Due to this simplicity there is no starter to wear out, no glow plugs to go bad, just simple parts a regular farmer can easily fix if needed.
A normal Farmer can fix a old normal tractor.
@@Simon-dl8si I agree, but with this design it's even simpler. No need to worry about a starter, no need to worry about a battery, etc.

Technically the starter goes bad every start.

I have an old backup diesel generator that starts that way, without the smoldering plug. It has never failed to start during a power outage. The nearest I can tell is that it was made just before World War II. The generator has been replaced a few times. But the engine is original.

You’d need a cigarette too after being handled that way
what they did not show was that the big wheel on the right side had to be set in order to get the compression in the right spot. Saw this on another video.
The dog is more excited about that rebuild.

The blow of the cartridge delivers enough power to push a piston down and start an engine, I guess. :-)
and the paper on fire acts like a glowplug I think
How much are the cartridges, and are they readily available??
Cartridges are available in every gun shop, the shot is then removed of course otherwise you could be charged with intentional homicide of a tractor.

I have a shot gun start backup generator. The generator part of it has been changed a few times. But the old diesel engine is original.
I assume the 12 gauge shells are blanks made for this purpose?
I recall the old movie with Jimmy Stewart, "Flight of the Phoenix." He was a pilot that used shotguns shells to start an airplane engine. I had never known the mechanical history of starting engines that way.
Any 12 bore with shot removed would suffice.@@celticman1909
That would be a pain to stall and restart in the middle of a remote paddock!
The cheeky answer would be, that the farmer would have to ride shotgun !!!

Do u guys still have the strap for the side to run anything preferably a splitter these guys will not know strap or u could just take tire off and strap goes on the wheel runs lots. U guy’s see predictor where Arnold lifts there tractor in the Air or any tire from around the world runs anything back then
I just recorded this event and sorry to report I have no information on the technicalities of this tractor.
It us a blank cartridge.
Yes, its a blank that starts the compression and off you go.
I thought shotguns were sometimes used to stop an engine.
Nope, they can’t cause enough damage other than to the radiator. An engine will laugh at a shotgun blast as it leaves the scene.
