Download MySQL Workbench on Mac - 2023

- How to download and install MySQL Workbench on a Mac in 2023.
People have had issues on Mac with Workbench quitting unexpectedly. If you're experiencing this, go to the archives and download version 8.0.21 or 8.0.31. Either of those should work.
If you've made changes in Workbench, it should be safe to delete and replace. It's just showing you your MySQL database(s) which are not being deleted when you delete Workbench. Workbench is just a GUI (Graphical User Interface).

If you get a
"Incompatible/nonstandard server version or connection protocol detected (9.0.0)" error or something similar its likely because MySQL has released a newer version while Workbench does not yet have an updated version that is compatible.
I had to go back and download and older version of MySql

Everything worked perfectly, except I am getting this error in the end: Incompatible/nonstandard server version or connection protocol detected (8.1.0).I've searched ways to fix this, tried the 'reverse engineering' from the database, nothing has worked so far. There are instructions on stackoverflow of how to fix this on windows, but no luck so far on mac. Any advice?

You should be able to go to Edit > Preferences > SQL Editor. Then check Show metadata and schemas.
It’s also possible that it’s already showing, but you have to expand that area. You might see a skinny space with a dot in the middle that you can click and drag to expand.

if i already have MySQL workbench and server do I still need to install xampp? I did install them bcs my lecturer required me to although it doesn’t seem useful

It says I don't have any server running and I can't use it.
Do you have MySQL downloaded/installed? I have a video on that, too.
If you do have it, go to your system preferences, click MySQL at the bottom, and you’ll see if the MySQL server is running.
If it’s not, you can click Start Server.
hi , i have download mysql and my sql workbench but every time i try to do a select query the workbench disappears do you know why this may be ? ive been looking online and can not find out any reason why this may be happening

I got Warning after putting the password, Connection Warning (Local instance 3306)
I encountered the same issue. It said the workbench was designed to support 8.0 and some other versions of MySQL, so I uninstalled the 8.1 version of MySQL, and downloaded the 8.0 version of MySQL instead. I think it worked.
