  • Today we check out Simtag's Black Edition Hydraulic Sim Racing Pedals. These pedals utilise real life race car parts including Tilton 600 series pedals and Wilwood Master and slave cylinders and provide a very realistic pedal feel which allowed me to achieve faster and more consistent lap times.

      A couple of years ago I was at my "local" autosport store getting a couple of steering wheels, gloves, boots and a seat. Had my old man with me who has been involved in motorsports for 60+ years and I pointed out these IIRC pedals and tried to to explain that given enough time Sim Racers will be running these in their Rigs. His stumbling block was a simple age and experience in building and heavily modifying race cars was "why would anyone use these as a toy. " I'm still trying to get him into my rig every time he visits but he just nopes out, looks at it shakes his head and changes the subject.

    Simtag has new 2 and 3 pedal sets available for pre-order. Can't wait to see your review as these use Simtag's system. Side note: Tilton has a CNC'd pedal linkage kit for $155 US. Should only take a small amount of work to "upgrade" to this set-up, but worth it in my book to have some more real race car parts, and will definitely be doing this to mine. Additionally it looks like one could upgrade the actual pedals to the Tilton 800 or 900 series fairly easily.

    I'd like a proper comparisson between these, the RealGear, Racewerk, OBP, Heusink-Ultimates... all of the more expensive side of the hobby.
    All of you established content-creator guys do some really nice, proper reviews of a single product these days, but being not afraid to compare them is what some of us would like to see!
    I know a lot is about personal preference, but a truthful comparisson, especially with the downsides of each and the relative-price to the performance should highlight some clear winners.

    It's interesting hearing you talk about different clutches and how you don't feel that having that "rollover" feeling like what you'd get on the Heusinkvelds isn't all that necessary as you stab at it. It made me reflect on the fact that my clutch in my irl car doesn't have any feeling like that at all; it's very linear. I don't do heal and toe and I certainly don't stab at my clutch, so that's given me more time to think and analyze. Very interesting.

    I had the same leaking problem with Wilwood slave cylinder. I found a solution. I dissasembled slave cylinder, took that metal centre rod and polished. I used 1000, 1500 and 2500 grid sandpaper with water, and after that, I polished it ( cheap polishing paste). After that I dont't have any leaking form slave cylinder.

    • @jarzombek007
      @jarzombek007 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@boostedmedia No problem :) I hope that I wrote it quite clearly because my English is not very good :) The whole problem with this leaky slave cylinder is that the central bar is machine finished and is rough. The only seal is a small, rubber O-ring in which the rod slides. The brake fluid is trapped in the unevenness on the bar and the O-ring is unable to remove all the fluid from the bar. The polishing of the rod makes the surface smooth and the O-ring seals better. This procedure also extends the life of the O-ring. I use OBP pedals and I have one slave cylinder. In my opinion, such a leak should not occur, especially since these parts are used in real cars. In addition, the leaked fluid can damage your home floor. Also, such responses from the company as to wipe the liquid from time to time are, in my opinion, unacceptable. Especially since these pedals are expensive. I think they could use parts other than Wilwood. Maybe it would be better.

    Thanks for the awesome review! This helped answer some questions I have for my DIY hydraulic upgrade to my HE Sprint brake. FYI looks like these Wilwood Slaves have some bad reviews on the racing parts sites. Many users saying they fail within a couple hundred miles due to the o-rings instead of cupped seals. Probably the same thing you noticed with the oil weeping. If anyone knows of a more reliable Master/Pull Slave combo let me know!

      @@Succotash3 sure absolutely! I've picked up a WIlwood master cylinder kit (P/N: 260-12385) to mount directly to my pedal plate behind my HE sprint brake. The plan is to leave the HE brake entirely intact, but disconnect and remove the dampener rod to connect the WIlwood master. Braided brake lines from the master will run to a set of WIlwood calipers (likely a pair of GP200's) with Honeywell pressure sensors or equivalent installed and routed directly to the input on the back of my Simucube Pro wheelbase. The calipers will contain Wilwood pads and a steel "disc" block that can be swapped out for different thicknesses to adjust the take-up feel. Rubber bushings installed inside of the caliper pistons to retract them on brake release. Still a work in progress but can provide a more detailed summary once complete.

    I don't understand why people are so afraid of potentiometers. They can be highly accurate and extremely reliable, the problem with most low end uses of potentiometers is they get low quality pots. I'd prefer a high end potentiometer with low PPM over a hall effect sensor that has a very unstable reading, and very susceptible to EMI any day.

So they are not connected, only one side is providing the info to PC while the other side is only for adjusting the pedal feeling... Seems crazy they are charging 2500 with 2 potentiometers attached. As an EE, there’s no potentiometer out there that doesn’t take damage as it rotates, not a lot, but over a million cycles it changes its resistance until it fails. At 2500 bucks I expect both those to be hall-effect sensors, so they don’t wear out... simply crazy... why put such great equipment then have the interpolation be basically the same as the g29.
    Blows my mind. The best hardware+ terrible sensors = terrible system.

    • @hellobooom
      @hellobooom 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, hall effect would be expected, I'd accept good linear pots at this price also. These are definitely overpriced no matter how you look at it, other converted pedal box designs are cheaper and fully custom sets are still cheaper...
