Creating a starfield in Photoshop

- With some interstellar clouds and stuff… Just a quick test. :)
Edit: This was never meant as a proper tutorial, it was a supplement to a discussion elsewhere. There is no audio-track describing in detail what I do and why, so don't try to follow this step-by-step if you are a beginner. The exact values I use for my adjustments can also not be re-used directly (due to me using a linear gamma for blending in this video); you will have to find your own values by eye (like I did). For these types of documents that might contain large smooth gradients and several layers/adjustments blending together I recommend 16-bits per channel to avoid banding.

Awesome tutorial... It really does deserve audio, but playing it at 0.25 full screen was helpful... Lot's of cool tips and options... I'll def keep checking back...

Hey! Currently stuck making the clouds! I don't seem to have the Clouds in render!?
Sounds like clouds.8bf might be missing? Try reinstalling Photoshop from the Adobe CC Desktop app.
If your copy of Photoshop was NOT installed using the official installer, but is some shady cracked copy you have downloaded, that is likely the issue. Install it properly (you can crack it after installing it as a trial if you need to pirate it).
1:35...this part does not work for me.
I Ctrl-click the RGB-"channel" to load it as a selection. (Cmd-click if on OS X).
There is also a button you can use at the bottom.
Sorry for not making it clear in the video, it was just a quick recording due to a reddit thread so I didn't spend time thoroughly explaining everything.
Note, the video isn't a fixed recipe - it was made up almost as I went along. Experiment with variations, and add your own touches! :)

What would have been nice would be to include......an audio portion! Seeing is one thing but explaining what you are doing will make it much easier to understand. Besides a person can't see what you are doing to the layers. No description. Sorry...thumbs down.
This tutorial should be self explanatory for basic to intermediate users of Photoshop, no need to thumbs down the guy.
I made it! I have a few doubts but read the comments helps me a lot. I have cs3 and I can´t realize the adjustment that you made at the end (with the clouds, fade etc) but I have a beautiful galaxy! it was so easy to follow. Thank you!

Learned a lot, mine came out just fine. CTRL click the RGB channel... the layer mask all of a sudden was made of stars.... who knew?
I'm begginer in PS but Ive done all steps until 4:17, I put the color but when I tried to do the nebulous brush, it went white color, even if I change it. do you know why?

I'm sure I followed all your steps but to enjoy the minute and second 4:15 I lost because the nebulae do not come out as I saw in the video if not a normal color made flat or if it is a nebulous brush equal this tutorial is good For the clear realism the voice is missing but I want to make a work of art myself, do you explain?

Santiago Duque It is a normal round brush. The shape comes from the cloud layer blended on top. Note that you might want to use different values, as I was using linear gamma when working on this file.
1:41 after making my solid the fill is still white?

Andrew Ingram Not sure what you mean. Timecode? I see that at some point I do load stars as a selection, then add a solid color (the selection turn into a mask). Is that what you were confused about?

NinaLuna Loenborg NinaLuna Loenborg - I used a normal soft round brush. Very low flow. Nothing else. The cloudiness comes from the layer above it.

Raj Kumar Kesar Doesn't really matter. I am using old and very basic features. In the video it was CS6 as you can see at the top of the screen.
