I've bought nothing but BMW's for past 20 years. Until the Tesla Model 3 arrived. The biggest factor for my switch was maintenance and reliability. The Tesla has about 18 moving parts vs. over 3000 in the BMW. Worries about the BMW high pressure fuel pump, plastic timing chain guides, vanos ticking sounds, wastegate problems, leaking valve covers, etc. have always been the "norm" and you just try to factor into the ownership experience. But now the Model 3 is quicker than my V8 E93 M3, weighs the same, handles just about the same, and even has close to the same fuel range. The Tesla has a far bigger interior, far greater storage space, and all I have to worry about maintenance wise is changing coolant every 4 years, brake fluid every 2 years, and keeping tires on it. It was a no brainier when you also factor never paying for gas or even having to stop at a gas station, I just plug it in my garage once in awhile. BMW now says they are advancing their plans for electric models by 2 years, promising 2023. I can't wait. Until then though, the Tesla is just too much fun. I have over 25k miles on it already!
Edward Zheng I have a white Model 3 Performance since 3 weeks. The insurance is cheaper than my previous Volvo V60. And it's a lot quieter. The build quality and paint are excellent, got no complaints. You have to realize there are so many lies and desinformation about Tesla.
Edward Zheng with other automakers issues such as this will take a long time to get resolved but with tesla they move fast and service issues will get resolved fast
I own a bmw 3 series f30, and watched dozens of model 3 review video. one thing I noticed is that everyone who reviews model 3 has a smile on their face. I gotta buy a model 3!
I owned 5 BMWs before I switched to Tesla. After I got the Tesla I had one regret. Not buying a Tesla earlier. Great review by Carlos, he really nailed it. None of that useless drifting cars comparison, completely focused on the driving dynamics and briefly summing up the history of the ultimate driving machine. It is sad to see BMW 3 series turning into a nice Honda Accord. Carlos is right, the bmw cars have become very soft. I swear 5 generations of bmw 3 series and each next generation was softer and laggier than the one before. The 4 cylinder F90 is extremely loud and unpleasant noise, it sounds like a diesel and suffer form massive turbo lag. Even the M340 (fake M) has a turbo lag, unless you drive it like a maniac in Sport plus mode. BMWs cost more to purchase and operate and can’t be kept for more than 4 years unless you are a mechanic. The Tesla model 3 interior is not as posh luxuries as a leather interior BMW and that is be design because except for the steering wheel, there is not a single surface made of leather but unlike any other car in that price range the wood trim is a real wood not some cheap plastic that was made to look like wood. Tesla is truly a better car to drive. In fact you will not won’t to use auto pilot as often as you would think because the car is so much more fun to drive than any BMW or any other vehicle. It’s truly amazing to see a startup company 1st generation car be that good. Look forward to see more video reviews from Carlos
But in the end the tesla will always lack the sound of a combustion engine which is why not many people like electic cars which is why a bmw is more fun to drive than a tesla
@ Edmunds - you are about 2 years behind in your testing. The model 3 hands down beats the BMW 3 & 5 series and the performance model 3 even beats the BMW M3 series.
@japanwatchconnection - its Quite clear TESLA is the Ultimate Driving machine. and the Interior is as Fancy as you want it. you can even get Premium White Seats. as for the REST, the FACT remains the TESLA is a Superior in all Respects, even a Base model 3 with ZERO options is still a Great Fun car to Drive. aside from that TESLA is the Safest car to be in a Accident, but the Safety Systems ensure you don't have an Accident in the FIRST place. see EURO NCAP model 3 tests. and NHSTA tests. its the ONLY car in the World with 6 out of 5 star Safety in every category. and IF you Drive anything other than a TESLA you are 50x more Likely to be GRAVLY injured in a Accident. TESLA do not roll over. and for SOME ICEV Death is almost Certain in a Accident. TESLA saves lives everyday.
@japanwatchconnection You are stuck back in 2017 when the first Model 3s rolled off the line. Recently Bob Lutz who has always been critical of Telsa inspected one and said the fit and finish was top notch. Sandy Munro also changed his tune recently on a complete breakdown of a Model 3 and praised it for it's engineering and innovation. Also his partner separately did a video review and said the build quality was good.
Never thought I’d see the day when the king of sports sedans is dethroned by a 2 year old electric car. That Tesla also has tiny 18” wheels while the BMW is a brand new design with sport package. Very simply BMW has gotten fat, lazy and pathetic. They gave up a huge electric lead, fired their idiotic CEO and they can’t even make a decent 3 series anymore.
Bert 88 I don’t think that is the case.I think BMW still build a good cars but Tesla engineers are more passionate and come up with a better car.Go Elon make America Great again
BMW probably still make reasonable / good cars - when compared to other ICE vehicles. The problem is that ICE cannot compare to EV from a powertrain perspective, and putting the batteries below the floor gives a significant handling boost too (from lowered CoG). Separately, BMW firing their CEO may be a good thing (even if it has come rather late) - it will depend on who replaces him, really.
You cant directly compare these cars. This is a useless test nobody who is thinking about buying a 3 series wouldn't consider a model 3, they arent in the same class. And anyway the tesla is a much worse car every day
IF anyone can remember how good the BMW 3 was back in 2006 or 2007 that was the Tesla 3's benchmark. The older 3 just driving around town was just OK. The ride was stiff below 30 mph and it did not have much bottom-end torque. Rev it up to about 5500 rpm and take a turn at about 90% of its capacity and now the 3 was in its element. The sweet sound of that six. Enter a turn too fast and lose your nerve ...the tail would come around while you scrub off some speed. Get back into the gas and the car would stay wide till you straightened it up. All the while you could feel the tires and the road through the steering wheel. It was a fantastic feeling that few cars could duplicate. That fantastic feeling is how the Tesla 3 feels. All the time. It is just a joy to drive at any speed in any turn or even going to get groceries. The modern BMW 3 is nothing like the older N/A 3.0 six BMW 3's.
Sean Shi Think about a time when you need to change the battery, 1/3 the price of the car. Not until we solve the battery problem would I buy electric cars.

I traded in my BMW for a Model 3 and haven't looked back. I'm a BMW fan, but the difference is just night and day. It's the same difference as a really nice flip phone and a smartphone. They both make calls, but one clearly does so much more.
@Ponga Pandit You've apparently never been in a Tesla or driven one because you would know the answer already. The Tesla has instant torque that throws you back in your seat. Gas cars have a slight delay. Also Teslas have over the air updates. Every month my car improves. New software (just like a smartphone) adds new features, increases speed, increases battery range. When in park, it has built in video games, and web browser (just to name a few). Trust me, these cars are insane and cost the same as gas cars that can't do any of this stuff.

I've had my Model 3 for just over a year (LR RWD, presumably the same configuration as the 2017 model in the video, since the other options & configurations weren't offered until fairly late in 2018), and I still really love it, and I still find that it's the most enjoyable car I've ever driven! I've (occasionally) gotten some pretty nice rentals on business trips (Mercedes, BMW, Infiniti, and even a 370Z), and I easily prefer my Model 3 to all of them. It's not perfect (I can rattle off a list of minor annoyances, software issues, and a couple poor design choices), but no car is perfect, and after a year of ownership, I still love this car!
Some think that the driving style and acceleration is something that all EV have, i would say it is more a Tesla-thing. I drove the Kia E-Niro and to be honest it felt like a diesel.. I was so disappointed. I got the TM3P in the end and this thing is a joke. The interior grows on you and will probably last longer than in the BMW.
To me they feel the same, Teslas just tend to have the stronger kick and acceleration. But the driving dynamics and feel are identical otherwise. Many people also confuse tire-driven steering response with something particular to the car model. The larger the rims, the more responsive the steering feels, and this has nothing to do with the rest of the car, it just comes from the height of the tire sidewalls.
Carl Knott BMW is NOT dead, they just have to adapt. They just fired their top guy, who didn't believe in EV's until it was too late. However, in time they'll get there. All other car manufacturers all over the world are years, if not a decade, behind Tesla (just as is the case with Apple in the tech world). Why? Well, because they let auto dealers handle their sales who want nothing to do with an electric car with so few parts to break, and therefore, there goes their major profits; and the oil industry, which, well, I don't need to remind you all of their insterest.
I think that it’s all about the name. They will adapt and stay there for years to come. You might not realise it but the world is a big place. Tesla is selling well in the west but not so much in other places. I assure you That in Asia and Africa people still loves the status that come with the bmw and Lexus
EVs will always be and feel fast and smooth compared to any ICE car. Model 3 is fun AF to drive. That quickness will never get old. I'm so happy I bit the bullet and got one
@ Edmunds - a ICEV is Less Efficient and it Takes A Long Time to spool up to top Speed, With a Tesla the instant Torque is delivered to both axles INSTANTLY. and acceleration is INSTANT as well.
Every driving in traffic and just around town is so much fun in the Tesla Model 3. I was a Subaru STI guy and loved the torque of that car and the ability to play (six speed manual). When I took a test drive with a Model S 75, the speed and the planted feeling you get was amazing. The regenerative breaking also made my love the car even more as I always loved the manual transmission and the regen gives you the same feeling and control.Instant torque is king and I am sure that anyone that loves a performance car for its drivability would like a Tesla. I do not care about the sound of the engine as it only makes me aware of all the issues that my engine will have/does have (STI only sounded good with 94 octane +, other wise it would ping).
I sold my hopped up Golf R for a Model 3. Had both cars for a month or so before I realized I would much rather take the 3 canyon carving and sold the R.
I moved from a 2012 Prius to a 2018 Model 3 dual motor. The difference blew my mind. I never wanted to spend more money to get a BMW and the like. I don't care about genuine leather seats, and all those knobs, buttons, and what not. Who cares about the gold plated buttons on a higher end DVD player when one has an iPad.
Yup, any car from early-90s onwards can probably get more power from a software update (also known as a 'remap')... however, Tesla is currently the only ones who would roll that out for free to all customers, and is able to do it Over The Air so you don't even have to visit the stealership. Even more impressively, they rolled out an update that gave all their cars greater range too (something that usually declines if you get a remap on an ICE vehicle), and improved recharge times (not really comparable to ICE vehicles). IMO the fact that Tesla are still rolling out free updates to cars they sold in 2012 is the amazing part - it's a level of support unheard of from every other automaker.
I have owned and driven 2 BMW's, 3 Audi's in the past and I can honestly state that Tesla Model 3 is the most innovative 1st generation vehicle product for the history of car industry. It was absolutely shocking experience when I first testdrove model 3.
I just bought a Tesla Model 3 after driving BMW's for over 15 years. It was time to go with an EV and BMW doesn't offer a sports sedan EV. They really dropped the ball on this one. I'll never go back to ICE cars again. Love my Model 3.
Interesting how when the reviewer is talking about the BMW, he nonchalantly spouts off specs and says it's an okay car. But his tone changes quite noticeably when he's in the Tesla, and you can tell he genuinely enjoys driving it more than the BMW.
Joseph yes you definitely should! It should be more or less the same but the 2019 is of course better since now they offer Dual Motors & All Wheel Drive. Lemme if you’d like my Tesla Referral Code so we can both get 1000 free supercharger Miles! 😄
Yes : Tesla isn't doing model years..They don't wait 4 years then roll out the all new 2020 model 3.. They make improvements as they go (like software).. EG: The 2019 model S has a long list of improvements and is significantly better than the 2013 model S.. (newer active suspension, better fit finish, new front motor, etc)
Tesla Model 3 has beaten the BMW M3 around a track. It handles really well. In snow and ice situation, the race car driver said it was the best car he had ever raced. It was like he was cheating it had so much grip and poise and he always felt in full control.
@ Edmunds - Driving an ICEV in 2019 is like Riding a Horse & Buggy , when compared to Driving a TESLA in 2019. Even the most Efficient ICEV Engine is only 30% Efficient. And I can Fully Charge my car at home on 240v. You cant fuel up a ICEV at home.
How long it takes to charge vs how long to fill up at gas station? Also, which is more fun and engaging to drive? The bmw fails to live up to its heritage, doesn't mean that in general, EVs are more fun than icev
RagingNipples - Most ICEV take 4 minutes to fill up, but you cant leave your car unattended. you actually spend MORE time at a gas station, to purchase snacks and use the bathroom after you fill up. And you have to find a parking spot. A Tesla model 3 can charge up to 1000 mph or gain 180 miles in 5 minutes. You CAN leave your Tesla unattended to grab a snack and use the bathroom.
Mark Plott umm buying snacks is a factor not attributed to the car so, redundant point. And your house doesn't have the 5 minute capable charger. And there isn't one spread across as there are gas stations. And you skipped the point about driver engagement. Preface, I own 7 cars and 5 of them are manual so I may be biased.
RagingNipples - BTW, when Tesla had Battery swap deployed in a few Supercharger, Tesla was able to swap batteries in Four Vehicles in the time it took to fill up. But, rightfully Tesla went with Supercharger, it’s more convenient and lower cost.
RagingNipples - even IF you buy a Standard/Base Model 3 with ZERO options, it’s still a FUN car to Drive Manually, and you can use AP3 when you commute.
Odd question: that tape @2:29 to secure the wires, what kind is it? My dashcam wires dangle somewhat annoyingly and I want it neatly tucked away like that.
Thanks for the fair driving comparison. But as matter of additional information. Tesla Model 3 has been certified to be the safest car on the planet. Has a vast array of super charging stations. Has an electronic connectivity to mother Tesla, therefore the car will be able to instantly receive an upgrade. It has an assist auto pilot with 100% capability as soon as it will be made available and the proper government permit issued. when we just add that the Model 3 is far more dependable, surely it will have a far longer life and its resale value will stay sky high, while its total operating costs are just a little fraction to what a BMW of any description will have. All of these features are alien to BMW. Had you driven the Model 3 performance model, and not the bare bone model, the BMW would have shown all its obsolescence in comparison. To be fair the BMW has been a great car of the eighty. so time for retirement as per customers will. I hope in a few years BMW will again stupefy us, but their first try to compete against Tesla in the 21 century so far has disappointed us all.
After 15 years with BMWs I switched to Tesla. And the Model 3 is highly efficient at 100mph on the Autobahn. The interior materials are not on the same level as the BMWs but the Infotainment System and overall interior concept is years ahead.
I just ordered a Model 3 SR+, I have an E46 M3 but I have not been interested in buying any BMW model over the last 10 years. I think having IMO one of the best BMWs of all time has ruined my opinion after driving the new ones.
It's obvious from watching this review and reading the comments, everyone is a Tesla fan and not a true car person. While less, the rate with which an electric car accelerates is quicker than a combustion engine car; there is more to a car than 0-60 time. The feel, the sound (a major source of sensoral excitement), the fit and finish, all things the Tesla doesn't have. I've owned BMWs, I've owned muscle cars and roadsters and sports cars; I've driven more than one Tesla, and for me they simply don't invoke passion. I couldn't care less about virtue signaling or status which honestly is what most Tesla owners care about; I care about the entire driving experience which is why the BMW wins for me. Least we not forget, the Tesla is simply ugly inside and out. There are electric cars I could get excited about as a car guy; but they are all way more than 50-60k. And then at that price point, there are also exotic gas powered cars I'd rather drive.
One may be superior doesn't mean another is inferior, only americans with low IQ couldnt accommodate other opinions on cars thinking tesla is always better meanwhile teslas are facing QC issues, build quality issues and many more, bmws are already tried and tested
I won't ding BMW on that - being 20th century and all - but there are the top of their game for an ICE caar. Fact is, Tesla leapfrogged them into the middle of the 21st century. Can they catch up - can any of the German manufacturers catch up? No one knows. In the meantime my Tesla blows the doors (quietly) off of all the Bimmers that we can corner at a red light (they are shy, they hold back on purpose these days). It's sad.

Agree with most of the comments and for sure the Model 3 is a great vehicle (if you like all controls integrated in a touchscreen). What trim level is this model 3? Your description says 310 mile range which makes me think this is a Long Range AWD, but the trunk does not have a Dual Motor badge indicative of AWD versions. Is it a Long Range Rear wheel drive version? Then it would be a 325 mile range and not 310 as stated in your description. It couldn't be a Standard Range Plus because they didn't make those in 2017. It's not a mid-range either. The description says 10 speaker but premium interiors have 14 speakers and only premium interiors we're available in 2017. To any extent Edmunds needs to be clear of the trim level of the car they are demonstrating and only then can the consumer make an informed decision.
ironqqq the original RWD Model 3 was rated at 310 miles , but Tesla unlocked a range boost over the air to make it 325 miles. The test car in the video is probably the RWD and he’s quoting the original 310 miles that was advertised.
Carlos, BMW lost me when they went from building the "Ultimate Driving Machine" to trying to capture the"luxury car segment" that they thought they were losing shares on. In trying to build both they gave up reliability, and the pure driving ecstasy that they once had. Now I understand the "M" series is still an option, but once upon a time, you did not have to buy the "M series to get a great driving car that made you look for excuses to go to the market. I really don't believe that's the case any more. Sorry but BMW has become a 25K car, with a 25K Roundel on the hood:(
You just reminded me of what drove me away from BMW years back----run flat tires. They gave me no option.....had to come with run flats. Now for those reading this and watching the above.....I must warn you: You'll never go back to ICE cars. Buy a Tesla and I guarantee fun driving... Also much safer. And you'll have a better car over time because of software updates. As far as the interior......much better than any German car. He's wrong about the interior.
Wirmish - no most likely the Standard Model 3 with no MODS. Even if you get a Base Model 3 and get a lowering kit and Performance parts you will be ahead. It’s the Standard model 3 because the reviewer mentions that this was NOT the Performance and that he did not know the setting. Performance model 3 has Track mode and settings for Driving aggressive.
I believe this Model 3 was one of the early ones with long range battery pack but RWD rather than dual motor AWD. It's not currently available, but prices have fallen, making the faster AWD less expensive than this Model 3 was. As Bart pointed out, even the Performance Model 3 with 20" wheels and PS4S tires now costs less than this BMW.
I own many German cars from Porsche, Audi, BMW and can confidently say the Tesla is my favorite car because of power and efficiency. The technology is way ahead of other cars. Tesla has captured that “it” quality in the 3s, there are many reasons not to own one, but those are so outweighed by the “it”. My mother who drives one (who doesn’t know the first thing about cars) said the same thing. It feels like the person who designed it loved it.

It is unfair to compare a Tesla to a BMW. Though they are in the same price range, Tesla has too many technological advantages that allow them better performance per dollar. The BMW M series is still a lot of fun and very well engineered (except in terms of reliability).
It's an equivalent car (sedan) targeting the same market, at roughly the same price, with the same goals.... the fact that Tesla has the better tech shouldn't invalidate the comparison - if anything, it should reinforce it, given that BMW were a 'leader' in the nascent EV market, and decided to turn their back on it rather than take advantage of their leadership. So, when another company turns up that *did* follow the path BMW ignored, and it proves to be better than the legacy technology BMW stuck with, they absolutely should be compared - it's the easiest way to tell whether BMW made the right choice or not (and, on the basis of this video - and many others - they didn't).
I have over 25k miles on it already!
now the maintenance is even less on the newer models
What about insurance, noise, build & paint quality and low waiting parts replacement& service line of tesla?? People should keep that in mind...
Edward Zheng I have a white Model 3 Performance since 3 weeks. The insurance is cheaper than my previous Volvo V60. And it's a lot quieter. The build quality and paint are excellent, got no complaints.
You have to realize there are so many lies and desinformation about Tesla.
@japanwatchconnectionLOL, you are right. Fanboys are likely to eat me alive.....
Edward Zheng with other automakers issues such as this will take a long time to get resolved but with tesla they move fast and service issues will get resolved fast

@japanwatchconnection Model 3 performance beats the M3 going around a track...
japanwatchconnection clearly haven’t seen the videos of Tesla M3 beating c63 and M3 on the track

@@dulcica America was always great. Elon will make it better :)
Agree, under the current (now former) CEO BMW got very complacent.

BMW is dead meat whether everyone realize it or not.
Why? Well, because they let auto dealers handle their sales who want nothing to do with an electric car with so few parts to break, and therefore, there goes their major profits; and the oil industry, which, well, I don't need to remind you all of their insterest.
yup their sales is getting crushed my Tesla

I think that it’s all about the name. They will adapt and stay there for years to come. You might not realise it but the world is a big place.

I've loved cars all my life, but this transition is more than necessary for our own sake; Just ask yourself: do you REALLY value a good engine sound a 'driving experience' over yours and your family's existence? Most likely not...
Laws in EU and Asia are mandating emissions free cars with a very aggressive schedule. It is not an option anymore. Now it is all about how quickly they can switch to EV manufacturing and if they can even survive the switch.
Great points
Not even close. Tesla wins easy. This BMW is so sad. Tesla for long for, fast, and for green planet. The BMW should go on t of business, nothing but unreliable piece of German engineering junk.
What a great review. Thanks!
Got rid of our BMW 3-series a month and a half ago and replaced it with a Tesla Model 3. We vastly prefer the Tesla.
BMW has totally forgotten what made them desirable. Plus the new car looks awful.
BMW hasn't forgotten. If you want the equivalent of an e30 or an e46 3 series, drive an M2. Fun car in the perfect size. Though probably not more fun than a Tesla Model 3 Performance.
@@doubleclutchonline5811 The base bottom of the line BMW 2 is fantastic. It still costs about the same as a bottom of the line Tesla 3. The base Tesla 3 is still better than the BMW2.
@Ponga Pandit Oh please. The design of the Model 3 is purposeful and clean for efficiency and ease of use. No fake vents or synthesized exhaust on a Tesla. Teslas are more old-school German than any new German car.
@Ponga Pandit I hate the new BMW grill. The car looked better 2 generations ago. I just took the 340m for a drive. It felt like a slug compared to the tesla 3 (base). Yes, the 340 is faster. It did not feel that way. The tesla 3 weighs more than the BMW 3 but feels 500-pounds lighter. The steering in the BMW is lifeless until you get to highway speeds. The BMW grill was again hideous. The interior of the BMW is beautiful but it is far more dark cramped and complicated than the Teslas bright and airy cockpit.
BMW should’ve kept manual for fun factor. Sure, it’s not as fast as auto, but ICE is not as fast as EV, at least in this segment, so who cares!
Agree with most of the comments and for sure the Model 3 is a great vehicle (if you like all controls integrated in a touchscreen). I believe it would be more interesting to compare a 340 xdrive as it is similar in terms of power and base price. As a 330i version the BMW never had a chance of course.
*the almost perfect weight distribution helps a lot in corners. That also makes Model 3 unique.
You guys need a 2019 car to test. The interior build has improved since you 2 year old model 3.
Was this a rear wheel drive Model 3?
Tesla for the win. The superior product prevail again. It's now becoming very embarrassing for BMW.
@japanwatchconnection In nearly every driving metric the Model 3 is superior. Doesn't stop you from buying the inferior car though. People make that choice all the time.
Who cares that the Model 3 hands BMW their ass in technology, performance and cost to operate. As a BMW owner you can still laugh at a Model 3 for its industry standard panel gaps before it leaves you in the dust to deal with yet another check engine light.
@japanwatchconnection No, such a made up car sounds terrible, but a Tesla is superior. BMW head was quoted as praising the Model 3 while badgering his own designers that they cannot make anything that good...
@@JT-xq2hv The build quality thing might have been true for a few months while they were ramping up initial production. Has not been a problem since then, at least not as big a problem as for other car brands.
@japanwatchconnection Old news. Our 2019 is beautiful and blows the doors off of EVERYTHING street legal.
@japanwatchconnection ever heard whats in the inside that counts? European luxury brands is like a beautiful gold digger. Tesla even if it has a couple panel gaps is still smaller than the gaps between jessica simpsons thighs. Tesla is what you use to to reliably get you to places, help protect your family in the safest cars in the world. and help save the world while you leave BMWs in your rear view
As mentioned, the Tesla is heavier which is a negative when going through curves etc. However, EVs are still evolving and when Tesla incorporates its Maxwell dry electrode tech, it should/could reduce the size/weight of the battery pack (while keeping the same range) so even the BMW/ICE weight advantage will be fading soon.
As you just saw in this video the Tesla already has an weight advantage.. Yes its heavy, and yes low CoG is good.. but your missing the real reason it is already more nimble; All that weight is centered. (EG mid engine car)..
Its not like BMW has lost their edge? It’s just that another company built a better car.
Better car? Thats subjective
@@DeeeBeee123 no, its only “subjective” if its something that you feel it works for you. Not in a comparison to see what stands out more than the other
Why not compared against 340i ???
If you have BMW shares sell them now. Tesla is far superior and wait until our children sue BMW from knowingly shoving harmful emissions into the environment. BMW had the edge with the i3 but did nothing to progress it. Shame on you BMW and goodbye.
whats funny is tesla is getting billions a year from VW and Ford etc in regulatory credits cause they lied about emissions and has to keep numbers down so they buy to add tesla cars jn their sheets lol
Distantarray I didn’t know that. You couldn’t make it up!
@@arribus30 fun thing too "The man who loves his Tesla Model X (his wife egged him to buy the machine) but hates Tesla stock has now admitted to buying a “few” Tesla shares because he said he’s been very impressed of late with Tesla’s unwavering ability to attract the best engineering talent in the field" mr wonderful lol sharktank
Single motor LR. Should be obvious when he said it has same power as BMW (250 hp).
Sorry but BMW has become a 25K car, with a 25K Roundel on the hood:(
electric for win from india.......
Hi reddy
@@zooomthesquirrel3707 Hi zoom
Edmunds, what is the price as tested for that BMW? I know they cost close to $60k fully optioned.
Very frank discussion of how modern cars have become more insulated and simulated despite being faster
Wait, this wasn't even the Performance Model 3!
The electric motor can produce force before moving, because electrons are free to move.
But... the Model 3 also doesn't come with a spare tire, so I don't get your point.
Ok this is a fair comparison. I don’t get why they compare the model 3 to bmw m3 all the time. It is orange and apple
Same price and segment. Totally fair.
Is this the *Performance* Model 3 ?
Price of each car as tested ?
Wirmish - no most likely the Standard Model 3 with no MODS.
Even if you get a Base Model 3 and get a lowering kit and Performance parts you will be ahead.
It’s the Standard model 3 because the reviewer mentions that this was NOT the Performance and that he did not know the setting. Performance model 3 has Track mode and settings for Driving aggressive.
BMW 330i was $59,320 as-tested. Tesla Model 3 was $56,000 new, non-performance.
@@CarlosLago Thank you!
@bart122580 Best performance bang for the buck vehicle out there once you factor in operation cost savings.
you compared the AWD tesla model 3 vs the RWD 330i? A more fair comparison would have been between the M340 and model 3 long range AWD.
I own many German cars from Porsche, Audi, BMW and can confidently say the Tesla is my favorite car because of power and efficiency. The technology is way ahead of other cars.
I have a 2019 Model 3 Long Range on 18 inch wheels and the only downside is ride quality over bumpy road is not good.
One other thing i give to German car is the higher highway speed stability especially in BMW is better.
All that said I still prefer the Tesla.
BMW has completely lost it's way.
bmw didnt really lose its way, its like dating a new girl and meeting the family. then realizing you got the ugliest one in the family. still doesnt mean shes bad, just means now you seen better.
I love Tesla but those rims are cringe worthy next to the BMW 🤣🤣🤣
Ron Cooke those are removable aero wheel covers. th-cam.com/video/WqBKGRARrxY/w-d-xo.html
They offer a sport wheel that looks good and has a much more suitable tire for spirited driving.
@@southieparker the fact that they are hub caps is even worse for a luxury car. I'm well aware that they are removable but this is the look Tesla was going for. It's also the cheapest option so it's what we will see on the road the most.
@@southieparker Indeed, and the wheels underneath look great. But I can't totally poo-poo the aero style either...it's functional, and low drag is extra appreciated on an EV!
If you take off the covers there are gray alloy rims that look fantastic with the gray paint.
the new 3 series
Tesla has captured that “it” quality in the 3s, there are many reasons not to own one, but those are so outweighed by the “it”. My mother who drives one (who doesn’t know the first thing about cars) said the same thing. It feels like the person who designed it loved it.
Yes hard to beat the model 3 and no pollution
i think the sale are 3 to 1 for model 3

@ Edmunds- next time do a real comparison, BMW 3 series vs Model 3 Performance and aftermarket Racing Kit.
Mark Plott aftermarket racing kit? How does that make it a fair comparison?
This was a way more fair comparison
That makes no sense to have aftermarket anything in a comparison. And stop with the 50 comments for god's sake. Make one of your lame comments and leave it at that.
Model 3 all the way. BMW has gone from hero to zero.
No the thing they have to do best is not pollute. Can’t remember the last time I took my car round a race track. As for sound, the quieter the better as far as I concerned. The reason the tyres are squealing is because your going to fast😎
Bmw 330i has 4 zylinders??
High praise indeed from Carlos Lagos mouth. And he’s got plenty of automotive journalistic creds from his days at MotorTrend.
6:35 "a little bit more.." what?
Why would you be talking about interior quality and design in a video that is exclusively about driving dynamics
The title literally says review & compare not just driving Dynamics 🤦♂️
cause they want to give bmw owners a little face
The future is now! Time to join the revolution!
No thanks!
It is unfair to compare a Tesla to a BMW. Though they are in the same price range, Tesla has too many technological advantages that allow them better performance per dollar. The BMW M series is still a lot of fun and very well engineered (except in terms of reliability).
yea tesla brought as AK 47 against billy the kid against his revolver its not really fair
BMW 3 series 330i V6?
yeah its a v6
