Nobody swears by Rekordbox . Everyone hates it. They just dont have a choice . Think about it this way . The CDJ and DJM is standard. So if you a touring DJ and Festival dj . You are most likely to get those decks and to play on those decks with eaze , you have to use rekordbox. Pioneer purposefully bottle necks any use of any software with there hardware , even serato runs terribly compared to rekordbox dj on CDJ . Every dj that i know , hates Rekorbox and Rekordbox DJ .

I have zero issues with it. I love working in it just the free version. It's hooked up to a decent desktop. I'm a controller dj DJ though. So I can't comment on the status of using it with pro gear.,but the DJs I see using it don't seem to have any issues with it. I just cannot trust it to accurately identify the key especially with isovox so I use paid software that works more accurately for that

I use all four major brands of DJ software Rekordbox DJ, Virtual DJ, Serato, and Traktor. I work for a company doing A/V, Event Production, and I DJ independently. I never wanted to be stuck with an unfamiliar piece of gear in front of me or without a solution to use that gear. I also own gear that works with all of those. I'm a problem solver and troubleshooter. When I hang up my DJ hat I can still use my knowledge to help others.

I justed started my journey with rekordbox in 2021 with the DDJ-400 like the classic beginner setup. Before I got my first controller I wanted to get Serato, but everyone said to me "buy a pioneer controller they are the standard" so I bought a Pioneer Controller and the cheap ones come with rekordbox. First it wasn't that intuitiv but I worked my self into rekordbox and now I don't want to change anymore because I like the many features and clean look that rekordbox has

VDJ is great to use but very noisy. I've been using it for years and before stems it worked perfectly. After Stems I had to upgrade to a gamer style computer with an rtx graphics card and fully purchased the software. Then the noises started. I have rebooted clean and still get crackling and pops. I have reached out to them and they send me a list of things to change and tweak. I still get noises. Does any other software have this issue?

    • @_P_M_
      @_P_M_ 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@luketerare6322 Not sure. It sounds like a latency issue, or perhaps you're using the wrong driver. I haven't had this problem with VDJ, but I have had it with some DAW's and it is usually corrected by adjusting a buffer setting. Otherwise, make sure you have the right driver for your controller. I once had sound issues with a borrowed controller at a gig and was surprised to find that even though I had the correct controller map selected I using a set of audio drivers for my regular controller.

I have used most DJ software. Djay pro is my current favourite due to the versatility and options. Also that you get the desktop, phone and ipad /tablet versions thrown in with an inexpensive subscription.
On top of that the apple Music subscription is a big attraction for many. Seeing a lot of people online saying they are trying it or switching especially from Serato. Especially with the latest Djay hardware compatibility updates to support more equipment.
Engine I use on my controller too. It's great as a stand alone unit. Denon really need to up their game on this though but free updates is a huge bonus.
I used Traktor for a number of years and still have a lot of their units. Was happy to finally see Traktor 4 released though it's still behind in many ways.
For a few years after Traktor I used Serato but felt a bit limited by it and couldn't really get comfortable with it. In many ways felt like a backwards step from Traktor.

Former Traktor user here. This description of "forcing DJs into the Rekrodbox ecosystem" exactly matches my experience!
Initially I was a Traktor user and I had my entire collection analyzed there. My first home gear was the Pioneer DDJ-T1 controller (I wanted something that has 4 channels and has a very close layout to real CDJs). It was all good for a few years but things changed when I started getting more and more gigs - organizers and club owners always use Pioneer CDJs. I ended up in a situation where I had to install Rekordbox on my PC and before gigs I would go through the painful process of importing new tracks to the Rekordbox library. This resulted in a double work - re-analyzing and adjusting tracks that I've already analyzed in Traktor.
So in 2020 I finally gave up and made the decision to switch to the Rekordbox ecosystem. I sold my Pioneer DDJ-T1 (probably the last Pioneer controller to support Traktor) and bought a DDJ-RX (again following my original requirements), which I replaced with a DDJ-1000 2 years later. So my home setup is very close to a club setup of Pioneer CDJs and a mixer, AND Rekordbox library. Before a gig I just open Rekordbox and export whatever I need to my USB stick and call it a day. A friend of mine once said that Pioneer are Apple for DJs 😂

I started with Traktor with the S4mk1 like 11 years ago from my bedroom. Then, I moved to Serato after upgrading to the DDJ-SX. For the last 4, I have mostly been Rekordbox because I do gigs here and there using cdjs and I recently bought a DDJ FLX10. Its a hobby for me and I don’t scratch, so having all my playlists, analyzed tracks, cue points, etc in one platform is super convenient for me.

I just chose a Denon Prime 4+ to replace my old Vestax VCI400. no need to buy a laptop meant I could do gigs when needed and not outlay for a laptop that was good enough on top of the price of Pioneer Or whatever dumb name they want to be known as now.
Stems will be worked out soon on Engine DJ I bet. I tried the beta, its not bad, but I wouldn't rely on it for a paying gig yet. And since I make my own music, making stems is easy in Serato or even Ableton.

    Started with a DDJ-400 2021 & recently snagged a FLX10 this March.
I’m an open-format Club/Private event DJ so I’ve cemented my skills in those type of environments.
The majority of my peers have been in the game for over a decade & are Serato users.
I’ve personally played on both Serato & RB & the million dollar reason why I stay with RB, is the track preview function. I don’t need to load & cue up a song onto a deck to preview it. I can do that from the library itself.
I would definitely consider switching to Serato JUST for that very reason, it just optimizes my workflow.
They’re both just tools to get the job done to me & most, if not all listeners in the audience don’t give af what software you use aslong as you’re good 😂

This was a great video. I've been deep into Traktor since 2006, and all the controllers I've had throughout the years were tied to it. Love the deep mapping capabilities and stuff like remix decks. Used S4 MK3, 2 Allen Heath K2's, and 2 two F1 Kontrols. However, I've been wanting to get back into the clubs so getting into pioneer was a must. I know I can go into HID mode, but part of me wanted to go straight USB only.
Deciding to get 2 CDJ 3000s and a DJM V10. Hoping to use HID at home when I want to use my cool features, but go into stand alone mode when I want to get ready to go play in a club that may have that gear. You're spot on saying the hardware market share helps drive DJs to its software, even if it's just for prep using stand alone. Appreciate your video!

I believe one of the reasons is because many beginner DJs aspire to one day play at clubs and bars, and know that Pioneer is ubiquitous in that space. It’s a comfort knowing that if you start your DJ journey using software that dominates the club scene, if you ever want to make that transition (no pun) it’s likely to be much easier if you’ve used Rekordbox from the start.
Personally, I moved away from RB for several reasons, which include:
    -Stability issues.
    -Regular freezes, won’t load tracks
-inability to recover from internet drops without spazzing out.
    -Long start up times
-Failure in portable scenarios (I can’t get RB to work properly between my DDJ-FLX4 and iPad for example).
    -Inadequate STEMs.
For these reasons, I moved to Serato DJ Pro and while it’s not perfect either (an extra $10/month for key shift… seriously?), I don’t have any of the stability issues I have with RB and the STEMs are way ahead.

Mixxx for the win! It will never be able to compete with these industry giants because it will always be years behind feature wise. But as most DJ never will become pro it is a good choice for every beginner and intermediate level DJ. You can do solid and advanced mixing. It is the only program where you can actually contribute yourself. Controller not supported in Recordbox? Tough luck! In mixxx you can colaborate with others to make it work!

My true store about my first encounter with Rekordbox.. The BPM show in the UK 2016. Went to look at it on the pioneer stand. It was running on a pc and it crashed to bluescreen within 30 seconds of me getting my hands on it. The guys on the booth were not impressed neither was I.
It's come along way and with pioneermarket dominance at 72% it's hardly surprising. People buy it for 'it standard' tag. I choose to move away from standard as I prefer more creative options. Always wanting to see the industry move forward.

I have denon and pioneer equipment, have also owned tractor equipment and DJ pro. Despite having the most professional and “coolest” look, the thing I like most about rekordbox is its organization and tagging system. Djing in a live situation, being able to filter on the fly with custom tags I’ve organized by mood and energy level instead of fixed playlists is critical for timing and playing the best song I want to maintain the right atmosphere. RB is the best for that, Engine DJ is close with some workarounds - it should be a priority for them to fix imo and then my Denons would probably win. Denon’s continued support of their equipment providing free upgrades is something I’ve come to value highly with manufacturers - my Pioneer gear is what it is for all time.
Can’t speak for Serato, never used it.

Ask SC3900 owners how they feel about that "continued support" when Denon made the new version of Engine that didn't support them, and forced anyone using them to switch to something else because the old version of Engine was so broken. I still use my SC3900s for DVS, at first with Traktor, but now with Rekordbox so that I can actually export to use with Pioneer equipment in the rare instance where I leave my studio.

And if i do wanna play at at friend i just transfer my Traktor playlist to Rekordbox.
With this setup i also dont have to buy a bigger controller yet, the DVS vinyl and jogwheels can be used this way with Traktor. (while the FLX4 not is being promoted as to work with vinyl or Traktor)
And as coming from vinyl it seems the FLX4 is an easy beginner to master a controller and Rekordbox, win win!

I am not an expert on each software to recommend a specific one but, in my 15 years of DJ experience and imo, Pioneer is the leader on DJ hardware and Serato the leader on DJ software. All businesses want more market so Pionner decide to take more market on software almost forcing customers to switch if we are using their equipment, imagine Serato creating their own CDJ’s or controllers. That will be interesting and I believe many DJs will be interested on trying.
Serato is great creating hardware, now anyone can buy a cheap controller to start their DJ journey, to something really expensive that many DJ’s appreciate on big stages if you are a pro.
Same with Serato you have the option for Serato DJ lite for beginners to Serato pro if you are ready to pay for a complete dedicated software.
Now days new DJs had to many options to choose from that I feel old 😅 I am open to try new stuff of course and I did in the past but, my choice still will be Pionner for hardware and
    Serato for software.

Nice video. Great experience based run. If RB could hire a UI/UX designer & get their responsive issues sorted they could lock it up. But….might be why they/Alpha Theta bought Serato? Algoriddim djay is quickly gaining ground, and if they don’t come out on top, they will likely be cloned as they seem to be the only remaining product that cares about the original UI/UX point. Keep the party rocking 🤙🏽😎🖤🕺🔊

Engine DJ deserves more credit, it wasn't great on launch but has since been massively improved. Also it is compatible/featured on a lot of different controllers and players not just Denon but all inMusic brands, including Numark, Stanton and Rane.
Having switched from Recordbox to Engine a few years ago I would say it's equally as good and the Denon hardware is equal to or better than the Pioneer hardware and most definitely better value.
The only reason to use Recordbox is because nearly every venue has Pioneer players, I have an advantage of owning my own venue so can pretty much install what I like! 😋

Part of the reason people use rekordbox is because of videos like this, which default to discussing the so-called “industry standard” as a proxy for “best.” The “industry standard” in DJing is based upon what clubs place in DJ booths for professionals. The fact is that non-professional DJs exponentially outnumber professional DJs. Many of us are as into spinning now as we were when we were teenagers and may never get (back) into a club or festival. Given this, why not talk about what is the best software package for managing your music collection generally, and then the best software to for managing your music collection while DJing? This whole notion of defaulting to “industry standard” in these discussions reinforces the notion that some software is the “only” choice when it isn’t or shouldn’t be.

Im a Vdj user who hv tried rekordbox serato and djay. Pros and cons in them all as i love the quality of the fx on rekordbox, but the stems are really weak. The library management is great, but in vdj the advantage is i can move, copy, rename or delete a file directly on the file itself without having to create a playlist or crate. To me the quality of stems are the cleanest as well. Versatility on hardware and integration is unmatched in vdj.. so im safe.

Rekordbox needs a lot of work. When it comes to Spanish music like cumbias, merengue etc. its horrible when it comes to analyzing music. The bpm are horrible, I don't have time to go on every single track fixing the grid. Engine prime analyze better. Serato, virtual dj, traktor and even algoriddim I don't have a problem. I use Serato, traktor, and algoriddim because when it comes to analyzing my Spanish music it does a better job then rekordbox. When it comes to house EDM stuff like that rekordbox does a good job. But most of my gigs I play a lot of Spanish music. So that's why I don't use rekordbox to any of my gigs.

Started with DJay, then moved to Serato, once the DDJ1000 came out, I moved to Rekordbox. Own a Denon Prime Go and Rekordbox can be easily exported. Stems are the weakest for sure, so as a mobile DJ I bought the DDJRev5 to use Djay or Serato with better stems. I'm an open format DJ so no real preference in software but for now, Rekordbox shall remain my core software and library manager. Changing software is a bit of a pain. Serato analyzes tracks better than Rekordbox and many mobile DJs rave about VDJ. Use what works for you and your environment.

For me it always was important to use a mixed setup of sound-devices and none of the software-versions that came with the controller was able to do that. Not even in the pro-versions because it is bound to that hardware. Traktor was able to do that long time ago but not any more, and Mixvibes as well. So the open-source software Mixxx can do it but is not so intuitive.
And for sure i don't want to pay monthly ... so i ended up with VirtualDJ separately bought and that works fine with my hardware and is intuitive. For me, as a DJ in VR, there is no need for any club-standard.

I feel like this is clickbait - if Rekordbox topped the poll it was ONLY because people have to use it prep USB drives for CDJs, XDJs, etc. I've NEVER seen anyone using Rekordbox for performance out in the wild, it is Serato 98% of the time with the occasional Traktor user.

I bough virtual dj bc it was the only one that you can pay once and get free updates. I find great value in the virtual dj script that allow you to map your controller with basically anything. Even though it's a pain in the ass because of the lack of keywords (you can't do OR tests, you're forced to chain AND tests for this like wtf?), if you spend enough time, you'll be able to make whatever you want with any midi controllers. For example i made my launchpad light different ways according to the slicer position to create a small animation that sync automatically to the tempo. Idk if there is something similar in other softwares

I really REALLY dislike the UI for Rekordbox and prefer Traktor's. VirtualDJ seems HUGE on my ultrawide monitor for no apparent reason and doesn't seem to have an option to make it smaller. But hey, I only play at home so I can flip between whatever I prefer.

I’ve had about 13 years out - having kids. But I was a Traktor user, at the time it was THE platform to use. Everyone used it, at least with house and tech. What the hell happened? It’s so strange to see this. Record box was just a file management tool for USB sticks and track inventory. Makes sense for them to evolve it and clearly they have the hardware market still, never a doubt. But is it actually any good? I wouldn’t mind getting a controller and starting to play again but it’s like the world has changed in ways.

I used Traktor for over a decade, mainly because they were the only ones in the DJ software space in the beginning. About four years ago, I switched to Rekordbox when I upgraded my gear from the original Kontrol S4 to the DJJ1000.
Lately, it’s been a bit frustrating to see other software roll out features more effectively than Rekordbox (looking at you, stems). Plus, the constant push to buy a subscription is annoying. However, I do understand-and almost appreciate-why Rekordbox takes its time with new features. The combination of their hardware and software has been rock-solid for me, and I’ll always prioritize stability over new features. After all, stems won't matter if my software crashes during a live set.

Biggest intellectual value a DJ can have besides the files, are the tags. Tags = navigating in your musical database = good selection = most of the work a DJ can do. + it's way too individual that any ai system could figure it out. How the heck is Rekordbox going to fit into this game? It's easy: it doesn't. When you have your tags written in the comment section of the file, it can be shared between different softwares, except Rekordbox. Like I can toggle between Serato and Engine DJ and I can take my second biggest intellectual property with me. Rekordbox has their own system for tags because they've always felt superior to others and now ..great luck with that. Let them be superior by themselves. I have my choice for something else.
