Hey PioneerDJ: Ever heard of software development cycles? There is the version number X.Y.Z (eg. version 6.8.1) where X is the major release to add new features, doing refactoring, etc. There is Y which stands for minor release (to add features as well, make improvements, etc.) and there is Z. Z stands for "bugfix release" where you ONLY fix things and do NOT add or remove feautures..
Going from Engine DJ to Rekordbox library is like night and day. Engine DJ laps RB in terms of speed and synchronization. Hopefully RB+ will be a vast and much needed improvement.
Updated to 6.8.1 before my gig, didn't realise they'd forced this new DL so when I put my USB in to Sync it took so long I had to cancel the sync. Tried to use my USB at a gig and it went into emergency loop on the first track. Luckily I keep spares and don't update all my USBs at the same time. Rest assured I reverted back to 6.8.0 and will be staying there until they fix the bugs.
This doesn't look good. I am afraid that even the export (to USB) could become a subscription in the future. (I don't update my gear until I have no choice).
I think I figured out the fix. Kept having failed exports (frozen on random %s). Looking at the playlist, I found a few tracks that had lost their link to the actual file. Fixed this and export is working again.@@digitaldjtips

I use RB5.8 and use CDJ 3000. How will this affect me in the long run? I haven't changed to RB6 as I am suspicious that they eventually will force us to pay a rent to be able to use the gear that they already charged us a massive chunk of money. I know there are "better options" in RB6 but my setup just works..... I mean the subscription model is something that should be discussed more in terms of the future. I really love pioneer gear, although I use a Prime GO and a SC live 4 (really hate the button action but it does the job) as playing in bar/lounges/rest/hotel pool doesn't justify ($) to bring the club setup.

It's like (and I am not a conspiracy theorist) everything is slowly but systematically conditioning us towards the so called 2030 reset (read the motto: you will own nothing and be happy). Actually so frighteningly real that even the words for this appeared in perfect order in the suggested words on the iPhone.
Changing a database schema after release is nearly impossible. This is evident enough in that there isn't any backwards compatibility with Plus. Modern databases have improved a lot over the years. It will be an improvement across the board for their software and hardware once completely phased in but that won't be for another decade I imagine.
basically the old DB technology they used sucks very hard. it's extremely niche, hard to maintain, hard to implement, very uncommon and generally an outdated technology (forgot the name of it though, something like DeviceSQL or DeviceDB). the new DB format uses SQLite which is an industry wide standard and open-source (though pioneer encrypts the database) and has great support with libraries to interact with an SQLite DB for pretty much all operating systems and programming languages. furthermore, rekordbox itself has been using SQLite for it's database on the computer for many years (maybe always?) already, so the new DB format is much closer to what rekordbox already does anyway.
I exported my week playlist using RB6 that I updated recently (2 memory sticks for redundancy), then I took my I call "weird setup" 2 x XDJ-700 and an Omnitronic TRM 202MK3 and the players didn't recognize the usb drive.... I didn't enter in fully hysteria mode and replaced the setup with the BUp one Denon Prime GO, and it worked perfectly. Strange, but thankfully I always carry the GO with me. Have any Idea for what could be the problem??
I found earlier USB drives and they worked, so I went "get info) and found the culprit: as we behaved in autonomous mode when we think it's a given skill, the ones not being read by the 700's were formatted EXFAt, and should be MS-DOS (FAT32). I am no computer gig, but it's the difference I found and when reformatting, they worked.... Maybe this mistake can be reminded to your viewers...
Having major issues with the conversion. To device library plus, my playlists are missing songs, everything is out of order and messed up, making my. Life a he'll to deal.with at the moment how they get a fix asap
@@digitaldjtips The weird thing that happens is, if i update or add a new song to a playlist, after adding the song, it automatically duplicates the song multiple times and there is like 6 of the same song in the playlist lol rekordbox needs to fix this asap, it doesnt happen every time but half the time ide say
Hi, My USB stick had a message saying 'Device library corrupted, do you want to delete device library'. I clicked yes (as the stick would not register at all if I clicked no). I now have all my playlists on Device library plus. How can I reload my playlists to the device library on this particular usb stick? All my other sticks are fine.

I might of missed it but does it contain more memory for this digital plus playlist? Im losing it how these updates really screwed everything up for me on a new PC. 😢 My usb's cannot have another copy of the same playlist if its taking the same memory space for it.
My Rekordbox library has music plus I have iTunes on another internal SSD on the same computer. Ever since 6.85 i can't see mt iTunes library. I am on a old Rekordbox DDJ 1000. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do, so i can see my iTunes Music Folder. iTunes is not my main source on my computer. I have my main larger SSdrive loaded down with music in Recordbox. As far as iTunes it's stuff I've downloaded for this n that occasions. Plus I have ripped some CDs here and there too. What can I do to Re Discover or find my missing iTunes music library music folder? When I go to iTunes on my Windows computer and click to the last click where you click music - it goes to previously downloaded previous Library automatically downloaded etc. acute iterations ago on record box I can easily find my iTunes library without having to click a whole bunch of boxes and so forth.
It’s a huge question and the answer would depend on so many variables on your system. It’s why our primary advice when it comes to any of this is keep it as simple as possible and then even simpler.

@@digitaldjtips I use it for when I’m downloading music so I can add the new music into the designated folders or if I want to drag and drop playlists into a different software
i'm sad that pioneer not only encrypted the new DB export like the desktop DB, but they have also gone to lengths to make sure we can't extract the key to decrypt these new exports like we can with the desktop DB. this means pioneer is making it harder for DJs to own their data and use it however they like. the XML export kind of sucks and is missing a ton of data, like "My Tag".
With two databases now on the usb does this double the size of the database, as ive now run out of storage to add tracks when the was 30gb left on my usb before the update, great video
Just purchased a new rx3 and downloaded rekordbox which has device libary and device library plus as standard no choice in this. Alls working great . I just wondered if i now load usb into cdj3000 in club will there be an issue with my playlists, cue points, track order ect? If so what are the actual steps to make it all work when using on different system? I Have a gig coming up and obv want to avoid any problems in advance! Thanks
Hello, thanks for the great video. I still have an issue with the import. My data is being changed under the old database on the USB stick because my XDJ1000 doesn't support the new one. When I synchronize it with Rekordbox 6.8.2, the CUE points are transferred to Rekordbox, but the ratings are not. Any idea why? Greetings

Interesting...I tend to use the Mixon 8 at home for personal use and use the RX3 at work and also CdJ3000s ocasionally. It seems like serato has been the most integrated software to be able to use on different hardware. So, it seems like we would have to run the tracks through Rekord box in order to use the newest Pioneer gear?
You've always had to run your tracks through Rekordbox to use on Pioneer DJ standalone gear without a laptop, at least, to use properly on it. So in that sense nothing has changed.

Sites like soundiiiz.com let you export lists of tracks from streaming services, and I have seen services that let you add to, say, Beatport carts - but I cannot remember exactly where!
An absolute nightmare!! Ive had to revert back to 6.8.0 as neither my xdj rx OR my xdj xz could read my USB's. pioneer have being outstanding vague on explain this new update, and the ramifications its caused. i'll wait, and advise others to wait until a newer version is out and any bugs are fixed. Thanks for explaining all this, you did what pioneer should have done from the start. Bad communication from pioneer big time. Very very disappointed by them.
Denon can analyze on the spot, has multiple WiFi streaming services, dual decks and Stems coming soon! Now the CDJ 3000’s are outdated? 🤦🏾♂️ Pioneer just shouldn’t upgrade unless they have the basic features denon comes with!
Both technologies are incredible, it's really tinkering in paradise to be honest - for doing anything a DJ could want to do day-to-day I'd be more than happy to use either.
Replied to the other comment but I'll answer here too. They "couldn't replicate" the problem. Fixed a few playlists with tracks missing their file link. Export is working again. @@digitaldjtips
I put all my playlists into device library plus, just went to pirate studios and it used the old device library. Was missing 3/4 of my tunes, as someone who’s mainly a vinyl DJ it really annoyed me. You don’t get this with a 1210 😂
Obviously it was necessary to make a other database type. Result is a slow syncing process to bad. Would be great if they would make other things possible like fir instance change the order in tracks. Standard it is title artist. Would be great to change the view without picture of the album and the possibility to set view with first artist followed with trackname. Alligns more with windows which we ise for ages and for the older djs amongst us who started digital djing with for instance bpm studio.
Pioneer didn;t do a very good job explaining this in their update notes. They need to inform the user how much data this new feature uses as well as the fact that it doesn't interfere with already current funcionality.
This seems like a first move in phasing out the old library system... I wonder how many years it will take before the CDJ3000s are not supported anymore
considering that the first USB CDJ, the CDJ-2000 from 2009, is still supported with the latest rekordbox, you can count on support for at least 15 years, which for the 3000 means 2020 + 15 = 2035. that's optimistic and i can definitely see rekordbox making the old library format an opt-in config option when most devices in the field use the new format. and honestly i'd even be fine if the newest rekordbox version at some point stops supporting the old format - as long as there is a supported older version that can still produce those old library exports so that these devices don't get turned into waste.
I hope Pioneer will fuck it up even more so they finally lose their market dominance. Just on Saturday the XDJ in the club couldn't read my Rekordbox formatted USB stick and I could not for the hell of it make it work, while my Denon Players at home just recognized it as a Rekordbox stick. What a joke.
What are u talking about Pioneer dominance has never been stronger, truth is Pioneer operates like apple where Denon is like an android yes you might get a couple of cool new experimental features on Denon but in the end all there really doing is the R&D Work for Pioneer. That being said Denon can’t even get a first party HID mode software up and running u have to use seroto which is the worst by far. Last Denon will never over take Pioneer because of the U.S market in the States every dj runs Pioneer u will maybe find 1 in a hundred DJs that own non pioneer gear U go into any dj gear store and u see Denon fully stocked and Pioneer on back order
@@paulvass7516 i am not denying that pioneer has the market dominance. but in my opinion it is because their products are in every club, so everybody kind of has to use it. i owned both pioneer and denon products and denon products are much more capable nowadays, just better products in every sense. pioneer oviously makes software that can not even format a usb stick to be read in their own products...
This is Pioneer..!..so I WOULDN'T expect them to update the CDJ3000 to this new library. Why? Because its a typical Pioneer trate that a soon as a new piece of gear is released, they stop all updates to any previous gear released. Look how quickly the XDJ-RX3 is now classed as old tech now that the Quad has been released. Bet there hasn't been a RX3 update since the Quad was even announced. They've been doing it for almost decades now as they simply just want your money, and expect EVERYONE to go out & buy the latest gear as soon as its released. Call me pessimistic but I'm speaking from decade's of experience. If they do it - great - but if they don't....then don't be surprised folks

Yes, you can certainly understand why they've done this, but the crossover will inevitably create the issues we've outlined for a while anyway.

The tech is there to help but you’re right we need to get past it to do the job
Rekordbox enslaves you into a data entry person, typing in tags, choosing colours, making cue points. And now they want you to do it twice

Since the update on rekordbox my USB’s don’t work on my xdjrr they work on my mates cdj3000 emailed rekordbox and pioneer not had anything back

It's so that more modern powerful gear can do more - an updated database has to be part of that (the old way was just that - old).

If you have RB6 up to date, then no, it should have worked fine.

you need to follow the instructions exactly if you're using equipment that relies on both libraries, agreed it is a bit of a mess.

go to the preferences in Rekordbox and make sure it is set to put both device libraries onto your USB stick

RX3 and CDJ-3000 both use the same version of the library so you will not have issues.

So now there's double the amount of memory from 2 databases and we cant change it even though 99.9 percent of us dont use an Opus Quad?
The amount of extra space it takes is negligible
i can export my music to usb now for 30 mins. the older version just takes 3-5 mins. this is so frustrating

This has happened. Only the Opus Quad uses the new database, RX3 will continue to use the old one.

Both technologies are incredible, it's really tinkering in paradise to be honest - for doing anything a DJ could want to do day-to-day I'd be more than happy to use either.

I hope they bring this to their other products currently selling (FLX, XDJ-RR and up). Now it's only OPUS. Not even CDJ3000.

6.8.1 broke all syncing to USBs. Filed a ticket and they’re “working on it”. Me a dozen other users on the Pioneer forums.

Replied to the other comment but I'll answer here too. They "couldn't replicate" the problem. Fixed a few playlists with tracks missing their file link. Export is working again. @@digitaldjtips
I put all my playlists into device library plus, just went to pirate studios and it used the old device library. Was missing 3/4 of my tunes, as someone who’s mainly a vinyl DJ it really annoyed me. You don’t get this with a 1210 😂
Obviously it was necessary to make a other database type. Result is a slow syncing process to bad.
Would be great if they would make other things possible like fir instance change the order in tracks. Standard it is title artist. Would be great to change the view without picture of the album and the possibility to set view with first artist followed with trackname. Alligns more with windows which we ise for ages and for the older djs amongst us who started digital djing with for instance bpm studio.

Pioneer didn;t do a very good job explaining this in their update notes. They need to inform the user how much data this new feature uses as well as the fact that it doesn't interfere with already current funcionality.

An interesting question. It is not hard to have both libraries available though, so can't see that happening.
considering that the first USB CDJ, the CDJ-2000 from 2009, is still supported with the latest rekordbox, you can count on support for at least 15 years, which for the 3000 means 2020 + 15 = 2035.
that's optimistic and i can definitely see rekordbox making the old library format an opt-in config option when most devices in the field use the new format.
and honestly i'd even be fine if the newest rekordbox version at some point stops supporting the old format - as long as there is a supported older version that can still produce those old library exports so that these devices don't get turned into waste.

I hope Pioneer will fuck it up even more so they finally lose their market dominance. Just on Saturday the XDJ in the club couldn't read my Rekordbox formatted USB stick and I could not for the hell of it make it work, while my Denon Players at home just recognized it as a Rekordbox stick. What a joke.

What are u talking about Pioneer dominance has never been stronger, truth is Pioneer operates like apple where Denon is like an android yes you might get a couple of cool new experimental features on Denon but in the end all there really doing is the R&D Work for Pioneer. That being said Denon can’t even get a first party HID mode software up and running u have to use seroto which is the worst by far. Last Denon will never over take Pioneer because of the U.S market in the States every dj runs Pioneer u will maybe find 1 in a hundred DJs that own non pioneer gear U go into any dj gear store and u see Denon fully stocked and Pioneer on back order
@@paulvass7516 i am not denying that pioneer has the market dominance. but in my opinion it is because their products are in every club, so everybody kind of has to use it. i owned both pioneer and denon products and denon products are much more capable nowadays, just better products in every sense. pioneer oviously makes software that can not even format a usb stick to be read in their own products...
To be fair the 3000’s are out of date😂 they released 4 years ago… and when they did they weren’t much of an upgrade from cdj 2000’s

This is Pioneer..!..so I WOULDN'T expect them to update the CDJ3000 to this new library. Why? Because its a typical Pioneer trate that a soon as a new piece of gear is released, they stop all updates to any previous gear released. Look how quickly the XDJ-RX3 is now classed as old tech now that the Quad has been released. Bet there hasn't been a RX3 update since the Quad was even announced. They've been doing it for almost decades now as they simply just want your money, and expect EVERYONE to go out & buy the latest gear as soon as its released. Call me pessimistic but I'm speaking from decade's of experience. If they do it - great - but if they don't....then don't be surprised folks
