She has more talent in her little finger than many other singers, songwriters, musicians and artists have in their entire body. She sings from the most deep of her soul and it shows. I love you Cyn ❤
her live version of "money changes everything" on her paris concert in 1987 cemented her as my all-time favorite vocalist. a rocker at the core, but totally deliver emotions everytime she sings. so underrated.
Cyndi is amazing. She is a Grammy winner. Unlike Madonna who released their first album within a few months of each other in 1984, Cyndi wasn’t ever commercialized, she wrote all of her own music and lyrics! If you’ve ever watched “we are the world” she is in that and sounds great. BTW, please watch that if you haven’t! Also “true colors“ is by far another amazing song you have to hear. 🤍💗 Cyndi! Thank you, Brit!
The 1980’s just would not have been the 1980’s without Cindy Lauper. “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” “Time After Time” and “True Colors” were part of the ether.
I think for many of us our first exposure to Cyndi Lauper was "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and it was easy to dismiss her as a lightweight party girl. When this came out her depth was a pleasant surprise.
You should react to Cyndi Lauper’s best vocals. Her range and vocal ability is really never shown in her recorded songs or even in this beautiful live version.
This was my late niece's favorite song! So beautiful musically and such great, meaningful lyrics!! We lost dear Heather at 18, and it's something that this family has never got over. Rest in peace dear Heather.. a beautiful soul!
LOL: your "Noo Yoiker" impression was spot-on.🤣 The instrument she's playing is an Appalachian Dulcimer. The"party" song that made her famous was "Girls Just Want To have Fun". Time After Time and True Colours were so different from it that I think people (and record company marketing guys) got confused and didn't know which pigeon hole to put her in, to the detriment of her career.
Just wait until you hear her sing "I Drove All Night". Originally recorded by Roy Orbison, but not released until after his death. Cyndi released her version, and it's so haunting and seductive. You can hear Cyndi's speaking voice on the music video for "Goonies R Goid Enough".
Seeing Cyndi perform live is an amazing experience. Her voice is SO strong and versatile, and her range is insane. She is better live even than she is on record. She also plays quite a few instruments. People thought she was a joke when she first came out because of how she speaks, but people took notice when that voice came out of her. She is starting her final retirement tour soon, and I will see her in November.
I grew up listening to country, but when I heard this song for the first time in 1983, I said if this is considered rock, I'll give rock a chance. That was the day I started listening to modern (pop) rock. Still remember it like it was yesterday. Cyndi's life-changing. :)
I'm astonished that I somehow didn't know this existed. I remember when the original came out and was everywhere, but this thoughtful, intimate performance is so far above the version that I've known and loved all these years, I almost don't know how to react. THANK YOU for reacting to THIS version that I don't think I would have ever heard otherwise.
@@peterburrell007You are correct. I went to the full video without the difficulty of seeing the instrument in the corner of Britt’s screen. It is a dulcimer. My cousin makes his own. My brother who lives in the Great Dismal Swamp in NC plays one extremely well. I happen to be quad-racial, black, white, Native including Melungeon, and Jewish Turkish. My relatives have several different looking dulcimers. They actually play them together for some phenomenal harmonies.
Man I am old, it boggles my mind that anyone would not immediately know this song was Cyndi's originally lol, guess that is a given growing up in the 80s, you couldnt avoid this song if you wanted to, and who would;) Such an underutilized talent, I wish they would of let her really show her true voice back in the day, I am so glad we get it now.
Right now it mind blowing 🤯 to think that you have never heard of Cyndi’s original version if this song , it was one of the biggest hits in the 80’s , still played today , in movies , tv shows , commercials, you had to have heard it in restaurants and grocery stores and drug stores, or some where? 😟😟😟😟🤯🤯🤯 , after all if this time I thought you had reacted to it , so now that must be your next video, the original muisc video of Time After Time..
This was the first vinyl album I ever owned. The whole album is great! Ms. Lauper is an absolute original. There is no one like her anywhere. She has one of those voices that you just learn to recognize and is well worth listening to if you aren't familiar with her work.
This is my childhood in many ways, I remember hearing Cindy on Girls Just Want to Have Fun, and then in the movie of my childhood, The Goonies, with Good Enough
There are so many singers out there that are unbelievably talented that people just don't seem to realize. Give yourself time you'll hear them all. Cyndi sure has a special and unique voice. One of those that you only need to hear a few words and you know it is Cyndi singing!
Thank you for sharing this performance. The studio version is one of my favorite songs, but this version may actually be better, because Cyndi is taking time to find all the colors in the song, and she is SO good at that
Thank you for this video, Cyndi is so awesome. Been getting real tired of people ragging on her about her part in We Are The World lately; she doesn't just have a cool unique voice, she's also an awesome human being with her humanitarian work.
Cindy was always known as a great singer!! What do you mean, we didn't tell you? NOW you have to listen to her version of Etta James's "At Last," recorded in the 2000's. A magnificent masterpiece that will blow your mind. BRB with the link.
Cindy has serious pipes. This version of the song, as beautiful as it is doesn't even approach what Cindy can do with her voice. Regardless of what you said, I will recommend another version of this song. Its Cyndi singing a live duet with Miss Patti LaBelle from 1985 I think (they've performed this song together several times through the years, I'm referring to their first time doing it). Its one of the most powerful vocal performances I've ever experienced.
The word you are looking for is Melancholy. So both happy and sad ;) It's a fantastic video and I hope you see what talent this Lady has we were so blessed in the 80's & 90's!
Cyndi is such a truly unique and singular talent and an absolutely wonderful human being on top of that. The song Moves me every single time I hear it.
Hey Britt Cindy was one of my old favorites. Today she's a real humanitarian and wonderful person. Her style in the day got her criticized. But she's truly a lovely lady.
One of the great songwriters and performers of her generation (and since) - and no cover will ever match the understanding that comes with actually creating a melody.
This spectacular song was covered by Eva Cassidy who took it several notches up the scale. Lauper's own cover, however, could never be replaced. But Cassidy's version easily sits as an equal. I could encourage you to check it out! Britt, I so appreciate your reactions. What a grand heart you have!
In 2018 I had tickets to see her with Rod Stewart, but he had a throat issue and she wasn't available to reschedule. I was primarily going to see her, he was gravy.
I saw her sing a Joni Mitchell song in front of her and really impressed Joni. impressed me too. Other artists did Joni songs, at her honoring by other artists. She's a very good singer. She was best of all.

The music I grew up with. Cyndi Lauper was on the radio a lot back then. As was Seonaid O'Conner with Nothing compares to you. This binrgs back memories and I'll make sure to put them in my suitcase.
A dulcimer is the instument she's playing. The gentleman mentioned it at the beginning of the film clip. It's in the zither family and mainly from the Appalachian mountains. The song you're trying to think of is "Girls Just Want to Have Fun".
The ancient origins of the dulcimer are undoubtedly in the Near East, where instruments of this type have been made and played for perhaps 5000 years. Santir and psanterim were names early applied to such instruments and are probably derived from the Greek psalterion. All the best from England.
A must see, Cyndi Lauper and Patti LaBelle performing 'Time after Time's in 1985 on Patti LaBelle Show. True Colors another great song, and one of my favorite songs by her and the music video is my favorite from all Cyndi videos.
When Cyndi first came on the scene I was working with a woman who said she used to own a deli with her husband. She said when Cyndi was a little girl she would come by and pick up groceries. While she was waiting for the groceries to be put together Cyndi would belt out a song and as soon as everything was ready she was gone just as fast as she arrived.
I lived in Manhattan when she and Madonna were emerging. I always thought Cyndi had much more talent. She must have lived near me cuz I used to see her walking down the street. Love her.

Cindy is one of the most underrated singers of her time. For some reason Madonna was considered great while Cindy was ignored by so many.
Cyndi has a way better voice than Madonna, Madonna was only more popular because she pushed harder by MTV.
Madonna is a phenomenal performer, but she can't touch Cyndi as a singer.
Cindy was so much better that Madonna…
Cindy Lauper is such an incredible artist…”true colours”…you will love it

Definitely, most people remember her as the Betty boop of the 80s when she’s one of the most talented vocalists of that period in music
The song from the Goonies also!!
Cyndi Lauper "I'M GONNA BE STRONG" is a song that needs to be checked out!! Cyndi is so INCREDIBLE!!
Cyndi was always very underrated. One of the most unique styles and voices from the 80s.
You should react to Cyndi Lauper’s best vocals. Her range and vocal ability is really never shown in her recorded songs or even in this beautiful live version.
My favorite Lauper song. I understand why some people here want the original studio version, but I’m with you, Britt. This is truly beautiful.
It's a dulcimer.
old time mountain instrument
appalachian dulcimer to be precise
Britt, I agree with you, this is better than the studio version. Great song, great reaction.
This was my late niece's favorite song! So beautiful musically and such great, meaningful lyrics!! We lost dear Heather at 18, and it's something that this family has never got over. Rest in peace dear Heather.. a beautiful soul!

Don't forget "She Bop" which, if they ever understood, would have gotten banned.
Her original version is flawless! One of the greatest songs of the 80’s. The video is also flawless
The video isn't just flawless, it is an amplifier.
the instrument is a Mountain Dulcimer (as opposed to a hammer dulcimer)... very unique sounding instrument from Appalachia.

Cyndi is the truth, and you’re right about her accent! Ozone Park, Queens! Home girl.
A drag artist who's performance partner went out on a prolonged drug relapse sang this for them when they came back to earth.
Girls just wanna have fun, is what you're thinking of. She's a delight in her uniqueness, just like you kid. ;) BTW, she's playing a dulcimer
She’s playing an autoharp, not a dulcimer. I have relatives who make dulcimers. It’s an Appalachian thing.
