  • Welcome back, sorry it's been a while since my last upload, alas life has got in the way!!
    Today I show how to replace your speakers in the E89. Here I'll show replacement for the Midrange and Tweeters for the doors, rear quarter and center speakers.
    Although you may be considering upgrading to an amplified system this will give you the how-to for actually replacing the speakers themselves. The midrange and tweeters are relatively straightforward to replace whether like-for-like or upgrading to a more powerful system.
    Here's the links for the speakers I bought for this video (this video is not sponsored so this is not an affiliate link nor have I received any discount for making this video, I'm just happy with the speakers supplied)....
    Midrange; (I bought the BO speakers)
    www.aliexpress...
    Tweeters; (these are the BO ones)

    I hope this is of use to you all.
    I'll be back again soon with another video, thanks for watching.

    I ordered the same speakers from Aliexpress. They upgraded me to BW. The install was pretty easy and exactly as expected. The sound is significantly better than my stock HiFi system in our Z4. Great cost effective upgrade.

    Great guide, especially regarding the weather strip. A prying tool would be ideal. But, I would add to have someone standing and holding the door panel, while attempting to remove the panel. The panel has quite a bit of weight. If solo mission, then a short stool would be ideal to let the door panel rest on once it comes loose. Amazing guide. Many thanks.

    I like the speaker diagram outlining the speaker packages for the E89. That was very helpful, along with the indicating the cutout location for the center speakers behind the driver. As always, nice video and very thorough!

    This is very helpful as I'm going to replace the trim around and including the door handles. As far as the sound system is concerned, I didn't think of that when I bought the car, I only discovered weeks later, much to my surprise, that it had option 677 aka the "HiFi System Professional".

    Just fitted the standard sub woofers and connected to the existing, they are starting to be sensible price 2nd hand from breakers.. I'm happy with them. Just awaiting a couple of BO for the doors. If they any good might get the rears done as well.

      Well happy with these BO speakers. Just ordered for the rear now also. Definitely much brighter than the originals, can hear what the singers are saying. Turned down the bass and treble. Old speaker sounded distant as though outside the car, like 6 feet away.

    Great video. I've done the door card speakers in mine, cost stopped me doing the rears, might look into the alliexpress versions. I would recommend getting hold of a handful of spare poppers/clips before starting.

    Very helpful video. My 2009 Z4 35i here in the US only has the 6 speakers and it’s sound is not all that good. I am going to replace the stock speakers in the footwell, door and rear corners, and add the tweeters in the doors. I’m going to look into installing a slim powered sub under the passenger seat or behind one of the seats. I’ll be visiting London in a few weeks so I’ll be on the lookout for fellow Z4 enthusiasts. 😀

    • @BMWZ4Mods
      @BMWZ4Mods  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've not yet found a replacement for the footwell woofers, apart from the factory ones, hence why I didn't do this in the video.
      Another option I'm still considering is a plug-n-play amplifier by Vibe. It just plugs straight into the back of the headunit so no additional wiring
      amzn.eu/d/aMU8CXw
      And they do an slimline underneath subwoofer as well
      amzn.eu/d/8tLumY5
      Hope that helps 👍

    For those of you who like me had (or will have) trouble taking off the two T20 screws in the lower driver door, you need a long T20 bit so that the angle of insertion isn’t affected by an otherwise thicker bit holder. The angle to get those 2 screws out is to rest the bit just above the lower closed door drawer, and angle up the bit to the One O’clock position. The remaining lower screw in the rear lower driver door is a T30, as well as the screw behind the door handle.
    Same advice on the passenger lower door handle T30 screw which is deeply recessed-use a longer T30 bit; a flashlight also helps to “seat” the bit into the screw.
    For removing the driver door panel (card), I was able to pull the bottom free with my hands instead of a pry tool. On the passenger side, this technique didn’t work nor did using a pry tool from the bottom; I did get a side free however, and then was able to yank the rest of the door panel free from that side.
    Also when releasing the OEM tweeter with a thin flat screwdriver, I had mistakenly started to pry the tweeter from its own housing; make sure you’re prying from the outermost black ring.

    Great video, I have been wanting to do this for a while.
    I presume these speakers have all the wiring needed to just plug and play?
    I have the basic set up, so these will be a nice modification.
    Is that link a pair of tweeters, or just one?
    The picture looks like a pair, but after ordering it says 1 in the quantity. Is that one pair, or one speaker?

    Hi! Great video.....Don't know if you can help me - I am trying to replace the rear panel mid range speakers but with great struggle...I take the speaker grill off, unscrew the speakers from panel, all very simple. The problem I am having is that I cannot unplug the blue connector from the original speakers, it is literally impossible to pull out. I have tried on both rear speakers but they are both completely stuck in place. Is there some sort of special technique to unplugging the blue connector? Thanks

    • @BMWZ4Mods
      @BMWZ4Mods  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, alas no special technique. I would (and have on a few of the BMW plugs in general) try to insert a small (and I mean SMALL!!) screwdriver on the side with the dimple/hole and gently prise it out. So only insert it slightly at a time, being careful not to break the plastic.
      Sorry but that's all I can offer on this, but this method has never failed me yet.
      Best of luck 👍

      I ran into this exact issue. Put a very small flathead screwdriver, the kind you would use to work on a phone, inside the spot where the plug goes and gently pry it out.

    Love your videos. Install procedures are beyond helpful. I installed the Android touchscreen unit a couple years ago and it is amazing. I have a couple questions. I have the BMW Professional head unit with 6 speakers. I don’t have a center channel in either front or rear and no tweeters at all. Question 1 - I assume I can just buy the tweeters and they will plug into the existing door speaker with the harness and y-plug that comes with the tweeter? Question 2 - if I don’t have the center speaker in the middle of the dash or behind the seat, I assume there is no cable and I can’t just install a speaker there? In other words if the head unit supports a center speaker, the cabling should exist?

      Thank you, glad you like the Android screen.
      Answers.....
      1) yes, the tweeters will just fit into the pods and plug directly into the spare socket on the back of the door speaker 👍
      2) yes, there won't be wires there if you only have the 6 speaker system.

    • @proteus2121

      @@BMWZ4Mods so just to be clear, with my setup there is no way to add a center speaker unless I change the head unit?

    • @BMWZ4Mods
      @BMWZ4Mods  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@proteus2121 not quite, the centre speakers only run from a separate amplifier, and then in that case all of the speakers are amplifier fed. The amp is mounted to the bulkhead in the boot/trunk.

    • @BMWZ4Mods

    Besides the new speakers coming from a seven series, did you notice any differences, like heavier weight of the magnets, etc. Did you notice a difference in the sound quality with the new speakers?

    • @BMWZ4Mods
      @BMWZ4Mods  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, definitely a heavier magnet, which in theory should mean a better speaker. Sound quality wise - well definitely very good, but any better? Well that's objective depending on how good the old ones are, and mine were in very good condition anyway.

      @@BMWZ4Mods David, I finally got the remaining 4 speakers into the doors. The 7 replacement BO speakers (I kept my 2 subs and 2 footwell speakers) in my amplified system sound nicely improved. More distinct sound overall, brighter tweeters and warmer mid range. Very happy with the upgrade from my OEM HK speakers. Thanks again for the video instructions!

    I have a e89 with the base audio, so woofers in the foot wells, midrange and tweeters in the door and midrange in the rear. Is there an amplifier and if yes, where is it located? If no, do the cables to the speakers come from the radio unit or somewhere else?

    • @BMWZ4Mods
      @BMWZ4Mods  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Do you have tweeters?? Or just tweeter housings??
      The standard setup is 2 x woofers in the footwells + 2 x midrange in the doors + 2 midrange in the rear quarter panels. No tweeters and no amplifier.
      Tweeters can be added to the housings and are plug-n-play piggybacking off the door midrange (as per the video). The wires go directly from the headunit quadlock connector to the speakers.
      There is an amplifier you could add into this to give you more amplification, and that's this....
      VIBE POWERBOX65.4BMW3 BMW Compatible Amplifier upgrade amzn.eu/d/0WyPreI
      It's plug-n-play.
