- In this video I discuss how to measure a belt and the different ways manufacturers may measure belts. This video teaches you how to be sure what size belt you are buying or using and to be sure you have the proper fitting belt. Also belts can be made shorter by adding a hole with a leather hole punch. This is not the optimal way to make a belt shorter. Kevin Rudy you should do it to your Gucci belt if needed. The belt I am holding in the video is $850 one piece crocodile. I have done this to 100s of belts over the years in my shops. The most expensive was $1250. Not about price, just if you want to have a correctly fitting belt. I am sure no one in the Gucci store knows how to do this properly. I know they don’t in their largest store in the world right here in NYC on Fifth Ave. Works every time. Remember to measure twice, cut once.

Very Useful video thank you Suitcafe., I brought one time a belt but now i totally forgot my measurements. the back of my Gucci belt indicates some numbers 90 - 36 Now... I'm guessing 90 is CM and the 36 is inches ? My waist line is like 36 ? so.... the belt i brought seems correct sizes. But if i want to buy a brand new Hermes Belt for example (men sizes) do i always select the same as the Gucci belt as in 90 - 36 ? Just like the Gucci belt indicates on the back print 90 - 36
Sometimes charts can be so confusing and when you buy a sizes belt sometimes websites don't have a full correct measurement guidance sometimes websites might have a 1 or 2 cm differences then what the other website is telling you for the measurements so its confusing... I wished i could remember what sizes i have to get was it a 95 belt sizes or a 100 belt sizes or a 105 belt sizes.. So if the belt i have indicates 90-36 is that a 95belt sizes or something? Usually when you look at the charts they always show things like 95Euro or 100 or 105 and above
However i don't have a measurement because it cuts to 90 on a measurement tape. But when i measure my Gucci belt it is much longer full length it looks like my full length for my belt is like 115cm full length So if my belt indicates 90-36 this means i have to buy the 115full length belt is that correct ? or maybe the 110 in full length. I don't no that's why its confusing. But my waist line is like 36 sometimes i might end up just 34. But i don't want a lengthy belt but don't want a short belt. Just want it perfectly correct sizes. Let me know thank you sorry for the confusing :) Who knows maybe ill just buy the same belt number that shows on the back of the belt 90-36 and stick to that maybe ? I do tight my belt little hard which ends up making me a 34 rather then a 36
Michelle Manzanero thanks for your post. You perfectly explain how confusing belt measurements can be. Your 90 Gucci belt is in cm. Usually a 90 belt is a 34 & 95 a 36, however it all depends where Gucci is measuring from. Is it the full belt length or from the middle hole where you would want to wear the belt to have the perfect overlap. Hermes belts usually have a detachable buckle so again do they measure the full length or not. 100cm or 105 will be too large for you based on what you have mentioned above. I would assume most European design houses are measuring the actual piece of leather end to end & not the buckle. Does your Gucci 90cm for the way you like? Hermes is French & Gucci Italian they may not measure the same way. I would think a 95cm strap (not including buckle) would be more a 36 inch belt. @@suitcafe Thank you very much for that Information. I will also check out the other video and subscribe to you. Looks like you have some watches review and all that stuff which i also love to know. Meanwhile since it is after all some what confusing with different sizes belt and so on from different manufactures Hermes... Gucci so on. I just ordered a Hermes but the website indicates select which is your full sizes belt instead of the sizes of the waist line. So i selected the 115cm full length of the belt (Hermes) I only measured this because my current belt Gucci brand the full length of my Gucci belt is indeed 115cm full length. So to that i select that number of full length of the belt for the Hermes. When i receive this eventually i will determine either this Hermes belt was exactly the correct sizes for me or the wrong sizes. Compare them side by side with Gucci belt and the Hermes belt.
I wont buy anything further until i reveice this just to be 100% sure either i got the correct sizes or the wrong sizes... So that will some what help me if the full length of the belt 115cm was correct or wrong. I only measured this full length only because i have a Gucci belt and it seems to fit me correct.. So i thought i would go with that. But then again Gucci belt has holes while Hermes has 1 hole because the Hermes buckle is one of those detachable buckle like you mentioned.... Because the holes from the Gucci is a little further in the belt while the Hermes belt has 1 hole at the very end of the belt or closer at the end of the starting point. Anyhow once i receive this i will find out. But if its the wrong one i can return it back and know that a 115 full length belt was wrong... Of course i wouldn't want the end of the belt to dangle out been too long but not too short.
So since i might know the sizes of my Gucci belt next time i need to buy a new one.. But the Hermes belt is new thing for me so the measurements can be slightly different all together..
And yes some sites would mention the EUR number and all that numerous. It's new for me wearing quality type belts.. In the past when i was a bit younger i used to buy any random cheap belts at the store.. and notice why one belt was much longer then the other one i brought.. So this time i have to be careful to get the correct sizes as the belts im buying nowadays are more Premium designs and they are premium price $. So as i was saying Gucci belt has more holes so the holes are further back in the belts while a Hermes belt if not mistaken has just 1 hole and that hole is very close to the end of the tipping point of the belt. So if the 115cm full length of the Hermes belt is too long i will return it more likely. But i will then determine which shorter i should get and repeat the shopping list. We all learn something new... perhaps much easier and more making sure in store but doing this online and measure it with a measuring tape can lead to sometimes incorrect sizes. But that all depends..
Anyhow i will check your videos as im also interesting things like the correct sizes of a trench coat as i wear Medium but sometimes trench coats can be far too large and you end up with a S smaller sizes but again depends as the full length and of the arm sizes too, might be too long or maybe too short on a trench coat... Buying Premium clothes like that it is why i have to make sure i get the correct sizes because sometimes stores wont do no refund if you get the wrong sizes and so on. But we all learn something out of this. Take care Suitcafe will check your videos along the way.
@@kingspizzer46 hi the reason for 115cm is that the belts can be cut to any size by removing the buckles. If you cannot do it yourself go to a shoemaker. When i gad my shops in NYC. I would always ask manufacturers of Italian belts if they could make one long size with a removable buckle. I would buy all belts at 130cm, this way I could fit any customer to any belt. Stay in touch.

Well its strange ive tried different brand belts.. Gucci... Hermes belt. I get a 110cm belt on Gucci.. Ok fits perfectly. But then a 110inch HERMES belt is a little too small by a few tiny inch or so... This means i end up having to get the 115inch belt from Hermes belt. So why not 110inch like it fits me with GUCCI ? if a 110cm belt is the same length on any brand obviously been a 110inch sizes.. then why is HERMES seems slightly too short on 110inches considering GUCCI 110inches fits me perfectly. But not a 110in HERMES BELT. So what is going on there ? Why is there misleading information with the sizes on belts ?
Thats what i dont get it. Gucci belt with a HERMES belt side by side both 110inch lengh.. Gucci belt fits me but strangely HERMES is alittle too short. So if both are same lengh.. Then how come HERMES belt is slightly short when i wear it? What is it that is making it short ? If you are a 110inch sizes.. then why is HERMES belt not fitting me ? Considering the GUCCI belt 110inch fits me perfectly. Theres some strange about the belts and lenth i really dont get it. Its confusing...
I already brought the belts... hermes.. Gucci.. AND i compared.. when i compare i put them beside them to see the lengh.. Strange enough Gucci belt fits me OK.. maybe not 99% but then HERMES belt at the same lenth 110inch will be some what too short . But... Hermes is the same lengh as the gucci. How could this be posible that one is slightly short while the other its OK ? this is why reghardless which brand of belts we are thinking sometimes manufactory dont give correct acuracy sizes or i dont no... But its strange i keep trying to buy between a 110inch belts with a mix of 115inch belt.
And like i said if i buy a hermes belt at 115inches it fits me ok maybe a tiny bit long but fits well. But with Gucci i have to get a 110iunches instead because a 115inch gucci is consider too long for me. So its strange. Maybe each brand has its own speficied lengh which means not all belts are equal ? Or maybe because im pressing the belts far too tight since at times i eat more then other times :)
@michelle manzanero I think the issue is how each company measures their belts, where they start from. It sounds like Hermes is taking a measurement of 110cm including the entire belt buckle, not only the leather. Gucci seems to measure only the leather piece and not include the buckle. May be a difference in the Italian vs French way to size. Even clothing sizes in France is very different from the rest of the EU which is more like Italy. As a suggestion, line up the belt holes of the two belts and see if there is any leather or buckle left over at one end. Also measure from the middle hole of each belt to the edge of the buckle not including the buckle and see if you get to 110cm. Please get back to me after you do this I am very curious to know.

But there maybe one company measures the belt with the buckle while other company's measure it the leather belt itself. It can be confusing by a few small inches but ill let you know.
@@kingspizzer46 Correct different companies may include the buckle in the measurement. In an y event, when you measure for yourself , measure from the middle hole on one end to the end of the leather on the other and that is the belt size. This way you have overlap of 2 holes on either side and that will give you the correct fashion look when the belt is on your trousers.
