- Installing an upgraded Android head unit 9” screen on my Mom’s 2006 1st generation Toyota Prius. The gen 2 Prius interior is outdated, so we installed this aftermarket double din car radio interior mod to add wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for improved functionality and navigation. This works for base speakers and upgraded JBL speakers as well, just let the seller know which one you have so they send the correct harness. Thanks for watching!

Nice modern interior setup on that older Prius. Good work 👍
Thanks! Highly recommend for any car to have CarPlay and rear view camera. Worth it 😊
@@Sals_GaragePlease can you be so kind to share the link to buying this article, I can't seem to find the one link you said is on the description. I have same car model toyota prius 2006.
Thanks in advance
@@adhekiwigrekevwe6452 sorry I don’t have another link
Such a good new modern look!😍😍
Thank you wifey! 😊
What a worthy upgrade!
I'm gonna try this but with a very much cheaper Temu version 9" screen. Gonna measure the old units' insert tabs and frame to make a 3d modeled frame. And pop it in, this should be interesting lol.
@@HankHill1 nice! Good luck 👍
Nice video. In the version I got, there is a resistor and I wired it between 9 and 10. This step could make the climate control work. There is one little drawback I found when using Carplay, which is the volume of navigation is a bit small compared with music. I'm still trying to figure out if the navigation volume could be adjusted seperately
Pretty sure there is a separate adjustment for that, thanks for sharing your experience 🙏
I bought the android screen but with the wrong wiring and its not easy to find just the wiring for the jbl version
@@mussanom788 try asking the seller if they have any information on how to source one
This looks good! Does the standard mic for calling still work or does it use the mic on the new radio?
It uses a new mic for calls, but I think there is a way to use the old one as well.
Great!! Can you please provide details for the screen used in this video? Unfortunately the Amazon link doesn’t work. Thanks
Hi! The link still works on my end. What details are you looking for?
Thanks for replying. What’s the brand as the link takes me to the Amazon search options? I’ve been looking for a reliable CarPlay for my prius for a while; yours one seems to be the best one I have seen.

Hola, una pregunta: porque no sustituir la pantalla orinal que trae el coche, donde están las funciones de originales
@@yosermartinezhernandez2588 no espaniol
@@Sals_GarageYou can just use google translate to see what he is asking.
@yosermartinezhernandez2588 Because that is a dedicated screen for the hybrid system and not for audio controls.
Hi Sal's Garage i like you video I am using Toyota Prius 2005 . which state your from?
@@VignanDundangi thanks, California
So all the functions like auto parking and the speaker bass settings and stuff will still work as normal right? In the upper screen or the lower one?
Please do a video about this and if auto parking function and others still work 🙏🏻
Yes they do, will try when I have the time.
@@Sals_Garage yes please. Thank you ☺️

Did you actually use the plugs (red, yellow blue etc) or did you skip that?
I did not, some plugs stay unplugged depending on your speaker models.
The link to this you provided shows something diffferent. Not sure if its been upgraded since you made this video, but I ordered it and the unit actually has volume controls etc on the left side now. Looks like the seller also added the description that it does not work with sound systems with more than 6 speakers (the JBL audio system has 9: 2 front tweeters, 2 rear tweeters, 1 in each door, and one center speakers). Any idea if maybe that might be false? Also, were you able to configure the can bus to connect the rear-view camera?
You may be right, the seller should be able to supply the correct harness according to your audio setup. I did not use the supplied rear view camera since the stock one already worked fine.
@@Sals_Garage Thanks, it looks like you have the JBL audio system as well (9 speakers)? The supplier said with the JBL 9 speaker system, the rear 4 speakers (rear door door + tweeter) will not work. Did you notice that with your install? Or did all 9 speakers work?
@@IEsorry all speakers worked, I just told them I had JBL setup. You might have to ask them if they can recommend a different product that can work
@@Sals_Garage great. Thank you so much for the replies!
@@IEsorry anytime! And good luck 👍
I noticed when getting mines (I got the EKIY T900) that the radio didn't come with instructions. Did yours come with instructions or did you have to wing it?
It came with instructions but the wording wasn’t the best.
Please can you be so kind to share the link to buying this article, I can't seem to find the one link you said is on the description.
Thanks in advance

Do all the steering wheel buttons still work?
@@pte-entertainment yes 👍
Did you have to do any sort of wiring/splicing or does it come with all the prepared harnesses?
Plug and play, I didn’t need to splice any wires since the harness is included.
Does the reserve camera still work on the main screen?
Yes it does
Nice! Im thinking of getting one for mine. Is the top screen still usable for a/c?
Top screen for AC controls isn’t working on ours anymore, but we can still control it from the steering wheel.
You gotta use a transitor to make the top screen usable for controls.
@@franzst.pierre4676 thanks for the tip!
@@franzst.pierre4676is there a video on how to do this or instructions? Can’t figure out where to put the transistor. Radio doesn’t come with good instructions

Does the climate control works after setting this up?
@@user-jb4wp7bz9o yes 👍
how did you do that the former owner installed a tablet similar to yours, only the tablet on top of the car, which shows information about the climate, consumption, battery charge, no longer works. what should it be?
@@florinhash4843 good question, this isn’t my Prius so hopefully someone else can help you. Good luck 👍
hello, i don't find where i can buy this android unit. do you have a link or a reference ?
i found it...not available for France delivery (or too expensive) :-(
So sorry, i will keep looking and share a new link with you if I can find.
Can you still control the a/c using the steering wheel?
@@NorrieFalgoust yes 👍
@@Sals_Garage re: AC controls on the steering wheel, you cannot switch between vent modes nor intensity of airflow, correct? If you can, lmk - I have not been able to figure that out.
@@skldaddy yes I believe so
What about the HVAC system? Did you put the resistor in?
I have not but I hear that it works well for the AC controls function on screen
@@Sals_Garage Okay thanks for the reply as I was just wondering if the MFD still worked without the resistor
@@jimborambo5866 pretty sure you’ll need it
@@Sals_Garage yeah I'm planning to install it
@@jimborambo5866where does the resistor go to allow AC controls on the MFD? Can’t figure it out and instructions are bad that came with radio
Can you watch youtube while driving?
Yea, with the app or through the browser. 👍
