    Thanks for the review Laurence. The big plus for me is that the brake feel has been highly praised on the Asetek Invicta units even though they have a very short throw. They have also been tested to a million cycles, so like anything made in Europe, that means a lot to me even though it's more expensive. Generally anything out of China does not have that sort R&D behind it. Just ordered my Invicta 2 pedal unit while prices are somewhat cheaper at $699 because I no longer use the clutch on my current setup anyway.

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah it was important for me to mention they in the video. You can make the Simagic pedals feel very similar so there’s not a big performance divide but if you want to invest in quality, the aseteks seem like a good bet ;)

    Great little comparison showing each of their strenghts and weaknesses and nice that you managed to get it out before the price increase. They both look very promising and think both will have their own userbase. If I had the spare money to upgrade from my sprints currently, Id probably also pick the p2000s, especially hearing from the comments and pictures on discord, that the lateral movement has been fixed on newer units. However considering they will be 500€ apart in just a week, I think even with all the clever tech and developement on the invictas, the choice objectively would be rather easy towards simagic. The invictas do look nice, but they come with a couple of quirks that I dont think justify the price tag.
    I think with the price comparison, its also worth pointing out how a massive part of the invictas price, is in the clutch. I dont really get how the clutch alone is 299€ or even 349€ after the preorder special. With all the tech and developement that went into the brake system, I dont think its fair to tax 3 pedal users for that. It feels to me as if they are trying to appeal for the people that only run 2 pedals and kinda of try to get the money back by selling the clutches. It does price the 2 pedal set more competitively, but I will always want to run some manual cars and drift cars, so its simply not an option.

      I am very used to using pedal systems which use a cup system around the elastomers and these also simulate this 2 stage setup. Also the Simagic pedals use 2 springs as springs stop deforming once fully compressed. Elastomers don’t stop deforming. This is one of the reasons I was not a huge fan of the heusinkveld sprints.

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that there's so much complexity to a lot of this stuff that it's difficult to point everything out. It's a tough job, being a reviewer of these types of products. If you try to cover EVERYTHING then you end up with a 2 hour long video that nobody will watch :p I try to keep my videos a little bit shorter so as you can see in this one, some of the nerdy and technical chat is cut out to make it more consumable.

  • @themoonshell-F4LFJ
    @themoonshell-F4LFJ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Good job with the comparison!
    If it's matter of price, the Simagic is a winner. I think for the brake, the Simagic Hydraulic system is pointless if you still need springs to setup the pedal. As you've pointed out, the oil system will brings you more trouble than bennefit. But overall, you can't complain on anything, given their price.
    Regarding, the build quality, the Invica is a clear winner, many dye-cast aluminum parts and all cables hidden.
    I've choseen the Invicta for the brake system, the fact to have the company, Asetek, Europe. I too have a concern with the pedal face. But hopefully we will see Asetek releasing a new set of pedals faces shortly.

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey :) I think you're misquoting me slightly :) The hydraulic system definitely isn't pointless and all hydraulic pedal systems still need springs or elastomers to allow for a progressive throw. Ultimately the pedal still needs to 'do work'. In real life, this work is to clamp a brake disk with a caliper. In our simulators, we simulate this resistance with materials that compress.
      I also didn't say that hydraulic systems bring more trouble than benefit.
      I'm excited for you that you're getting the invicta. They're pretty amazing for sure :) I can't wait to get the smooth pedal faces too and I really feel that I need them before I finalise my review

    • @themoonshell-F4LFJ
      @themoonshell-F4LFJ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LaurenceDusoswa Hi Laurence, my appology for the misquoting and interpretation!
      Ok, so maybe the biggset difference between the two is that the Invicta have a fixed travel by an hard stop , while with the P2000 you have to play with springs to reach your wanted max force and travel balance. And this is the same for non hydraulic brake pedal systems.
      Overall, I like the fact that sim racers have now a lot of technical choices within various price range.
      Keep-up with comparison, as end-users like me, have no opportunity to compare pedals before buying them.

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah both pedals have a hard stop. It’s the load cell and fully compressed springs that are the hard stop for Simagic. The distance travelled is dictated by several factors which you can adjust on the Simagic. You can also tweak them to have as little play as the invicta pedals.

    Regarding your disconnects with the Simagic and you may already know and have tried this - but make sure any power saving settings for your USB ports is disabled as this is often a common issues with sim gear randomly disconnecting.

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah i have that sorted already, but this was an issue specific to the simagic pedals. It went away at a later stage so I'm not sure if it was due to an earlier software version maybe. I don't know and cannot reproduce it now. I didn't dock marks for that. The main reason the invicta got a higher score is because it's just slightly slicker.

    • @craiggallagher4461

      @@LaurenceDusoswa Personally I think Simagic would still be my pick, from price to the overall strong design, aesthetics and choice of materials (or way they’ve been used and shown off) plus I was shocked to hear you “can’t” adjust the Asetek pedals sideways on the base. I spotted what look like orange thumbscrews on it and simply assumed it also had that great adjustability feature that the Simagics have for such a lower price! The desire to support another economy than China’s is high but not for another 25% which for Aussie dollars is a lot of extra money again on top of already pricey Simagics (that do look and sound like you’re getting what you pay for though)

    Great review Laurence !
    The lack of versatility and unique brake feel on the Invicta is a bit of a deal breaker.
    The reliability over time (brake fluid leak ?) on the Simagic is a real concern in my mind.
    Now the question is , how do they compare VS more classical but very good Heusinkveld and Venym ?

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      the simagic 'leak' is more of a splash/spill really. The integrity of the system itself seems sound. The fact of the matter is that most high end pedal sets will make their owners very very happy.

      Yes, nothing pleasant about toxic hydraulic fluid leaking from 'new' brake units. It doesn't inspire confidence but apparently fairly common in many sim hydraulic brake systems that are available. Another plus for the Invicta design is that they use a vegetable oil instead. Definitely a more pet and family friendly approach.

    IMO…if you’re using some kind of haptic feedback system I think having the electronics separate from the rig like the P2000’s offer is a great idea! I had both my CSL V1’s and the Brake pedal on my Sprints fail, I’m not 100% sure it’s from the vibrations but once my Invicta’s arrive I’m removing the transducer from the pedal plate…BTW Heusinkveld is great they replaced the pedal no questions asked

  • @zwer54
    @zwer54 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    right at the beginning you have said about the base plate and how simagic you have options to move pedals on the plate while you can't do that with invicta so for that reason you give 1 point more to invicta which has less options??

    Thank you for doing a comparison video, really helpful. Was wondering if you really need the baseplate for the P2000s if you have a rig with a thick mounting plate already - like the Trak Racer or sim lab pedal plates - can the pedals be mounted directly to that? And how big a concern is the leaking brake fluid on the P2000s (is that actual brake fluid or something less toxic)? I like the idea of more setup options with the P2000s, but I have a dog so having any amount of brake fluid leakage around sounds like a deal breaker.

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have asked them to confirm about the fluid. As for the mounting plate question, there's no real reason that I can see that you can't just mount the pedals to your profile.

    The main issue of these hydraulic brakes is oil. Who wants the immersion of losing brake pressure in a sim, like the professionnals do in real racing, because the cylinder looses a tiny bit oil? Who wants oil on his home carpet ? What are the costs of repair ? The broken brake and the spoiled floor.
    Can't trust superficial influencers, the loss of oil is barely mentionned for the P2000, and the system isn't explained at all for the Asatek.
    Too much uncertainties to make a buying decision for either products.
    Unless someone like Barry takes the cyclinders apart to explain, how they try to minimize the obvious oil leak risk when it's repeatedly under explosive pressure of 100 up to 170kg.
    Principal of nature : what goes up, must go down, what goes in, will go out...

      @worms141414 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've talked to 3 He Ultimate + owners who have made the jump to the Asetek Invicta, every one of them repeats the same thing: they make the same times on the Asetek within a few laps on the track with no problem, once they are familiar with the pedals they are able to improve the times. Braking and pedal feel is child's play. They are extremely happy with the change to the Asetek. Some are bothered by the inferior throttle pedal, in their opinion, due to too weak a spring. Of course they are waiting for the Asettes to make a move, hoping they will get a stronger spring. Otherwise they will buy one at their own expense.
      I also know a few people who switched from VRS pedals to Asetek and they also appreciate this change.
      I do not know anyone who would make such a move and switch to the Simagic P2000.
      I have a huge dilemma what to buy. I pre-ordered the Invicta and I guess when my payment arrives and I don't have enough money I will buy the P2000 at a later date.
      Personally I think that in this comparison apart from the element of adjusting pedals to oneself Asetek is the winner.
      I wonder if in P2000 it is also possible to adjust the brake pedal with two-step feel the same way as in Asetek?

    For me, Asetek Invictas blow the P2000s out of the water. the DIY aspect of the simagic pedals is a big turnoff for me personally and since i don't need a clutch pedal anyway, the Invictas get very competitive in price. The Thorp system is more appealing to me than the double spring used in the P2000. I preordered the invictas a few months back.
    I would like to add to this comparison that Asetek THEMSELVES say that their product is not for everyone. If you want replicated realism then the invictas is going to be for you and if you want to be more casual about it then it's probably not for you.

    • @LaurenceDusoswa

      Thanks for the comment :) from a usage point of view, both can be set up and configured similarly so it’s not like the Simagic or other pedals don’t feel like race car pedals just because Asetek SimSports are so confident in theirs. It’s important to appreciate what asetek are doing, but every company says their own pedals are the best :)
      The thorp system is incredible and very compact. You’ll love them and you’re right about the 2 pedal set being more affordable or appealing. That clutch is kinda pricey.
      Good comment though :) definitely food for thought for people :)

      @@LaurenceDusoswa yeah it CAN be set up to feel good. But is it easy to get it there? Doesnt seem like it on the P2000. On the invictas, it is setup great out of the box according to the half dozen reviews i have watched and all reviewers are independent of each other. Personally I dont want to spend a ton of time adjusting a lot of things. The thing about not being able to move the pedals isnt a bad thing in my opinion. They are set up to replicate how it is set up in a real race car. That is what you are going to get.
      All I am saying is it is not just asetek themselves saying their product is the best ;)
      The one criticism that I do have is that I dont see how you can sell a clutch for 300 euros. 699 for high end race car pedals set up perfectly out of the box is a good price. I am excited for what they bring out next. They have bought some IPs that suggest a wheel base and wheels are coming. And lower end pedals have also been hinted at. I love what asetek is doing and it will make sure their competitors keep up which is better for the consumers overall!

    • @billwiley7216
      @billwiley7216 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@marcusberggren9241 But in an actual race car the race pedals are custom designed and spaced to best accommodate the intended driver of the vehicle as to foot size and personal preferences.
      Same goes for the actual race seat and its size and position.
      So having the pedals on your sim rig come out of the box with a vanilla fixed spacing not adjustable to actually best fit the intended driver is not done for the realism factor but more to have less engineering design involved, decrease parts count and possibly production cost or perhaps all of these reasons combined.
      I will also add that yes I am aware that the pedal spacing can be adjusted somewhat with the pedal face positioning but although I think that solution may be acceptable for lesser pedal offerings such as much more budget brands with under 100 kg maximum pressure designs I do not feel that this off center of the actual pedal arm and pivot point is a reasonable alternative to actually being able to keep the pedal face centered on the arm and moving the entire assembly to change the spacing.
      Going for a top end market then Asetek should have not worried about incorporating RGB lighting strips but more to making the product more adjustable to fit the consumers desires at such a high price point.
      I will also add I am not one of the gamers at a level this product is targeted for, but in my opinion neither will many of those that purchase such a system.
      The only people I can see that really need or benefit from a system like this may be real life drivers that sim race as well along the likes of a D. Perel or N. Thiim which could use their sim time getting more familiar with a track and want the pedal pressures to simulate their real race car so the differences will be minimal when they switch from the sim to the real life track.
      The average gamer who is not real life racing needs repeatable braking response and needing to be at extremely high pressure forces to obtain that is not a requirement and in itself is not going to make you a better sim racer in my opinion.

    Did Simagic review this video before you released it? Not sure that I can trust any Simagic review knowing how they like to control what's published about their products. This brings question marks over the couple of categories where the Simagic product was marked down. Build quality surely should have been a point or 2 lower, as should the electronics scores. The issues you raised on both of those didn't tally to the scores given, certainly not when you look at the hammering you gave the Invictas in the final score (and I'm not saying that score wasn't justified). Just knowing Simagic's controlling nature detracts from this review, certainly in light of reviews from other very trusted you-tubers.

      Wow 😂 I have done many Simagic reviews now and if you watched any/all of them you would see that there’s no way Simagic would have been in control of the review 😂
      It also undermines my integrity that you would think that my reviews could be influenced in any way. I’m not motivated by money or hardware. This is a part time thing for me and I never sell any of the hardware I am sent as I feel that it cannot have monetary value to a reviewer. As soon as I would sell some hardware it would be as good as being paid for a review.
      And finally, the sole purpose of these comparisons is to allow people to adjust the numbers to suit their liking so that they can come to reasoned and tangible conclusions. If I felt that my concerns and opinions were the only one that mattered, I wouldn’t use this format.
