As a huge Hair band guy in the 80’s I despised this song and pretty much everything done by her. It wasn’t until later in life when I realized what a unique and beautiful voice this woman has. Not only that she is as genuine and as sweet a person as she portrays in her videos. I spent 23 years as a catering chef, I won’t name the company I worked for but I worked the Hollywood Bowl every summer, and had a chance to meet her. Now I’m a forever fanboy of hers.

This was a big MTV favorite. Her mom was really Cyndi's real mom and her "dad" was Captain Lou Albano of WWF fame.

The 80s weren’t all that fun. Between the threat of nuclear annihilation and aids, it was pretty dark actually. That’s why this kind of music was popular, it was a pressure valve. It’s hard to overstate just how radical Lauder was, in the Madonna era, when women were expected to flaunt their sexuality and advertise their availability, Lauder refused, and swam directly upstream, rejecting the expected gender role and celebrating women’s power and agency. A true pioneer. Utterly original.

Listen to She Bop to see if you guys can figure whats its about lol. Madonna, Prince, MJ, Cyndi Lauper, The Bengals, LIONEL Ritchie, RUN DMC, Beastie Boys, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, NWA to name just some of the 80s singers and bands that put out hit after hit after hit. This song was very powerful song for women when it first came out in the 80s because it was a enpowerment song for women! And Am 47 so was born in 74 and i got to grow up doing a great time before Technology destroyed the imaginations of kids and made generation lazy!

This song was a huge huge hit. This is her signature song. The song that made her big. My favorite is time after time.

This is a female empowerment song. You can see the Spice Girls getting inspired by this song when they were young.

The 80s were fun. Music videos started. They weren't serious. People were making music cause they liked it. Less for money. Somehow politics didn't seem so dire. It seemed like The People were still going to be ok. And everyone was experimenting with techno music

Rest in Peace Catrine Lauper the mother of Cyndi Lauper who past away a few days ago. She starred in this music video as Cyndi's mother while also appearing in some other music videos as well.

I saw Cyndi in concert when her "She's So Unusual" album was exploding. She held off doing this song until the end, then recruited girls from the audience to join her in a conga line and sing "They just wanna, they just wannnnaaaaaa". She led them on stage then up and down the aisles of the theater. Great way to end the show!

At least here in the UK, this was her first single, and she was a true force of nature, unlike anyone else we had ever seen. When music took itself far too seriously, and it really did in the early 80's, she came along and made everything fun.

80s was the start of the dance clubs when me and my gal pals would go out and party! Cyndi Lauper kind of had a Betty Boop voice, but man could she belt! This one was a fun one!

She was one of the few, along with Michael Jackson, Billy Idol, Boy George, Motley Crue and Willie Nelson that David Lee Roth parodied in his 'Just a Gigolo' video. I'd say that somewhat shows her popularity as an 80's 'icon'.

"Time After Time" is another classic song by Cyndi Lauper. One of the greatest love ballads. It really showcases her versatility & vocals especially when compared to this song. She's definitely underrated and was neck & shoulders above other pop singers of her era.

Cyndi's voice had a wide vocal range. That was her real mother in the video. She had more personality than all the female singers of today put together. This song saved my life.

"Girls Just Want to Have Fun" is a song written, recorded and performed by American musician Robert Hazard in the late 1970s. However, I think Cyndi"s version captures the true essence of the song.

Songs (and videos) like this really remind you how wonderful the 80s were. What may seem 'silly' by today's youth was pure magic back then. Cindy Lauper really has an incredible voice, and this video exploded on radio and MTV back in the day. A truly classic song and video. This was almost 40 years ago. Wow. I'm gonna play 'Time" by Pink Floyd now. I want my MTV back!
