This is a great tutorial!! This is the only video I could find that showed off that top-screen protector thing (the frame-like thing that was pried off the old screen and used to cover the silver edges of the new screen). I have a dirty spot under mine but I couldn't find any videos explaining if it was a strict part of the LCD screen or what ever else. So relieved!
You are welcome! And by the way, you don't need to take it apart to remove that lens. You can heat it up a bit with a hair dryer with care to not damage the lcd and lift it up with a succion cup thing
By far the best tutorial I've seen. I really want to get an IPS 3ds without breaking the bank so I was thinking of buying displays on systems with worse condition and hoping they are IPS. All the other tutorials are not nearly as in depth as this one!

Does 3d works? Many 3ds replacement screen from aliexpress makes the 3d function doesnt work anymore & trying to buy an original screen taken out from a broken console is more expensive too.

Hey what screw driver did you use for the interior screws?! Can you post a link here? I've tried with PH 00 and not working is destroying the screws head.
@@fernandaclaudius8673 I mean to say that you will need a JIS screwdriver for the internal screws. They are probably size 00 or 000. If you try to use a PH screwdriver you'll strip the head of the screw like you said.
I usually use the same screwdriver that I use for the screws on the outside! the problem is they are very fragile and can strip easily. but I use the same one
If you are going to do it yourself I don't consider it expensive, because any repair shop you cost you at lease 3 times the screen price to repair. But I do consider it challenging for a first timer. My advice would be to do it very patiently, don't rush it. It's when you rush that you make the mistakes. Be very careful and gentle with everything. But my best advice would be, if the dead pixels are not bothering you to a point you can't play, just let them be. Sometimes they go away by themselves and it's just not worth risking it.
@ethansmith2191 the most important one is don't panic. If you are struggling too much take a break and try again later. Sometimes people get impatient and break them because they are just tired of trying. Also, I have a video called "the easiest way to feed the ribbon cable" or something like that in my channel that might help. Gimme a second and I'll find the link

I want to do this. Your video is fantastic and I just repaired my son's old Zelda 2DS so while this is harder, I have great confidence. What I have less confidence in is the screens I'm seeing online. I'm seeing reviews that the screen isn't as bright as the lower one and that the 3D effect no longer works. That won't be acceptable to me and there are so many styles of 3DS I don't want to get things confused. Where did you order your parts from?
@JeremyWelchDesigner I never had a screen that didn't have the 3d function. Maybe people are just not installing them right. They need to put the two side ribbon cables well for it to work. I buy parts from aliexpress
How did you pop off the top plate so easily? I took out all four screws, and I’ve been trying for ages to take it off, and it only budges a little bit!
@@axuwu6939 you have to slide it so the clips get off, then you can remove it! The direction you slide it before lifting is from the hinge part towards the top off the screen part
@@axuwu6939 it's hard to explain but I do it in the video, if you watch closely, I used my fingers to put some pressure on the spot with the clips/tabs

In ali express they don't usually write "new". You need The 3ds xl screen with 2 different ribbon cables in the side. The old 3ds xl has both side cables identical. The New 3ds xl has one side cable different from the other.
I was thinking of buying one with a little tiny messed up area in the top screen for only 50usd. This is totally in my skill level but I don't think I even wanna bother lmao. My hands are all arthritic now and dealing with this amount of ribbon cables is just absurd D=
@@MilaNavi I found out it was one of the golden cables connected to the first motherboad, unfortuntaly my camera says "An error has occurred. Hold down the POWER button to off the power, then turn it on and try again." And I screwed up the touch cable for the bottom screen

I need you to do a MUCH more indepth video about those STUPID ribbon cables, how the hell do you just GET them to roll that Nicely, even broken I can't get them to actually take that shape Edit: after an absolutely massive amount of frustration, if you ever have to take apart the ENTIRE top assembly, they do have a specific order they need to go in, in order to go in smoothly. Camera, then speaker, then screen cables, then feed the wireless cable, and it should all go VERY smoothly.

I never had that problem with aliexpress screens. maybe check the ribbon cable?
Is it necessary to unplug all that just to change the screen?
I don't think I can do all this before getting to the display cables.
@lucerocano3868 sadly yes, because you need to pass the cable through the hinge and the only way to do it is by separating the top from the bottom

@@axuwu6939 try putring some pressure in the darker rectangle of the cover, the one that fits in the hinge part. I usually put some pressure there

if so, the system is failing the hardware check and a ribbon cable wasn't connected properly
