Purely perfect. Excellent explanation. I have dowloaded BMW Tools, but I do not get the profiles like you have it in the video. Do you perhaps have a link as to where you downloaded the NCS version that you are using?
@@eugenenel4008 in the pdf part 2 is a link for the profiles from my Dropbox account. The link is currently working and all profiles are included. These just need downloading and placing I the relevant file location, as explained the the link in the odf instructing how to install them 👍
@@BMWZ4Modshi, i dont have in my csr multi steering, just auto wipers (E91), i need to buy the whole steering collumn with the 3 switch? Or can i just buy the tempomat switch with the can-bus cable?
@noelszabo1291 you have to buy the full, three stalk, assembly. The internal PCB is specifically for the cruise control, you can't just add the cruise stalk on its own. If you've got the rear wiper, then make sure the wiper stalk has this.
Legendary video! I was stuck with the coding and the warning lights until I came.across your video, followed it step by step, and now everything work with no warning lights. thanks for taking the time to explain
I just want to say that you're a total genius, Dave - thanks so much for the video and your help in doing the coding for me. And now I have cruise control on my Z4. Amazing work! Thanks so much, Howard.
I’ve just installed this mod & followed this guide - I have to congratulate you on a great illustration of how fit the cruise control mod! Works perfectly - fitted & coded 👍 I’m still waiting for delivery of my media screen so I will be following that video next. Thank you!
Glad you have found it of use. More content coming soon, just waiting for some better weather to be out there doing the stuff I want to do for the channel.
Thanks very much! this was very helpful. Just a few notes, as I had installed cruise control in a 1 series that came with nothing, I had a few glitches. First to notice is that Tool 32 will require the E87 file, and the e89 won't work. Also, once everything was done and the dash clear of lights, cruise wouldn't work. Error code was that cruise control was not coded. I had some snooping around the web, and then i've change in KOMBI trace file ACC_AUSSTATTUNG to wert_03. Now dynamic cruise control works, however since my car doesn't have a compatible cluster, there are no pictograms. The alternative is to use $540 in VO and ACC_AUSSTATTUNG wert_01 for standard cruise control. Hope this helps anyone looking for this. Cheers, and thanks again.
Hi, thank you for this tutorial! I retrofitted the CC into a E90 330xd 10/2006 following this tutorial and the hardware job was exactly as shown, step by step. Originally I had the switching centre 9.121.746 and I replaced it with the 9.121.901 (curiously the supplier send me a spare part dated from the same month and year the car was manufactured!) After that I got the dashboard like a Christmas tree with the ABS, DCS and the 4X4 lights among other warnings, so the coding had to be done. The coding was almost exactly as shown here with a few differences due to the age of the vehicles and their ECUs (this Z4 is from 03/2011). The VO with the new attribute $544 had to be written and executed also in 3 ECUs: CAS, FRM (instead of NFRM) and BDSC (instead of ZDSC). Only after doing this the Christmas tree in the dashboard calmed down. But then I went for a test drive and the CC lever was not working at all, so I went back to the .MAN file and I coded the "TEMPOMAT_SETZ_ANZ_DAUER" with "wert_03" instead of "wert_02", went for another drive and BUM! The lever started to work!. Now the car keeps the speed, accelerates, I even got the feeling that it also brakes and it shows the speed in the display between the gauges of the dashboard. Lovely!! . Thank you @BMW Z4 Mods, you got a new subscriber :)
Hi, I'm just hoping on an answer. if I understand you correctly. the only difference from the video except for different names on the ecu i just need to enter $540 instead of $544 and wert03 instead of wert02? Thanks!!
Just completed my retrofit! Thank you so much for this video! Everything went exactly as described! My outside temp sensor is showing an oddly high figure, but it's totally worth it!
Another great video David! I already have cruise control from the factory, but your video gave me additional insights on taking off my steering wheel so I can sew on a new steering wheel cover (alcantara/perforated leather with red top/center stripe and red thread)
Hi Mil, the only difference between this retrofit and the factory version you have is the speedo cluster. The factory one has the red and green LED around the outside, whereas this doesn't provide that, but mine does now 😎👍 Yes I'm going to do my old steering wheel with a leather wrap, eventually 🤣
Thank you so much, you made a great guide. Installing the cruise control and programming it was very easy thanks to your video. If you decide to come visit Rome I will offer you a dinner with great pleasure! And… if you come with the Z we will do a nice tour 😉
@ytThRiX I'm glad you've found it useful, and that's it's all working OK for you. A trip to Italy would be nice, especially in the Z. We're back in France again next year in the Z, loved driving over there this year 👍
I do have Idrive so that’s what I’m going to work with For me the comfort access is more for the folding mirrors and the roof to close with the key rather than the starting without the key bit Sir you are a legend and again thank you
For the Mr12volt, there is a direct link in my video description to buy it from them 👍 For close on fob, then I'd recommend the SmartTop module, around £350, it's plug-n-play and no coding! As for folding mirrors, as long as you already have folding mirrors, then the SmartTop will give you this for fold on lock and unfold on unlock. Or you can actually code it in with NCSExpert 👍 I'm actually doing a video on retrofitting Powerfold mirrors and the instant fold option (instead of waiting 2 seconds pressing the folb) If you want to discuss options further then you can email me directly on anubis4120 @ googlemail dot com (reconfigured to avoid spam bots!)
I have a e82 and I don’t find the DCS E 82 prg like you have e89 I have exactly the same like u have in the video should I try e 87 prg or e 89 for a e82 ??? Thanks for ur answer if you still available
You are indeed correct, there is no dsc_82.prg, so what did you use in NCSExpert, I'm assuming the E89 option? So I'd definitely try the dsc_89.prg in Tool32. Alas I've not come across this before, mainly as I normally only work on E89's and E90's. Let me know how you get on.
Hello, Very good tutorial thank you again, follow the text file to the letter for the installation of software on the PC and do not forget to put win7 compatibility, run as admin and be careful that the files are well read And writing (this will save you mistakes ...) thank you again
I have I am going to do the coding again tonight and see if anything changes but yes followed step by step all the way through I will also pull the tempomat to see if it stored at 2 and did not revert back to 1
Hi Thanks for the quick answer. I will try and look for the software part I am missing to make the coding. The guide you have made is very good with all details I need to make it easy and right installation 😀
Hi Dave, thank you in the first instance for putting all the bits on for goodies fitting the Z4 e89, I follow with great enthusiasm. After Fitting the Cruise I have the usual dash warning including DSC. I am hoping the coding will cure? I will get an East York’s BM specialist to do as I don’t have any software, unless any other recommendations. Keep up the good work. Drew
Yes coding will sort this. If you open the Part 2 pdf in the video description then it gives you the links to all software, as well as a written version of the instructions.
Thanks for that. I may test my PC skills with the software, as like may do, I like to do the complete job. I’ll update when I have completed with success, hopefully soon!
Cruise update, all went well with the coding by the local BM specialist. The stalk works as it should. The only issue that we could not solve, was the warning triangle displayed when switching the engine on. A simple press of the cruise set button removes the warning light until you turn off ignition and turn on again. Not a massive issue as the cruise appears to work fully with no further error messages or annoying lights. I am informed the car requires a software update (at a further cost) to remove the warning. I’ll see possible when the MOT is due. All the best.
@DrewBee-fj9yc I'm glad it went well. As for the warning triangle , I've no idea as I've never had that before in all the 400+ cruise retrofits I've done.
@@BMWZ4Mods I couldn’t of done it with out the great video. I’ll see how we get on before I do anything else with it as It’s all great otherwise. Thanks again.
thank you for your detailed instructions. perfect timing to follow you on my own car. i bought a used cruise control lever, that seems to have only on level for +/-. is this an incorrect one? it fits and looks the same…
It'll do the same job, just without the +/- 5mph stage on it. You can just press and hold the CC stalk to increase speed constantly or pull and hold to decrease speed/brake, although you can still do this with the accelerator/brake respectively.
Thanks for the video Dave! However, I ordered and got delivered a stalk thru e-Bay but..... the plastic piece on the left (of which said to make sure it is included) is missing. Since it was shown on the pictures of the ad, I claimed this with the seller. So hiopefully I will get it. Anyway, do you know the partnumber of this plastic piece? Thanks, Eric
Alas, to the best of my knowledge, they are not a separate part, so no part number. I hope your supplier can help you. They do come up from time-to-time on ebay
@fmcowan if you are in the UK then contact me on anubis4120@googlemail.com and I'll see what I can do for you 👍 Otherwise it's just a search on eBay for your respective country.
@TerryKitchener firstly, sorry for the late reply, alas no Internet all weekend. The only way, on an E89, not to have the 3 second speed display would be that the coding was done incorrectly in the first part (Kombi). As the CC is working then the coding of $544 to CAS, NFRM and ZDSC has been done OK, so it can only be that the value of TEMPOMAT was not changed from 1 to 2, saved and then SG_CODERIEN'd back to the KOMBI, or at least something definitely went wrong in that part of the process. I suggest revisiting that part of the coding process, you wouldn't have to re-do the $544 coding part again though 👍
@@BMWZ4Mods Thanks for the reply. I am wondering, i thought that the battery light flashed up on the dash. I will redo the coding tomorrow (Monday). At least i know most of it went ok. Cheers again
All coded ok, trip from Kent to Wales made a lot more pleasant with it fitted. would an E89 non CIC electric folding mirrors retrofit be on your radar? Thanks again
@TerryKitchener glad you managed to sort it 👍 Yes, as it happens, I have videoed/photoed a Powerfold retrofit and it will be an upcoming video. It was, along with others, actually filmed two years ago, I've still not got around to sorting them all yet.
Hey so I think I found the issue I went back through the complete program part again and the trace file was still on 1 not 2 as I had previously set it to I re did each step and it’s all working also before I started I did a fault scan and found 3 faults in the cluster I reset them and this time it worked no problems so maybe it was me or the reset that allowed it to write properly Thank you as I said before fantastic video and guidance throughout also the support was very much appreciated Onto the next 3 jobs PDC retrofit Comfort access and Apple CarPlay if you have any advice please let me know and again thank you
Excellent, I'm glad you’ve found the issue 👍 PDC, relatively straightforward 👍 Comfort Access, not done it myself, I know it has been done. I've considered doing it but decided it wasn't worth the outlay for the end result. Lots of parts, lots of wiring and quite expensive, all for not pressing your fob button to get in and not putting the fob in the slot, I've also got a SmartTop, so it would be useless as I prefer to open my roof as I'm approaching the car. Each to their own, though 👍 CarPlay, I have done a few different types. Check out my other videos. My favourite and highly recommended is the Mr12volt version if you have iDrive 👍
Thank you @BMW Z4 Mods, for this step by step guide, very useful I have a question, in many other guides i have seen, this is the first one i see, that it is necessary to change the value of "TEMPOMAT_SETZ_ANZ_DAUER". I plan to add VO $540, on an e90 320d, this car has a 4 cylinder engine. I know there are differences in CC for 6 cylinder and 4 cylinder engines. I ask, do I have to change the value of "TEMPOMAT_SETZ_ANZ_DAUER in this case? or is it exclusive for VO $544, 6 cylinder cars? Thanks in advance.
Hi, I'm glad you liked the video 👍 I've also read about the 4 cylinder vs 6 cylinder issues with interest. Firstly I can not say for absolute certainty that this is not true, but from my own findings, I've fitted CC to all engine models of the E89 using the same stalks and the same process and its worked on every occasion (in excess of 400 now!). So I would say Yes do everything the same. Hope that helps, Dave
Hi! thanks for the answer, it's always helpful.... I tried to do the same procedure and it went well, it worked. I ended up not being able to answer my initial question about "TEMPOMAT_SETZ_ANZ_DAUER", but what matters is that it works! Just in case anyone reads this... during the process, I did a road test, before programming, and the CC already worked, just with stalk unit installed, but the dash was full of errors! Even so I followed the every steps of codding in this video, in the end, everything it turned out well, 0 errors on dash and the CC operational. thanks.
Great video, which explains how to do this really well on a Z4. I'd like to fit cruise control to an E90, would the coding guide be basically the same for that (though obviously selecting the correct model)?
In short yes. You'd use E89 in NCSExpert, can't remember if there is an E90 option in Tool32 though, if there is then use that, if not then use the E89 as shown in the video. Hope that helps
What an interresting and detailed explanation, still a bit ‘scared’ of the whole coding bit. I got an E90, i already fitted the CC stalk, but unfortunattely it needs to be coded. Is all coding the same for an E90? Instead of clicking on E89 i can just click the E90 name? If thats the case, i will be getting the same programs you used and gonna try it myself. Have a fun fact, my girlfriend drives an E87 116i, where i also installed the CC stalk, and without any coding the CC worked, we only have the DCS error.
If the software you use has the E90 option then use it (I doubt it will though), if not the just use the E89 as that'll sort it still 👍 As for the E87 😳🤔 no idea, it "should" have still needed coding!
hello there, I have a question, how do you know the codes of all of those ECUs that you are reprogramming to communicate with the new hardware? did you figure it yourself or you found it somewhere? I have worked on my roof to replace broken wires and my lath on the front shell does not work because I think I have a positioning fault of some sort and I am trying to reset it to state of the roof closed so that then I can match this with the actual state of the roof (close) and hopefully everything will go back to normal (all of the sensors are working fine).
Very good installation guide 😊. The coding software where can I download the right software I some of the coding software but not all you are using in installation
Alas the link in my pdf is no longer available, and I don’t have a direct link. Google is you friend as a lot of direct links are being taken down unfortunately.
Back here for another query I’m hoping you could help with. I now have a E82 135i 2012 N55 Automatic DCT and basically did the exact same steps as you and tried a few different things but having no luck. When pressed it shows the CC exclamation mark icon. So I’m wondering if you know what I could do to debug the issue and/or whether it’s different for automatic DCT or because it’s a 6-cylinder? Many thanks in advance!
Hmmm, interesting 🤔 Well at the end of the day you are cruise at the speed that us steady on the speedo, and if you're slowing down then you're not in cruise! 😉 Sorry, I'm not sure if the e60 has the same function as the E8x/9x cars do.
Hi grate instructions but I have hit a problem the cruise control works but dose not display anything in the instrument cluster have you had this before
Great video! I fitted the cruise control yesterday and it all went on fine but was planning to get it programmed the next day, but they said they didn’t have the right software so have not programmed it. I now can’t get anyone to program it until next week but my indicators reversing sensors and window motors are not working at all, I have even tried switching back to the old slip ring and they still don’t work. Is this normal and will be fine after programming? Or has something gone wrong?
The issues with indicators, windows etc may be a problem with you FRM module. Did it do this immediately after you did tge retrofit it after you took it to the garage? You'll need to find someone who can sort that first before you try to code the cruise, they are fixable though.
I'll be super impressed if this goes answered: My conversion has failed. I have an e88 with active steering. It had normal cruise control $540 Nothing failed software wise, except it just doesn't work. I have an error in the cluster. I do not care if it displays speed, but it would be nice. Thank you
OK a couple of questions... 1) Was "$544 Cruise Control with Brakeing function" available as an option from the factory for the E88? 2) You say you have an error in the cluster, what error, and how do you know? Dave
Maybe my question might be slightly unrelated but I have an e82 but as you can see there is no option for e82 on ncsexpert. In this case can I still go with e89 like you did in this video and follow along? Many thanks
Hi there. So I've done a little digging for you and it turns out that, yes you can use the E89 option. Also when it comes to the last step, Tool32, then you'll need to use the DSC_87.prg instead of the DSC_89.prg I used in the video. Hope that helps, Dave
@@BMWZ4Mods wow thank you so much for your taking your time to dig through this to provide me with an answer. I'll be giving this a shot using your instructions. Many thanks
I have a query...fitted the stalk assembly, etc. going to be coding in at weekend....problem is...steering wheel buttons have all stopped working since I've done this. Would this be because I haven't coded the new stalk in....or ...when I put the put the cruise control stalk assembly in, should I have taken the black facia (clock) off my old fitting, and fitted it onto the cruise control assembly? I just used the whole cruise control assembly as is
As mentioned on the forum (this is really for others reading this) always a good idea to swap the current slip ring over, as you know it is a good working one 👍
Hi, i have followed you video and everything has worked fine except when resetting the fault codes (had to use dsc87 instead) Now the problem i cant work out, when i try to use the cruise control i get a fault code of the "cruise cluster" with a explamation mark. What could the problem be? I have a e90 05 28:14
Firstly, what happened when you tried dsc_89? As for the fault issue, this could be the age of the car. Being a 2005, to the best of my knowledge, this age of BMW requires an LCM. There are write-ups on this on the various forums.
Many thanks for a detailed, informative and thorough video. Are you sure that a E90 3 Series stalk unit will fit/work. I found one (of many) on eBay and double checked with the dealer that it would fit my E89 2014 and he stated, categorically, that it wouldn't! Could you possibly supply the part number of the one you fitted to your car, as you did for the bottom cowl.
In short the seller doesn't know what he's talking about!! E90, 92, 93 will all fit and work. If you check the corresponding part numbers they are not always listed as a compatible e89 part, but I've had no problems with any of them. The best part number to go for (if you have Auto wipers) is 9121901, as this gives you the +-5mph as well as the +-1mph increments. Hope that helps
Can you provide any info regarding my E87. I can see from the comments someone else has had the same issue. My E87 has sucesfully coded in the Cruise Control but doesnt show the speed or set speed etc in the instrumnt cluster. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks
I have just bought an e89 without cc. I also have an e85 which I retrofitted the switch - wiring loom was already there so it was an easy mod even for an amateur like me. My question is, is the wiring loom already in the e89 too? Thanks
In short, yes. Long answer is that it's controlled via the canbus system so no actual specific extra wiring was put in by BMW at the factory. All you are doing with this retrofit is installing a new module (inside the new stalk assembly) and it is then talking to the rest of the car systems. Hope that makes sense.
Brilliant video again! Came across it a few weeks ago, ordered the part and had it installed by a pro mechanic yesterday. Upon turning the engine on, however, the airbag and traction control warning lights are now on on the dashboard... Does it mean the unit installed is faulty or will this issue be solved by coding? Do you think swapping to the original unit's slip ring might solve it? Much grateful for any advice...
That's a good question, it's the way I'd found out how to do it so it's the way I use. You've still got to change programs anyway so I just find this quicker.
@@nikosstentoumis3961 alas I only learn what I need to (getting too old to learn more than I need!! lol), but there is a channel that tries to explain this sort of stuff and that's BMW Doctor. This is a link to Dean's channel and a list of videos on Tool32... th-cam.com/users/BMWDoctorsearch?query=tool32 Hope that helps
Looking to do this retrofit - however after looking at the PDF's where it says about the slip ring and part numbers being different, I'm not sure what I am checking for! My Z4 has auto wipers, will my slip ring work on any cruise control enabled stalk? Or do I need to find a stalk assembly that comes with a slip ring?
@PitVital in short, I always recommend reusing your existing slip ring, just unclip it, as shown in the video, and attach it to the new stalk assembly. Part numbers I use for Auto Wipers are... 6989580 9121901 9169072 9110887 These ones all have the 5mph increment on the cruise stalk.
@@BMWZ4Modsawesome thanks, sorry another question for you, which cable do you use for the coding side? I’ve been having a look around and there seems to be a huge choice
@PitVital I used to use a made for BMW generic USB to OBD cable I got from eBay years ago, but when that failed after quite a few years use I went for an ICOM, I don't recommend buying an ICOM, though, as they are quite expensive!! Go for one of the generic versions, with the switch on and at a reasonable price, i.e., don't go too cheap.
This is something I would like to do after I’ve fitted the screen I just ordered. I have the paddle shift gears on my steering wheel - (Z4 E89 23i)would this be just the same install & coding? Nothing extra I would need to do? Thanks.
This is fantastic. Thank you very much! Before I went ahead and ordered the cruise module I decided to first buy a cable and check whether I could function NCS and the coding successfully. I'm glad to say that all went to plan. One question then - will I need to do this coding all again once I fit the module thanks?
If you've done all the coding all you'll need to do is SG_Coderian to the ZDSC and the last part with Tool32 to reset the steering angle sensor. CAS and NFRM will already be sorted in this case. This is assuming youce done every step already. Best of luck 👍
@@BMWZ4Mods brilliant thanks. Another question; I've seen some people simply add the cruise stalk into the existing spare slot, as opposed to replacing the whole unit. Any benefit n either approach thanks?
@@mickmarshall3517 I don't see how they can do that, the ribbon cable slot is not onbthe pcb so there is no way to connect a single stalk. And I'd guess that the internal components aren't there either. You can pick up a stalk set for around £30 anyway with less hassle in fitting it.
@@BMWZ4Mods parts arrived today. All fitted and working great. Thanks again! Just one point though, the cruise icon and set speed only stay displayed on the dash for about 3 seconds whenever I touch the stick. Should it, or is there a way to make it, stay on display whilst cruise is active thanks?
@@mickmarshall3517 that is correct. Normally with factory fitted cruise you'd have a different clock set that has LED's around the edge of the speedo to give you the indication, but alas that is a much more complicated thing to do.
First time I've commented on a TH-cam video in a long time but had to say thank you so much... Fitted cruise to my e82 following your faultless guide ... Could you recommend a channel or resource to help be understand more fully using NCS expert
Glad it work all OK for your E82 👍 As for a resource, I'd highly recommend the following.... www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=368 although E9x based there is loads of info that's still relevant. Loads of info here... www.bmwcoding.com/forum.php And then there's the Facebook group... facebook.com/groups/864725706983758/?ref=share Hope that helps 👍
First of all Thank you for very detailed video! I have retrofitted cruise control to my E91 but for some reason it’s not working. Had couple differences in programing: There was no NFRM module so chose FRM also instead of ZDSC had to choose BDSC cause there was no other option. Despite those differences programing went fine... Also i’m not sure about my dashboard because it seems like older version than yours. (has a smaller BC screen) Gonna try to figure out what is missing, also any help is welcome.
Yes, as you say, the FRM is yours and I'll assume that it's the BDSC on yours, although I've not heard of the B part before but have seen DSC. AS long as CAS and FRM are both written to with the new VO including the $544, and then SD_CODEIREN to BDSC then everything "Should" work as far as it actually working goes. The last stage of Tool32 is to re-set the steering angle sensor and remove the two fault lights on the dash. And talking of the dash (KOMBI) then as long as you have change the value of TEMPOMAT from 01 to 02 then it "should" show up on the screen. BUT I do know that some E87's don't have this display, so maybe some earlier E9x's don't either. The other problem here could be that the stalk set is faulty, I've had this a few times in the past. So I'd suggest going through the whole coding side once again and make sure you cover every step, no matter what you've previously done, just to make certain it is fully covered. Hope that helps.
@@BMWZ4Mods So finally i have solved the riddle 😁 Since this E91 is from 2006 at that time they used separate module to control dcc. So had to wire in new module and upgrade instrument cluster with another unit since current one was not up to task - threw a fault code, witch helped to confirm suspicion. After programming and updating modules it worked like charm 🤩 Thank you again for sharing your experience 🙏
I allready installed the steering column control unit, when I tried to activate I get an error says that I have to change the KOMBI unit instrument cluster. my car is a 10/2006 335i e92. do you have experience with this problem?
Hello I dont know if anyone has had a problem I have experienced as I carried out the retro fit as per the tutorial video but I now have warning lights from the tyre pressure management, the symbol for stability control with the skid lines, after trying to reconnect the wiring connectors into the back of the leavers I now have the airbag light on Any suggestions what has happened and are there any workarounds thanks
From that description, I'd say you haven't completed the last stage of the tutorial (i.e., the Tool32 section!), or you've got a faulty set of stalks. As for the air bag light being on, then you've either left the battery connected, or you've used the slip ring that came with the stalks and it's faulty.
Good morning and thanks for the swift response. i have not moved to the tool32 as I thought there was a fault of some type as in your video it shows no fault lights on during the testing the stalk phase. re the airbag light it is probably my fault as i did disconnect and re connect the multi pin plugs in the rear of the slip rings checking they were fully secured. re Tool32 it is an expensive download plus the usb adaptor so that process I was going to pay local specialist @@BMWZ4Mods
@@martspar9075 OK, well all my coding in the video was done with NCSExpert, which is part of the BMW Tools package, which also includes INPA and Tool32 (amongst other apps). When I did the pdf write-up (linked above in the description) it included a link to download the full BMW Tools package in one go, alas this has now been taken down (legal reasons, not my site, all my Dropbox links are still active, but I can't host BMW Tools). Firstly you should be able to find the full package available via most of the BMW forums/sites out there, but I'd say that you certainly DO NOT need to pay for it. Thanks for the video, only one problem i stii have and i want to know if you can help me , i retrofited cc it works but it does not show at what speed is set in the cluster (e90 lci 318d)
Depending on the year, that'll be the case. I believe on pre 2008 (it may be earlier) on the E9x series it's a different cluster, so you don't get this option.
@mihai._.claudiu6131 in that case did you follow the coding to the letter? Did you follow every step? A 2011 should code fine as its the later cluster.
all installed and working properly, (thanks to you!) the niggly bit that is bothering me is that according to the manual there should be a green light above the speedo indicating the cruise speed. it isn't displayed on my speedo. did i do something wrong or miss a step?
Well done 👍 The green light mentioned in the manual is for factory installed cruise. To achieve this you'd need to change the clock set, and that's a whole new ball game.
Having a go at this at the weekend but before I do. Where can I download the software or even better, would you be able to do the coding for me? Cheers
Just found this video installing cruise on my e90. @@BMWZ4Mods I found the reason to be that when changing .trc file, it stayed as .trc. Copied and renamed to .man and then completed the rest of your instructions, but now tool32 shows an error on final step
Hi there, Thanks for the video. I tried the same process on my e91 2006 and was not able to make it work. It seems that my car is equipped with at LDM module but cannot program it. Any idea or workaround about this issue ? Thanks anyway
Well, i was finaly able to retrofit the LDM. It did work plug and play as the coding was already done (months ago) on dsc and kombi following your instructions. Many thanks !
Depending on what they actually done, if they did a car reset they "could" have coded it out, it shouldn't have but it's possible. Will just need the cruise recoding.
Open the video description and the link is half way down. Two Dropbox links that take you to the pdf. Then in oart 2 pdf you'll find all the links you need for tge software
Hi there, excellent guide. The link for ncsexpert and tool32 doesn't work I'm afraid. Do I need to download all the spdaten files or just the e89 file ? Any help will be appreciated by this techno dinosaur 🦖
Unfortunately, since I made all of these copyright issues have arisen, and the owners of the site I linked to have removed it. Alas, you're going to have to do a Google search to find a copy, but there are still some out there. They should be free, but I know some will charge for it. As for the spdatens, yes, you can get away with just the E89 one if you're going to only work on the E89 or E90 series platform.
Great and thanks for the reply. I thought there was some issue with copyright. I think i've managed to source a copy of NCs through a z4 facebook group. Just need to find tools 32 then i'll have a go, fingers crossed! @@BMWZ4Mods

Hi there, could you please let me know where you are based in uk,as would like my cruise control programming in,all parts are fitted, just the programming side goes straight over my head, thank you..mark
@@BMWZ4Mods thank you so much for fixing my mate howard's car,so impressed as couldn't find anyone who could do this, and to think you were on our doorstep all the time....once again thank you,off to do the lottery
It's entirely down to you, but I always recommend swapping them over and using your original simply because you know there isn't a problem with it (unless it is actually faulty). This way saves you time just incase the newly acquired one has a fault.
@norby93 The coding process was originally taken from a how-to for the E9x, so was tried for the E89 and worked perfectly. There is a possibility that the Kombi isn't designed for it on that model. I can't say for certain as I don't specialise in the E9x platform.
@@BMWZ4Mods Thx. Now, I have a manual windshield wiper, but the New is the automatic than your. Do i need to encode? Or not? And it is ok, and i will can use it. Thx
@@tiborbudai7460 you can use the Auto wiper stalk on a Manual wiper Z, it will work just the same (you wont have Auto wipers!!). All coding is the same 👍
Hi Dave, at the moment my E89 does not have cruise control. Can I install the cruise control stalk and will all functions work (except for cruise control off course)? Allowing me to use my car and drive it to a specialist who can take care of the coding as I do not have the hard- and software to do this myself.
Installing it without coding will bring up certain fault lights, for instance, DSC, ABS and potentially EPS. You "can" still drive it (I've had someone do this before where I coded it for him), but I highly DO NOT recommend it. In the description above is the full run-through in a two part pdf format detailing the whole process, including links to the software and updates as well as links to show how to update the software. It is a complete How-To, so all you would need is a Windows laptop and the cable. Trying to find someone who is able and willing to perform the coding may be very difficult, hence why I did all of this in the first place.
@@BMWZ4Mods Thanks again Dave. I did already find a shop that offers retrofit coding for BMW so I guess that won't be a problem. But anyway, if it's not too difficult to install the software and get the cable I may go for it and try it myself (even though I'm a bit anxious that I might mess things up.....)
@@BMWZ4Mods Sorry to bother you again Dave! I'm having some difficulties trying to get the software. The Bimmergeeks standard tools 7z archive gives an "unsupported compression method" message.... The "St212.exe" file compatibility issues.... I'm using a Windows 7 - 32 bit laptop
@@fmcowan I was about to put " I have absolutely no idea" but then this suddenly came to mind.... Are you running the latest version of 7Zip? I ask because I've had issues with 7Zip before where the solution was to use the latest.
There is no need to pay for the software, check out the Dropbox links in the video description and the software is linked from there as well as the various files to keep it up to date as well and how to do all that.
Heyi have an error come up with traction control and tyre pressure sensor. I cleared faults with tool 32 but it pops up on driving and pulls right . what have i messed up here?
Without having done it myself I can't say for sure, but I'd go through the whole process again from the start. That way you know you've coded it correctly. If it's still the same then it could be a faulty set of stalks.
@@BMWZ4Mods Thanks for helping, I Put the old one back in and it's all good again. Returned and got a replacement but having same issue? surely it can't be two faulty ones can it? I must be doing something wrong . Can I check at 21.26 it is process ECU?
I couldn't say either way. They are different stalk assemblies, but it may work the same, but I'd think (as I haven't checked) that you'd need to use the E61 coding option as opposed to the E89 specifics.
@derekdykstra5725 eBay normally, I've got a few of them (just not on my eBay account at the moment, though). There are various part numbers, I've got the two mist common ones.
I managed to complete this install with an E82 and was working perfectly, weirdly I went for a long drive and suddenly the car threw the same error before coding it as if it uncoded itself... have you experienced this and/or have a solution to this?
This could be one of two things, either you have a problem with the slip ring (ie; faulty replacement etc) or maybe the steering wheel wasn't 100% straight when you did the last stage. So to save you taking things apart I'd re-do the last stage again (Tool32), making absolute sure the wheels are dead straight, not just the steering wheel. Hope that helps.
It is possible to drive without coding, but I don't recommend it at all. Your dash will be like a Christmas tree, you'll loose DTC, power steering will be off or heavy and everything just won't feel right. It's all down to the Steering Angle Sensor being disturbed and requiring resetting.
As long as you have followed the How-To fully then it "should" just work. As far as I'm aware there is no "DSC_90.prg" so it is the "DSC_89.prg" that you use. The only other thing I can think of is if yours is too old and it works differently. Alas I don't deal with anything other than the E89 so I'm not up on the E90 earlier versions.
OK, not the answer I was expecting, as that shouldn't be an issue. If all stages of the coding were followed, and especially the coding to the KOMBI (cluster) then it should work. So, having read the file, you've changed the setting of "TEMPOMAT_SETZ_ANZ_DAUER" from 01 to 02, and saved the file? Then you've performed a "SG_CODIEREN" to the KOMBI. These are the steps that tell the cluster that you now have cruise control and it'll display the speed in the centre of the clocks for 3 seconds.
Thank you so much mate, l have installed everyting but didn't coded it yet on to my e90 as l can not find anybody to do for me, l think l might try my self after seeing this video.
Yes it should, but I've never done it. I would say though to use E89 for all NCSExpert parts but when it comes to Tool32 then use DSC_87.prg and not DSC-89.prg. It's worth a try.
I'm sorry, I'd love to say yes but I don't know anyone that does this anywhere. To the best of my knowledge I'm the only one, and I'm the ither side of the world. If there are any BMW independents around they may be able to help.
Hey so i just did this retrofit and it isnt working on my z4. I am curious with the plug difference on your car. My car has a big white plug that connects to the slip rim on the stalk assembly. Your plug is a a small black one. I corded the car and everything works except cruise control. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Firstly what year is yours? I ask because this setup has been used by BMW since around 2006 on the 3 series, and then in 2009 for the E89 Z4 through to 2016. Earlier Z4's (E85/6) used a different setup completely. But all E89 Z4's used this setup, there is no other type.
@xxwestcoastkillaxx393 alas can't do that as I'm working all day. But if you can send me a photo of the plug you mean I'll look into it, my email is anubis4120@googlemail.com 👍

@noelszabo1291 you have to buy the full, three stalk, assembly. The internal PCB is specifically for the cruise control, you can't just add the cruise stalk on its own. If you've got the rear wiper, then make sure the wiper stalk has this.

Excellent 👍 Great information

Hi Mil, the only difference between this retrofit and the factory version you have is the speedo cluster. The factory one has the red and green LED around the outside, whereas this doesn't provide that, but mine does now 😎👍

I do have Idrive so that’s what I’m going to work with
For me the comfort access is more for the folding mirrors and the roof to close with the key rather than the starting without the key bit
Sir you are a legend and again thank you
For the Mr12volt, there is a direct link in my video description to buy it from them 👍
For close on fob, then I'd recommend the SmartTop module, around £350, it's plug-n-play and no coding!
As for folding mirrors, as long as you already have folding mirrors, then the SmartTop will give you this for fold on lock and unfold on unlock. Or you can actually code it in with NCSExpert 👍
I'm actually doing a video on retrofitting Powerfold mirrors and the instant fold option (instead of waiting 2 seconds pressing the folb)
If you want to discuss options further then you can email me directly on anubis4120 @ googlemail dot com (reconfigured to avoid spam bots!)

Hi
Thanks for the quick answer. I will try and look for the software part I am missing to make the coding. The guide you have made is very good with all details I need to make it easy and right installation 😀
Hi Dave, thank you in the first instance for putting all the bits on for goodies fitting the Z4 e89,
I follow with great enthusiasm.
As for the warning triangle , I've no idea as I've never had that before in all the 400+ cruise retrofits I've done.

i bought a used cruise control lever, that seems to have only on level for +/-. is this an incorrect one? it fits and looks the same…
It'll do the same job, just without the +/- 5mph stage on it. You can just press and hold the CC stalk to increase speed constantly or pull and hold to decrease speed/brake, although you can still do this with the accelerator/brake respectively.

Brilliant step by step video, CC working ok but no display of speed setting on the dash,
Model E89 20i 2013, any ideas appreciated.

@TerryKitchener glad you managed to sort it 👍
Yes, as it happens, I have videoed/photoed a Powerfold retrofit and it will be an upcoming video. It was, along with others, actually filmed two years ago, I've still not got around to sorting them all yet.
Hey so I think I found the issue I went back through the complete program part again and the trace file was still on 1 not 2 as I had previously set it to
I re did each step and it’s all working
also before I started I did a fault scan and found 3 faults in the cluster I reset them and this time it worked no problems so maybe it was me or the reset that allowed it to write properly
Thank you as I said before fantastic video and guidance throughout also the support was very much appreciated
Onto the next 3 jobs
PDC retrofit
Comfort access and Apple CarPlay if you have any advice please let me know and again thank you
Excellent, I'm glad you’ve found the issue 👍
PDC, relatively straightforward 👍
Comfort Access, not done it myself, I know it has been done. Each to their own, though 👍
CarPlay, I have done a few different types. Check out my other videos. My favourite and highly recommended is the Mr12volt version if you have iDrive 👍
Thank you @BMW Z4 Mods, for this step by step guide, very useful
I have a question, in many other guides i have seen, this is the first one i see, that it is necessary to change the value of "TEMPOMAT_SETZ_ANZ_DAUER".
Hi, I'm glad you liked the video 👍
I've also read about the 4 cylinder vs 6 cylinder issues with interest. Firstly I can not say for absolute certainty that this is not true, but from my own findings, I've fitted CC to all engine models of the E89 using the same stalks and the same process and its worked on every occasion (in excess of 400 now!). So I would say Yes do everything the same.
Hope that helps,
Dave
Hi! thanks for the answer, it's always helpful....
@@BMWZ4Mods That's great, much appreciated, thanks.
If the software you use has the E90 option then use it (I doubt it will though), if not the just use the E89 as that'll sort it still 👍
As for the E87 😳🤔 no idea, it "should" have still needed coding!
hello there, I have a question, how do you know the codes of all of those ECUs that you are reprogramming to communicate with the new hardware? did you figure it yourself or you found it somewhere?

Hi grate instructions but I have hit a problem the cruise control works but dose not display anything in the instrument cluster have you had this before
Yes, what model and year car do you have?
I'll be super impressed if this goes answered:
My conversion has failed.
I have an e88 with active steering.
It had normal cruise control $540
Nothing failed software wise, except it just doesn't work.

Would this be because I haven't coded the new stalk in....or ...when I put the put the cruise control stalk assembly in, should I have taken the black facia (clock) off my old fitting, and fitted it onto the cruise control assembly? I just used the whole cruise control assembly as is
As mentioned on the forum (this is really for others reading this) always a good idea to swap the current slip ring over, as you know it is a good working one 👍
Hi, i have followed you video and everything has worked fine except when resetting the fault codes (had to use dsc87 instead)
Now the problem i cant work out, when i try to use the cruise control i get a fault code of the "cruise cluster" with a explamation mark.
@@BMWZ4Mods Perfect, again many thanks Mark!
I had a question on this... can I install the parts but do the coding another day? Or will there be issues if I don't code at the same time?
Hello, I like to ask you if that will work as well with my Z4 23i E89 2009? thank you
Yes this will work with all of the E89 models. The one in the video is a 23i as well 👍
Can you provide any info regarding my E87.
I can see from the comments someone else has had the same issue. My E87 has sucesfully coded in the Cruise Control but doesnt show the speed or set speed etc in the instrumnt cluster. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks
Double check if you have coded TEMPOMAT_SETZ_ANZ_DAUER to WERK_02 on KOMBI.
Did you manage to get it working? I have the same issue but have WERT_02 programmed in ok..
Once its fully coded all the warning lights should go out 👍
If not then there's a problem.
Many thanks! Waiting to hear from the garage now 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
All installed and fully coded. Warning lights off and everything works a treat! Thanks for your advice ☺️

6989580
9121901
9169072
9110887
These ones all have the 5mph increment on the cruise stalk.
Thanks.
Exactly the same coding, I've done auto, manual, heated and non heated makes no difference for this retrofit 👍
That’s good to hear, it’s got to be my next mod👍. Thanks for the info

Did this work exactly for your E82 or did you have to do anything differently?
WHEN you coded ZDSC, what file from work folder does it use? Does it write your kombi file you extracted earlier into DSC? thanks
It default codes the ZDSC to the car file, you don't need to pick a file specifically it does it automatically .
First of all Thank you for very detailed video! I have retrofitted cruise control to my E91 but for some reason it’s not working. Had couple differences in programing:
There was no NFRM module so chose FRM also instead of ZDSC had to choose BDSC cause there was no other option. Despite those differences programing went fine...
Also i’m not sure about my dashboard because it seems like older version than yours. (has a smaller BC screen)
Gonna try to figure out what is missing, also any help is welcome.

Any suggestions what has happened and are there any workarounds thanks

It is possible to drive without coding, but I don't recommend it at all. Your dash will be like a Christmas tree, you'll loose DTC, power steering will be off or heavy and everything just won't feel right.
It's all down to the Steering Angle Sensor being disturbed and requiring resetting.

@@BMWZ4Mods 2014 BMW z4 sDrive35i could I do a video call with you tomorrow so you can check it out and let me know if I missed something?
@xxwestcoastkillaxx393 alas can't do that as I'm working all day. But if you can send me a photo of the plug you mean I'll look into it, my email is anubis4120@googlemail.com 👍
Is the coding the same for kph z4's instead of miles?
The coding is exactly the same , it's not affected in any way.
