Don’t really know how to say this but Iv been fishing on and off for 45 years (sea game course carp and everything in between).Your vids are brilliant you love every fish catch no matter what make or size. You are also a great naturalist and conservationists for the sport, keep it up please
Sea angler of many many years here, on the verge of giving up and just needed the enthusiasm back - yours is infectious, your videos have helped bigtime - cheers!
Arriving Arriving - That is fantastic to hear. I am so glad that I have been able to help in any way to you rediscovering your passion for fishing.😊 I’m just sharing what I love doing. 😀👍🏻🎣🐟
This is the best of TH-cam. Good knowledge, great on camera. I predict big subs on this channel. Terrestrial TV Is dead, keep up the good work love it!
phasetwentyeight - Thankyou very much. I’m glad you have found the content good viewing. You are right, terrestrial TV is poor at best most nights. All the best and tight lines. 😊👍🏻🎣🐟
I used to be TA daft, ive subbed to you and have never been disappointed.its better than good, very helpful straight to the point punchy tips that keep on coming.
All during a pandemic and whilst my wife and I have full time jobs and 2 children at school. Everyone gets 24 hours in a day. Positivity and passion. 😊💙
Great feel good video John. Live prawns look like a killer bait and one I've neglected. Next time I get to the coast I'm going to leave a bit earlier and take a shrimping net. This video has really sparked my enthusiasm, can't wait until Spring. 😊 Thanks Pal.
Moody fish - Glad you found it helpful mate. They really are great bait. I use them in another video from the boat. “Amazing day at sea” I think it is 👍🏻 Everything likes eating prawns 😉🦐
leonard whelehan - I told you they are a great bait. Especially when fished like I showed. 👍🏻 I’ve had over 25 different UK species on them in the past. 🎣😀
Really enjoyed watching that. I've only recently got into my lure fishing for bass, but what can be better than watching a float, so I'm gonna give this method a go.
Yeh Im just watching all your videos as Im on nightshift this weekend. Youre up early? fishing? just watching your conger one on the scratching rig. Massive Eel
Dan Foley - Thanks mate I hope it does. 👍🏻 Just tried to keep it simple. People get all wrapped up in making things complicated and expensive. Things don’t need to be that way.
Some real cool tips there John as to how to catch Prawn. I’ve attempted this before but the springy bait pot let in all comers. I will use your ideas as to reduce the mouth openings to accept smaller crabs or prawn. Some plastic and stitching need to be done ASAP. Thanks for the tips as live bait fishing is clearly the way forward for bass. Your a top thinker👏🏽👏🏽
In Florida we often snip the tail of the shrimp so they can’t escape as well. And then hook it at the back, with a pretty large hook. The shrimps can be way bigger though, regularly are sold by the dozen in bait shops and a dozen would guarantee plenty of snappers
- I hope this has been useful to you then. Both methods in this video work well for different style of fishing. And yet you have seen both catch fish. :D Take care.
What i love about the sea is you never know for sure what is going to turn up next, great videos fella, I have seen a few you have made and i think you could do with a couple of those clip on bells for your rod tip :)
Another excellent video with plenty of good advice. The only thing different that I'd like to see is to focus on the float sometimes so that we can see the bite.
Güray Eker - Thankyou very much. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I have used all manner of small fish as livebaits for cod and bass in the past. When fishing for a BIG fish, livebaits are always a very good choice. The prawns pick up more fish, but livebait fish tend to pick up the better ones. 🎣👍🏻
Just found you channel and I'm enjoying it,very informative, thanks as I'm new to sea fishing, could you tell me what size round hooks you where using in this video please
I recognise you John, im also from cornwall. Truro to be exact. Id love to join you one day. Side note!! I havent been fishing before but want to start
Loved this, John. What sort of depth are you fishing in relation to the bottom when floating? I LOVE float fishing, the whole staring at the float, then BANG, down she goes. Are you close to the bottom, mid-water? The live prawn method is superb. Your knowledge is simply astounding, and your willingness to share the hours, days, weeks, months, years you've spent honing your talent is commendable. Cannot wait to get back down to Cornwall in July/August. Fresh seafood is easily my favourite food, and, if I've actually caught it, it just tastes so much the better. 😁
Hi John great vids ,I'm going to try my hand at chesil in a few weeks time, just say I hook a conger what's the best way to handle them ,with care I know ,. I've only caught one on a boat .and have you any vids on how to bait up different types of bait ,thanks keep the vids coming.
- I show many baits and baiting techniques throughout the videos William. If you do hook a conger try gently pulling it ashore with the trace. Then hold it like I show in the conger videos. 😊
Great video as always thanks, love seeing your enthusiasm and great tips. Please can you tell me how you keep the prawns alive until you go fishing with them? Is it just in a bucket with sea water or do they need one of those aeration things? Many thanks
Hiya John, watching this video....again! Question, with your non sliding float setup you still allow a few inches of play between the float stops, is this for a particular reason?
What size circle hooks are you using. I'm off to Looe in Cornwall on the 10th your videos are so enjoyable and have given me so many ideas. Thank you and please keep making them. Rob
exceptional videos my man. great to see a northerner catching something in Kernow. More than can be said for my annual summer pilgrimage down there. Do you run boat trips or tours? If not why not 😁
- Thanks mate, I don't run boat trips on my boat as I aren't coded. But I will be working with a local charter skipper running trips on his boat. ;) Give us a PM on the fish locker fb page and Ill give you the long and the short of it ;)
Thanks, I've just subscribed. I made myself a big shrimp net during lockdown , just waiting for the Welsh government to let us out now. What size circle hooks are you using?
Hiya John, when handling the rays are you in any danger of being stung? If so is there anything you can do to avoid it? Was stung in Straya and can't say it was the most enjoyable experience! Bloody love the vids also!
Pigeon Corner In Uk - I can’t remember exactly off the top of my head. Possibly 1/0-2/0. I’ll have a look in my tackle box tomoro and let you know. 😉👍🏻🎣
carpykyle - I think it’s a Shakespear salt spin 3 piece rod. I can’t remember the casting weight of it but I won it in a flounder comp about 6-7 years ago. So they probably don’t even make them any more.lol The reel is just the standard Abu cardinal 174swi I use in most of my vids. Cheap and reliable. 👍🏻
The Fish Locker cheers for that... I quite often put my nets out and catch prawn when I’m down at my caravan but I’m yet to fish with them. Usually eat them... I’ve heard the Anglesey bass love them so I’ll be giving it a go this season 👍
John, have you watched your video t with the added subtitles? This fairly new feature on TH-cam is not only off-putting by blanking the screen but 90% of the time it doesn't make sense. I'm quickly going off TH-cam.

- Thank you Ryan, what else can I say other than it is my passion. I love everything about it and love being able to share it with people. :)
I agree - a very knowledgeable and conservation minded bloke. Easy to understand and very capable 😊😊😊
Really refreshing to watch somebody enjoying a belter of a session, cheers.
BUSHCRAFT AND FISHING WITH THE PIKEY - Thanks mate, what can I say? I LOVE my fishing. 😉🎣🐟💙

- If you can get them they are deadly!!! There isn't much that would turn down a nice live prawn!! ;)
Great session the bass were loving those prawns ,nice ray too
Apart from another brilliant video, nice too see you wearing "samba's", my choice of trainer's for nigh on 50 years, timeless.
- Good style is ageless mate ;)
enjoyed that very informative John regards Tel G
Glad you enjoyed it bud.
I’m definitely going to try this as well. Great video and information. Keep up the good work 👍🏼
Moody fish - Glad you found it helpful mate. They really are great bait. I use them in another video from the boat. “Amazing day at sea” I think it is 👍🏻 Everything likes eating prawns 😉🦐
what a session on the prawns fair play...
leonard whelehan - I told you they are a great bait. Especially when fished like I showed. 👍🏻 I’ve had over 25 different UK species on them in the past. 🎣😀
we fished under a bridge as soon as the prawn drifted into the shadow of the bridge bang every time..
Great video john
Thanks 👍

Dan Smith - That’s great mate, it’s definitely worth a try. Did you see the vid on how to catch your own live prawns? Let me know how you get on 👍🏻🎣

- That is an interesting concept. The prawns here are rarely bigger than your thumb.
Great video buddy
Thank you Peter.
Nice to learn a new method of how to put the prawn in the hook. .
I always put the prawn by the back of the head and I don't get too lucky 😅😅😅
- I hope this has been useful to you then. Both methods in this video work well for different style of fishing. And yet you have seen both catch fish. :D Take care.
What i love about the sea is you never know for sure what is going to turn up next, great videos fella, I have seen a few you have made and i think you could do with a couple of those clip on bells for your rod tip :)
- The clip on bells don't register drop back bites and fly off when you are casting. Been there, tried it. Haha. 😊
Enjoyed that!
- I’m glad you found it useful, thankyou for the support. 👍🏻🎣
living the dream john
Peter Lee Catchpole - That’s what it’s all about mate. If you’re not having fun you’re not doing it right. 😉🎣
Great video. Thank you 🙏
I enjoyed watching that. I have never fished with live prawns before, but will definitely give it a go. Thanks for uploading mate. I have subbed too.
Sussex Seagull - Awesome. Thanks for the positive feedback. Check out the prawn pot video for my cheap homemade prawn traps and give it a crack. 🎣👍🏻
Turn the subtitles on its hilarious 😆....enjoy your vids a lot, great knowledge
Another excellent video with plenty of good advice. The only thing different that I'd like to see is to focus on the float sometimes so that we can see the bite.
- Sadly Tony the cameras we have are not good enough to zoom in on the float.
@@TheFishLocker Thanks for explaining this to me. I often wondered why we never saw it.
Tony Camplin - If we get to the stage where we have cameras capable of it we will definitely show it. 😊👍🏻
Good job man!! We use the small fish that you catched as a live bait and get really good size sea bass 👍

Thanks John I have a bit more confidence using a float at sea, now all I need is to catch one of those pesky wet things that aint weed. 🤣🤣😂🤣
Good luck
nothing better than using a popping cork and live prawn
I agree
I recognise you John, im also from cornwall. Truro to be exact. Id love to join you one day. Side note!! I havent been fishing before but want to start

Thanks.
The video on homemade prawn traps is on our second channel. The fishlocker workshop. 😉👍🏻

An aerator is best. If it’s a very hot day then an iceblock in there with them will help.
@@TheFishLocker many thanks for your quick reply. Looking forward to your next video, tight lines! 🎣🎣🎣
Thos big tackle boxes are amazing I got on with pouches in the sides and a back strap
Wicked. I've never had one with the backpack extras. 😊
@@TheFishLocker I sent a photo on Instagram dm
Great video John, thanks for sharing. What sort of setup would you recommend for fishing this way? Cheers
Hiya John, watching this video....again!
Question, with your non sliding float setup you still allow a few inches of play between the float stops, is this for a particular reason?
- Not only is it easier to tie, but it allows a little bit of movement to prevent line tangles during flight.
What the best way to live bait sand eel do you hook them through lip how do you put them on for casting many thanks john
- From the shore. Best to go through the jaws and cast gently.
What size circle hooks are you using. I'm off to Looe in Cornwall on the 10th your videos are so enjoyable and have given me so many ideas.
Thank you and please keep making them.
Rob
- Usually with live prawn I use a 2/0-4/0

Currently in penzance mate just picked up a float rod where abouts do you fish to
your channel is awesome. do you fish for a living too? your fishing addicted i love it :) 19.15 that cute little fish took a whole prawn lol
- I used to be a professional fisherman. Now we just fish for the pleasure. 😊
Big question I have. This seems elaborate, cant we just use a simple hook and bait?
Is it allowed for me to fish in the harbour at high-tide in Aberaeron harbour in Ceredigion west Wales?.
- I don't know mate, you will need to ask your harbour commission.
I have just seen a video about pumping for Lug on wet beaches. Do you know anything about this and do you have any feelings about it? Thanks
Why would I have feelings about that?
Thanks, I've just subscribed. I made myself a big shrimp net during lockdown , just waiting for the Welsh government to let us out now. What size circle hooks are you using?
- Awesome, welcome to our channel. Good luck with the prawns. I think the are 3/0 - 4/0
what size hooks were you using for prawn?
Size 2 or 3/0
@@TheFishLocker thanks John
Did you learn your bubble float methods from fishing Scaling Dam as a youth??
- Haha. No mate. But I know what you mean.
Hiya John, when handling the rays are you in any danger of being stung? If so is there anything you can do to avoid it? Was stung in Straya and can't say it was the most enjoyable experience! Bloody love the vids also!
- Most of the rays in the UK don't actually have a "stinger" barb in there tail. Just spines on them. Glad you're enjoying the videos mate. 😊
I love sea 🎣 to fishing
- I also love sea fishing. :)
Which brand circle hook did you use mate?
- Cox and rawle mutsu circles
The Fish Locker nice one mate

The Fish Locker I know your fishing in Cornwall but would be really nice if you could tell me where
What rod and reel you using with that float rig and circle hook?
carpykyle - I think it’s a Shakespear salt spin 3 piece rod. I can’t remember the casting weight of it but I won it in a flounder comp about 6-7 years ago. Also what size hook do you recommend?
carpykyle - Loads of fish love them. Wrasse and bass especially 👍🏻🎣
carpykyle - match the hook to the bait. But a 1/0-3/0 is fine for smaller fish and baits. I use 6/0’s when using joey mackerel livebait for bass.
The best fish for me and so tasty 👌😘
- Wonderful aren't they. 😊
Caught my first bass today
Mikey's Reviews - Fantastic mate. Tell me about it? Where, how? What was it like? 👍🏻🎣
The Fish Locker caught it on a piece of ragworm in Le penzé estuary in Brittany, France.
The Fish Locker it was only a small one though.
Mikey's Reviews - That absolutely doesn’t matter. They’re great looking guys big or small. 👍🏻🎣
Float stops are a lot better than elastics
And what happens when you want to set it at 40ft? You will often find that I do things a certain way for a reason. 👍🏻
John, have you watched your video t with the added subtitles?

I'm quickly going off TH-cam.
John I've just found out that subtitles can be turned off.
BTW in these days and times your videos are a welcome change.
- Haha. Yeah Malcolm the subtitles are autogenerated and don't understand proper English.
Your videos keep be from going ape shit whenever weather is too nautical to go fishing
I truly hope that the videos help provide a positive distraction for people during the stressful times. 😊
Are you hiding from the police?
