Avalon chose an interesting storyline about transforming into something else. I honestly don't know if the parallels are intentional. @@joshuairwin2016 😂 I'll have to look carefully now to see if I can spot anyone hiding. The location filming was seriously good. It makes TNG and TOS location scenes that were filmed in a studio look like a really low budget fan film, ironically.
Fantastic that you're supporting a first time filmmaker, as it's always rough for someone to get their start. My only curiosity is.. the change in wardrobe after Moore beamed down..
Mr. Irwin: i have watched Star Trek since its beginning in 1966, and I absolutely love most Avalon films, so thanks for another one!. As you already know by some people's criticisms, there is a bit of stilted acting in it that perhaps could have been reshot to be demonstrably better for the Final Cut. It is also a little bit disconcerting to have a man playing a woman's part, not from a sexist position, but the deep bass voice just does not belie the role that the character is supposed to be playing. I won't get into a religious or Christian analysis of the issue, because that is not what Star Trek is all about. Star Trek is about how human society is better with diversity. However, some versions of diversity do not necessarily enhance society. Regardless, thank you for your's and the new producer's efforts.
Hi Andy. Let me see if I can better explain the situation here. These actors were mostly background actors in previous projects. They got together and decided to do their own project so that they would have a chance to be more in the spotlight. All of them had helped out Avalon in many ways that people don't see in the past. I had gotten to know them very well. They are my friends. When I found out about what they were doing, I offered to help them because I care about them. I appreciate what you are saying, but I didn't need criticism in the comments section to know there were issues with the acting. One actress had never done a speaking part before, another was an immigrant from Brazil and English was her second language. She in particular not only struggled with her lines, but with self confidence that she could even do the performance at all. But she pulled it together and made it through. There actually were reshoots, many, many takes and ADR sessions to try and improve things. The group traveled from Florida to Arkansas to shoot the film, and could only afford so many trips. My role was only to provide support. In the end it was their project and my creative control or ability to make suggestions was limited. We got what we were going to get, and some of them honestly did better than I expected them to. With regards to the Trans Actor. That person was in fact The Producer/Filmmaker. It is her project, and her name is on it. As a kid I knew what it was like to be bullied, and to be different. At one time I had my own prejudices on that subject. Over the past 6 years doing Star Trek Fan Films, I've met many people who are different. I thought back on my own experiences and came to the realization that I had been in the wrong. I fully embraced these people for who they are. I don't regret that. I was not about to tell someone "You can't be in your own film." or "You can't be yourself in your own film." That would have been horrible.
Production looks very good ... however... 1:56 hmm, so when somebody wants maintenance done, they call the Captain? [she's sitting in the captain's chair..close enough ]. When I need maintenance in my house, i do not call the COO of the company [unless all else has failed miserably for a long time and I'm willing to possibly get somebody fired].. just saying.
all the tech [lighting, sound, cam, etc] and the director's blocking looked very smooth, especially for a first time out. Dialog was also not bad [tricky in Star Trek] Hope to see more from this crew. Need to find out whats up w/this Gorn DNA business!
@@jv-lk7bc Thank you for that. Yes, calling the bridge seemed a bit out of the ordinary. But it was Julie's script, so I just supported her in telling her story.
A solid and relatively engaging effort. Kudos to the filmmaker with this being their first time. I have to admit I laughed pretty hard when security came into aux control with his phaser held in a semi side grip technique. Overall it was fun. The narrative could use some tinkering but it was fun plot, especially since Gorn are under utilized. It certainly left room open to explore their mindset as to how or why they might do this to a Starfleet officer. It's nice to see people still putting out original content with the actual spirit of Star Trek in mind rather than what we have currently on the live action side of the franchise. Well done to all involved.
Perhaps this was some kind of plot by the Gorn some kind of genetic experiment very well made to bad she forgot the memories of shore leave on starbase seventy five.
It wasn't a bad video. Not the best effort from Avalon, but a decent story. Congrats to the filmmaker......I hope they continue to work on their craft.
@@saleendriver Thank you for watching and supporting us. Often times there’s a learning curve for a first time artist. I was one once, so I felt it was important to help them out.
Wonderful film. It's so good it's hard to believe it's a first time effort. I really like how the ending leaves it open for more which I'm hoping one day maybe there will be. Congratulations on a great job.
excellent production values. amazing sets and CGI, and above all decent lighting! a solid ST fan effort. My only critique was that the commander's uniform seemed poorly fitted to that actress for the first half of the film; it was a bit distracting. In terms of story, it's nice to have a story with no pew-pew. It wasn't a combat story, as so many are. It did (intentionally or unintentionally) point out the actual horror of the transporter, which is that the person going into the beam is not the same person coming out. The Lt. Moore that was re-integrated at the end was not the person who underwent the Gorn transformation. That person was disintegrated, was gone, as evidenced by the line, "This Lt. Moore might not remember anything from that time. The pattern I used to restore her was from when she beamed down from shore leave." Philosophically, this demonstrated what I've always said about the transporter; it's a murder machine. For being a quiet story, it's quite deep in the consequences of ST technology. A superior effort, and thank you!
@joshuairwin2016 What were you worried about? The lady with the deep voice, or the Vulcan with a tattoo? Neither one really bothered me. After all, i remember the premiere of TNG, where one of the men wore a skant. That didn't bother me either. If a person is a true Trek Fan, they'll ignore little things and enjoy the show. This is a great episode. Now, i want to see more find out what happens next.
Nothing against this, it's pretty well done guys , but any word on when you'll get the Derek Mason story done ? the dude deserves his ship and happy ending........and it *did* say 2024...
Hi Andrew. It's next up on the list. We got word earlier this year that Neutral Zone Studios would have to leave its current location. At the time no one was sure what the future would hold or if the studio would survive. So we shifted our efforts to assisting the Studio in helping them finish filming several of their projects before the teardown began. We got this and 3 other films shot. Thankfully TNZ has found a new home in Sandusky, Ohio. But it will be a while before they are up and running. In the meantime, "The Once and Future Captain" is 95% shot and we have one last scene to do that will feature Tyler's Captain Mason and a very special guest star/character that everyone will know. We're working to align the guest's schedule with Tyler's. I actually spoke with him today, and it shouldn't be long.
@@louferrao2044 Your statement is inaccurate. I've allowed plenty of criticisms on my channel to stand. Making ugly statements like "Women should never be in command" or "Ugh! The sets, effects, music, and props are all there. It's a swing and a miss in terms of capturing the essence of ST though. Try less hard to be frame the characters in terms of 21st century Western cultural "norms", and tell an original story. I'll forgive the amateur acting and some of the ill-fitting wardrobe.
Wonderful!!!!
It's no fun when you're cold!
well, sometimes..
Thanks man! I appreciate the thoughtful comment. I laughed at that too during the editing process. But, hey he was having fun. LOL
@@saleendriver This is not our film. As the pinned comment indicates. We assisted a first time Filmmaker.
@@joshuairwin2016 my mistake. I didn’t read the comments
A bit stiff on the acting but not bad at all. Love the Vulcan tattoos
excellent production values. amazing sets and CGI, and above all decent lighting! a solid ST fan effort.
A murder the original & restore a clone wayback machine.
Hi Joseph. I'm grateful that you feel that way. Thank you for supporting us!
So does she get her shore leave, or does she have to go directly back to work?
Whichever it is, she will be closely monitored. She's not to be trusted.
Now that's funny!
Excellently well done! Thoroughly Enjoyable and Just Superb! Thank you and Good Luck on future Productions.
So, no criticism allowed. It's not very realistic if a group of thespians want to improve.
@@louferrao2044 It’s not that criticism isn’t allowed. Rude comments will be deleted. Please learn the difference.
@joshuairwin2016 I stand by my original statement. You can paint it any way you like, the outcome is the same. See the similarities.
That’s not what he said at all. Bigotry does not equate to criticism. As Kirk once said, keep your bigotry in your quarters.
@@louferrao2044 Your statement is inaccurate. I've allowed plenty of criticisms on my channel to stand. Making ugly statements like "Women should never be in command" or "Ugh! Terrible acting" aren't constructive or helpful to anyone. There's way to offer an opinion in a way that isn't bigoted or hurtful. It's my channel and I reserve the right to moderate it. Saying people have no desire to improve simply because they they don't want to put up with ugly insults is simply wrong.
@joshuairwin20 Well then, that comment you just made should be deleted, as it is rude and condescending: 'learn the difference'? Really?
is this pre kirk enterprise
Not sure.
would a vulcan have tats interesting.
Well, there's no canonical info on that. But I know the actress did. The Actors who appear in Star Trek Fan Films are just regular ol' people. Which is what the spirit of Fan Films is.
@@joshuairwin2016 ik iam just jokeing idc if an actor has tats or not.
Maybe the uniform should fit better.
I do have a PayPal or Venmo I could send you. Donations to help with better costumes would be most welcome.
Good work, only the old TOS soundtrack is not for me.
I like your other stuff but this one is not your best. I'm sorry but keep doing them bc your videos have been good. Live long and prosper.
I would like to see a Horror Star Trek film but that's just me
We helped a first-time filmmaker with their project. We're aware that there is a learning curve for them but wanted to be supportive. I appreciate the kind words about the other projects. We have more of our own films coming.
@joshuairwin2016 I hope I didn't come off as rude I still put a thumbs up for it
@@sWaMpY_GaToR Not at all. Thank you! We greatly appreciate you!
this is good Trek, the fans make better content than the studios have for some time
The sets, effects, music, and props are all there. It's a swing and a miss in terms of capturing the essence of ST though. Try less hard to be frame the characters in terms of 21st century Western cultural "norms", and tell an original story. I'll forgive the amateur acting and some of the ill-fitting wardrobe. I've seen much worse fan films.
Thank you, I do appreciate the kind words. I guess the point I keep trying to make is that there was no attempt to "frame" anything. 3 women decided they wanted to make a film, and asked me to help them. There was no deliberate attempt at social commentary. That's who that person is in real life. Since it was that person's film, no one's going to be like "Hey you can't be in your own movie". It was just 3 friends who wanted to play Star Trek.
Oh for crying out loud. 🙄 Smfh.
Putting a man in a woman's uniform is an awful thing to do.
