      @Ayush Singh Bradman never faced pace like Lillee, Thompson, Holding, Wes Hall, Andy Roberts....
      But those old school bowlers that Bradman faced on perfect batting wickets did bowl text book line and length and many were expert swing bowlers.
      Not many good swing bowlers today, but when the ball does swing, today’s batsmen look like children.

      Sure, Great people always make things look easy in all fields. Viv can hit a ball pitched outside off stump go in atleast 3 different directions. Mind you the bowler was Lillee, the engine that generates pace out of the pitch. It was stroke play. Tendulkar, Virat have the great comfort of playing half of their carreer in slow Indian pitches - no comparison. Atleast Tendulkar (played more for stat) was though better of the two offering great shots in the cover direction even in paced pitches.

    Over the years, Australia have produced some world-class test match bowlers. And yet in spite of bowlers like Glen McGrath, Mitchell Johnson, along with their current crop of pace bowlers, in my opinion Dennis Lillee is the best Australian fast bowler I have ever ever seen. He could have got into an Australian test side in any generation. And I am a pom saying this !

  • @whouster
    @whouster 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Fabulous stuff. Lillee v Richards - the best against the best. Usually when Sir Viv got past 50, you could only pray that he'd get too casual and give his wicket away. One of the rare occasions where Viv was actually got out when in full swing, and only very special bowlers like Dennis Lillee were capable of doing that. If you could choose any bowler to bowl against any batsman, look no further.

    Each era has its own legendary batsman/bowler duel... the 1880s had Grace/Spofforth... the 1930s had Bradman/Verity... the 1990s had Tendulkar/Warne... and the 1970s had Viv Richards v. Dennis Lillee 🔥

Test match at its best. ❤

    I remember Colin Croft saying recently that the West Indies batsmen were never really under pressure in a test match because they knew they'd win because it was rare for an opposition to make over 200 against that bowling line up. Some may remember the first test in England in 1984 when Bob Willis declared and left them 343 to get on the last day. They only lost one wicket in the chase! Anyone watching them during this era would laugh at the current teams being ranked as the No 1 test side now. Wouldn't get near this mob! DK Lillee was the key factor in Australia not being humiliated every time they went out against them. His 4/10 in the last session against them on Boxing Day 1981 is one of the greatest cricketing performances I've ever seen. Viv Richards bowled middle stump for a duck on the last ball of the day. It was sensational!
