Beavers are essentially engineers, labourers, planners, swimmers, courageous and dedicated lovers. One spouse for life. She can do everything he can. Truly amazing creatures.
Beavers are so amazing! They must have relatively sophisticated spatial reasoning abilities to move these things around and assemble damns with them? Great video, as always!
People say that beavers avoid humans and don’t come into close contact have never seen Mike’s videos because this female beaver is always around Mike and never minds him filming her. even comes and sniffs his shoes. I don’t know how you do it Mike but I would die of happiness if a beaver was that close to me.
Yes, I have posted hundreds of beaver videos over the last 18 months. Any beaver fans who have stumbled on my channel more recently will need a lot of free time to catch up 😀😀. The funny thing from my perspective is that some of the videos I thought were most unique or interesting hardly received any views and are just sitting there waiting to be watched. Hope you find some you enjoy 👍👍
One of God's wonderful creations right there! Beavers are clever animals. I also love watching Sea Otters crack shells on rocks they pick up and place on their belly while floating on their back.
Hi - I am from Germany and I want to say: your videos about beavers are great! I love these fascinating animals. Unfortunatly in Germany they are not welcome everywhere andoften get hunted. So you can see them almost only in the nighttime.
Lol. She is not resting. She is assessing if you are a threat or not. She is watching you and being careful. It’s pretty amazing that she is deciding you are ok to be there at all. This is a wonderful, special thing. Be happy she likes you. :)
Nah it seems like she's resting. And based on what he said this isn't the first time they've met. Is she was seeing if he was a danger then she wouldn't of felt so safe with her back turned to him. She also seemed to be breathing a little heavy on her breaks. Observation sure is hard 🙄
In this case I am pretty sure she was resting. I hang around her almost every day. Usually if she is threat assessing she sits up a bit and smells the air and looks around. When she has smaller branches she walks right by me usually without stopping. It is only when she has a large load that she seems to stop every ten meters or so for a break. I think a couple of the stops she was just making sure I was no threat but most of the breaks from pulling I would guess from watching her before that she was catching her breath.
did the beaver lady later pull it over that tree? or is "jumping" onto the tree and then grabbing the branch not possible? whatever she did, incredibly hard work
well, it only took me nine months to answer your comment. LOL! Yes, she had to take a few of the branches off first but eventually she got it to fit under the fallen tree and took it all to her pond in a few pieces.
Some ethologists decided a while back that beavers were not intelligent and everything they do is "instinct". I'm just a lay-person, but to that I say......horse hockey! The beaver in this wonderful clip realised the branch was caught up. She stopped, she looked, she pondered. And then she deliberately moved it a set amount of distance in a one particular direction, to free it from the blockage. Then she employed a mild fulcrum to wiggle it free so she could pull it all the way out. That's not instinct. That's the result of cognitive thought processes and the ability to learn and remember.
As busy as a beaver is only part of the story. They are also incredibly strong (for their body weight), incredibly persistent, and very smart. It's too bad that apparently all that work was to no avail since the tree got stuck at the very end of the video. I actually feel sorry for the poor beaver.
I KNOW IN A LOT OF PLACES AROUND THE WORLD GROUND WATER SUPPLYES ARE RUNNING LOW, AND WHEN BEAVERS BUILD DAMS THIS WATER SEEPS DOWN TO THE UNDERGROUND WATER TABLE TO HELP KEEP IT STABLE, I THOUGHT ABOUT THIS WHILE WATCHING THIS VIDEO.
@@mikesvideosofbeavers Ah, that's awesome! I'm sure you can tell them all apart w/ the amount of time you've spent with them. I wonder if they have a name for you as well? ;)

Other than ants, beavers might just be the hardest working animal I can think of.

It's not work if you're doing something you love. Kind of cliche, but true.
You have a wealth of great older videos that I haven't seen yet. Lucky me!

I’m genuinely impressed with the sheer strength of their neck muscles!
A very dedicated beaver!
I wish I had the industrial drive that Beavers have. I'd rule the world, and have no clue cuz I'd still be working.

I wouldn't say "poor". He or she is getting a snack.
@AuBurney Tuckerson they don't eat the tree, they are used to make dams where they hibernate and reproduce
