And, even though many people HATED the movie Xanadu (I’m not one of them…I know, don’t crucify me), need to include “I’m Alive”, “Don’t Walk Away” and “All Over The World”.
@@davexenos9196 I think she meant the 'technological' sounds that the song utilized. I'll also add that ELO was quite technical in their approach to sound/instrument mixing.
I agree that her sister has great taste in music, and she should return the favor by introducing her to the Moody Blues, since she already mentioned them.
I love seeing young adults of today appreciating and loving the music we were fortunate to grow up with. I was born in 63 so ELO was smack bang in my teens in Australia. I used to have that album on cassette and played it to death in my car. They had so many great hits. Great reaction ladies. ❤
Jeff Lynne is a musical genius, writer, performer and producer. John Lennon stated once that ELO were the baby Beatles. Jeff was also part of the biggest super group of all time The Traveling Wilburys.
She should react to the Wilburys! P.S. the Wilburys got their name when they were in the studio and had a problem with one of their master tracks and instead of recording it , someone suggested that"We'll just bury it " in the music . P S I enjoy your sister. Thanks for the reaction!!!
A beautiful part of the phone opening was that he really wasn’t talking to her, he was actually just talking to himself practicing what he would say to her if she would just answer the phone. That alone is just such an amazing way to start a story.
I've been an ELO fan for around 48 years, they were by far the best UK band of the 70's and 80's. Girls you're at the tip of the iceberg, the ELO experience is a deeply emotional journey. God bless and thank you both for the video xo
Actually, Telephone Line was huge hit throughout the world. It charted everywhere. It was their second biggest hit on the biggest chart in the world, The US Billboard Chart. Don't Bring Me Down was their biggest hit and Telephone was their second biggest in hit in the US,
I remember when Don't Bring Me Down was on the charts, it debuted at #17 in its first week on the top 40. At the time, I had never known a song to debut that high on the single charts.
I saved my change and went to the five and dime Woolworths in 1974 to buy the 45 single of this song, and played it over and over again. lots of good songs already mentioned, but listen to their song “do it“
I appreciate Amy's perspective on ELO. She seems to be very thoughtful, careful and precise in how she phrases her comments. Amy also integrates her own life.....emotions into the music in which she listens. She makes the connection clear and understandable. Well done.
I buried that song on CD at my wife’s grave after everyone left the service. Watch the live version and you will understand, we are/were the same age range as some of the audience reactions.
Strong message. I just have to tell you this, please take time to check it up! Wery few know what the Bible actually has promised us all this time. Look up Revelation 20;13 and see a part of it. Your sisters reactions are just perfect . No theatrical over reaction or wild movements, just enough. She has a sweet calm manner and intelligent feedback.
For younger people who might not understand, he is on a payphone speaking to an operator, who is manually dialing in the call. Long distance calls were very expensive back then, and you wouldn't have that much change in your pocket, so the operator had to take a credit card number to bill you for the call. He wants to sit there and let it ring, and the operator is likely not trying to waste her time while he does it. (Yes, it was always a her. That's just how things were then, fair or not.)
Yes! And I remember telling the operator the number you wanted to call, and her telling you how much money to put into the phone. When she'd heard the right number of coins drop then she's put the call through for a specific amount of time. Then she'd cut you off if you began to go over the time.
@@DerekDominoes The line: "Okay, so no one's answering Well, can't you just let it ring a little longer, longer, longer?" He isn't asking permission of himself, to sit there and let it ring. If he was at home on a land line, he wouldn't be speaking to the operator simply to make a phone call. As I said, young people wouldn't understand these things. I don't even know if operators even exist anymore.
Never heard of ELO?! SERIOUSLY?!!! CLASSIC BAND!!! Most bands today have NO CLUE how to create music as harmonic, melodic and as simply BEAUTIFUL as ELO...
Hello Stacy and Amy! This is my first time on the channel. I was drawn in by your ELO selection. When I heard Amy's perceptive recommendation for big sister, I was with you 100%. I enjoyed so very much the insightful comments from both of you throughout the song. I am an old man, and it is refreshing to hear someone from your generation express appreciation for this music that I have loved for years. When Stacy referenced a similarity to Pink Floyd, and then mention a number of their songs, I could have cried! I simply loved your reaction. Here's wishing you both all the best.
Imagine her getting his produced songs for George Harrison, Tom Petty, Paul McCartney, Roy Orbison, Beatles, Traveling Wilburys, Bryan Adams, Del Shannon….. so many gems
This is a brilliant song that has made me cry in the past because of certain situations in my life at the time. I have always loved it as with the rest of their songs too.
This song has the strange ability to soothe and burn at the same time. It has this beautiful loneliness. I saw ELO just this past October on what will be their last tour. The first few bars of “Telephone Line” and I was in tears. Jeff Lynne is a genius.
Not the first ELO song I ever heard, but one of them, and the one that I first truly loved. So well written, so relatable, gorgeous instrumentation. One of the greatest bands of the 70's/80s.
I concur with your sister. "Mr Blue Sky" is my favorite ELO song. "Don't Bring Me Down", "Evil Woman", "Sweet Talkin' Woman" and "Can't Get It Out of My Head" are right up there too.
@@mikemiller3069 Mustn't leave off "Turn to Stone!" The rapid fire lyrical delivery before the final verse would be a pleasure to watch Stacy react to!
ELO was my favorite group back in Jr. High back in like 75'. This song contrasts so much with today, call someone and they don't pick up and you text and it still might take hours or days!
A most underrated group from my era (1970s), greatest decade of music. A lot of hits, and they actually perform with violins and cellos, etc. I believe they're still performing today. You both have terrific taste and analysis.
They’ve just completed “ Over and Out” tour of the US and Canada. I will be watching one of their last concerts in Manchester, UK on July 10. Super excited! I missed their tour of Australia so I will definitely not miss this one!
It is so joyful watching younger people discovering and appreciating the music of my youth. So blessed to see firsthand the music of the 60s and 70s evolve in real time, the best music of the last 75 years. 80's and 90's go hard too, but the mid 60s & 70's reign supreme for me. The creativity, experimentation, innovation, and freedom of that music is soul warming, unmatched by any music since.
Good job, AMY!!! I'm an old man -- when this song came out, I was about 10 and my teen-aged older sister and her friend grabbed my brother and me and had us come inside and listen to "Telephone Line" they were so anxious to share it. We were all stunned. and listened to it over and over and over. One thing that still blows my mind about Jeff Lynne's songwriting (he's also the singer here), especially with ELO, is that the so-called "back-up' singing doesn't repeat/reflect what the lead vocal is saying, it's actually more of a back and forth, and the 'back-up' adds more lyric information. The drummer for ELO, Bev Bevan was in a band with one of the Moody Blues when they were teens. They're from the same area of England. In the late 80s/early 90s Jeff Lynne became a MAJOR record producer and is currently on farewell tour as Jeff Lynne's ELO. Also, to my mind, it's funny you mention Star Wars because this album came out before the first Star Wars movie; but my 10/11 year old self used to listen to ELO while playing with my Star Wars toys.
You and your sister are full of shining beauty from the inside and outside. Thank you for this video to see you both showing feelings and showing who you are. 🥰🥰🥰
Underated??? ELO has sold more than 50 million records worldwide. ELO was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. ELO had the highest-grossing concert tour in history (at that point) in 1978. ELO was the first band to sell out London's Wembley Arena for eight nights in a row (also in 1978).10 mars 2018
I'm so blessed to have you and your sister share this moment with me. I seen ELO in the 70s along with a lot of great bands. So thanks, for the memories!!!Keep up the good work??
The beauty, the brains, the excellent musical taste... what an impressive pair of sisters. ELO is a path you should go down, Stacey. Their music is happiness in sound form. Even when they are singing about something sad, the music is just pure joy.
A wonderful song from an amazing LP. I was 15 years old when "A New World Record" was released. I've loved ELO ever since. I hope you'll become a fan too!
This song makes me cry and smile at the same time. I played this song at my late wife’s remembrance ceremony. I was also about your sister’s age when this album came out. I still have it. I’m happy she has found ELO.
As someone who grew up with ELO, I’m so happy to see young ladies who like this music period (best ever) & want to show it to others. This gives me hope for the future of music.
@stevesearl2925 all of their albums were a special transition. Their soundtrack contributions to Xanadu. The Travelling Willbury's as a super group collaboration.
This is huge hit for ELO, To better understand it watch live version at Wembley Stadium 2017. I first listen to this in the 1970's. I was in grade School..Has a melancholy, nostalgic, felling, I think about Loves found and lost...😃😟
I was born in 1963 so about your age. ELO was renown for their spectacular live shows. Lead singer Jeff Lynne recently toured with his new ELO lineup. Still has a great light show. Edit: strange how these sisters didn’t grow up sharing music unless they grew up living in different households.
The live version (Live from Wembley stadium) is even better. This was a big hit back in the day. Mr. Blue Sky, and Sweet Talkin' Woman are two more you will love.
ELO IS ONE OF THE GREATEST & MOST UNDERRATED BANDS EVER!!! SUCH A ARRAY OF DIFFERENT SONGS THAT YOU WILL LOVE & EACH SONG STANDS OUT IN IT'S OWN WAY & SO UNIQUE BUT SO CATCHY, SLOW SONGS,UP BEAT SONGS, SONGS TO DANCE TO, JEFF LYNE HAS A CLASSIC VOICE!!! BALLADS, IT'S LIKE ELO SONGS TAKE YOU TO ANOTHER DIMENSION!!! RELAXING SONGS, SONGS TO DANCE TO, SUCH POWERFUL LYRICS, MELLOW SONGS, SONGS YOU CAN JUST PUT ON THEIR SONGS & LISTEN TO THEM & GO TO SLEEP SMILING!!! AND ALL THE COMBINATION OF ALL THE INSTRUMENTS & ARRANGEMENTS IS PURE GENIUS!!! SUCH A UNIQUE BAND!!! NOT HAVING THEIR GREATEST HITS IS A BIG BIG MISTAKE!!! AS ONE ON THEIR SONGS THAT DESCRIBES THEM IS " THEY GOT A ( STRANGE MAGIC)". THANK YOU ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA!!! ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
Me being a littel older, 64 years old. Still to this day I believe ELO was the best concert I ever attended. The light show was amazing and knowing every song was just a dream. Thanks for bringing back some memories.
We are the same age. I went to see ELO several times in the late 1970s at the old Boston Garden. One time I had front and center floor seats in the tenth row. You could see the strings on the cello and violin bows fraying as the concert went on.
Imagine being an eleven year old child, back in ‘77, when Out Of The Blue dropped, and you dress as Jeff Lynne for Halloween? No one knew who I was, and I was devastated 😂
Jeff Lynne & ELO are doing their final ever shows this Spring, he is now almost 80 years old. They are what the Beatles would have become if the Beatles had not broke up, it was either John Lennon or George Harrison of the Beatles that actually once said that
Love how these young girls are discovering this great music from the 70s. I've always loved E.L.O. they have so many other great songs too. Moody Blues are great too. Mellow relaxing sounds.
You guys are great together. ELO and Jeff Lynne are truly one of the most unique and skilled British 70's invasion bands so good on your sis. Saw them twice live. Would love to see your reaction to Jeff and a few of his friends (Tom Petty, Steve Winwood and Prince included) doing a wonderful live rendition of George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" (just search for it). Cheers.
It was actually one of their biggest hits- - #7 on the US Billboard in 1977, #8 UK, number one in other countries. I was on the top 100 for 23 weeks. But you should also listen to Twilight, I Can't Get It Out Of My Head, and Strange Magic - all hits, that are in the same haunting, moving, emotional vein. Also Hold on Tight to Your Dreams, and Evil Woman, more up tempo. Your sister is precious - 😁😁
I'll add Cant Get It Out Of My Head, Need Her Love, Midnight Blue, Strange Magic, Dont Bring Me Down, Rock Aria, Sweet Talking Woman, Horace Wimp, Rock and Roll Is King and Hold On Tight 😁
This is so cool that you listen to this. I was listening to this music when I was 16-17 years old when it first came out when they were on the top of the charts in the United States and my favorites can’t get it out of my head, but it’s so cool that you hear what I heard then, the Genius ofJeff Lynn
Not really unique, but they are very good. Jeff Lynne was heavily influenced by The Beatles, who of course combined strings and rock instruments on tracks like I Am The Walrus, Strawberry Fields Forever etc.
Fun fact from one of us "old Shcoolers". Back in the dsy, the phone used to be attached to the wall of the home **widespread gasps and the audience shows us their shocked faces** and when you dialed someones number, the sound you heard was EXACTLY as portrayed in the song. That is literally what it sounded like. What alchemy is this you say? It's called, "memory". A powerful spell indeed. :)
Lil' sis is ON IT! Seems like a true "old soul" You two are great together! Keep up the good vibes Stacey, always a bright spot when watching your videos! 😍
These guys have been in so many movies. Telephone line has a lot of meaning for me, it was a popular song when I was a little kid in 70's. Electric Light Orchestra was really popular in the 70's and 80's. For extra credit- look up the Travelling Wilbury's with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynn (Lead singer of ELO), Bob Dylan, George Harrison, and Roy Orbison. ALSO if you want to check something else out- check out the movie Xanidou with a soundrack by ELO and Olivia Newton John. The movie iself stinks, but the music is indicitive of the late 70s.
Back in the day when you had to contact people on a landline so you really didn’t know if they were there or not. Experienced that scenario myself on more than one occasion. Love ELO ❤
One of the main reasons that I love reaction videos. I know this song very well but I feel like I'm hearing it for the first time thanks to you. Thank you for listening
Very glad to see you both enjoying this amazing band from early in my introduction to music. I saw Hall and Oates open for them around 1983. Keep it up!
We were lucky enough to catch them on tour earlier this year; their final tour. Every song was a banger and everyone knew the words. Jeff Lynn sounded great though looks a bit frail these days. I bought this album when it first came out and it took nearly 50 years before I caught them live. It's an experience I'll never forget.
Love how you are so descriptive of how it makes you feel. I first heard this album when I was 12, and I'm now 60. I have always been a big fan. I got to see Jeff Lynne's ELO about 10 years ago. It was so emotional for me to see them live after all that time. It took me right back to being that 12 year old listening to them back then. Magnificent !
Just got this recommendation. ❤ ELO. Yes, indeed Jeff Lynne is a musical genius. Even written the Orchestra to every song note by note. I'm so happy that YT even has the complete Zoom Tour Video. Thanks for reminding me to put this on my rotation once again.
One of the last commercial appearances of Lynne was playing while my guitar gently weeps with the star lineup consisting of the late Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, with the mind blowing finale riff of Prince. Memorable performance
The imitation sounds of the telephone central office switchgear taking place before the phone rings, along with the muted voice and the sound of the connection make this song so realistic and so memorable!
Agree, my sister hates ELO just for this reason “They are just ripping off the Beatles “ she doesn’t see it as taking a type off music and doing further exploration of the type
@@helllied6989 the thing is, one of the Beatles (I don’t remember for certain which one, but I’m wanting to say it was Paul) said that if the Beatles had continued into the 70’s, ELO’s sound was basically what direction they would have probably gone in.
Songs from my high school days. Love the creativity from those days. ELO, Queen, and so many more weren't afraid to break away from the norms with their music.❤❤

This gives me hope for the future of music.
stevenredmond7455 I was there also, but the "growing up" part .At 66 years old I'm still working on that.
E. L. O. is the beginning of a new journey, just like Pink Floyd was a year ago..
This is a very good assessment!
She has so many journeys to take
She's a world traveler....
Turn to Stone is a must.
The whole Out of the Blue is a must. I still own a jet pressing of that album
Just make sure the headphones are on and crank it to 11 !
MUST🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
“Can’t Get It Out of My Head” probably my fav from ELO though I like many of their songs.
"Can't Get It Out Of My Head" is a song you'll have to listen to.
The older ELO was something. I am sure u have listen to Eldorado.👍
@stevesearl2925 all of their albums were a special transition. Their soundtrack contributions to Xanadu. The Travelling Willbury's as a super group collaboration.
This and Laredo Tornado my two favorites from the album.
My 25 year daughter is also a huge ELO fan. Their music is timeless. Excellent taste in music Amy!!
This is huge hit for ELO, To better understand it watch live version at Wembley Stadium 2017. I first listen to this in the 1970's. I was in grade School..Has a melancholy, nostalgic, felling, I think about Loves found and lost...😃😟
I like the 2016 Glastonbury myself.

I was born in 1963 so about your age. ELO was renown for their spectacular live shows. Lead singer Jeff Lynne recently toured with his new ELO lineup. Still has a great light show.
Edit: strange how these sisters didn’t grow up sharing music unless they grew up living in different households.
@@Spec-FiveCarr Wow.. Nice..thanks for link
Love this my all time fav group ELO is one fantastic orchestra their music is so different and thank you for discovering them!
The live version (Live from Wembley stadium) is even better. This was a big hit back in the day. Mr. Blue Sky, and Sweet Talkin' Woman are two more you will love.
Personally my favorite ELO song is Don't Bring Me Down but I've always loved ELO. In fact I've seen them in concert back in the 80s
Absolutely!
I saw them in the 70s been to 70, 75 concerts most where really good, but ELO was on a whole other level
Imagine being an eleven year old child, back in ‘77, when Out Of The Blue dropped, and you dress as Jeff Lynne for Halloween? No one knew who I was, and I was devastated 😂
very nice choice, i am 61 and ELO is one of my favorite bands. Thanks girls.Jérôme from France
Just saw them in Atlanta, They were one of my wifes favs.
Jeff Lynne & ELO are doing their final ever shows this Spring, he is now almost 80 years old. They are what the Beatles would have become if the Beatles had not broke up, it was either John Lennon or George Harrison of the Beatles that actually once said that
Nice smile on lil sis face telling it like I told you you’d be impressed
Love how these young girls are discovering this great music from the 70s. I've always loved E.L.O. they have so many other great songs too. Moody Blues are great too. Mellow relaxing sounds.
I was at the 'Out Of The Blue ' Concert at Wembley London.....
First time with Lasers...
What a night...
The entire Time album = perfection. Every song is amazing.
Cheers.
Sis knows when the kicker arrives... Great taste young lady.
I really liked your sister’s comments, and the interesting dynamic between you both. You should have her on more often!
Tightrope, Mr. Blue Sky, Turn To Stone, Steppin' Out, So Fine, Livin' Thing, Do Ya, Shine A Little Love, Evil Woman....all good stuff.
I'll add Cant Get It Out Of My Head, Need Her Love, Midnight Blue, Strange Magic, Dont Bring Me Down, Rock Aria, Sweet Talking Woman, Horace Wimp, Rock and Roll Is King and Hold On Tight 😁
"That's what I'd say. I'd tell you everything if you'd pick up that telephone." Heart wrenching:(
This is so cool that you listen to this. I was listening to this music when I was 16-17 years old when it first came out when they were on the top of the charts in the United States and my favorites can’t get it out of my head, but it’s so cool that you hear what I heard then, the Genius ofJeff Lynn
They are unique in the world of music; strings and rock instruments combine to create a beautiful sound.
Not really unique, but they are very good. Jeff Lynne was heavily influenced by The Beatles, who of course combined strings and rock instruments on tracks like I Am The Walrus, Strawberry Fields Forever etc.
I love when the younger generation captures the genius of these classic bands of the 70’s.
Imagine how I felt when I heard it back in 77 when I just got out of high school😊
Shout out to Bev Bevan for great drumming on this track!
he played drums on Black Sabbath, eternal idol too (1987)
Great song, very nice reaction, really cool to see you and your sister sharing the gift of music together!
ELO is superb. Jeff Lynne is one of the great musicians. Any project he's part of is bound to be top shelf. So cool to have Amy as a guest star!
You can tell by the look on Amy's face that she has personally lived this song. ☎️
Just got this recommendation. ❤ ELO. Yes, indeed Jeff Lynne is a musical genius. Even written the Orchestra to every song note by note. I'm so happy that YT even has the complete Zoom Tour Video. Thanks for reminding me to put this on my rotation once again.
If you saw Guardians of the Galaxy 2 you heard "Mr. Blue Sky" at the beginning of the movie.
Ok Stacey and Amy won the generic lottery.
Telephone Line is my go to ELO song
I think genetic is the word you wanted cos there is nothing generic about their looks.
ELO took over and advanced exactly where the Beatles left off. Some of the similarities are breath-taking.
Some say that Jeff Lynne is the fifth Beatle.
ELO is heads and shoulders above the Beatles
Agree, my sister hates ELO just for this reason “They are just ripping off the Beatles “ she doesn’t see it as taking a type off music and doing further exploration of the type
@@helllied6989 the thing is, one of the Beatles (I don’t remember for certain which one, but I’m wanting to say it was Paul) said that if the Beatles had continued into the 70’s, ELO’s sound was basically what direction they would have probably gone in.
I feel so fortunate to have spent the 70s as a teenager. It is still my favorite era for Rock-n-Roll.
Yes 👍👍
Songs from my high school days. Love the creativity from those days. ELO, Queen, and so many more weren't afraid to break away from the norms with their music.❤❤
