Very nice backdrop of the town and surrounds towards the end of the video. Tractors like this make one appreciate the ease of starting and operating a modern tractor compared to what it was often like up to about the mid-60s.
I grew up in the countryside in the UK early 1950s. We called these pom pom tractors, for obvious reasons. Our farmers were not dressed like that guy. Good to see the tractor in such condition . I never saw them clean!
That's one beautiful tractor. I love old tractors. Never heard about this one till today. I'm a fan of the old John Deere's. My dad owned a John Deere Model B when I was a kid. It was a blast to drive. I will be looking up more info on this one when I'm done here. Thanks for posting this beauty. Take care.
That is not a John Deere that is a field marshal made at Gainsborough in the UK possibly during or just after the Second World War true most of our best machinery is now made in Germany this is one of the bits of machinery that helped to bring them down
@@johnbroome3054 Yes John, I was just stating my experience with old tractors from my childhood. The Field Marshall is very cool. Sorry for not explaining it better. Take care.
6 litre single cylinder aligned fore and aft. Hence the reason they rock back and forth at idle. The cartridge is the wimp's way of starting them. Hand cranking gives you a fine work out if they decide they don't want to play
My father had these as threshing sets in the 40’s and early 50’s the only difference was they were the “Contractors” model with sprags and a winch lovely pop -pop sound brings back memories.
These tractors were used in uk in the fifties for hauling and belt driving threshing machinery on farms by contractors replacing steam engines that had done the job for years. The cartridge start was rarely used other than in cold weather. Starting was quite simple. The threaded tee piece at the front would be removed and a tightly rolled piece of special slow burning paper fitted in the end as shown. Lit with a match and while smouldering screwed back into place. Then a decompressor lever with a tapered wheel would be raised and lifted into a groove in the flywheel. This spiral groove allowed the operator having placed the starting handle in the wheel to turn the engine over approx three turns allowing the decompressor lever to drop off at the correct point for starting. The whole process took about two minutes, they rarely failed to start. Anyway cartridges were expensive. Once warm the tractor could be started easily by just putting decompressor in groove and briskly turning starting handle. All in a minute or so. The tractors were ok for farm work requiring haulage like ploughing, harrowing and cultivation but not really much use for other farm work. Nice restoration though but try starting with the handle as they are designed to do it is quite easy.
Just taking the old tractor for a Sunday drive, actually it looks modern, punched above her weight in the day I would expect. Fully airconditioned also at no extra costs, can't be bad:).
They certainly did punch! The drivers used to say that they were impossible to stall - the wheels just continued to turn and dig up the ground. Similar with all the other single-cylinder tractors of that era and before, in Germany and France mostly, with their massive flywheels.
Had one exactly like this one in the video in a tea garden here in The Dooars (Debpara Tea Estate) way back in the early 1980s. Saw it being started up and driven sometimes because it was already a vintage tractor by then and Messy Ferguson, Escorts and Ford tractors were already being used by then.
This way of starting - using a 12-bore cartridge - was only recommended for use in very cold weather. I'm not sure but it may not be very good for the engines to use this method all the time. They're easy enough to start in the conventional way, with a handle - see from 2.40 to 3.40 in this video: th-cam.com/video/3b6WQ3WSqc0/w-d-xo.html
The start up procedure for that tractor is nothing short of pure comedy. About ten steps, the most bizarre being setting fire to the front of it and then shooting it with a shotgun cartridge...you wouldn't want to be in a hurry ...lol
Wiadomo, amerykanska technologia! - i sam odpala :D.

That green thing with the handle is probably more valuable than the john Deere....I used to drive john deeres....good tractors for sure....the field Marshall is a belter....😉
njkip ha ha sorry 😐 drove one ☝️ years ago, , plenty of slow torque, but up and down, oil all over the driver, HORAPL dam tractor, 👹👹👹🙈🙈👎👎👎🙅♂️🙅♂️best place in the near SCRAP , SKIP 👎👎👎👎👎🙅♂️🙅♂️😂😂😂
nice tractor...did they have to go through this procedure to start the tractor the day before so it could be running for work in the field?....:) ha ha

This tractor was made from 1944
As a baby I lived about 100 yards from the factory where it was made and never more than half a mile from it for 30 years.

It is a beautifully restored tractor, thank you for keeping it alive!
Beautiful restoration nice this is how one should preserve antique for future generations...nice work amazing to see this tek exits back then

Very good. Such a valuable treasure. It has been preserved very well and properly maintained. Never seen before or heard.

I love the deep resonant sounds it makes. It reminds me of Schwarzenegger.

I remember my Father had one of these back around 1958. I used the drive it around the farm. So easy to start too.

What a task was it to start this 🚜 tracktor but still a masterpiece

@bluegtturbo It's not that many steps. "Setting fire" to that piece is exactly the same as using a glow plug, just done in a different way.
Wonderful history of field Marshal you r Lucky u have this masterpiece It's voice is very touching
Perfect restoration 🌪
Nothing beats the torque at low rpm of a twostroke!
Hell big 2 strokes are torque monsters! i got an 8v92 out back.
It is probably field marshal very beautiful condition nicely maintained
Same tractor 1942 india Punjab
Yes mah v vedio deakhe a
Isso é história. Parabéns pela relíquia 👍🏻
Superbe vidéo
Et très beau tracteur.
GRANDIOSOOOOOOOO!!!!
SUPER DUPER HIT TRACTOR👍👍👍👍
Awesome tractor
That little tractor doesn't have any trouble pushing that big one around.
While doing a wheelie too.
Old is Gold 👌
No Doubt ✊

Good
Nice
Is gadi ka price kitna hai

Suppose the police is chasing you and the engine of this tractor stopped.!
My friend you think like Rahul Gandhi, every tractor in this world can get highest speed of 50 to 55 kmpl. Police can catch you on any vehicle.

Just fire one of those 12-bore shotgun cartridges [that are kept for starting the engine] at the police, to keep them at bay and gain a bit of time...

Like the first tractor, there lovely tractors, as for that green thing with a handle start, best thing for that is back off a long barns 👇😒👇🙈🙈

Great job to preserve heritage
