I am buying my first 2005 Prius. Original owner with a whopping 250K miles. But I am getting it for $3000 so why complain! This video was great in helping me to get to know the car. It's confusing with the different "packages" that are available, but I am sure I will become familiar with all that as time goes on. Thank you for posting this!
Cool to see that you have a 70s mustang. I have a 68 mustang that has been my daily driver, which I'm now realizing is no longer the most practical idea. Watching this video really made me consider investing in a prius while I finish restoring the mustang.
I Have a 2005 it's old I'm watching as many videos as I can cuz I know nothing about this car I'm trying to learn do you know anything about if you decide to sleep in your car how to protect the key fob from draining your battery
you can not lock the car if the key is left in the car. doesn't have to be in the ignition, i left the key in my jacket and got out and tried to lock it with the switch only it wouldn't lock, not until i took my jacket that had the key in it out of the car. pretty cool!!
febreeze works wonders. also, for the carpets and upholstry sprinkle some baking soda on them, wait 20 minutes then vaccum them. Follow with Febreeze and you should be good. The smell will fade with time and routine cleaning! :) Good luck!
This dude loves his prius. I have a 2007 which love and like to drive. Only problem is recently it started having electronic glitches and cost me a alot of money to get it up and running. Then the 12v battery died again and it is in a real stupid place to remove. Not the hybrid battery thank god. Also the most expensive 12v i have ever bought. Now it doesn't go into gear and the engine doesnt start. I think this may be a minor issue, but not sure yet. It has alot of miles on it and i plan on doubling that eventually.
@@worray i have a 2005 base model and it doesn't but you can get a cigarette lighter bluetooth adapter that transmits sound and phone calls through fm radio for $17 on amazon so cool little work around
Swe Kiwi It's smooth ride. The drawbacks are it's not the greatest in bad weather (I live in Minnesota), you need to constantly be on the wheel and sometimes I have a tough time seeing the screen.
Excellent demonstration. Would be grateful for advice on the possibility of connecting a gadget (such as OBD) to view the RPM while driving - on Prius 2008. Thank you.

Smart key drain your aux. battery...and noticed the hill and valley features of the buttons on the wheels, you can just feel it while driving at night.

I'm getting the 2007 Prius for my 18th birthday and this is my first car! I was just wondering how is the sound system and do all the cars come with a reverse camera?
Backup cameras weren’t standard equipment in vehicles until March 14th 2014 so these generation Prius did not have them. You can add an aftermarket one for around $100. The sound system is actually pretty good. You aren’t going to win competitions with it but it was more than enough when I had the car.
Very helpful, I just bought a 2007 for work ( regional sales) , and I assume the interior etc hasnt changed much. I didnt know about the key / FOB part nor about the upper storage.. I bought the car through my brother who went and dealt with the guy selling it. Thanks allot.. any accessories you recommend? I am going to do tint, floor mats, and after market stero...if I dont like it.
You know the Denso filter? you can just vacuum, soak/wash it with mild soap, let it dry and reuse it...mpg still the same. Of course it wasn't that dirty on mine...but why waste 40-50 dollars? that gas struts on the back, won't last long. I suggest you stockpile a pair before after-market supply run out & inflation. two winter tires as replacement would be good for winter. Noticed you only have to take off two? I said front, because it fwd...or one on driver back, one on pass front.
since there is a actual key inside the fob in case the battery dies i believe thats what you would press to get it to start, but i'm not 100% sure i don't even own one yet.
They KEY button is used to turn off the proximity sensor (SKS aka smart key system) to save battery power for times when one will not operate the vehicle for an extended period of time (over a week). The SET button is used to reset the TPMS aka tire pressure monitor system. Bonus acronym; MFD = multi-function display
QUESTION! We just got this exact same car and when it switches from gas to electric power it doesn't switch back to gas right away when the power is low. It's so annoying especially when it happens on the freeway and busy streets because the car slows down about 10 miles. Is there a way to change electric to gas manually or are we having a bigger issue???
+Aleh Ramm If its taking more time to power the battery with gas it sounds like your batteries about to die. Or just maybe its a bad battery? Not sure I'd take it into Toyota and have them look at it, or if you don't have warranty like me, you can take it to a mechanic shop that deals with imports that specialize in prius :D
Yes, but only if the engine is hot first. So say if you are waiting to pick someone up in the the winter, you can still have heat for a while. The engine will eventually cycle on and off. You can't heat up the car before you come out of the house in the winter.
The Prius has bluetooth but you can only receive and make calls via bluetooth. You cannot play music via bluetooth, you're going to have to buy a bluetooth car adapter.

"B" is like a low gear in normal vehicles. When you go down hills in normal vehicles you shift to 2, 1 or L for low gears. In the Prius, you shift to "B".
I'm surprised by this video. Is this the 2nd generation Prius or not? Because if its is, well i got one too. However, i stick the fob into an opening near thE steering wheel in order to start my car. I mean i thought the proximity sensor applies to the 3rd generation and the 2nd generation has to have the fob stuck in its place to start it. Its right of the steering wheel in our Right Hand Drive Prius (of course i'm from one of those countries that drive on the left in Right Hand DrIve Vehicles like in the UK, Aussie, NZ.) here in Fiji.. the difference with the CVT is that you cant do absolutely nothing to adjust the rpm. no matter how hard you press the gas pedal, it will go to a certain rpm and just accelerate. now, some CVT offer a range of preselected "gears" (or more correct, ratios) that the driver can change through paddles behind the wheel. besides, i am sure this was a marketing thing from toyota. eliminating an instrument that reminds us of gasoline and "old" engines, and pushing the electric-tech portion of the car by utilising a huge screen
For what it's worth I've had a 2006 Prius since fall of that year. The "look" is because the car is designed to be aerodynamic, why it only comes in a hatchback... more on that later. Realistically you can expect to get between 45-50 MPH IF you have a light foot in warmer months. In winter the MPG for me drops to about 39 MPH which still beats most cars. City driving actually gets better MPH than highway because duh... the electric motor is used more. Its no sports car, but pick-up, handling is pretty good except on very windy days which can be annoying. What really bugs me about my Prius is three times the latch on the hatchback failed, twice draining the battery because even though it appears closed it might be ajar but you can't tell looking at it from the outside. Many web posts on this from many angry owners. Then there is the issue of it not opening when locked and oh, no manual way to open the back hatch from inside except to push down the back seats and crawl around fumbling for the tiny little unmarked release handle. If that isn't bad enough newer models have some rubber part over this same lock that can melt if car is left out in really hot weather for hours again preventing from getting in the damn truck. Seems to be a serious design flaw Toyota has known about for at least 8 years and still hasn't fixed. Oh, on top of all that 5 recalls for various issues from the infamous run a-way acceleration blamed on floor mats, to steering issues, to... well you get the idea. Do I like my Prius? Well just because of the great MPG mostly. Its not what you'd call a "looker" only seats four, the interior finish is at best average. Would I buy another one? Hell no! If you can't even get in your own car's truck, one main reason to have a hatchback in the first place, this issue is a deal breaker at least for me.

Hi, We got a problem with our toyota prius. We tried the ' B ' gear( like the R and D and N Gear). We cant turn it off. The car makes funny noises when we drive it. Can you help me? Please?
10:42 Bear with me. The engine makes 76bhp, the motor makes 67bhp, total is 110bhp... Imagine when the engine is on 70% (53bhp) of the power moves the wheels, the other 30% (22.8bhp) drives the generator which will charge the battery if needed, if not it will power the drive motor. In addition, the battery can supply 28bhp. So under full acceleration, the engine sends 53.2bhp, the motor makes 50.8 from the engine and battery. Together making 104bhp, while Toyota claims 110bhp? It's weird, man.

Cosmo dus it's to help you brake quicker if you need to stop short

now, some CVT offer a range of preselected "gears" (or more correct, ratios) that the driver can change through paddles behind the wheel.

In addition, the battery can supply 28bhp. So under full acceleration, the engine sends 53.2bhp, the motor makes 50.8 from the engine and battery. Together making 104bhp, while Toyota claims 110bhp? It's weird, man.
