Wow, I just found your video and it's super informative. I've been desperately trying to find an internship, seeing that I'll be graduating with 150 credits in BS Accounting this December. There's really close to no chance for an international student like me to be hired in the field as the firms don't want to deal with all the hassle. And things get worse after the pandemic! I now wonder if I should continue to pursue CPA license or try my luck in Canada... Wish me luck!
Wow! I was once an accounts payable specialist for more than 2 years in a real estate company using SAP software, doing the same from the job description that you mentioned here. What's the best things should I need to do in order for me to gain extensive knowledge to get higher position than this? Thank you so much. The answers from this topic was very concise and straight to the point. Very helpful. I hope I can find this job as work from home, I hope you can give me website where I can apply. Thank you.
What does it mean when it’s your 2nd week at work and you’ve been kind of nervous because you’re new to the job but you ask one of your trainers and she says your doing great and she asks “how long have you been here, since last week?” “I reply “yes since last week” and she says “yeah you’re doing really good”. But she has given more work to the one that has been there for 7 months and the guy who’s been there for 1 month, and not me…. Does that mean she doesn’t think I’m ready for that amount of work? I work for the city as an accounting clerk. ….. am I just overthinking it? I was working really fast and balancing with my money while the others were kind of messing up with their counting and then all of a sudden yesterday and today they started working faster than usual…… any thoughts? I'm so nervous because I'm about to graduate but I love my part-time job, I work at Answers in Genesis and am so nervous about changing from that. I'm comfortable basing my identity on being a student. I was not expecting to feel like this because I've been working so hard towards this.
I don't see myself staying at a Big 4, but it's the standard path.. I want to get my CPA license but I'm hoping to get into forensic accounting. I've got some connections in that space, but do you think it's safer to do b4 audit for 2-3 years and then get myself into forensic accounting? The other path I was looking at is going the family office route. I also have a great contact that can mentor me and coach me through this, but that job seems very meaningless.

What are some of the entry level jobs that are available for someone with CMA exams passed and an accounting degree but no experience. I should add, that I am not really interested in auditing and taxation. When at university I did not enjoy taxation neither auditing, but I do really like the management accounting topics. Thanks.

I was always interested in becoming an Accountant. When I came from Pakistan to Chicago as an international student to study accounting , I had no idea that accountants should get 150 credit hours to become CPA eligible. Hence, I enrolled in a masters program in finance which will get me up to 150 credit hours. The reason why I’m doing masters in finance is because my university’s master in finance is STEM, which is generally more preferred for more jobs. Hence I hope to get a good job after I graduate in May 2023. My problem is, I cannot work off campus so I do not essentially have accounting related work experience. All I have is administrative experience from my on campus jobs. What I’m not sure about, Is what kind of jobs I should apply for while having no actual accounting work experience but good academic record in Accounting undergrad and an expected finance masters degree.

Depends on your goal. Say it’s a controller at some point. Grinding it for 2-3 years at big4 or regional firm gets you there sooner (but low work life balance) . But you can also get there with a smaller public cpa firm with better work life balance, but takes you a bit longer to get to target role

Hello, sir! This was extremely freaking helpful! I appreciate all this information on jobs that I should be targeting once I graduate!
Hello,
I just recently graduate from Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a 3.729 GPA. I’m having a lot of problem getting my first entry level job. Due to the pandemic, I didn’t had a chance to do an internship and this really affecting me because employers are looking for experience. Do you have any tip that will help me?

I don't take any person that works in accounting seriously when they fail to type a dollar amount correctly. I suggest that you brush up on the little things and communicate in a legible manor. That said I hope your career is taking off!
The main issue for uni students is to forget concepts learned through out the 4-years which cause every students to doubt their accounting abilities whether they could do any good in job.
Could you please give me any advice regarding this?

Like I’m not sure if I’m being useful or resourceful
Thank you for another awesome video. This has cleared up a lot of miss understanding of what is expected of an entry level analyst. How long would you suggest a person stay on each level in the private sector? For example a year in Billing then move to AP or should we spend more time in these areas? I personally have done two years in the hotel industry but now im finding it difficult to move to a new job. Also does certain industry experiences limit a person when you are starting out ? Thank you again for your videos :)

This was a very informative video. I have one question. I am going to study for the CMA certification now, and I already have a bachelors in accounting, but I do not have any experience in the field yet. My question is, what jobs or positions would I be applying for once I finish pass both CMA exams. What are some of the entry level jobs that are available for someone with CMA exams passed and an accounting degree but no experience. I should add, that I am not really interested in auditing and taxation. When at university I did not enjoy taxation neither auditing, but I do really like the management accounting topics. Thanks.
I fell in love with Managerial Accounting, myself. I want to focus on passing the CMA as well. Everyone is focused on CPA or entry level jobs for that career path that I am a bit lost. Even my Accounting professors are CPA focused. If you aren't going for a CPA or Big 4...something is wrong with you...is the attitude I get from peers and professors.
Thank you for this video!! Are there any accounting positions you can get with an associates? Still in college earning my bachelors.
Yes a junior accountant
I live in Australia and here in the job descriptions under junior accounting roles most of the time it says " you are a CPA or in process of completing it "
" minimum 2 years of experience" and sometimes it even says "graduates with no experience are not considered "

so I just gave up applying to any of the junior roles because those who review them have some wild ideas about this role

Thanks for this input!
Great video! I’m looking to get my masters in accounting with a non-accounting undergrad background. I know you’ve said public is the best place to start, what kind of role is best for life/work balance? I know it’ll vary by the firm, but is it generally better at larger or smaller sized public firms? I know big 4 is bad for work/life balance.
Depends on your goal. Say it’s a controller at some point. Grinding it for 2-3 years at big4 or regional firm gets you there sooner (but low work life balance) . But you can also get there with a smaller public cpa firm with better work life balance, but takes you a bit longer to get to target role

My 4 yr college degree was in Business Management and I'm currently working as an Accounts Payable Accountant and General Ledger Accountant, with multifaceted experience in Operational Accounting from AR to AP to GL for over 10 years.
