After multiple failed phone and interviews in the last 3 months I decided to switch it up and really hone in on some interview skills from professionals instead of winging it and let me tell you just after watching this video twice and then some of your other interview tips I was able to get 2 Job offers of over 60k in just week! A manager asked me the following question in an jobinterview.
    1. If I told you to do something in a specific way, would you be the person that would tell me that it's better to do it in a different way.
    2. If you saw I've made a mistake, and we are in a team meeting, would you point it out in front of everyone or rather tell me in person.
    What would be the best answer to give sir?

    • @TheFinancialController
      @TheFinancialController  3 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      Good questions,
      1. Yes, I would be. If I truly believe it can be done better, I will make sure to let you know.
      2. Depends. If I found it absolutely necessary for the purpose of the meeting, I will raise the point. But if if can be corrected in private afterwards, that would be my approach.

    Really sad that I had to enroll in ERP type courses at a community college to gain beg-advanced skills in Quickbooks and Excel. I'm always stunned that university professors do not require a full accounting cycle simulation to be learned using these programs to help prepare for entry level positions. Especially since uni costs are so high, we'd cover an extensive amount of material to prepare students for jobs.

    This is good information.
    I mentioned in a previous thread but my goal right now is to continue studying accounting at Ensign College in Salt Lake until I receive my Bachelors. Their plan is very much on track to help pass the CMA exams which is something I want to accomplish. After that, I plan to apply at Southern Utah University and achieve an MAcc. After all that, I'd prefer to start in private accounting in the A/R department and work on my 5 year / 10 year plan... which may include getting a CPA, and deciding what route I'd use to get to a Controller position and possibly a CFO.

    Thanks for making this Video!!! After so many interviews I have done -- I never got an offer back. I followed ALL of your tips and the interviewer said I sound "Intelligent" and that I was a "great candidate" and that she has "no idea what I was talking about" hahaha. She said she "will have the financial controller interview me further" lol. I mentioned financial statements and other records as well. I also explained stuff my way that way it was easier for me to follow through. I integrated(mixed in) my own work history to support the Qualities on the job description. The interviewer reduced the amount of questions because I have answered the first ones very well. I have a Bachelor Degree in Mathematics - studied accounting as an undergraduate. - Have no work experience.
    Excellent tips -- straight to the point!!

    What do you think I could do in my situation to get a job? I got my CPA license 15 years ago whike working in a small accounting firm for two years. For the last 15 years I have been a stay at home mom, and I now have 5 kids, including some very young ones. I recently renewed my expired CPA license and I would like to work again, but it would have to be part-time from home. Also, I live overseas. I have worked hard to renue my license, but without any experience these last number if years, I am not sure what to do. I don't mind starting at entry level, and I do learn fast. Is there any hope for me? What would you suggest?

      I would think your CPA will help you land a remote job, you just need to keep applying. Apply to “remote only” jobs. Create a Slideshare presentation on a topic in accounting and add it to your resume and LinkedIn profile. The slide idea is how I got the attention of a CFO once early on in my career. Put your mind to it and you will do it. I know it’s hard with 5 kiddos but you are doing it for them.

    This is maybe a dumb question but are candidates supposed to have such long answer ? Ofc it should not be like a one sentence or two but I find your answer quite long, correct me if I'm wrong, ty.

      You should answer in a short format and still be good if your hit on the key words. It’s just my style of taking but all styles are ok so long that you sell yourself well

    Does someone has to make presentations as an accountant? I’m such an introvert that presentations give me anxiety. I’d rather just sit an in office and work all day long.

      Only when you get to higher positions like controller and CFO, but by then your anxiety will have disappeared
