I was in the right place at the right time to film this wild beaver chewing a chunk off of a fallen tree trunk. I tried to get in very close to provide a real up-close look at how they do this.
I’m not even a beaver but I enjoyed this tutorial.

They basically are; right down to being made of metal! Beavers teeth are reinforced with high levels of iron, which gives them that characteristic orange coating.
On top of that, the iron coating is actually uneven: thicker on the outside edge and thinner on the inside. Because of this, as they chew, their teeth file down unevenly, forming a sharp chisel shape
So they essentially have self sharpening iron chisels for teeth!
More fun facts: like all rodents, their lips can seal behind their exposed teeth, so they can chew without getting anything in their mouths.

A beavers teeth will continue to grow over its lifetime. If they don't chew wood to grind teeth down their teeth will grow to point that they cannot eat.

The sounds of those razor sharp teeth through wood is so relaxing. There are many beavers where I live and I never stop being impressed by their tree felling skills. They just about always gets the tree to fall where they want it to, and that is some serious skill doing that with your teeth. I´ve seen pretty massive trees downed by beavers, and they all fell right into the lake or stream.
Wow he made quick work of that branch and so adorably too. When i worked at a wildlife rescue we had a baby beaver and they make the cutest noises.

well this beaver is quite chill but trust me you wouldnt want to disturb an angry one from his task :D there is i believe documented instance of beaver leaping on mans leg and biting through his thigh and his artery causing him to bleed to death....death by beaver bite...quite harsh
