton John's "Your Song", you should experience a similar (and equally great) song by Bread entitled "If" ...these 2 songs came out within a few years of each other with the same emotional impact. These songs came out during my high school days and made a lasting impression on my life... Please keep up the great work...I always enjoy your reactions...!

Elton is my favorite artist! I first saw him in concert in 1974 in Atlanta, Georgia, I was only 12 I went with my big brother, my brother was killed in Vietnam a year later! I always thing of him when I hear this song because it was his favorite! God Bless!
I am so sorry for the loss of your brother. My late father served 2 tours, in VIET - NAM, he was a sniper, during my dads second tour, dad was seriously injured. Lost 2 fingers and his stomach was partially destroyed he was taken to Japan, then to Walter reed medical ctr. Dad retired with 27 years of service. May your courageous brother, forever rest in heavenly peace. My dad, passed away 6 years ago. God bless you and your family.

One of my favorite songs, Others include "Tiny Dancer" and I know others will suggest other songs as he has so many back to back hits. I would also add that he appeared in the movie of 'The Who's' rock opera Tommy and performs the song "Pinball Wizard"

Empress...Elton could definitely sing very well AND play the piano very well, he just had those gifts...but the man could NOT write good song lyrics on his own, his many hit songs and his whole career were thanks to his partner in music, Bernie Taupin, who wrote the songs for Elton to arrange and perform. Bernie gave some feedback about the arrangements Elton came up with and their partnership just worked.
Complete Rubbish.
Bernie Taupin has been writing lyrics for Elton for over 50 years. They were introduced when Bernie and Elton both answered ads as teenagers. Bernie wanted to write songs but needed someone To write music; Elton wrote music but had trouble with lyrics.
So Bernie would give Elton the lyrics and Elton would compose the music for it in about 20 minutes. Bernie is a GREAT lyricist but has zero musical talent let alone “arranged the music for Elton to perform.” Elton also worked with other lyricist including Tim Rice for “The Lion King.”
