I pray Apple is listening to you. A new iPod classic with a great dac, headphone jack and Bluetooth, no distractions, music only. That would be a dream.
@@jacosta5580 Exactly. It won't happen. The popularity of iPods (and high-quality audio players) is near zero, despite what this video claims. Also, we'll never see the headphone jack back in portables, because this would affect one of the biggest lies and scams in modern consumer audio tech: the abominable "true wireless earphone" craze, also invented by Apple with the AirPods. It's a scam for two reasons: on the one hand, Apple officially claimed "innovation" and "better audio quality" as reasons for dropping the headphone jack from iPhones (both are just lies). On the other, and even worse, those bluetooth earbuds are throwaway consumer waste, with non-replaceable batteries, requiring pennies to produce and sold at an unbelievable profit margin. You just don't make good profit with high-quality stuff, especially now that everything is mainstream-commercialised. True wireless earbuds are the cheap and nasty way out of this, and thanks to brilliant marketing, consumers fall for it.
I never understood why these went away; i had several of them for training, they were small, light, played your music, no fuss! Easy to use...a phone is heavy and bulky, they would make a killing bringing those back! Great topic!

I never stopped using my iPod Classic, I’ve had it 15-20 years and It’s got most of my music collection on it, I have it plugged into my car usb port so I’ve always got my music available when driving. My kids tease me about it, but I love it 🙌🏻
I love the iPods. My older brother had 4 that he downloaded his music on and I have been playing them since he passed. WHAT A GIFT! HE DOWNLOADED EVERYTHING. Everything he could get his hands on. I have music forever. I’m so thankful.
The reason I bought iPods in the first place is because of Dank Pods, the reason I've been sticking with them is protesting our hyper-convenient "you will own nothing" world
You’re so Right!. I own the las generation and I’m still using and like it a lot. Since 10+ years solid! Apple should Re-released and Upgrade this one!.
Hey Spencer ... just found your video and I love it. I use my iPod daily at the gym to listen to music, because I don't take my phone there (unlike most of the guys up there, who spend more time playing on their phones than lifting weights :-).) Yesterday my old iPod finally died after 9 years of heavy use. I was thinking about buying another one -- until I found an old deactivated iPhone 4 in my desk drawer. I wiped it clean and right now it's working perfectly as my new "iPod." Call it Repurposing With A Purpose. Looking forward to your future videos!
I use mine for 60% Video, 30% Audiobooks and 10% Music. Modded to hold 1TB. Always ready to go on short notice, no worrying about what to download or stream to go with me. No draining my phone battery for all these things. Love it!
#6 The audio quality is better. I have a Bluetooth receiver connected to my 1979 Yamaha Hi Fi and I was streaming from my phone and not happy with the audio quality. 2 things acted to reduce the overall listening enjoyment 1) the DAC in the iPhone and 2) Bluetooth itself. Then only just this weekend I remembered the long forgotten iPod Gen 5 Classic sitting in the bottom draw. Haven't used it for years. I dragged it out and charged it. It accepted charge so I connected it via the RCA line in to the headphone jack and voila! Music sounded infinitely better than the phone - almost as good as vinyl only easier as I don't have to get up and change sides every 6 songs or so! So def audio quality should be on your list.
I never stopped using mine so im glad yall finally came around...i stopped yesterday though because my hard drive finally took a dump...so of course im putting a new drive in it and look forward to another 15 years of offline interruption free music ...carry on ipod people
I am glad I came across this video and your channel! It couldn't have come to me at a better time. I was aching to separate my devices again and go back to the early 2000s when tech was convenient but not intrusive and distracting. It brings me back to the days when there was still social media, but you could really only use it when you were home. How cool was that! I just may pick up an iPod classic again - it has been a long time!
Great video. Another reason I'd add-people don't like relying on streaming subscriptions for music, where legal battles can remove your music at any time, they can change the terms of the service or raise the price, and you have to keep paying forever or else lose your music. It's much nicer to have a local collection of CDs and/or MP3s, and iPods are perfect for listening to your own permanent, curated library.
@@kevinwong_2016 Yes, but your music library is still at the whim of the streaming service. If you stop paying your music is gone, if some music gets removed from the platform it's gone from your library. Actually owning the MP3s is way better IMO. I've cancelled my spotiy and have been going with MP3s on my trust iPod collection. Also it's fun choosing which iPod I wanna bring with me
@@ambiarock590I miss my iPod. How are you updating music on there after they discontinued iTunes? I’ve been looking for 3rd party apps that can replace it
Same here. I think that if I used my smartphone to listen to music I'd kill the battery in a few hours. Granted my smartphone is a few years old, but even when it was new if I used it for more than making phone calls and texting it would be a significant hit on the battery life. Meanwhile, with my digital audio player (Sony Walkman NW-A55) I usually have more than a day of playtime unless I use Bluetooth, which is a significant drain on the battery. Plus, with a MicroSD card and internal memory I can carry about 250gb of files on my player.
NA I would say it's was DankPod who unified it but the fans elevated him, If no one cared we wouldn't be talking about him. plus COVID help him too people were locked up rummaging through their old stuff looking for there iPod a after watching an Australian man yelling at an iPod or at least being nostalgic.
I recently picked up a 5th gen Ipod. To interact with music again is such an amazing feeling. Started picking up CDs to add to my collection to put on my Ipod. Something I haven't done in 20 some years. The fact CDs are so cheap its a great to have that intentional expression of music and not dictated by a streaming service. Offline is indeed the new Luxury.
Oooh, I feel into that trap and developed a slight MiniDisc addiction… I have about 7 or 8😂. They are so cool though,! I’m gonna make a “matrix soundtrack “ disc on one of the same kind of discs that appears in the first film. (I already have the disc) 😁
I still use my ipod Nano and Ipod Touch. When I was recently going through TSA at the airport the person scanning actually stopped and picked them up and admired them. He was surprised that I still used them on flights for music and movies. So much easier. Love them.
Doing things the hard way in this day and age is a choice more people will make and continue to make. Be it analog photography, listening to vinyl or riding a steel, rigid singlespeed mountainbike…it’s all about being connected to the activity.
When the internet goes down, I still have the pod. I don't have to be tracked where I go or what I listen to. There is no charge to listen to the music you love. I bought one that had 50,000 songs and had an SSD card in it. I love it.
In the last few months, I have worked on cutting out technology as best as I can. I have moved away from streaming and gone to an iPod (160gb classic on Ebay) and I have loved it. No distraction listening to my music, no paying a steaming fee and not having to have my phone with me are the big reasons. I have always moved away from using my phone for pictures, having recently picked up a Sony NEX 5R.
I never stopped using my ipod. Its the best for travel as its smaller than a phone, it has a jack for wired buds, its battery lasts much longer than a phone battery, its lighter than a phone. I listen to audiobooks on mine every day. Love it.
I'm 50 now so I had the pleasure of having an Lp player, cassette Walkman, CD Walkman, then a 1g ZEN, then a 2007 80G IPOD dial no bluetooth or WIFI lol. Loved them all and still have all except the cassette walkman
Watching your videos is like yoga for my brain. The best detox content. Your wholesome mentality and smart and logical mind just makes sense to me. I normally don’t write comments much, but it was needed after I watched every single video on your channel. Thanks again. Greeting from Germany
I have one, never gave it up... have had it since new... needs a new battery, but otherwise, still in usable shape. Thanks for the resource and this great video Spencer!
I ordered an mp3 player online cause I'm sick of getting ads on spotify and also because during school trips, i tend to listen to music in the bus but by the time I arrive to the destination my phone's battery basically gets halved. So I got it to prevent that as well. I'm a late gen z, born in 2007 so most ipods are older than me. I never had an mp3 player as a kid but I had friends with strict parents who got one before they had a phone. I find mp3 players very fascinating as I've always associated playing media with smartphones or computers, you know, expensive devices. I just find it so cool that a pretty cheap device can do all of that. It's a new world for me and I like it.
As a kid, I grew up using CD players that had a headphone Jack, and was able to play about 13 songs on a full released CD, and about 25 songs on one burned CD-R/CD+RW/CD+R. It wasn't until 2010 that I started using Zune devices, and then ten years later I was given my older brother's iPhone, and since then, considering that the iPhone ends up using so much battery, I just rather use a laptop or a device that I can include WAV files into my Zune rather than convert it into HQ 320Kbps MP3s instead.
I think people who are poor or don’t have the privledge of unlimited data will understand why offline media is so important.. i think more peopel will realize this too as prices and inflation increases.. suddenly having things offline will seem like a god send.
@@npcimknot958 which is ironic because there's an episode of Community where someone gets made fun of for using a CD player, saying they're too poor to buy an iPod.
love suddenly getting a bunch of ipod videos after just buying an ipod nano and touch as 19 year old LOL .. i used to use my dads ipod nano back in like 2011-13 and i miss it
I have one of those non Android Sony players. I think it was the last non Android model they made. No wifi, no phone calls, no notifications. Just plays music, which is all I want it for. And it does it well. Before that, I had the 2009 model Ipod Classic. That thing kept going for 13 years. Hoping I can get the same kind of mileage out of the Sony.
@@kevinmontgomery1383It’s probably A105 that he’s talking about, but actually sony is still making nonandroid walkmans to this day, meant for audiophiles and very expensive though
I still use my iPod nightly….(red) for podcasts. I love Apple products ….so user friendly ! I am 70 years old and it is a daily part of my day. I have to use my iPhone to stream in my car . Steve Jobs , thank you !
the 5th gen is best one becuase its latest one can install rockbox on it. i recomend it it allows more formats, ads more games (altho idk why would play them now a days) and it also removes the use for the crappy itunes. tho if like itunes, it will constatly want to nuke your mods.
I got an upgraded refurbished 5.5 gen a couple months ago to replace my iPod nano that’s battery expanded. It has a 128gb ssd with a new battery and faceplate. I didn’t realize how much I missed it, people look at me like a weirdo when they see me using it in public but I don’t care I love it :)
Aww not the na-no. I've been using a 4th gen classic everyday since I got it a couple weeks ago. I love the monochrome screen. I have a 3rd gen lying around but it's not the best iPod to use because of its reliance on firewire. The 4th gen can actually be charged via USB so in the car, while syncing with my PC, and while on an iPod dock. The 4th gen is making its way up my favorites list
@@ambiarock590 I was thinking about picking up a 4th gen too before the prices get too crazy, that was the first iPod I had so it would be cool to have one with a new battery and ssd.
I'm so glad TH-cam suggested this video. You've made me want to get my old iPod (identical to the one you have), mod it and get back to using it. I also feel the need to disconnect a bit. Thank you for this video!
I got an iPod Mini 2nd Gen and decked it out with a new battery, 256gb SD card, and soldered in Bluetooth. It is my new go to music device!! No app distractions, monochrome screen doesn't show artwork so less battery drain, I have more control on what I own and play (dumped all my CDs in there as well as sold them to save space). It just works and I am so happy I found a certain Aussie who rekindled my love for ipods❤
I used to spend a few hours weekly ripping a stack of CDs in my slot loading G3 iMac, then syncing them to my iPod via FireWire. Then enjoy the results on my commute, or trip on a plane.
Fixed my iPod classic during the Pandemic as a hobby, after I found some youtuber doing the same! I’m loving using it again! It feels so nostalgic and yet super cool.
I couldn't afford to purchase a new iPod when they first arrived, but over the last 15 years, I've been picking them up typically for $10 at thrift shops. I have a supply of 30-40 at any given time and keep them in the car, at work, at home, etc. When one goes bad (and they occasionally do and cannot be restored) i just toss it. iTunes has most every Lp I could want, from classical to mid-60's punk psych to Amyl and The Sniffers to 1920's jazz, so I don't miss out on anything. I also use various docking stations like the Numark iDEC, Peavey and others to play directly through a PA system or home stereo. I agree that playing stuff on your phone is a pain, and just ties you up with other nonsense.
I would add even the "right to own your music" since now we are in a streaming era as well where if you have a niche you follow as artist it can bump around different services or not be available anymore straight up so the cost monthly to keep even just tidal and Spotify for example can be as buying 2 albums per month, which is not much at the beginning but if you keep doing that you can build an incredibly big library of music that you actually own from the digital files and will never be taken from you
It's most likely that on Spotify, I have had recordings on both Screenflow AND OBS, and I can guarantee you the screenflow and OBS recordings are basically digital copies of my own recordings of how I recorded the screen. Most of the music I've screen recorded through OBS or Screenflow, the visual is only there if I need to know what the title, artist, and album of the song it's currently playing, but it's the audio that's most important.
@@kevinwong_2016 Whhhaattt??? OBS comes in handy to screen record websites & Audio sources when you can't download it from Spotify and such for offline purposes. iPods are literally offline digital devices and such, not joking. I literally download stuff, what else would I use, the stupid internet only cloud storage??? Hell nooo.
I've still got the Classic 80gb version, and it's still like new. I used if then for music, videos and photos 📸. Welcome back ipod, thanks for the video and info.
I think it's for the same reason why we buy Kindles; no distractions and it is simple to use. I recently purchased my first Kindle Paper White, which changed my reading experience. The iPod changes the listening experience. I wish Apple would just bring it back here in 2024. I want to add something, though. It's not a protest for me; I love AI and all of the new stuff, and I love where we are going with advancing tech, and I am excited about it, but as an 80s kid, I love the retro stuff as well.
I still look back fondly on my old iPod Nano. I've been seriously considering getting on this iPod bandwagon lately. Nostalgic, and serves as a wonderful means to yoinkproof my music library in an era where we increasingly own nothing.
I was thinking of just throwing or destroying my iPod classic but after this video I am rethinking that. It still works, still has tons of classic rock. I am going to keep it now.
Great video, thank you! My 2 classic iPods generation 5 & 6 have always been my wurlitzer jukebox. 20+ years ago I spent summers uploading my collection of cd’s to my Mac. The memory on home computers at the time couldn’t hold my collection. I got those iPods to keep my music library safe and portable. Half my cd’s are gone several computers later, I can still listen to those hard to find tunes in many genres. I’m glad to hear they are making a comeback. Now I will not worry if they ever need a tuneup🎶🎵!;D
Been rocking a 5th gen classic since January and I’m loving it. I swapped the old 30gb drive for a 128GB CF card and a new battery. It’s so nice to just use it for music and nothing else. Also ALAC files are the same as FLAC so you can use super hi fi files still on the iPod. Thanks for the video
I have the iPod Video 30 5.5 and I just dug it back up in order to feed a retro Bose Soundwave radio/CD. The sound is amazing, but the best thing about it was being able to make playlists based on what mood you wanted to be in. The BEST thing, IMO, is that you can plug it directly into a car amp and not have to mess with your stock system. I have a 66 Mustang with a factory AM radio and I use the classic iPod connected direct to the amp in the trunk. I always thought the iPodTouch would have music interface like WinAmp used to have, but maybe that's not much of a thing. Too bad Apple made it so damn hard to change the batteries on these things. The good news is that there's tone and tons of iPods out there.
I was born in 2007 and I loved iPods as a kid. Here in Australia we are a little bit behind the times when it came to certain things, this includes streaming music as I remember most of my family and friends still used CDs or MP3 players up until about 2014-15 when Spotify became popular here. I have lots of nostalgia for these devices and picked up an iPod classic 6 120gb about 3 years ago. It’s been thrashed and is full of dents and scratches but surprisingly the hard drive is still going. Got me through lots of things. I’ll repair it when it eventually dies. Great vid!
I still have mine from 2006. I use it in my car to keep my music library. Plus, I use my iPod shuffle in the gym to have music but not being distracted by a phone.
I bought a secondhand iPod classic 160gb in 2015 and it has been my daily music player ever since. The hard drive gave up so it’s now a 256gb beast with a battery that lasts pretty much a month solid. Well worth getting it upgraded, I’m still able to buy secondhand cds as well as downloading new albums from Bandcamp. The youngsters think I’m behind the times, when really I’m just waiting for them to catch up. Great video as always 👍
I've got a 6th gen classic that I love using. I even put a rainbow front case on it to make it really unique. At some point I wanna flash mod this and cram 512 GB into it to make it a real powerhouse
@@ambiarock590I know what you mean, it’s well worth flashing them and putting a bigger battery in them I’m thinking about a 1tb as all I need to do is change the card (not that I’ve run out of space) but just love mine so much
Damn why you gotta bash on the youth, does that make you feel better? Anyway what makes them great now is how easy to mod them because of how old they are and theres alot more information now. I remember when one had to jailbreak before it reached a certain patch update lol fun times.
I’ve got an old iPod nano, I’m not even sure what generation/year it is, maybe 6th gen. It was a fixture of my 2010 MINI Cooper for at least ten years. I’d load it up with music and just played it for over 100k miles… It took a break off a few years, but now it’s back to doing what it was meant to do in my 2015 MINI Cooper. Still looks and works great as it’s been in a silicone case from day one.
I got an iPod recently and I’m 16, so the iPod I have rn (5th gen) is most likely older than me, and I like it. I like how it does its one job really well and there’s no ads which is a big plus, and the last point you made is one of the bigger reasons why I got one
As a DJ, I’m inspired to get an iPod now because instead of lugging around my 15 inch MacBook Pro just cause it has all my old songs, I could transfer those songs to an iPod and plug that into my mixer instead . My iPad is my main device with my dj softeare but I always keep an extra device for more music or to blend from one device to another, instead of over working the iPad using TH-cam and dj software and other software etc. thanks for the content!
Just wanna say I appreciate these videos, you make content I’ve always been interested in but I don’t usually see from other minimalist TH-camrs and I highly rate that! Keep it up!
I love and still use my 160 GB iPod classic 7th generation mp3 player (as well as my 120 GB iPod classic) and I transferred hundreds of CD albums onto it (and bought the odd album or song on iTunes too several years ago). :)
I just got a Sandisk MP3 player based on one of your previous videos on this subject! Didn't realize how much I missed an MP3 player just dedicated for my music - and yes, my phone runs out of space too quickly too
The further I go on a journey similar to yours, Spencer, I find myself increasingly drawn to and recommending to others the virtues of single use devices. Like with people, things that try to be everything and do anything scarcely excel at any one thing. Purpose built devices that do what they do well with no extra padding or strings attached are awesome. As to people who keep harping on the willpower issue, quite frankly I put smart phone usage in a similar category as addiction to other vices like alcohol. It's really easy to sit back and tell someone to just have more willpower and more control, but when you're constantly exposed to devices that are intentionally meant to be addictive, and there is peer and societal pressure to use them all the time, sometimes the best solution truly is to remove the temptation entirely. Smart.
My sister still has her iPod Shuffle clips and I can't blame her. It just a small thing that you can clip anywhere and it plays music! Especially if you go for a jog or something.
That's the intended purpose of the iPod Shuffle, to use during workouts. That's why it has minimal controls, no screen, and limited memory. It's not intended to be your main music player.
love your framing of it as an "act of protest" - it very much is for me too. that i can turn off and have my focus only on music or podcasts, not potentially taken by a notif or chat app... the ipod, a great bastion in the fight against distraction culture!
So glad I fixed mine up last year. Classic 6th gen, put in a new battery, flash card adapter, 128 GB SD card and new face and back plate. Unplugging and getting rid of distractions while increasing my music library without being tempted into other time sucks and endless advertising is def helping with mental health.
Getting rid of the iPod was a mistake. I still have that black one you were showing with a simple 'base' that gives me a handy portable stereo unit. The Nano was terrific - a dedicated music player makes a lot of sense to me (as a music producer of 40 years) as diary and reference unit that can easily plug into a hotel audio system or whatever.
I agree that Apple made a mistake when they discontinued the iPod Classic. When they did that they had the corner on the high-capacity digital music player market because no player had 160gb of storage. Unfortunately for Apple the other manufacturers stepped up and matched/exceeded the storage capacity. On my player, I added a MicroSD card and had 250gb of storage. If Apple was to bring back the iPod Classic , I'd like to see the following: (1) keep it the same size, (2) replace the hard drive with storage via MicroSD cards, and (3) to extend the battery life replace the current screen (which consumes a lot of power) with an LCD screen like with the early iPods.
I have 3 classic and 3 touch screen iPods. I’ve upgraded the classics with SSD memory and higher capacity batteries. I have most of my 7,000 songs on them. Loving it all of these years!
After a few decades I decided to clear out some old Apple stuff and I sold the iPod with 60GB hard disk drive for a very decent amount of money because someone was honest enough to tell me about the new hype.
"It's fun to stay at that YMCA!" You know the song, if it's on that old iTouch. I need to see if I have that song. I know I have it somewhere where it's mine, not from a streaming service.
If I’m not mistaken the Rio Karma was one of the very first ones (if not the first), it was a great player but I don’t miss hard drives at all, along came flash storage and very quickly we made the switch to smartphones. We miss the isolation they used to bring to the music listening experience, and avoid those awkward moments when you’re playing music at a party or reunion and your texts and notifications start going like crazy, those I’d like to avoid as well again!
I wanna do the same with my 6th gen. It's currently 80GB and that's a lot of music and stuff but I wanna cram it with a 512 GB SD card and give it a big battery.
I have over 20 iPod minis. They were really made well. It''s a hunk of colored metal, overall pretty bullet proof (except for the link from the MB to the drive). I've modded them as an 64 GB SSD for Linus -- Rockbox, as you mentioned. Just love the thing for music, podcasts, whatever; excellent sound.
I still have my 120g 2012 Classic and my late model Bluetooth full screen IPod Touch. No clue how to get into them, bc I’ve forgotten the passwords for both.
I’m going to be flash modding a 4th gen iPod with 128GB micro SD & new battery very soon - just waiting on parts to arrive. I completely agree with all your points, I’m here for the nostalgia factor and distraction-free listening 🎧🎵
I had a clip MP3 player as a kid (Trio Clip I think it was called) and I also used my 3DS as a music player. Since coming across Dank Pods I've been building a collection of iPods and I genuinely use these as a music player. I plan on giving my 6th gen a super big upgrade at some point. I love these iPods.
I had my 7th gen 160gb ipod classic since 2008/2009. And STILL rock with it till this day. I don't care about apps. I don't care about surfing the internet. Just give me lots of Storage & great battery life. If I want something to carry my entire music library around, i want That Device. Old but still superior. I love it over here😊💙
For Apple Ipods the weak link is iTunes. Not just it's flakiness in restoring the firmware, but it's terrible dB based music library and dependence on a single iTunes install for keeping the music library in sync. Rockbox is the way to go. Just copy lossless flacs to the iPod via file explorer and you get the benefit of highest quality music with very comprehensive sound controls and dynamic play lists.
That is one of the main reasons I stopped using my iPod Classic: Mandated software. I didn't like iTunes for reason such as extremely limited appearance adjustments (I found the color scheme of iTunes to be extremely glaring and hard to look at for long periods of time). I used it mainly because so that I could use all of the features on my iPod (such as keeping track of the number of times a song was played), and also maintain the software on my player. It also did a good job of syncing with my music library. I once tried to sync my iPod with MediaMonkey and after several hours it still wasn't finished and I ended up having to give up on using it with my iPod. Although I considered trying Rockbox I didn't feel confident that I could properly install it and might brick my iPod.
We own 3 120gb iPods from the most recent generation before they were discontinued. We have 26,000 songs, many uploaded from cds from our library. We take good care of them, since we got rid of many of the cds after transferring the music. Is the battery still replaceable? Our iPods must be attached to power to function.
I pray Apple is listening to you. A new iPod classic with a great dac, headphone jack and Bluetooth, no distractions, music only. That would be a dream.
they'll probably put an app store on it.

I love the iPods. My older brother had 4 that he downloaded his music on and I have been playing them since he passed. WHAT A GIFT! HE DOWNLOADED EVERYTHING. Everything he could get his hands on. I have music forever. I’m so thankful.
And of course the 6th reason for me!...is total offline listening of your songs No ads and total privacy. Thanks for the video, super awesome
And no fee for listening to music also no worries about the song u want to hear being available on the service or not
I don't like being exposed to radio frequency (RF) radiation from my phone. Off-line use of an iPod is healthier for your brain.
@@Theo-kv7cj also wired headphones have little to no radiation as opposed to bt buds
True. Ipods serve a specific purpose. I bought one more than 15 years back. Its capabilities are EPIC even today. Absolutely unique.
I`ve got two IPod classics and use them just about every day. I`m not protesting or looking for nostalgia, I just love the way they work.
The reason I bought iPods in the first place is because of Dank Pods, the reason I've been sticking with them is protesting our hyper-convenient "you will own nothing" world
You’re so Right!.
I own the las generation and I’m still using and like it a lot.

Apple should Re-released and Upgrade this one!.

@@ambiarock590owning stuff is pointless especially if it’s only going to be in your life for a few years anyways
Love it!
did you have to install rockbox or ipod linux or could sitll use regular apple firmware?
@@NightmareRex6regular is fine
How did you mod it to hold 1TB? I modded my iPod Mini w/ a 64GB SSD. 1 TB would be amazing.
Do you know if you can somehow get audible audiobooks on there?
@@mialeyli All my audio books are in standard MP3 format. I would never use that strange audible format.
People want to own what they buy, crazy right!?
You can just download music onto your phone💀
@@kevinwong_2016 which is what they said...
@@kevinwong_2016 Yes, but your music library is still at the whim of the streaming service. If you stop paying your music is gone, if some music gets removed from the platform it's gone from your library. Actually owning the MP3s is way better IMO. @@ambiarock590I miss my iPod. How are you updating music on there after they discontinued iTunes? I’ve been looking for 3rd party apps that can replace it
I never put my iPod down. LOL I dislike having my music on my phone because I don't want to kill my battery on my phone listening to music.
Same for me!! My friends constantly complained when we hang I kill my battery and they can't reach me when needed.

I recently picked up a Sony MiniDisc Player again. They're even more basic than iPods. I love it.
I've been eyeing a beautiful Sony minidisk player for a while. Just wish I could afford it right now
And some models (like my 2 units) run on a single AA battery. Truly engineering genius!
I'm curious to see what that is. I've had minidiscs, but not a specific minidisc player. Interesting.
This is some hipster shit.

First ever video i see from the channel and i have to say I feel such a good and chill vibe from your way of speaking
I just bought an iPod classic because I always wanted one but couldn’t afford it back in the day. It’s so cool.

During the plandemic, that is.
@@SuperFlashDriver downloading:🗿🗿🗿🗿

I think it's for the same reason why we buy Kindles; no distractions and it is simple to use. I recently purchased my first Kindle Paper White, which changed my reading experience. The iPod changes the listening experience. I wish Apple would just bring it back here in 2024. I want to add something, though.
As a DJ, I’m inspired to get an iPod now because instead of lugging around my 15 inch MacBook Pro just cause it has all my old songs, I could transfer those songs to an iPod and plug that into my mixer instead .
I agree with this. I come from the old days where there was no internet. The world was a lot better calmer place. Love your video.
Question, way to get your music on without iTunes. ??
love your framing of it as an "act of protest" - it very much is for me too. that i can turn off and have my focus only on music or podcasts, not potentially taken by a notif or chat app... the ipod, a great bastion in the fight against distraction culture!
So glad I fixed mine up last year. Classic 6th gen, put in a new battery, flash card adapter, 128 GB SD card and new face and back plate. Unplugging and getting rid of distractions while increasing my music library without being tempted into other time sucks and endless advertising is def helping with mental health.

Still got my 6th gen iPod it’s been serviced new battery and such like I love it and won’t ever get shot of it it’s blast from the past
I need a new battery also, can you please tell me where and who serviced yours. Thanks
I still use my 128gb i pod classic block ( almost 15 yrs old ) .... the battery has taken a hit but it still delivers none the less....Thank you !
I think all your points about its resurgence are 100% spot on. Very well thought out and researched!
Thanks, I appreciate your comment!
My brother sent me his old iTouch player and I love using it when I work out at the YMCA. Love it!
I have the iPod 160gb and always thought about retro fitting with ssd
I wanna do the same with my 6th gen. It's currently 80GB and that's a lot of music and stuff but I wanna cram it with a 512 GB SD card and give it a big battery.
I have over 20 iPod minis. They were really made well. It''s a hunk of colored metal, overall pretty bullet proof (except for the link from the MB to the drive). I've modded them as an 64 GB SSD for Linus -- Rockbox, as you mentioned. Just love the thing for music, podcasts, whatever; excellent sound.
Anyone who can't find an iPod can order a cheap MP3 player. Been using an MP3 player since 2005. Currently using a Sony Digital Walkman.
I still have, and recently upgraded, my Microsoft Zune. Still going, still rocking it.
The current Apple TV remote reminds me of the scroll wheel from the iPod. Love it
I still have my two .... and I still use them ...
Our "smart word" is not making us any smarter ...it's just making some people richer
I love it over here😊💙
The iRiver I got as a gift in 2004, is still in use today, in my garage hooked up to an old-school stereo system.
I had the iPod Nano with the screen and I had a sliver wrist band for it! Looked like a watch and I loved how it did cross fade on music
I have the iPod Classic and you are spot on I just want to hear good tunes nothing else 🎧🎶🎤💪🏾
You could also just use focus modes on iPhones or turn off notifications or not use social media
I just got my 6th Gen iPod today and this comes out the same day
We own 3 120gb iPods from the most recent generation before they were discontinued. We have 26,000 songs, many uploaded from cds from our library. We take good care of them, since we got rid of many of the cds after transferring the music. Is the battery still replaceable? Our iPods must be attached to power to function.
