HOLY CRAP, THIS IS AN **AWESOME TUTORIAL**!!! VERY, VERY STRAIGHTFORWARD, STEP-BY-STEP [ K-I-S-S method ] instruction and guidance!!! Offering viewers opportunity to learn MORE, by offering links to other sites!!! VERY, VERY **VERRRRY COOL**!!!!! THANK YOU, Howard Pinskey!!!!!!
Thank you so much. I knew how to use layer styles, but I was never taught how to apply them correctly. Thank you so much for a very professional tutorial.
I'm watching this tutorial for the 4th time, I love it! I got different picture every time, I'm just trying new ways and other colors, and this is the best tut I've ever seen.
By far the best tutorial I have ever seen! I have learned sooo much from this. You kept it simple, you explained everything and didn't assume that we already knew how to do something. And you didn't sound rushed! Very nice job!!!
There is an easyer way to make stars. if you would like to try it it goes like this: filter >> noise >> add noise and then set the amount to - 400 \ gaussian \ monochromatic the add a gaussian blur at radius of 1.0 then open the Levels Window by pressing Ctrl + L set the black to location of 205 and the white to location of 211 i learned that for BlueLightningTV and i think it is tn easyer way to make stars.
The great thing about your tutorials is that I can apply elements of it to other completely different projects. For example, I now would think to use spherize on circles to give it some depth
Great! If only you'd made this video a year ago. I had to make a space scene, and I had to go through hours and hours of tutorials. You nailed it in 10 mins!
For those running CS6 and having trouble spherizing the texture, I figured it out by playing around a bit. First Control or Command click the Ellipse thumbnail as he suggests. THEN click on your planet texture layer before selecting filters/spherize. Yeah, I was having trouble trying to follow along with the same settings until I got here and realized through the threads that he's using CS5. Good stuff so far!
@shreder94 Try starting the brush from scratch. Select the Brush Tool, choose a standard soft brush, then adjust the settings in the Brush Panel. You might be stuck on a custom brush already.
@TutorialSolution987 Did you make sure to turn the planet into a selection? Are you adding that spot on a new layer? Is that new layer under the texture layer?
+Wes Ha ll Sorry, I have to disagree. there were steps missing and for us novices were left scratching our heads. there are better and much more thorough ones out there. That said generally it was good but he needs to include every step and not miss any.
Great video man! Quick question. I'm working with a much bigger canvas for a bigger scene, is there a way to make the stars smaller so when I turn up the brush size I don't get huge dots?
awesome, but would love it if there was a "slower" version of this lesson. Fun to go along and try to do it myself but had to stop /start too many times and some steps were either assumed or left out. You are very talented Mr Pinsky! Maybe this is not for beginners, but I almost had it! Thank you for sharing!
Hey, Amazing Tute, could you tell me what screen capture software you use? I like the zoom feature but my software doesn't seem to have that, Would really appreciate you telling!! Keep up the great work! Thanks.
Great tutorial! Before this I was using noise and levels adjustments to create starfields. Its a lot faster, but I can control the effect better with a custom brush. Thanks for the tip :D
Aaaaaaah. I've been using another, apparently very unnecessarily complex technique, to create stars and planets in Photoshop. Good to know there's an easier method of doing it!
Thanks for this vid! Had to do a lot of pausing to keep up, but still a great vid! Took me a minute to find out how to change levels on CS6 but that was my only hang up! Looking forward to more tutorials!
IceFlowStudios, a Lens Flare would look better than just a white colored brush spot(in my opinion). It has its own light streaks coming out of it. It really looks like a star about to round the edge of a planet.
I'm developing a game called Space Tunnel. What a coincidence that you made a tutorial that suits my project so perfectly! Thank you for this great episode! :)
Great tutorial! I'm a big fan of your videos! For a future little idea I know I would like to see a video or article about the different blend modes (color dodge, linear burn, lighten, etc) I've never truly understood what all of them mean or do specifically, just played with them and see what looks good.
@shreder94 Check to make sure your brush is 0% hardness. If that still doesn't work, try it without modifying the Flow Jitter. You'll probably get similar results.
