Sora doesn't get enough respect for how much he respects Roxas. To him, Roxas was never just a shadow or reflection of him. He was a completely separate person who deserved to live his own life. Being who he was, not who Sora was.
I would've been bawling. Roxas basically showed Sora a whole other life. Sora felt all of Roxas' pain, losing people he didn't even know. Kinda like a 'look what I gave up, so you better not f this up.'
In my eyes Sora and Roxas relationship has been the best in this series to date. If you know his story from 358/2 days into KH2 then you know how much he resented sora, and opposed him, he was thinking and reasoning, he had a greater understanding of what was around him. In contrast to sora, who has a tendency of traveling wherever his heart leads him in a carefree and naive way. I think at the beginning of KH2 he accepts his fate, but doesnt necessarily accept sora. And I think that within sora, seeing his carefree actions within KH2 fed that frustration. Probably thinking he sacrificed his life for someone who wont get the job done. We see at the end of KH2 when Roxas attacks sora inside of his heart, hes either trying to test him or even regain control. And we see just how strong Roxas is compared to him and how frustrated he was at sora, mindlessly bashing him probably with the intent on really hurting him (because of his his will and resolve) But when Sora supposedly calls upon the hearts connected to him to gain strength and subdues roxas, I feel like he started to understand why Sora was so special. And like he says "you make a good other". And ultimately seeing him again a second time after Xemnas defeat telling him "square up" almost like hes telling him "you still have work to do". Fast forwarding to DDD, I think Soras actions really drive it home for Roxas. Allowing him to see that he was wrong about Sora, that his unobstructed, innocent, carefree attitude is what caused him to get that far, risking his life, even to the point or reawakening Xions memory inside of him. And at this point he even tells Sora "this couldve been the other way around" showing both Sora and the audience that he had the power to retake control at any moment but chose to let Sora fulfill his role. He continues "but it has to be you" showing at this point he understands that Sora is the only one who can mend all the broken hearts either because of his nature, or maybe something else more special that he saw within Sora (like a special power/destiny). That's what makes the interactions between them that much more special and seeing Roxas become his own fully formed human again in KH3 really brings his character arc full circle.

Roxas' existence is pure fucking heartbreaking. Imagine living out your life with extreme existential questions about upbringing and no answers, only to be told you're actually really somebody else and weren't supposed to even exist. And then get captured, placed into a matrix world, and even have that illusion of belonging and friendship eventually snatched from you too, then to essentially die.
The faint smile right before the "Sora, see? That's why it has to be you" was the reason of my collapse, I cried so much in this scene, Roxas really gave up his existence because he believed Sora's would be more beneficial to the world

This is one of my favorite scenes ever. When Sora sees what we all saw through Roxas, that he's a different person. Sora is so sweet in acknowledging Roxas' existence, and the dialogue is just fantastic.

Well yeah, Ansem The Wise had his own issues going on, and Riku had no way of knowing the real score. Sora neither knew nor cared about that, and believed Roxas to be his own person. Kinda part of Sora's character, when one actually thinks about it. Hell, Data-Ansem outright acknowledged it to Riku later in KH3D, in the deepest depths of Sora's heart.
indeed, Sora would say the same thing to Namine, who thought no one cared for her, but Sora says everyone does care for her and still wants to thank her in person.

I always say that Nomura tried to "Ventus" Roxas. which is proof during the fact that in KH 2.5, most of Roxas' voice lines sound like how Jesse McCartney plays Ventus. There are differences in Roxas' and Ventus' voices. So Roxas was intended to have some of Sora's facials, but now he just has Ventus'.
Turned out to be retroactively deliberate. When Sora opened his heart to free Kairi's late in KH1, causing his own heart to fall into darkness, Ven's heart stayed with Sora's discarded body, causing Roxas to take on Ven's appearance and voice. Out-of-universe, this decision led to only Ven's clothes being designed, and placed on Roxas' model.

"Sora, see...That's why it has to be you." This scene hits so hard emotionally. Roxas is saying Sora is a better person than he could ever be as he may not have done the same if the roles had been reversed. But he's also saying that Sora's existence is much more meaningful and important to the world than his own. Roxas saying this is both selfless and sad and his reaction to Sora telling him that Roxas is his own person; that he deserves to be his own person; is heartwarming.
1:08 I like how Roxas pretty much admits that Sora deserves to exist more than him. He would've taken his life from Sora selfishly. But Sora would give anything to grant Roxas existence.
Roxas realized his life was damn near mediocrity compared to the mission Sora was on and why sora was chosen by the keyblade. But Sora validating his existence despite how inferior he felt to him still shocked Roxas. It hit hard qcause when Roxas first found out the truth from namine she started it with “you were never suppose to exist” So “you DESERVE to exist” from Sora was the first time he’s felt accepted since figuring out who and what he is.

That would be the reason he inherited ideals that contrasted from Sora’s nature. “Did they cause all this pain?” Yes and it was on purpose. Roxas’ need for friendship is the part of Sora that binds him to the light and winded up saving Roxas from an even worse fate: being Vanitas 2.0. Lol
The notes in Days reveal to us Kingdom Hearts was more than willing to power Roxas. All he had to do was ask. If Roxas had held on just a little longer inside Sora, if he had bidden his time 'til he could take control of him...He might have obtained it.
"Sora, see? That's why it has to be you." I like how Roxas admits Sora is better than him. He wouldn't make the same choice. At the end of Roxas' summer vacation, he's so bitter about Sora getting the chance to exist and not him. But Sora would fight for Roxas and makes sure he gets his own life.
Axel and Lea essentially fused and became the same person Roxas and Sora were too different to join back together properly, most likely because of roxas' existence as a special (notice how when roxas rejoined Sora, Sora didn't automatically gain Roxas' memories, and his personality didn't really merge with Roxas' either)
@@yeyeye802 No, Lea and Axel were one and the same. Lea had either served under Xemnas for so long like Saix that their memories of what it was like to have hearts faded. Or Lea was trying to distance himself from his emotions like in Days. This disconnect between Roxas and Sora happened because Roxas is made from Ventus's heart, I think.
I realize it's an old question, but this is because Axel had Lea's memories, and they never existed at the same time. Roxas is an exception because he made his own personality, he didn't have Sora's memories, so he became a different person. This is true for Naminé and Xion also, same circunstances. Btw this is something that isn't really explained, but makes the most to me.
@@The_B_Button No, Axel Isn't really Lea. Long explanation incoming because it's a messy subject. When a human submits to darkness they split into a heartless and a nobody. The memories of the human then go to the nobody so they remember their og lives. What you're saying would mean nobodies are people who forgot how to feel, but this is not the case, because Axel had to die for Lea to come back. DDD confirms nobodies can grow hearts, but it's a new heart not the one their original self had. In Roxas' case the memories didn't get to him because Sora wasn't a heartless for that long which made Roxas a blank slate. Since he had Ventus' heart he was able to feel and form his own personality.
This scene is genuinely one of the best moments in the whole series imo. Roxas' entire life and existence has been about fighting so hard to be his own person, to be allowed to exist. Hes had to deal with so much pain about that. And the person who is technically at the heart of all of it due to being his Other is the very person who undeniably sees him as his own person and validates him with that. I think its actually incredibly important that Roxas and Sora had this interaction, i think they both really needed it. I think its really important that Sora is the one to really believe in and respect Roxas as his own person without a doubt.
Considering what he said,i kinda think roxas could have straight up taken sora instead of what actually happened. Kind of a scary thought to consider that if sora was fighting a roxas HOLDING BACK,god knows what he could have done if he started rampaging
i agree i love that sora respects Roxas to be his own person. as of kh3/ kh3 remind, i still wish throughout the series, Roxas and Sora got SOME SORT of a deeper friendship somehow. maybe how it came to be for Roxas journey of understanding Sora is of course the relationship... but i wish there were 2-3 moments where Roxas and Sora talk like how Namine and Sora talk...Namine and Sora have this weird direct way of discussing with each other "but then namine and sora friendship wouldnt stand out" i get that too! but Roxas IS my favorite KH character. but somehow it ALSO feels like even in KH3 Remind, Sora hurries off to help more guardians during their fights and leaves Roxas to be with Axel and Xion (understandable) but I wish there was a moment of further trust and care for each other between Sora and Roxas at some point. (unless anybody has a youtube link to cutscenes having similar or exact moments I'm wishing for but maybe missed out on knowing about..?)
4 months later, but yeah, I kinda wish so also. There're those 'you'll see it if you squint' moments though. Like compared to Days, Roxas in KH3/Remind put his full trust in Sora to help him come back to his friends. Those silent nods they exchange. Then that "You, worried?" quip from Roxas when Sora got down about losing Kairi. I feel like that friendship between them does exist already. It's just not given much attention with everything else going on.
That's good but I think they kinda have a brothly bond like Roxas a Sora are kinda twins. Like there very different people but they just have to look at eachother and they know exactly what's going on
@@crazyredhead4968 well, roxas started out hating sora... i dont think they brotherly. but they do end up understanding each other, especially roxas understanding sora has the bigger purpose and knows it has to be sora to do what he does. but most of the time, sora and roxas dont really directly communicate. there are definitely good scenes where they DO communicate, but it feels so... different compared to Namine x Sora...
@@soraprince5336 I know what you mean there. I wish a lot of characters were allowed the time to mingle more- It's always so serious, on to the next task! I really just think that this is due to the fact that there was too much content to fit into this game already to put too much extra "cute" scenes, aside from really important ones like reunions. Also, the fact here, Roxas accepts that Sora has an important role, and in kh3, Roxas even directly *asks* Sora for help. That's a HUGE development right there. By now, I think that hatred is gone, not that I ever thought it was hatred in the first place, just sadness, frustration and jealousy. I always felt like Roxas felt a closeness to the "boy in red" from his dreams, as it felt like home, but did not necessarily outweigh the longing he had to live a life. After all, it was "another me" that took over his life, not a random kid. Also, siblings can ABSOLUTELY hate each other, so it's sweet to watch them grow past that stage. I'd say that Sora and Roxas are on good terms now, and could be considered friends. I think this is just hard to see how everyone truly regards each other when the situations are dire and there's no time to talk. I hope we get more opportunities to see these characters mingle, goof around, and grow closer. I wanna see how Kairi might act toward Roxas and Ventus! Or how about Riku and Roxas? I wonder if Riku and Kairi would just be reminded of Sora (is it comforting or saddening?) I wanna see Xion be able to chat with Riku and catch up, now they can do so under new circumstances. Riku/Roxas and Namine have a lot of catching up to do. And the list goes on haha
I can understand why Soras heart got so weak during this whole sequence for his side of the story but admittedly if I’m being honest I think Roxas was the nail in the coffin compared to bumping into Xion and Ventus. I can understand how having Xion appear even if Sora never met her hurting him a little given what she went through even though it was erased from everyone else’s mind and heart, soras heart is still connected to hers which is how he was able to still feel her pain. And ventus in the meanwhile Sora had only met briefly as a child but due to the fact ventus lives in his heart it would only make sense to use that connection in tandem with seeing Terra and Aqua to further break his heart but Roxas of all of them was the nail. Sora knew Roxas, grew to understand the pain and to Sora he felt like Roxas was a true living being and friend and was given an unfair hand in life. It’s why his words and expressions given in much more then the other two because he felt the closest to Roxas and in his compassionate heart Roxas deserved better then what he got, add the fact of when Roxas shows Sora his life and tells Sora that it had to be him only further added to Soras pain… in a way this game showed how much pain Sora really could take before even he could fall… which given it took all of that it really only further proves Data Roxas point that Sora really is the only one who can carry the hurt and pain inside of him… I just wish KH3 did a better job showing that cause like everyone else I felt the game didn’t quite live up to what this scene set up.
There's a good dark fanfic called "Twilight Will" in which he refuses to return to Sora. Sora is my favorite character... But I was very proud of Roxas for fighting to claim a future of his own design. Because that is how you know you're a living being. Any less, and you just happen to be a toy that breathes.
I actually read that fanfic because of this comment; It's iffy on a lot of points and becomes discontinued, but still an enjoyable read! Thank you for sharing!
@JabamiLain That's really cool, and I'm glad to know they're still around. I don't mind if it continues or not tho because they already did put so much work and commitment for like 9 years. Life goes on and what not. My favorite arc was the Jak 3 crossover, and I loved the idea of beings in other worlds being familiar with the cosmology to the KH universe.
**HONESTLY.... this is the key missing ingredient element scene for KINGDOM HEARTS 2 (or 2.5 remix hd now you call it)..... the proper... PROPER INTERACTION between SORA AND ROXAS.** Still great to see them both resolved it ON SCREEN and not just for the sake of story/based plot focus.
People seem to misunderstand Roxas. He DID break after everything he went through, like Riku did in the past. If Riku became Ansem's successor, then Roxas is Xemnas's, because Riku destroyed the friendship between him and Xion when he told her to keep their encounters secret. Roxas tried to get Kingdom Hearts for himself. He was willing to sacrifice reality for her, like Riku was willing to sacrifice the worlds for Sora. Why does everyone keep saying they're so innocent ? They're awesome characters and people, but they're not heroes. They are like Darth Revan. They are whatever fits their needs. And I ask you...What's so wrong with that ?

:30 I often think of what KH2 would've been like with a solo roxas. Maybe he would've met Donald and Goofy and tried to help them bring Sora back, maybe he would've went on his own quest to fight organization 13.
With Sora asleep, it's unlikely Donald or Goofy would wake up. Oh ! And Roxas tried to take hold of Kingdom Hearts for himself after Xion's death. Because of DiZ and Riku's way of approaching him, all you would have gotten for a protagonist would have been a teenage Xemnas.
Imagine if Roxas came with Sora in smash. With the difference being Roxas having Dual-wielded. Comment update: Thinking about it more. While Dual-wielded is a good idea. I think if Roxas were to be in with Sora, it’d be better if he was an alt doing double-handed keyblade style instead, Since its more simple.

No. He's not. He is Sora's nobody and Sora's alone. Roxas' existence has nothing to do with Ventus. The only reason Roxas looks like Ventus is because when Sora became a heartless, Ventus' heart was brought into Roxas, forming his looks. That's it.
Sooo I only ever played the original KH2 on the PS2. I know there is a scene when Sora gets to the World that Never Was and we see him fight Roxas and all he sort of says is "you make a good other" and then we don't see Roxas again until right before the final fight. I also know that in the KH2.5 remix, you get to actually fight Roxas. But this is the first time I'm seeing this cut scene. At what point in the game does this happen?
Not really but okay because kh3 confirmed Sora and Kairi. Sora and Roxas would be selfcest as Roxas is his Darkness and comes from Sora. If you had a nobody why would you go out romantically with your nobody/darkness? If there was a dna Test Roxas and Sora would completely almost be identical
Short version: Roxas is Sora nobody who look like Ventus because his heart was inside Sora at the time he was born. Roxas after the beginning of KH2, stay inside Sora until the end of Kh3 where they manage to extract his heart who he developed through his year in the organization without having to kill Sora again.

But give his spirit back, and you get a version of Sora who confesses to feel the need for power, and feels entitled to hate and tear apart those who'll hurt him or his circle. If I had to describe Roxas, I'd say he's the tamed version of Caim (Drakengard, Nier' prequel).

"Sora, see...That's why it has to be you." This scene hits so hard emotionally. Roxas is saying Sora is a better person than he could ever be as he may not have done the same if the roles had been reversed. But he's also saying that Sora's existence is much more meaningful and important to the world than his own. Roxas saying this is both selfless and sad and his reaction to Sora telling him that Roxas is his own person; that he deserves to be his own person; is heartwarming.

So “you DESERVE to exist” from Sora was the first time he’s felt accepted since figuring out who and what he is.

That would be the reason he inherited ideals that contrasted from Sora’s nature. “Did they cause all this pain?” Yes and it was on purpose. Roxas’ need for friendship is the part of Sora that binds him to the light and winded up saving Roxas from an even worse fate:
being Vanitas 2.0.

Roxas and Sora were too different to join back together properly, most likely because of roxas' existence as a special (notice how when roxas rejoined Sora, Sora didn't automatically gain Roxas' memories, and his personality didn't really merge with Roxas' either)
@@yeyeye802 No, Lea and Axel were one and the same. Lea had either served under Xemnas for so long like Saix that their memories of what it was like to have hearts faded. Or Lea was trying to distance himself from his emotions like in Days.
This disconnect between Roxas and Sora happened because Roxas is made from Ventus's heart, I think.
I realize it's an old question, but this is because Axel had Lea's memories, and they never existed at the same time. Roxas is an exception because he made his own personality, he didn't have Sora's memories, so he became a different person. This is true for Naminé and Xion also, same circunstances.
Btw this is something that isn't really explained, but makes the most to me.
@@The_B_Button No, Axel Isn't really Lea. Long explanation incoming because it's a messy subject. When a human submits to darkness they split into a heartless and a nobody. The memories of the human then go to the nobody so they remember their og lives. What you're saying would mean nobodies are people who forgot how to feel, but this is not the case, because Axel had to die for Lea to come back. DDD confirms nobodies can grow hearts, but it's a new heart not the one their original self had.
In Roxas' case the memories didn't get to him because Sora wasn't a heartless for that long which made Roxas a blank slate. Since he had Ventus' heart he was able to feel and form his own personality.

This scene is genuinely one of the best moments in the whole series imo. Roxas' entire life and existence has been about fighting so hard to be his own person, to be allowed to exist. Hes had to deal with so much pain about that. And the person who is technically at the heart of all of it due to being his Other is the very person who undeniably sees him as his own person and validates him with that. I think its actually incredibly important that Roxas and Sora had this interaction, i think they both really needed it. I think its really important that Sora is the one to really believe in and respect Roxas as his own person without a doubt.
Considering what he said,i kinda think roxas could have straight up taken sora instead of what actually happened.
Kind of a scary thought to consider that if sora was fighting a roxas HOLDING BACK,god knows what he could have done if he started rampaging

but Roxas IS my favorite KH character. but somehow it ALSO feels like even in KH3 Remind, Sora hurries off to help more guardians during their fights and leaves Roxas to be with Axel and Xion (understandable) but I wish there was a moment of further trust and care for each other between Sora and Roxas at some point.

There're those 'you'll see it if you squint' moments though. Like compared to Days, Roxas in KH3/Remind put his full trust in Sora to help him come back to his friends. Those silent nods they exchange. Then that "You, worried?" quip from Roxas when Sora got down about losing Kairi.
I feel like that friendship between them does exist already. It's just not given much attention with everything else going on.
That's good but I think they kinda have a brothly bond like Roxas a Sora are kinda twins. Like there very different people but they just have to look at eachother and they know exactly what's going on
@@crazyredhead4968 well, roxas started out hating sora... i dont think they brotherly. but they do end up understanding each other, especially roxas understanding sora has the bigger purpose and knows it has to be sora to do what he does. but most of the time, sora and roxas dont really directly communicate. there are definitely good scenes where they DO communicate, but it feels so... different compared to Namine x Sora...
@@soraprince5336 I know what you mean there. I wish a lot of characters were allowed the time to mingle more- It's always so serious, on to the next task! I really just think that this is due to the fact that there was too much content to fit into this game already to put too much extra "cute" scenes, aside from really important ones like reunions. Also, the fact here, Roxas accepts that Sora has an important role, and in kh3, Roxas even directly *asks* Sora for help. That's a HUGE development right there. By now, I think that hatred is gone, not that I ever thought it was hatred in the first place, just sadness, frustration and jealousy. I always felt like Roxas felt a closeness to the "boy in red" from his dreams, as it felt like home, but did not necessarily outweigh the longing he had to live a life. After all, it was "another me" that took over his life, not a random kid. Also, siblings can ABSOLUTELY hate each other, so it's sweet to watch them grow past that stage. I'd say that Sora and Roxas are on good terms now, and could be considered friends. I think this is just hard to see how everyone truly regards each other when the situations are dire and there's no time to talk.
I hope we get more opportunities to see these characters mingle, goof around, and grow closer. I wanna see how Kairi might act toward Roxas and Ventus! Or how about Riku and Roxas? I wonder if Riku and Kairi would just be reminded of Sora (is it comforting or saddening?) I wanna see Xion be able to chat with Riku and catch up, now they can do so under new circumstances. Riku/Roxas and Namine have a lot of catching up to do. And the list goes on haha

I can understand why Soras heart got so weak during this whole sequence for his side of the story but admittedly if I’m being honest I think Roxas was the nail in the coffin compared to bumping into Xion and Ventus. I can understand how having Xion appear even if Sora never met her hurting him a little given what she went through even though it was erased from everyone else’s mind and heart, soras heart is still connected to hers which is how he was able to still feel her pain. And ventus in the meanwhile Sora had only met briefly as a child but due to the fact ventus lives in his heart it would only make sense to use that connection in tandem with seeing Terra and Aqua to further break his heart but Roxas of all of them was the nail.
Sora knew Roxas, grew to understand the pain and to Sora he felt like Roxas was a true living being and friend and was given an unfair hand in life. It’s why his words and expressions given in much more then the other two because he felt the closest to Roxas and in his compassionate heart Roxas deserved better then what he got, add the fact of when Roxas shows Sora his life and tells Sora that it had to be him only further added to Soras pain… in a way this game showed how much pain Sora really could take before even he could fall… which given it took all of that it really only further proves Data Roxas point that Sora really is the only one who can carry the hurt and pain inside of him… I just wish KH3 did a better job showing that cause like everyone else I felt the game didn’t quite live up to what this scene set up.
What will it take in Quadratum to break him ? Paraphrasing the Luteces, if blood turns a girl into woman, what turns a boy into man ?

There's a good dark fanfic called "Twilight Will" in which he refuses to return to Sora. Sora is my favorite character... But I was very proud of Roxas for fighting to claim a future of his own design. Because that is how you know you're a living being. Any less, and you just happen to be a toy that breathes.

My favorite arc was the Jak 3 crossover, and I loved the idea of beings in other worlds being familiar with the cosmology to the KH universe.

People seem to misunderstand Roxas.
He DID break after everything he went through, like Riku did in the past. If Riku became Ansem's successor, then Roxas is Xemnas's, because Riku destroyed the friendship between him and Xion when he told her to keep their encounters secret. Roxas tried to get Kingdom Hearts for himself. He was willing to sacrifice reality for her, like Riku was willing to sacrifice the worlds for Sora.
Why does everyone keep saying they're so innocent ? They're awesome characters and people, but they're not heroes. They are like Darth Revan. They are whatever fits their needs. And I ask you...What's so wrong with that ?

:30 I often think of what KH2 would've been like with a solo roxas. Maybe he would've met Donald and Goofy and tried to help them bring Sora back, maybe he would've went on his own quest to fight organization 13.
With Sora asleep, it's unlikely Donald or Goofy would wake up. Oh ! And Roxas tried to take hold of Kingdom Hearts for himself after Xion's death. Because of DiZ and Riku's way of approaching him, all you would have gotten for a protagonist would have been a teenage Xemnas.
This title was the last of KH’s prime in cutscenes. Everything went to downfall afterwards.

Sooo I only ever played the original KH2 on the PS2. I know there is a scene when Sora gets to the World that Never Was and we see him fight Roxas and all he sort of says is "you make a good other" and then we don't see Roxas again until right before the final fight. I also know that in the KH2.5 remix, you get to actually fight Roxas. But this is the first time I'm seeing this cut scene. At what point in the game does this happen?
Towards the end, before the Xemnas battle. This happens in Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance (originally for the 3DS)
