I would take yours back, may be defective. The clip on mine is tighter than my other clip shuffle and never had or thought I'd lose that one. I think apple thought about that and that's why the clip (on mine) is tight as hell. As far as the buttons, is it realm that diff from what we are use to. This is not diff then the others except there's now another push and hold for playlist. Humm, I think you have a defective one if your clip is that weak.

Apples unboxing experience was pretty neat back then but now is more polished and neat. The headphones on the back would not fly by apples standards today

Its Like Apple is running out of ideas.. First of all, That think is Too Small, if you were to listen to it in your sleep, with one wrong move, it can easily disapper into the Crevasses of your Bed, Never to be seen again.. lol.. The last shuffle was perfect. this shuffle is an Agony to your wallets.. save money and just get the Nano or somethin.. i still have a nano, and im fine with that.. Still The Worst Ipod Ever.

Just get a tapSTICK ade for this shuffle and when earbus break, you can use with other earbuds, tapSTICK have buttons which can let you forward, backward, stop/play button built in, pretty need little accessory for this shuffle, little pricey though $29.99.
i want one, but i wouldnt buy it just cuz theres no buttons... wish i could just review it and touch it to see what it looks like! :D awesome vid, ur the best ! first actual unboxing of the new shuffle, great job!

OK so you said that volume ajustment thing, its already been made, for the sony psp earphones, yea there is that little extra port thing sticking out but, basically is the same, hope that made sense =P

I hope I can disable the Voice Over feature because sometimes I don't want it. I personally think this IPod gadgets are crap and overrated. I would have liked it if it wasn't controlled.
lol! Who are you talking about? Carlos? (As in the guy in the video) Whenever I'd see someone w/ an iPod (whether it be on a Greyhound, at the airport, on an airplane, etc.), I ALWAYS thought the SAME thing-- "That person must have a lot of money and is well off."
Genious! Now if your headphones are broken (which happens in about 1-4 months in case with apple headphones) you have to buy another pair, because new shuffles can't be controlled otherwise. And they cost about a half the price of a new shuffle. Way to go Apple!
apple is more reliable, it's sleeker, it's 'sexier', and it's the name. "Apple".
Regardless of how stupid those reasons are, they still qualify as a reason for Apple to raise the price. And last time i checked, Ipods were for music anyway, so who cares if all you can listen to is music?
polska9784- it would be quite easy. you don't even have to even look at it. it's great for people that don't have eyesight also. how hard can it be to grab your headphone line and click it twice to skip to the next song? I can do that running backwards like I'm sure most people could do.

I like the design of this and I think the clip should be sturdier. I would perfer the bottoms to be on the device itself, but hey it could be more convinient on the headphone depending on the person.
Carlos, I had to get one. I saw your video and tweets about it and then I just had to go to the store and get it. When you said it would go well in the Speck Aftpack that got me thinking and I could see me using it in that way. Thanks Carlos!!
I think the speech thing is more relevant to selecting which playlist you want. If some is going to sit there and try to find a particular song then they bought the wrong ipod. playlist will be your best friend on something like this.
the saddest part about the new iPod shuffle is that u need to use the specific earbuds that comes with it.....u can't use ur own earbuds like SkullCandy or JVC earbuds >=( That sucks cause I luv my SkullCandy earbuds T^T
but when you think of it. people don't use different headphones for shuffles because they are use mostly buy people that jog/exercise. if someone needs controls all they have to do is buy the nano or buy the previous version.
That is amazing! 4 gigs in that little thing along with voice over. That is smaller then a 4 gig flash drive. They have the previous version of the shuffle for $29.00 plus tax for a very short time.

When will apple make one with a screen that shows a clock, tone and bass control, stop watch, song playing and battery life? Creative did it, but its plastic and the sound quality isn't that hot.
I'll have to say. The Shuffle does look cool and small. But feature wise, you'll get bored of it soon. They should of stuck wit the 2G shuffle style and made it thinner with a higher memory capacity.
because of the market the shuffle is selling to. it's made for people that are active run/exercise and this makes it easier for them to access without having to look at the device to change the song.
@cruisin777- The point of the shuffle is to play random songs. No shuffle has ever allowed users to choose a particular song. Apparently however, the new shuffle allows users to select a playlist.
I found one of these today but i can't change songs of it. I thought aslong as the headplones have built in controls it would work but it doesn't. Do i have to buy official earphones now?
@FamilialJORGE The ipod shuffle have a voice control system. So you just hold the earbuds middle button then name your song name then it will automatically find and play the song
u have to control turnning up the volume and changing the songs through the damn headphones! what happens is you lose them -.- 2 out of 5 for this iPod i like the 2n Gen Better

Actually, I have an iPhone and this shuffle. It's really nice and portable. Easy to use and better than getting your iPhone out and using the music on there.
Is that control going to work with other devices as well? like the iphone? doubt it would work as far back as for the nano g3. Anyone knows?

if you use a case the color of the iphone don't matter though. I got the black and still like it 16gb. I don't notice because of the case.
DUH! thats why it costs more, but if you are looking for a simple cheap and good mp3 player this is perfect for you

I'm still using the first gen of ipod shuffle..seriously. It doesn't hold many songs but I like the design of the first gen :)
S - Not a fan that you couldn't control it any other way if you don't have those headphones, but I know my wife would love it!!!
@Cylos01 Hi, I had the 3rd Gen and have use the 4th gen, and my best advice is neither, go get the newest nano, it's loaded with features and is still very light and small. But if you defnitly want a Shuffle, I'll go with the 3rd gen. 4th gen for me is just a big bluff from Apple; you need the earbuds to everything. The 3rd gen is light, and small enough, there is no need of anithing smaller, specially when that makes everything more complicated. But you should really consider the Nano.
@Scumkill2 yes i have seen the Sansa Clip.. the design of that thing is crap and the screen dont make much of a difference except making it 3x thicker than the ipod shuffle.. that thing looks like a ripoff of a mini mp3 player and the audio quality is crap compared to the ipod shuffle. it is also 2.5x times heavier than the shuffle and really mojority of the people would prefer the ipod shuffle over the sana clip
@Scumkill2 Shuffle is for people who wants to listen to music while working out like running and benching you can now find a song easy on shuffle since apple added voice control on it. ipod shuffle can also easily clip on your shirt so you dont have to take it out from your pocket everytime you want to do something with your ipod which is a total pain in the ass. and whats the point of an ipod shuffle if theres a screen?how does getting a ipod shuffle makes someone a spoiled whelp??
Hey, I skateboard and I don't like using my ipod nano when I skate cause I don;t wanna fall on it and crack the screen. I'm just wondering if this is a good ipod to get or should I but the earlier generation? I need something with a good amount of memory, but also, I want to be able to find the songs i wan to listen to easily. I know there's a playlist feature but is it easy to switch from song to song? Thanks.
Yeah. I have a 2nd generation ipod shuffle and I like it. I had it for about 8 months, then i got a ipod nano 4 my birthday. I gave the shuffle 2 my mom and showed her how 2 use it. after about 3 weeks, my mom lost the dock, so she couldn't recharge it. I still haven't gotten a replacement dock. I like how i can fit it in my coin pocket on my pants. this new one looks like i might accidentally crush it.

i didn't like shuffles when they first came out, ipod video and nano was small enough. now that apple made it so you need apple headphones it's laughable. or to buy an extra piece of crap to accommodate the primary piece of crap as morphious mentioned.
yeah the presenter voice is awesome, for when your brain turns into a bbbbbbblob of mush and you can't remember what you put on the ipod.

That's awesome. I hope that, instead of a 1 foot, inline extension, someone makes a Y style adaptor that will clip up onto my headphone cable...This is the first design that actually allows you to stick the MP3 player in your pack or pocket and still easily control it. Making a short, inline cable will force you to keep it somewhere that you can get to it. Kinda defeats the design.
What? They're charging $80 for this thing? It's a glorified flash drive with a headphone jack! No screen? One button on the headphones and nowhere else so you can only use their crappy pair?
Regardless, I'm sure many people won't have a problem paying 200% more for a 10% increase in quality as they always have for Apple products, during a recession, no less.
Do yourself a favor and buy a Sansa Clip instead for a third of the price. It doesn't come with smug, though.
thats cool, but i have bad expiriences with shuffles and apple headphones on all the ipods ive owned or mi friends owned, the left headphone always breaks, it just stops working no matter how good u take care of it one day it just stops n 2 of the shuffles i had the batteries jus died so it wouldnt even hold a charge so until they make an adaptor for this shuffle to use 3rd party headphones i wouldnt really trust it
I've always been a big ipod fan, but I think apple is really going in the wrong direction with this product.
Having 4 gigs is inappropriate. There's no way to navigate other than next or previous. If anything, put a tiny lcd to display the song so you can more quickly shuffle (ha! get it?) through songs to select which one you want. The lack of controls on the unit is just poor planning. This seems more like a gimic than anything revolutionary. This should be $39.99 product, not $80.

Well my gripe with Apple Headphones is that mainly they have fallen apart really quickly within a month or so on me in the past, like with my first iPod Nano 2nd gen. But the ones I got with my iPod Touch 2G haven't fallen apart yet and I got it with my mac last July. However i just bought the 2G version of the shuffle in pink for a friend, I hope she likes it.
I got one for free.. :D Well, I would never buy it, I used my SE walkman phone for listening music before , but its really nice. The quality is good and it It is shiny and small and is easy to use. The only downsides are the headphones and the battery capacity. And the price is damn high for such a thing...

And that sound voiceover feature is available with other ipods as well i put it on to see what it was but the voice was annoying so i took it off. LOL. But hey 5 strs on the review!
EPIC FAIL for Apple. I mean WTF???? It's still a nice device. But why the heck would you make an iPod that will only work with apple headphones. That's just crap. I have 100$ headphones which is more than the iPod itself. So I'd like to use my headphones which are a lot better. But I can't because apple failed. First EPIC fail for apple.
The double tap and triple tap is really a stupid idea.. The old button control is so much easier. And the voice over is annoying.. Instead of making things easier, it makes things all so complicated-.-||
I have nothing against you and everything against this new design. Jobs really didn't think of the consumer well enough this time.
Ipods are excellent players no doubt. But I could never get over their sound quality. It simply isn't up to the task. It sounds hissy, unfocused and generally lacking in everything. Good phones like ultimate ears will improve it, but imo, spending 300$ on a player and another 300$ on headphones simply isn't worth it.
I'm not talking about which is more popular, I'm talking about media availibility. All Apple is doing is making things smaller, when they should be focusing on making things with screens and that plays something other than music. BTW, Bill Gates does not make the zune, Steve Balmer runs the whole thing. (just a little fact)
Anyone else notice how all Apple has ever done is take something someone else has made (i.e. an MP3 player), make it a little bit smaller, and then re-sell it to the public and act like its something new? Theyve done that with their own products too.. iPod Shuffle = an example.

its a bit gay, once the earphones break your screwed && with me that would be within two months && im not prepared to waste £25 on earphones, plus its needs a fucking SCREEN, i wanna choose the song, not have the song, i downloaded && know the name of read to me. i also hate the fact a new ipod come out every year, just make the best one you can & stick with it. DAMN YOU APPLE
I think you can use whatever headset you want, it's just that you can't steer the playback controls... So what you can do (I think, please correct me if I'm wrong) is to plug the originals in, select the playlist/mode you want, and then use whatever headsets you wanna use... I really hope that works, especially if another solutions hasn't come up till I get mine... :D
The only thing i dont like about this thing is the whole button pressing thing. At least with the old shuffle there were easy to press buttons for play next etc... now its like playing Tekken and you have to memorize combos to work it. Plus the whole thing about how i cant use my own headphones turns me off too. But im sure it has its perks, and i sure itll sell like crazy
i read that scosche (i think thats right) already has headphones for it or they're in the works already

Here is an ipod shuffle...thats so tiny, where now there is and huge, I mean HUGE new Ipod...like everyone calls it the iPad. Which would you perfer? An tiny divice just to listen to music or a large ipad thats touch screen. It also has many uniqe features...I MEAN REALLY! A LOT!
first button is that you can hear songs after row and the second button is random playlist ;)

i got it 2 in color silver but just with 2 GB , but its enough :D .. its easy to handle with it and very good if you go out jogging or whatever .. =)
yah actually you can, i discovered it today :-) you got to press long enough, first it will tell ou the name of the song, artist, blah blah, then it beeps and starts telling you the names of the different playlists,and you click to stop it and go to that playlist. It s litte but cool :-)

that sucks because it should be waterproof sice is made for a sport use...

o.0 ok so if ur searching for a song on the old shuffle, u got to click one button repeatedly till u find it.....now u got to fucking click twice...pause...click twice again...pause...the old ipod u can tap that button to skip multiple songs quickly but now thats ganna be a bitch
Nevertheless, i do like the new design and the fact that the ipod shuffle can FINALLY let you choose your playlist.
I hope the next generation shuffle can retain the playlist function, the slick new look but give us some buttons to press.

I don't see the good of this...Carlos great review but personally i don't see why i would get it.I had second gen shuffle and it was a joy to have...but if i get this i would feel like i bought a piece of useless plastic.there is no design, no attraction.I think apple just focused on size for this

the only way id consider buying it was if i were to cut the clicker thing off move it down to the plug then attach a female headphone jack to the other side, that way you can use what ever headphones you want :) as long as the wiring isnt paint coated aha i hate trying to get the paint off :|
yeaa i dnt think its worth it either..i like to hook up my ipod to my car so i can hear my music while driving and with this ipod shuffle theres no way u can do that since to change and play songs u need the headphones and no buttons on the ipod..it looks pretty nice tho
i have and Ipod shuffle, but that thing is WAY smaller than mine, mines like 1.5 in long 1 in wide and (counting the clip bit) is .45 or less in thick, but i love it, i got it for christmas and i use it alot. but why did they name them both the shuffle? it is making me confused!
That shuffle is nice and its small too. But the problem is when you can put up to 1000 songs on it you might want to search by artist or album and I dont think you can for this. To shuffle through that many songs to find one you wanna listen to at a partcular moment will get tedious.
