Hello and welcome to my latest video.
Today I cover how to update the CIC Sat-Nav maps in your BMW E89 Z4. Depending on your region it can take from 20 minutes to about an hour to upload the maps to your car, so I suggest you do it either on a drive out or have a power supply attached.

Works just like you said. Does take a bit. If you do this when you don' t have the engine running, make sure you are on a battery tender.

Just an idea for the future, wiring in a dashcam. I took a feed from the interior light above the mirror but could not find a switched live. I think there is one but ended up with the perm live. For a rear camera I went with Nextbase as it had a plug in camera to capture rear view, not as good as a full rear camera but does the job. The Garmin mini camera can take a feed of up to four cameras. Other project ideas might be additional lighting in the boot (the OEM is rubbish).

Hello Dave, many thanks for all your videos! I just bought an E89 z4 35i Automatic, without bmw iDrive :( My dream is to install the original BMW Screen with the original bmw controller. After watching your videos, I saw that you had the aftermarket screen, but then I saw the original screen in the last video. Could you tell me how did you get the original one? I have found an original screen online, but I think I need more than that to make it work. I know I need the controller, the new Radio Professional (not the one with the small orange screen - which I have now) and probably lot’s of cables + the carplay adapter. I don’t know how to proceed... many thanks!

I use to have the standard set-up, then added the Android screen and last summer I got all the parts together and did a full iDrive retrofit.
I'm currently working on the video of whats required and how to install it all, just got some more bits to do on it and it'll be complete and ill have ut up on my channel 👍

Thanks for sharing ... qq. when I went to the latest map folder link there are two options for West Europe there is a "next ~18gb" and a " Route ~13gb" , which one would I need for a 2015 Z4 E89 sdrive 2.8i?

Hi Chris, as you open the link you want the folder option. It's the last folder "Europe West Premium 2021-1" before the 7.z files.

Great video. I am planning to replace the cup holder at armrest mod to wireless charger for my phone. Any tips for dismantling the cup holder?
In the bottom there are rubber inserts. Remove the ones in the cup holders and the main compartment and you'll find four screws, remove these and the whole tray will come out. The new full size tray will screw back in place and you then just put in the new full size rubber mat. Job done 👍

Excellent video! Unfortunately, there is no letter "i" inside the circle on the bottom left corner of my X1 map screen. My problem happens when, after I insert the 20 character FSC code for the Europe West Premium 2022-1, the car refers that the activation code is incorrect. I tried several times, with different pen drives, and maps from different sources, but always the same error message. How can I get the "i" letter into my current, and still original, Europe Premium 2009-2 map? Tks
You need to have the headunits software updated.
BMW would do this or a decent independent, or even someone who has the correct programing software on a laptop can sort this out.

Didn't we once have a brief discussion on replacing the idrive with a Shenzhen aftermarket unit? I said it'd fail within 6 months. I'm curious, it's been a year now....... is it still working?
Yes we did.
The unit was perfectly fine and totally trouble free for the entire time I had it. It's now been sold on and is still going strong.
The only reason I removed it was that I'd always wanted the OEM iDrive system and that's what I've replaced it with along with the MMI box for CarPlay etc. I now have the best of all worlds 👍
All the issues I've come across with the Android screens for the e89 have been some minor glitches and basic knowledge on how to use them, once pointed in the right direction they have been happy with them.
I can only assume that the quality is much improved these days compared to the older ones on other models.
Oh, and it's been 2 years since I installed my Android screen!
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm following your instructions to the letter, but there doesn't appear to be any files being written back to the USB stick after waiting for 30 seconds+. Any ideas?
I would recommend trying a different type of memory stick. And certainly no bigger than 32gb.

These are very good instructions and I've ALMOST gone through all the steps. My thing is that I have gotten more recent map data. I have the 2023 zip but the tool only gives map options up to 2021. I suspect that this is likely because of the Lookup.xml file. Is there any suggestions for updating this file? Or is this happening for some other reason?
As long as you follow the instructions then it "should" all work OK. Saying that last time I did one it only came up with an option for 2022 and I was doing 2023 at the time, still worked though, so try it and see what happens, should be fine 👍

I had found a way to update the xml file in the forums before reading your comment and that worked. But since this is only generating the FSC then you are probably right too. I see no reason why using the old tag wouldn't work for that now that you mentioned it. I have successfully updated my maps from 2010 to 2023! 🎉🎉🎉! My car's maps were SO OLD that my Navigation was pretty much useless. Whole highway additions and streets were missing, including the one that I recently moved to. I will update my original comment to let other people know that it still works for 2023.👍🏾

do you know where i can find the connected drive bin update file for 2010 z4. Bmw site want show it for my vin.
If yours in an original iDrive installation from the factory then the BMW sire should have it. If not then it'll be one of two things either it's already up to date or it's a retrofit. If it's a retrofit then you need to find a donor VIN. Look in sale adverts as sometimes the VIN is either shown or stated, then, and as long as it has all the same options, you can use that.
On a side note I wasn't aware 2010 had Connected Drive, thought that came out in 2011

I dont know as mine has the Premium maps running, which is what this setup is designed for.
Simply following this video step by step - but I get nothing new after sticking the USB drive in the car for 30 seconds. Tried various USB drives. I desperately want to upgrade (still using original 2013 map ;-)). What can that be? Any ideas?

Not sure what to say apart from, have you followed the video step for step? Exactly the correct file placed on the stick, with nothing else on there? Using the glovebox USB? Does the glovebox USB actually work? Plug a stick with music on it and see if the headunit can see it.
thanks Dave. Pretty sure I followed the process to the letter. But - music on a USB I haven't tried. But should the USB in the dash read music? Also have usb in the armrest - though that was/is for music? Anyway, i'll keep trying and will check with music.
@@rogerappelo The USB in the glovebox is to place music onto the Hard Drive of the iDrive system, it's not for playing directly. So once inserted the system should recognise it and give you some options (can't remember exact what it'll come up with, but you'll know when it does)
@@BMWZ4Mods figured it out. Just used another (cheap Ali-Express) USB - and got the 1B.hex and subsequently update did work. Only remaining "problem" is that I get a blank screen on the map version info on the idrive system. Map seems to work, but just weird... thanks for the help!
@rogerappelo on the blank screen, was that initially? As I've had that before but on subsequent start ups it then shows correctly.
I can get the files to output to the memory stick using an old 3.75gb stick or a brand new 64gb stick. Any ideas?
Use a 32Gb memory stick that is blank. Make sure that you only load the folder "pkdgb" and the file "config.nfm" and that nothing else is on the stick.

i have followed your instructions up to the generator i select premium but wont let me chose a region? any ideas?
Did the install of the generator go properly? On the screen, while I'm using the generator, you can see in the background the 2 "Lookup" files, do you have these?

@@ianfinlayson3006 is your laptop on-line when doing this? Can't remember if it needed to be, as I did my at home anyway so I had internet connection.
When you get to the stage of loading the update into the car do you need to have the engine running all the time?
You don't need the engine running, but it takes 20 to 25+ minutes to load. It doesn't have to be continuous as long as you don't remove the memory stick at all until complete.

It doesn't unfortunately. Followed all the steps, the pen drive has the PKGDB folder (inside is two more - atlas and adas.ecew) the 1b.hex file, copie.scr.sh and a fsc file. Put it in the car, switched on and nothing? The Navigation screen is just the same as usual when it opens? What am I doing wrong????
@@melpotter7543 to get the info to obtain the FSC code all you need is the copie file on the memory stick. Then once you've used this to generate your FSC code delete it from the stick and place the map update on instead.

Якщо там галочка і i, то можна оновлюватися через USB. Якщо ні, то спочатку потрібно оновити мікропрограму головного пристрою.

I'm sorry but it has now been removed, as it wasn't my upload and I don't know of an alternative source I can no longer help with that.
You can find them with a bit of Google searching - BMW will try and remove them - I used the MHH Autoforum - check anything you download with a decent antivirus first

This keygen is not working, fake. Wasted time. Can't choice the Region.
I can assure you it's not fake. It's a well known piece of software, that is used by many people, I've used it dozens of times for customers myself.
You need to follow the instructions (supplied with the download file) exactly.
I dont make fake videos to waste yours and especially my time.
