- A "parade of storms" was passing through the area, so I thought it would be the perfect time to stay cozy & dry in a cave... or so I thought!

I sincerely want to thank everyone for watching and helping me hit 100 subs today! 🎉 It may seem small to some, but I’m still in shock… I’m glad y’all are enjoying the adventures, got a lot more planned 😉
Fun stuff! Definitely get some lights for your boat for night paddling.
Wow from 100 to 7.3k in 4 months LETS GO WES! Keep it up we love your videos man!
You're at 11k now July 7 2024!
100k subs by Thanksgiving....maybe earlier.
You have 14.7 thousand now!
Balls of steel kayaking there in the dark. I could never!
My balls appreciate the compliment lol
Been following this man for a few months now. This guy is amazing to me. Nothing is out of bounds for him. Go for it Wes! I love your videos! Be safe!
Thanks so much Jon, really glad you've been here watching and supporting for so long! I will keep at it and be safe 👍👍
@@WesWhereverJust found your channel a few days ago and all the back content is amazing for us newbies! Stay safe and keep it up 🤙
Damn... I could not do that paddle in the dark.. 😬 you are a tougher Wes, than I...
Ah Wes, you’re probably tougher than you think! 😉💪
the kayak journey was hardcore and it is what sets this channel apart from the others. happy to add my subscription
Thanks man, I’m glad you enjoyed! I do like to challenge myself while being smart about the risks involved… can be a very fine line sometimes. Hope it makes for good content! :)
This video really shows how we can experience an adventure in everyday life with a little bit of creativity without having to travel far from home. And I really like the contrast between those bridge lights from modern civilization and this unexploited place of natural beauty.
Very true, up until my road trip all of my spots were within 30-45 mins of where I lived. Many people think that camping requires driving hours away, but it doesn't have to! And definitely, quite a juxtaposition of heavily traveled infrastructure and tranquil nature. Thanks for sharing your perspective, you seem very observant and appreciative of the smaller details that make life so interesting!
I found this little gem of a channel. Now I will subscribe and watch all movies. Way to go Wes!
Thanks, Maarten... hope you enjoy them all!! 🏕️
You are such a positive, adventurous person .Such an inspiration mate 👍🏼😊
This is a good video to remind people (or, let them know) that I've heard multiple times that if you ever light a fire in a cave, to never put the fire in between yourself and the entrance, because if something happens to make the fire bigger, you won't be able to get out the cave, if you do. You'll be trapped inside, with the raging fire. They say to light the fire somewhere further into the cave. It doesn't necessarily have to be as far in as possible. Just make sure it's away from the entrance enough to be able to get out of the cave if the fire does get bigger.
You can regulate fires by putting less or more wood on them, or manipulating them.
That tug boat captain mvp! Also. Cool video
Yeah it was nice he was looking out for a lone kayaker like me!
That was a ballsy paddle for sure,
I fucking love watching your videos man.
the caves are mining tunnels from when they mined manganese on the island in 1860s. They mined about 200 tons of it and shipped it to Europe where it was used as a pigment. It also where the island gets color from.
Fascinating!! I want to go back and find the other cave(s) at some point
Every time I go across the Richmond Bridge, I talk about how someday I want to take my kayak out to that Island and camp. SOMEDAY
Make it happen, cap’n 😉
Did u do it?
WHOA WOW!
very cool thanks
Wes, this video is AWESOME and I’m willing to bet this video is about to explode! This is so cool.
Thanks Trent, what an honor coming from you!! Big fan of your vids & van setup… thanks for the words of encouragement!
That was a wild adventure, you are a brave guy!
Thanks Jeff, glad you enjoyed!! 😁
Your channel is an excellent mix of bold and humble. Going places that are brave and doing it in such a relateable way- it’s fantastic viewing, friend - well done! 👍
Appreciate that my friend, so glad you have been enjoying. Thanks for your support 🙏
32 seconds into the video and I can already tell you that your production value is incredible especially for 78 subscribers. I was shocked, you're on the way up brother just keep doing what you're doing
Thanks Rhino, really appreciate that!! Just trying my best to make fun content that people will enjoy ☺️
Looks like you and Yorick had a nice evening
That is awesome, have a great day.
Thanks again Dave, you as well!
My pleasure @@WesWherever
Wow! One of your best adventures ever!
Glad you're enjoying bro, appreciate your support!!
Brother you are so crazy on the good way amazing just be careful.
Thanks for sharing your awesome adventure. The island almost looked shaped like a crocodile 🐊 .
Thanks for watching! I had not noticed that, very true 🐊🏝️
I’m so happy I found you! I live in the Bay Area and recently bitten by the stealthy bug. You provide so many fun ideas 🥹 keep em coming!
Sweet man, you should recognize a lot of my spots then!! 😉 Let me know if there's anywhere in the bay you wanna see me cover 👍👍
That was fun. Thank you 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!! 😊
scary paddling at night in stormy weather and ocean freighters next to you 😳
I know, I definitely had to keep my wits about me on this one!!
Make these videos longer. Little more detail. That my personal preference
Got it, I will keep that in mind when I'm editing the videos in the future! Definitely want to give people the best viewing experience possible
Agreed, 10 or so minutes isn't enough.
I definitely like some shorter videos like this and some longer ones, the best example I can think of is Xander Budnick (I believe that’s how it’s spelled). His videos are great and I highly recommend if you don’t already know him
WILSON!!!!
Awesomely Done Video!
That cave looked great .nice video matey
Great adventure
Wonder if it'd be easier to pack the firewood in a 30-40 L pvc drybag and tow it? You'd have more room onboard for supplies!
Very true! I am always cautious with dry bags after I put a hole in one, but a sturdy enough one would be a game changer for hauling wood 🪵
1st time coming across your channel, started the video & got distracted so was not watching for the 1st few mins just listening.... I could swear it was like listening to Michael Scott from Dunder Mifflin on a camping trip lmao.
Lol I have been bingeing the office lately after visiting Scranton recently! Video I did there is "Island Camping In River Rapids" if you wanna see it
Just found the channel and love it. I've subscribed of course!
Appreciate you bro
whattt how you are not famouss, your videos are so good
Thank you!! Just trying my best to have fun while making good content for y’all ☺️
Lil tugboat was funny
This happened to me on Apache Lake and when the ceiling started to drip, I grabbed my gear and dragged it out into the rain (not packing). I got it down to the shore and was repacking it, in the rain, when the ceiling of that cave I was in collapsed.
Oh my goodness!! So glad you are okay. That's really something to be wary of!
I like your channel. I wish you could tell us what state and/or body of water you are in, not being too specific about your exact location for obvious reasons.👍
Glad you are enjoying!! I will try to shed more light on the location without being too obvious in future videos 👍 This is in the San Francisco Bay 🌉
@@WesWherever Thanks. we have an arch railroad bridge in Mississippi that looks exactly like the graffiti covered bridge you camped in only smaller.👍
Wow
Been to that island. Lots of birds nests all over the place. Don’t remember the cave. Looks like it goes back a long way. Wonder why it was dug?
I have heard it was to mine for manganese 🤔
Anxiety levels still high but great content!
Thanks again for watching!! 😊
I would love to go on the trips with you I would bring us the mres
I believe it is a mine shaft
First let me congratulate you for the water journey. Far more intense than the cave dwelling. Speaking of such we men are always longing for that illusive cave dwelling that our ancestors once inhabited. We “Had” to move out to better digs because the women simply didn’t appreciate our cave wall art. Oh sure we used berries and dung but remember “beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder”. Alas we must return home, back to society and close the doors or roll the stones to shut our own man-caves. From boys only tree houses, to rocky outcrops amidst challenges for survival we do return to that new wave cave we struggle to survive to this day. I / We all look forward to another installment of spelunkers-living-101 (million years ago) but hey it’s still ok to dream and explore. This week I’ll man cave my Class-A for seven, a few campfires, some mammal flesh seared over the fire and I will grunt a single syllable phrase to the same stars that cover you. “UGH!” P.S. I did MASH that like thumb.
Your comment really has me reflecting on our primitive origins... gives me a lot to think about. I do love reconnecting with these deeply ingrained desires for us to hunt, gather, shelter and belong. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts, Erik! Hope you have a great week getting out there with your RV.
Dude amazing video! You're for sure gonna blow up keep up the amazing work!
Thanks for the encouragement, James! Trying my best to capture fun adventures that people will want to watch… I’m glad you enjoyed :)
I read somewhere that it is safer to light the fire as far inside the cave as possible, and at the lowest point, rather than at the entrance.
Interesting 🤔 I wonder if that applies to micro-caves like this one
Crossing open navigated water in the dark, kind of sketch.
Are you gonna try fishing catch and cook in the future? Would be cool
Have thought about it, but I will seriously need to brush up on my fishing skills… it’s been a minute 😂
@@WesWherever Only way to brush up on your skills is to get out there and do it. Nothing wrong with being a novice and filming as you learn… those are always the best fishing videos anyway. There’s another dude from the Bay Area and his channel "fisherman’s life” is great.. he did a lot of learning on camera. Anyway good luck
Very true, maybe you’ll see a catch and cook from me soon then 😉 Does sound really fun!
Would love to be doing what you do but I can't.
So I'll subscribe to watch you do it instead.
Keep the good vids coming and stay safe while you do it.
Thanks, Keith. My grandmother told me to capture and share the adventures for those who couldn't do it themselves, encouraging to hear that it's paying off 😊 I will make sure to stay safe! 👍👍
Wes - Is that an Eddyline Skylark? I have a blue Sandpiper 120. In fact I have six Eddyline kayaks for different purposes.....12' to 16' 6". I have yet to ever kayak mine to an island to store it in a tunnel....lol...won't be happening. You are wild! Loving your content! I have also never carried wood/logs in mine. That would be something different.
Wouldn't be easier to use a bivy sack at times vs a tent?
Good stuff! Subscribed!
Thanks Phil, welcome aboard!!
Would you dare to camp in a haunted forest? Because I wouldn't
I wouldn't immediately rule it out, but not something I'd necessarily look forward to lol
A lot of debate into where the best spot for a fire in a cave is, and it tends to be toward the middle.
Good content broo
Thanks Kinoi 🙏
you have some balls man
❤
Cool video amigo. Is this SF bay? Looks fun
Thank you… it is indeed!
I'm halfway through and maybe you mention this but where are you in this video? Thanks in advance!
This is in the San Francisco Bay!
Awesome adventure! Was that part of the "crew" at 2:50? It sure looks like a person in a life jacket with a hoody!
Thanks man! Nah it's just gear I staged a bit up the rocks before carrying it the rest of the way
That skull is probably belongs to Arne Saknussemm 💀👍
Google algo decided you get to be popular I guess, your suddenly appearing between the other outdoors channels
Each video is really fun to record, but definitely a labor of love. I’m glad it’s getting out to more people… hope you enjoyed 😊
great video!! hi wes.. have a good evening and weekend. i hope all is well. congratulations 105 subscribers!!
Hi Heather, appreciate you watching as always :) Glad you enjoyed… hope your weekend goes great as well
@@WesWherever your welcome and thank you! Hope all is well
Alas, poor Yorick….Horatio?
Nice video man! Your editing is great. Any tips on how to make life easier when editing with different angles from 2 different go pros? I'm a beginner, but it is such a pain lining the 2 different clips up! You make it looks natural great job
Thanks dude, I really appreciate that! You have quite the catalog of content yourself, keep up the good work 💪 I’ve found it easier to line up the different angles using a distinctive sound/visual cue (think of the 🎬 they use in movies). Any spoken dialogue can work as well. Also look into setting up “multicam” in your editing software, it can make things a lot easier!
Where is this at? Thanks
Northern San Francisco Bay near San Pablo Bay
How deep is the water?.. That's a trip in the dark!
Right!! I believe it's over 40 feet
Wow
None of these disappoint
Can you better explain the tug boat interaction?
Thanks man, glad you've been enjoying! It was so hard for me to hear all of what he was saying with the rain, wind, and noise. All I really heard was him telling me to go past the green marker. They came from an oil refinery, so I'm guessing a tanker ship was about to make its way through and they wanted to ensure I didn't get run over 😬
I grew up in the Bay Area. Never knew a cave was out there, cool! Thanks for the interesting tour. Tugboat dudes were so helpful! 🛶 🔦 👍
Yup, there really is so much to discover in the bay!! Thanks for watching
Red Rock Island?
😉
I couldn't have done all that work to only stay one night.
True if it was more dry in there I would have considered staying a second night!
Been watching a fair bit of your channel dude, smashing it. But holy shit do you have some balls to be doing that in the dark wtf, I'd be full panic attack.
Yeah it's definitely not for the faint of heart, I would say! Having lights and a marine radio are a must 👍👍 Thanks again for watching, glad you've been liking the adventures 😊
why in the world would you land in the dark? Planning error or intentional?
Very risky going in the dark bruv, you shouldve been there hours before the sun was gone
red rock in the rain. not sure you know what rough water looks like, me and a dive partner were in 40 foot confused seas off cape newenham in a 15 ft grand raid with a 35 hp longshaft evinrude, we would get flipped, flip it back over, climb in pull all the gear back in. get the motor going and keep on. we had hd vikings and both just had a blast
Yeah it’s all relative for sure. Sound some wicked seas… glad you’re okay!
'88 The year I graduated.
Nice video and serious conditions. Open water crossings are wild for sure. Im working on a channel myself man keep up the good work!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed! I will check out your vids too man, we got this 💪
You need to listen to Henry Gruver to find out what you might be picking up: Angels chained under Rome & snake Island just a couple
Guess a person has to to find adventure wherever they can
Exactly, there’s always opportunity for adventure if you have the mindset for it!
Where is this island wes.
San Francisco Bay
Did you find a horcrux?
I sure hope not 😳😳
@@WesWherever 🤣
No but he found Yorick
Hi @weswherever , I met you yesterday at China Camp. I am planning to kayak camp at Tomales Bay in a few weeks. Hit me up if you want to join, or if you want pointers on the area. Cheers and happy paddling!
Thanks, definitely sounds like fun and hope I’m able to join! Was cool to meet you on the water… don’t think I caught your name though 😂 -Wesley
Hi im your 91st subsdcriber
Truly appreciate your subscription… welcome aboard!! ☺️
You are in a forest. To the right of you is a grizzly bear, to the left of you is a radical feminist woman. Which direction do you choose?
I’m sorry, dude, but that cave is not cozy😂creepy, yes, cozy no. Not feeling it, my friend.
I guess cozy is relative term 😅
Even more irresponsible than usual. Congratulations.
9:16, Class of 1988, Alright!!
