      That is not true . A beaver will keep chewing untill they have it chewed half way all around . Then they start chewing on one side . They will then chew a bit and stop . They will Listen to hear creeking noise . then if none heard then they go back at it . They also know wind directions and the speed . They know also kown the direction of the fallen tree .

    I had a pet Beaver once . I raised him from a baby . When he got older and bigger he started chewing . The first thing went down was my wifes dancing poll . Then one evening he chewed all the legs on our bed . One evening after work and when I got home he had chewed one of the legs on my dinning room chair and I did not know it . I went down like a box of rocks . One time I seen my couch laying on the floor with no legs . The bath tub was full of water and all the parts was damed up on one end . It was time for him to go . Took him to the Zoo . Poor Chester .

      Here in northern Minnesota, I've seen MANY trees that have been only partially felled by beaver because they got hung up in other trees. There are also occasions when a beaver doesn't get out of the way fast enough so it gets caught under its own fallen tree and killed. They definitely have skills and a great work ethic, but they don't always win.

    • @mikesvideosofbeavers
      @mikesvideosofbeavers  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Once the tree falls the beavers will take all the branches for a winter food cache. From a tree branch they will eat the twigs, leaves, new bark, and the cambium (which is the layer of new growth of wood just under the bark). The bare wood left behind will either be used for building material, if needed, or will be left to float away.

  • @JohnDoe-kf7md

    Have you sat around to see how they transfer those big trees 🌲? do they cut them into smaller chunks, just leave it or go get a beaver gang to carry it?
    Also you should leave out a camera somehow to capture the full process from beginning to end of them chopping down a tree and shorten/speed up the video.
    Would make for a cool Timelapse.

    • @movme
      @movme 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The beaver only take what it can eat or move on its own. It eats a lot of the bark as well as some of the leaves and small branches. The bulk of the huge tree trunk is not used because it is far too large for the beaver to move.
      For a huge tree like this, it might take many days - nights, actually - for the beaver to complete felling it. It will leave, perhaps even for a few days to do other things, then come back to continue chewing on the large tree, so in all it can take a long time before the process is finished. And sometimes, for various reasons, the beaver never comes back to finish the job it started. Capturing the full process from beginning to end would be a challenge, especially if there is bad weather.

      No, he could not move a big tree like this. When they are getting ready for winter they take down a big tree and then remove the branches one by one and take the branches back to their pond to make a food cache for winter. And they will cut off manageable chunks of the trunk to drag back as well, and eat all the bark off the large parts they can't move. The tree will be well used.

    What on earth did the beaver do with the tree when it was down...

    • @mikesvideosofbeavers
      @mikesvideosofbeavers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      They take all the branches back to the pond for their food storage, and then eat all the bark off of the main trunk.

      @@mikesvideosofbeavers Thanks. Seems like a lot of work to chew down a large tree to get to the newer bark higher up.... until you realize how easily the beaver chiseled though the tree trunk.
      Curious.... do you recall how long it took the beaver to fall the tree..

      @@mikesvideosofbeavers No problem. Thanks.
      After sending you the first question I looked through some of the other beaver videos and found one where they had cut down a pine tree about 3' thick.
      What had happened once it was down was clear - they had stripped the top 30' of branches and bark, leaving a long white naked wooden section with teeth marks across the section. The 40' balance of the tree had been left intact with bark and branches.
      All the work for the top section.....fascinating.

    • @mikesvideosofbeavers
      @mikesvideosofbeavers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That was the intention. They keep chewing till it falls; and then they take all the branches off of it for food.

      Or they can be part of natural forest management, creating an environment that supports a greater diversity of wildlife. On the other hand, they can also cause troublesome flooding - troublesome at least for humans.
