Sub Up, Port Back, Kerfed Slot Port Stained Plywood Subwoofer Box

- The very long awaited build by many is finally live and direct! The double baffled plywood top mounted subwoofer box with kerfed L ports and kerfed front baffle. Made out of a very expensive Santa Clara marine plywood, exclusively sold at Wilcon Home Depot.
This is a single 12 inch enclosure for the huge Category 7 CSW12-1K XMAX subwoofer! The magnet of this subwoofer is literally almost the diameter of the cutout and weighs about 20 kilos. This enclosure features a kerfed port, and another kerf on the front panel corner, double layered baffle including flush mount, and a beautiful custom dark stain.
If you are interested about the box dimensions, head to this link to TinkerCad schematics: www.tinkercad.com/things/fWPQ...
Finished the box with very dark oak oil wood stain and topped it off with polyurethane varnish to protect the subwoofer enclosure from all kinds of elements.
I am glad I hit the appropriate final tuning and impedance for the box which is 30.24Hz @ 1.51 Ohms on the Dayton Audio DATS v3 and has an acceptable effective bandwidth of 23Hz to 46Hz range.
All panels were screwed down the pocket holes for the upper panel to make them invisible. Lower panel is screwed the traditional way because no one can see the screw heads down below the box.
Assembly time and here goes lugging the very heavy Category 7 CSW12-1K XMAX! The monster of a subwoofer weighs about 20 kilograms, yes that heavy.
I think that is all for today's little show and I hope you all like this project. Let me know what you think by commenting down in the comment section. Thanks and have a nice weekend to all of you. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
This one came out pretty good!
Your works are of high quality, it's not about what you are doing but the dedication.

Funny how I play with my doggies the same way when I'm doing box work👍🐕

Stunning looking. Good work.

You are an absolute master craftsman! I've been in car audio for over 20-years, and may have never seen a better built box....I appreciate your attention to detail! Would love to hear it.
Thanks. 😎🧨
That is absolutely beautiful 🤩

I always wonder know how to make curve bend with plywood. Hmmmm 🤔 now I know.
This is the perfect 👌 enclosure I ever seen. What I appreciate in your work is you give a lot attention on every angle. Inside the cabinet. And your work is clean and remarkable.
I really appreciate your 🐶.

@@chrclmnkymy pleasure✨✨🙂🙂
Couldnt have said it better myself lol
Apparently you've never been to Columbia, Tennessee.
Solid clean work. If your building boxes and don't have a Router, Brad nailer or a table saw to some degree.......your an average subwoofer enclosure builder. I'm not into the Kreig mounting system. Each to there own on that. Also if you have years of fiberglass & resin application under your belt, your a serious enclosure artist. You built that box way beyond any typical subwoofer xmax can dish out.....unless your running a prototype sub that takes 8-10K watts rms.
Good looking box 👍
Thanks a many
Awesome skills 👌... Must have quite a few years building and kerfing 👍
I like your little friend ! great job too.

Beautiful! I'm looking at building a box and the design is what I've been struggling with. But this is the look. I don't have your skill set but sure going to give it a try.
PS. My dog enjoyed seeing yours on the TV.

First: beautiful box! I wasnt sure i wanted to try building one from ply, but this looks incredible and I'm betting sounds amazing.
Second: I would love to see your take on a similar shallow box for spaces like a single cab truck. I'd very much like to replace my kicker comp c box with something that looked like this one.
Now im going to go binge watch the rest of your videos. Awesome work! 🤘
Many thanks. Yes i really want to build box for truck underseat. Hoping for a client that wants one.
Create your logo man !! Love this dude😍

True craftsmanship.. Awesome 👌 a bit worried about the speaker connection.
Thanks GMan
Wow ! Very heavy product....
Yes it is. 👉👍
Great job. Very nice box. But as the guys in the millwork shop I used to work at said. If the glue isn't spewing out, you didn't use enough. ;)
Thanks
Oh, about the glue issue, If you have ever work on oil stains, you don't want any glue to stick where you would put stain or else results will be sh*t.
@@chrclmnky I didn't think about the staining. Very true. Would look like sh*t. Thanks.
someones gotta tell me the math to make those cuts for myself, thats SICK
😎
I'm on my way to getting equipment to start making a few of my own projects. I waste a lot of money or I would have been ready years ago haha.
Go ahead and enjoy. Remember to measure twice and cut once in order to not waste material. 🤘😎
Absolutely 🤬BEAUTIFUL WORK!!!
Wish I could do 1/4 of this craftsmanship
Definitely just inspired me to buy some tools. I need a custom desk for my studio b/c I don’t want to pay $4000 for one that’s not the way I want it
And would love a new box for my sub, just don’t know how I’m gonna get it in the box and not crush my fingers. That’s no baby sized woofer but my deaf bonce 3515 is 70pounds and if I decide to get the 4515, that damn sub is 132pounds!! Why 😂 need more neo motors, 132 pounds for a single sub that isn’t 24inches or larger is crazy
Wow that is a lot of bass going on there. Good luck and enjoy.
love youuuuu
nice box, when you was cutting corners with jig your fingers looked so close to blade!
Thanks. That was normal when doing woodworks.
Do a pillar build next sir please
Ok sir will do once a customer wanting such build. Thanks.
I’ve never seen a sub enclosure built so perfectly, I need one built asap, how do I reach you?
Thanks Charlie but I'm located on the other side of the planet, the Philippines.
What did you use to cover the holes for the bottom part thanks, clean work you a beast! 🔥😎
Thanks. Sorry I really can't remember but I think I didn't cover the holes. I did the pocket hole technique so no screws are visible.
Beautiful, song at the end killed it.
yessir
Dope
👍😎
Walnut stain? Looks real good 👏🏻
Yes. Walnut darken further using some black pigment.
Nice!
I like how the Kerfs came out. How many did you do on each turn 12?
There were about 11-12 kerfs 10mm gap in between kerfs
@@chrclmnky awesome thanks
Top de mais.
😎 bad ass. Do you use stainless bolts for your terminal posts? Wasn’t sure what conducts the best when selecting the bolts.
Hello Tony, thanks for the feedback. The best bolts would be copper, for the purists.. But stainless will just do fine in most cases.
wow.sound demo for that box please😊
Soon.
Обожаю этот канал!
Thanks a many. 😎🍖
@@chrclmnky 😏👍
does it matter whether you put subwoofer on same face of port or the perpendicular of port like in this build?
Sub and port direction doesn't matter.
That is a beautiful box. Did you use a website for the box design? Or did you just go for it lol
Thanks. The website I used is TinkerCad, it is a web based CAD application for free, used in laying out stuff.
What kind of mounting screws did you use for the sub
4mm T nuts
I love this. I would like to suggest one thing to all. Yes, why not make all the diagonal in the box as a fully curved shape...? I saying all the diagonal area of the inside box!!. If it made how will be the output of the sound?
I have comment the above in your old videos kindly consider it
Hello Raju, thanks for the feedback. It is all about aesthetics and efficiency. One cannot sacrifice the other.
@@chrclmnky Definitely. But kindly do like that in your future projects
You didn't show connecting the wires to inside terminals
Top skills 👌do you do design of box's for people?? I'm struggling to come up with a ported box for a fairly small space !
Thanks. Yes this box is for a customer.
@@chrclmnky sorry i ment if someone sent you the specs of a subwoofer would you do the design so the other person could build it ? I'm uk
@@trev815 for $10, schematics will be provided (Tinkercad) and all the data. Email address link in About section. Thanks.
@@chrclmnky awesome 👌🙏
I think you need more screws, I don't think you have enough. Lol wow!!
😎🐱
Boom 🎉
what is the net displacement of the box and port displacement?. thank you!!
There is a link to the TinkerCad 3D schematics in the video description for the dimensions.
what are the things called that u put under the bolt were the sub mounts
T nuts
Beautiful box nice work 💪just wondering if you can tell me where to get cheap inserts?
T nuts? They are available on most online marketplaces.
@@chrclmnky lol yeah T nuts..... didn't realize my phone auto corrected me. It should have said those inserts. And thanks I will check it out.
Mantap 👍😎
Thank you Surya
@@chrclmnky sama sama. 👍
Do you let the glue dry before you put the pocket hole screws in? Why do you choose to do this? I would think it would be better to do it while the glue is still wet? I want to try this method, that’s why I ask
Pocket screwing will move the panels when glue is not dry.
Hey Charcoal Monkey how much port area do you prefer to use on your builds? 12, 16, 18, 24 inches per cube? Thanks mate.
No definite formula. I use Bass Box Pro 6 and WinISD in calculating everything including the vent air velocity per port size and length. Also cone displacement is put into variables, max amp feed into subwoofer, impedance rise, and such significant figures.
@@chrclmnky Wow. Ok. Thanks for your reply.
es pintura o tinta negra lo que le aplicaste? despues lo limpiaste con thinner?
Hello, that was just a dark walnut oil wood stain. I wiped off excess after a few minutes.
How can I get a box made by you? Seriously your work is art
Thanks. I am located here on the other side of the planet, the Philippines.
@@chrclmnky yeah that's OK. Don't matter, how much would you charge to designed and build spl competition box for 2 12" subs?
