Great reaction! This was one of Elton's first hit songs back in the early 70s. He has had decades of amazing music since then. He was one of my favorite performers through the 70s.
The studio version is even better. Literally perfection. This one takes a few liberties with the arrangement, the way singers usually do when singing live. Which is also quite nice.
This is the reason I love watching reaction videos. I was a fan of his when these songs were new and have enjoyed them for decades. Seeing the young people of today experience it for the first time makes me happy. Tiny dancer is a good recommendation. The official music video was done much later and was somehow tied to a youtube competition where the winner got to be the official video. Rocket man is another good one. One that you won't hear many request for, but is a great song is Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters. You won't be sorry you invested the few minutes to listen to that one.
He is such a great singer and songwriter. Some others you would enjoy are Philadelphia Freedom, Tiny Dancer and Crocodile Rock. Great reaction. Thank you ❤❤
All of Elton Johns' songs were written in collaboration with Bernie Taupin, who usually wrote the lyrics while Elton then wrote the music and performed the songs for the albums and concerts.
@@RichardAkin-qj6xt Elton has said several times:"Without Bernie Taupin, there would never be an Elton John". Because the songs always begin with Bernie's lyrics. They work separately, and very rarely (almost never) Elton suggests a subject for a song. Usually Elton just gets a packet of lyrics delivered to him, takes them out one at a time, sits at the piano, and in about twenty minutes or less, he comes up with the music. Genius.
I love how the song seems to be about young love, and the singer of the story is obviously shy, innocent, and naïve. It sounds like a young man writing a love note to his girl...with stuff like "If I were a sculptor...but then again, no...". And Elton sings it with such sincerity. He's a story teller.
Class Act Elton John teamed up with Bernie Tapin who between them wrote and produced many memorable hits.. keep going with Elton he will not disappont. A real entertainer and storyteller..a showman with panache
Elton John had a band in 60's playing local bars. Getting nowhere he quit the band after seeing an add from a music publishing company looking for songwriters. He went to apply and told the person at the counter he was pretty good at writing music but was rubbish at writing lyrics. The clerk pulled out an envelope and said, "see what you can do with these and come back". The envelope had several sheets of lyrics that was mailed in by Bernie Taupin without music. Elton went home and going through the lyrics this one really landed and he immediately wrote the music. Then he put music to five more. He contacted Bernie to see if he had any more lyrics. Bernie sent him enough to recorda whole album. Your Song was his first hit single and John/Taupin would go on to be the most successful song writing since duo The Beatles Lennon/McCartney duo. Starting with Your Song he had a top 40 hit song every year for the next 30 years.
The first hit. This was the first time we saw Elton in the States. Every 6 weeks, he'd have a new hit, better than the last one. Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man, Honky Cat, Crocodile Rock, Daniel....
The 'gift' in the song is the gift God gave him to make music, & the giving of the song to the person he loves. Bernie Taupin, Elton's writing partner, wrote this when he was a teenager. Elton put the music to it. This is the way they worked for years. This was Elton's first hit, way back in 1971, before he had any money. Elton has been performing ever since, producing hundreds of hit songs, & many top selling albums, & thousands of sold out gigs all around the world. Check out 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road', or 'Captain Fantastic & the Brown Dirt Cowboy', or look at the Lion King movie, for which Elton composed all the music.
This was, indeed, the first dance at my wedding, lol. My husband even recorded a cover and sent it to me on our 15th wedding anniversary. Definitely one of the best love songs ever written.
I'm 67 and grew up with all this great music. This was his first of many many hits. I recommend for the full experience, get a turn table and buy the 45's. Make sure you get really good speakers lol
This was Elton's first hit, and from this point forward, he simply skyrocketed. His music has touched decades of fans, and I'm pretty sure he's still performing. So many great songs for you to choose from on this journey. Consider "The Bitch is Back" for a really uptempo alternative by him.
🎉Ellie Goulding covered this. Bernie was about 19 when he wrote this and Elton was about 22. If you look at the lyrics, you’ll see that there is no reference to the sex of who it’s written for. It could have been a song Bernie wrote specifically about Elton and their relationship. Bernie wrote it while eating his breakfast at Elton’s mother’s house where they wrote a lot of their early songs from 1967-1970. Then again, it could have been inspired by a girl Bernie was dating at the time (he doesn’t remember) but he very rarely wrote anything that included an identity for either party.
Oh man, Sir Elton John. This isn't a rabbit hole, it's a whole damn warren. His hit list is bigger than most performers entire discography. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer, Crocodile Rock, Bennie And The Jets, Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word and Candle In The Wind will get you well started on your Sir Elton adventure
Elton is a musical genius while Bernie Taupin was a great lyricist. If you haven't already, check out "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Rocket Man", "Philadelphia Freedom", "Bennie and the Jets", "Don't Let the sun go down on Me", "Daniel", "Don't go breaking my heart", "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word" and "Tiny Dancer". There are so many to pick from. His music career is over the past 50 plus years!
I've heard this song a million times, and it is this moment that I realized what he meant by the "green or they're blue" line. The eye color, he can't remember.
This song is about 50 years old. Imagine being 20 in 1980 and having old people get surprised that you haven't heard a song from 1930. It's just ridiculous. Between the internet and the incredible amount of music and artists out there today it's not mind boggling at all that she hasn't heard this.
@@MatthewC137 Hey silly person, pay attention. I never said it's mind boggling she hasn't heard the song. I said it's mind boggling she hasn't heard of ELTON JOHN. a beautiful song. I think this song is about my lovely wife, with eyes of green, which I remember. I am so lucky with my lovely wife, I want to sing this song to her always.
I'm a hetero guy and Elton John is my favorite artist among all artists in the music industry. there's no other like him. "Daniel" is my all time favorite song, but I love most of his songs too.
all of Elton Johns lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin. Had nothing to do with the music Elton Wrote. Just dropped off the lyrics and left. there was no collaboration. Bernie never heard the song until Elton Finished the melody. Check out Elton at the Royal Academy of the arts in london concert. He had a scholarship in piano at age 11. this is a concert with the entire academy orchestra land chorus....Check out Burn DOwn the Mission first....about the 5th song. I saw him perform several times...gave great concerts . the entire Royal Academy Concert in 2002 is on You Tube....well worth a listen. he was a GREAT pianist..
Maybe my favorite artist. Top three at least! Try the song “Ticking” by Elton brilliant piano and lyrics! A bit sad and over 40 years old but could have been written last week!❤
It's crazy to think that this song wasn't written for anyone in particular. People have taken credit over the years or made assumptions but the lyricist debunked that theory hard.
A lovely early Elton song. Not the greatest rendition, but good enough to give you the main highlights and overall feel. So many Elton songs. I would suggest Crocodile Rock, Benny and the Jets, I'm Still Standing, I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues, and his duet with George Michael, of his Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, which they did around 1991, and Elton did solo in the 70s.
When in concert,, he never used prerecorded music. He believed in doing the music live and even called out the ones who did use prerecorded music. He would say they paid their money to hear live music. Santa
I have a challenge for you. I would like you to react to a concert rather than one song the concert is Elton John live in London Royal opera house 2002 I have a feeling this concert just might blow your way.
He does not write the lyrics - they are written by his writing partner Bernie Taupin - he just writes the music - a lot of songs are just written about situations in general but not particular people. He is not referring to anyone particular.
Since this is your first EJ song, I think you should do at least one more from this album, or jump to Come Down in Time from his next album Tumbleweed Connection.
Interesting how you made the assumption that Sir Elton wrote this for a woman. Remember, Elton John is gay and married to his partner for many years. Love is still love, We live in an era of less traditional roles than before. 😇🙏🌹☺️
