    0:43 Eh?! WTF was up with the WI batting order? Laurence Rowe at 8, Clive Lloyd at 9? I mean if you think Rowe wouldn't be a fast enough scorer then you shouldn't play him at all.... weird.

      @chrisrussell5690 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I noticed watching some other old odi's that Clive often went down the order. Sometimes he'd be on the sheet as coming in 4 or 5 but others would keep coming in. Maybe he didn't rate ODI's? Maybe it was the first steps of succession planning? I do remember him sitting out a few B&H games a season and Viv captaining from about this time onward.

      No, I think the top order batted most of the overs and got out with not many overs left, so with not many balls remaining Lloyd just put in Garner and Robert's to slug away.

    • @benedictcowell6547

      Yes! The cricket was so good it did not need coloured pyjamas, pop music and commercial gimmicks. The commercialisation of sport for the trivial media did immense damage. The BBC and ITV should have had exclusive coverage of the sporting calendar. Nothing has doe as much harm to sport as the Skye Murdoch era but then Murdoch has been more disastrous for civilisation than the Barbarian Invasions. Alaric had more respect for civilisation and Culture than that vulgar, ignorant, Australian and the entire media circus. I can remember John Arlott's description of the dismissal of Bradman. by Hollies in 1948. No hysteria, no ecstasy, just Bradman bowled Hollies 0. The West Indian sides under between 1973 and 1985 must have been the finest sides ever to take the field. I learned with sadness of the death of Malcolm Marshall and Roy Fredericks.. Quite the most remarkable innings in my experience was Greenidge at lords in 1984. Together with Gomes it is the most remarkable victory of any side ever. To win by 8 wickets chasing a total of 350+. The irony of this was underlined by one of the pundits who said England could win f they got Richards cheaply but Richards, did not have to bat. I still think Greenidge's innings on that occasion s quite the greatest performance by any batsman in any epoch.

    I never saw any of these matches. We only had 2 channels where I lived and the commercial station didn't show any of these games, so I had to listen on radio. I remember that England refused to play in anything but plain white. They also refused to play with any field restrictions which meant that they had all their fielders on the boundary at the end of some innings, even the wicketkeeper.

      You’re right about the whites, however, woefully wrong with the field restrictions because in 1979 there were none. Field restrictions in one day limited overs cricket came in during the 1980s. Before criticising England learn your facts.

    • @ianharkin2691
      @ianharkin2691 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vantheman1238 I know there were no field restrictions in 1979. That's because the England board rejected them! But field restrictions were introduced the very next season and it was largely because of the incident I mentioned. On Nov 28, 1979, West Indies needed 3 runs off the last ball to win and England captain Mike Brearley put every single fielder on the boundary including the wicketkeeper.
