Personally I don’t think Todd was jealous. Todd was confused seeing the activity on the monitor and the empty chair. His kitty brain was having trouble reconciling the two. “What” “Cuddles” “Help” “No”
I think Todd is doing something even more stunning. I think he is learning that the images on your computer screen are representative of reality. He is thinking about seeing YOU cuddling PAULIE, and bringing it up later because he wants to talk about/think about how what he saw on the screen relates to something real that could happen in life, that is meaningful to him, but that he did not himself witness. This is really sophisticated thought. Preschool-age humans struggle with figuring out what images on a screen mean, how they relate to reality (for that and other reasons, it's a good idea NOT to let young children watch screens much, if at all, and to limit screen time for ANY developing human). Most dogs and cats give up watching screens when they realize the images are not REAL (i.e., they don't have any smell, you can't actually interact with them). Todd may do that also eventually, but right now he is clearly trying to work out what the images mean and how they relate to reality. It's really remarkable to see his cognition at work. *****In the second sequence, he did not mention Paulie. "Help no pets pets all-done"--might have just meant he did not want your pets to be all-done for him, right then. He wanted more pets, in other words. "No pets all-done" may just mean don't stop petting me; don't let the pets be all-done. "Help" could be just a request for a service (pettings). The fact that he chased Paulie off right before that may mean he wanted pettings and didn't want to share, for sure, and it may well be that he is still thinking about the Paulie petting video, but that would be more clear if he had said "no Paulie pets" or "no pets Paulie" or otherwise included Paulie's name there. Either way, fascinating footage, especially the first sequence!
I wondered if it was more that there were “no pets” where he was seeing them pictured on the screen (that notable look to the chair), and he was trying to figure out how they were on the screen: if they were already “all done.” I’m curious how Todd reacts when he sees you edit his own videos on the monitors that he does know are “all done” and can remember happening…
It's funny because when I originally watched the video of you editing the "Traitor, I mean Dad, Petting Paulie" 😂 video I'd noticed when you said "Cuddles? Oh well when Paulie comes up I will give him more cuddles" Todd's ears went back and he did NOT look happy. From 2:36 to 2:50 he looks as if he was thinking "NOOOOOOO!!! I want no more cuddles for Paulie. NO cuddles for Paulie! Only cuddles for Todd!" Lol
One suggestion... I think "noise" is a perfect opportunity to model "inside" and "outside". Todd seemed really affected by "outside noise" back in July; here he is hearing "inside noise". When the buttons were introduced, that was my first thought, and now seeing this, I thought I would offer the suggestion :)
This is Teenage Todd working through his teenage angst about a sibling. Like any teen it has to be gone through. I love how Dad shows love to all three cats and tries to explain to Todd. None of the cats will go without pets and cuddles from Dad. Some Feliway might be helpful though, just whilst the teenage angst is in play. 😻❤️😻
Awe, it is unnerving to hear your pet voice these concerns but I assure you, all siblings have jealousy from time to time. For my part with pets, I don't cave into their wants. They need to understand that the sibling is family. I'm glad you told Todd that you loved all of them. I would repeat that messaging often and gradually continue to show affection for the others, even in front of Todd so it becomes normalized. Paulie may not even want affection, but bless him, I think he needs it most of all...❤❤❤
Todd has spent several days with this on his mind, he looked at the chair after the monitor so was he asking, is it all done? But he said Help and No, and All Done, so I think he wanted to say either don't do it again or how did you do it in the monitor but you are not in the chair! Perhaps this confused Todd, so he said Help? He likes to understand things, and he didn't understand that, so I think he asked for help to get it clear in his head. Bless his heart.❤❤❤
@@eh1702 I wonder if Todd has the word "yesterday" or something that means 'days ago' on his sound-board? If he did, that scene could have been explained as pets from the other day or in the past. He might have been asking when it happened. They could have pointed to the screen and said it happened in the past.
@@cacatr4495 Yes, Bili the cat used to use morning, afternoon evening, but also “before”. I think Todd has some time buttons. But if you think about the concepts: Todd will have seen TV, he’ll have seen ads repeat exactly (like catfood ads!) He will have seen cartoons, maybe. He’ll have seen the family sit calmly while humans run around screaming. But suddenly now there’s Dad and Paulie on a screen, snuggling - and behind Todd is the very chair where they were cuddling! And it’s empty!!! We are so used to these distinctions between live and recorded, fact and fiction, and having total strangers in our living room sometimes acting out fiction, sometimes documentary. Todd seemed ro be working it out there and then, when he turned and started at the empty chair.
Aww, I think we all want Todd love everybody! Three beautiful, adorable cats - wish they could always get along, like they did for Thanksgiving dinner. Btw, “Dad,” my “Chronicles of Todd” calendar arrived yesterday and I LOVE IT! Great job! I think February Todd is my favorite, but there’s not a bad pic in the calendar. I’ll be a customer for as long as you care to keep making the calendars. 😺
I just caught up and watched this video. It made me so sad for Todd, for you Dad, for Paulie--no matter how hard you all try to love each other there are always insecurities that are very hard to get past. I want this to be a world where every body and every thing gets along, sometimes even loves each other. It is not but it is our very difficult job to keep trying anyway--To Fix The World! So keep trying to get Todd to Not feel insecurity around you Dad cuddling Paulie. It is a long haul but keep at it anyway! Some progress will be made, not perfection but progress. I know from experience with my own Cats a very long time ago in the past.
Cats see at a much higher frame rate than we do. Video doesn't look like it does to us. It looks like flickering lights, especially on a computer monitor. The frame rate is too slow for them to be able to pick out individual cats or people.
I love how Dad took the time to talk to Todd about Paulie; a lot of parents could learn a thing or two from watching the interactions between Todd and himself.
A white ago Dad explained Paulie is more a Mom's cat, just like Tod is a Dad's cat. So besides the attention sweet Paulie gets obviously from Dad, he gets a lot of affection from the Mom. (Unfortunately we don't get to see that, but I assume Mom does not want to appear on cam, fair enough.) ❤ Marloes
If this is what he meant (which it might be!), I am very happy that your response was to offer him the compromise of not cuddling Paulie _in front of him_ and not telling him you would stop doing it altogether while planning to do it 'behind his back'. And having this talk to Todd about how you love him, and you also love Glamour, _and_ Paulie, _and_ Mom. That you love everyone. I think it is too easy and tempting sometimes to lie to others, especially pets and children, in order to reassure and comfort them, but imagine what it would do to Todd's trust if you had told him you would never cuddle Paulie again, and did not love Paulie, you _only_ love Todd... and then he accidentally found you cuddling Paulie again. I really appreciate you being honest with him even when it's difficult and serious. I really think that is a reason why your bond is so strong, because he knows he can trust you. (I don't consider you trying to explain work trips as you going out to hunt food as lying, because in essence that is what you're doing, and there isn't a good way to explain what 'work' is in a way that would make sense. Although I do wonder if a working dog, such as a service or explosive sniffing dog who _do_ have 'work' time and 'off work' time might be able to understand 'work' better? I know you also do work at home, though, so telling Todd you do 'work' outside still wouldn't really explain the difference. :/)
Yep, Todd looked at that recliner and thought: right there, that's where it happened. Todd just wants his cuddles too! I think he needs help getting you to understand Todd needs the most cuddles!!!
Ahhh sibling rivalry…. You know it’s like kids when you bring a new baby home. “No, I’m supposed to be the baby! They’re taking ALL my attention and ALL my good toys!” Todd may not have processed and moved on to accepting that there’s enough for all of them to share from Dad. He can’t believe you cheated on him, and will keep worrying about it. I think showing him that it’s okay, you can cuddle him AND then Paulie and him again until he accepts it and knows it’ll be ok. I think it’s good he asks you for help with his feelings, just like he does with physical problems bugging him. I wonder if sometimes when he mentions toys for Paulie and Glamour if he’s wanting to ask if you played with them without him? Poor Paulie though probably doesn’t understand, finally trusting Todd and now getting chased away randomly.
Several of us commented back then that Todd might be jealous of the attention you were giving Paulie. Todd is wonderful but not perfect. He is altruistic to a certain extent but perhaps not beyond. After all Paulie is another male cat even if they are both neutered. And there is a pecking order among cats, even cats who get along. All that would be hard to explain to Todd since for him it would be natural cat behavior to be dominant even when humans don't like it. I know you love them all and I hope you got Todd to understand just a little bit even if only just to please you his human Dad. I have not yet seen this video and I looking forward to seeing what happens. Good luck.
That original video was from about a week ago, you might check the recent videos for it. I wonder how it alters things that Todd was the last cat adopted, that Paulie was already in the family when Todd, as a kitten, came on the scene?
@@cacatr4495 I wrote my comment before the video was actually posted but when I saw the notification that it would be posted in so many hours. If you check the comment thread you will see a comment I made After the video was posted and I had a chance to view it later that day. You ask an interesting question: "I wonder how it alters things that Todd was the last cat adopted, that Paulie was already in the family when Todd, as a kitten, came on the scene?" Has Todd felt the need to assert dominance simply because he is the last to enter the family? I think this is where a cat's individual personality comes into play as well as Todd's position in the biological pecking order of Cats. Also, Cats may be changing in such things, evolving slowly--such as what used to be their accepted sense of their pecking order. Possibly? Human maybe also?Interesting to observe over time and see.
What popped into my head was a childhood memory of a scene from Peter Pan when Tinker Bell got angry with Peter when he was paying attention to Wendy. Tinker Bell got extremely jealous !! I remember she had a special name for her nemesis: "Wendy Bird" 😂 Yes, a cat's jealousy is strong and nearly killed me because I got into the middle of a jealous cat fight and almost died of Cat Scratch Fever. Their jealousy can be deadly ! Especially for the other cat !
He may mean no pets and cuddles for Paulie when Todd is right behind you. He looked confused seeing on the video but you and Paulie were no in front of the chair. He could be jealous. So fun trying to see his mind work. 😀
Some cats enjoy having interaction with selected other cats, but some really don't! I've always envied those with a (relatively) peaceful multicat household. My current cat absolutely hates other cats, sadly.
Oho, I knew it! He's been stewing on that one all week - cat jealousy is a thing! I had a feral who tamed herself to me - and one of the signs that she wanted to be my pet was her getting VERY interested in what went on between me and my (temporarily) inside cat, and then showing signs of jealousy/pick me-pick me afterwards. Like some other commenters here I think possibly Todd is jealous of the video scene more than anything - that Paulie might be getting all the one-on-one and enrichment time with you too? He could be saying "No All Done" to that - Todd is the only intellectual here who has special chats with Dad! And he wants it to stay that way, lol.

So cute! ❤ I got my adorable calendar yesterday! 😃 My favorite is the drawing of Todd! He is soooo huggable and cute! My Eli was super sweet and knew about 10 or more words, I think. He did a lot of cute things reminding me a little of Todd’s mannerisms. I didn’t have the mat to teach him, but repeated words. Anyway, just had the thought to mention him. Todd , Paulie, and Glimmer are so fluffy, smart and cute! ❤️❤️❤️
I'm sorry you had to say goodbye to your Eli. (Hugs) I still miss my girl ,(Alley) even though it's been 4 years. It was in Dec, I had to let her go. I'm sure they are chattering at birds and purring up a storm where they are. 😻😻

My sister's cat Snow didn't know how to be a cat & learned how to be a cat from watching mine, Kai. She only reacted to catnip after seeing Kai react, & started sleeping on our hair after seeing/hearing Kai yowl w/ pleasure & knead my hair (she acted like a person digging their toes into the sand at a beach). Snow always seemed to be jealous whenever Kai got attention, esp w/ petting, & would demand attention for herself. She can be a bit of a bully; loved to lick my cat's face & ears, but often finishing w/ nipping Kai's ears for whatever reason, and ractically never let my cat lick her. We lost Kai on the night of Dec 6th, whom we think she had at least 1 stroke a few days before & seizures on the last night. I don't think Snow will mind being the only kitty, & she might even prefer it; less competition for attention, as she often got the "jellies."
Todd thinking like a toddler. I've two young grandkids the youngest has autism due to several issues, she doesn't like when I cuddle with her older brother unless she has my other arm wrapped around her as well. Hopefully Todd will get past this minor jealousy and be willing to share your time with the other two fluffies.
Hi. I love your connection with Todd. It is amazing how he truly understands and talks with you. You don't want to upset him and are willing not to show love to others in front of him. In this however I don't agree because it can reinforce to him it's ok to be mad at it and mebe escalate. But how to support more acceptance from him while respecting his feelings? Good luck with their evolving bond.
I am hoping it is a temporary thong while I work with him. Just a year ago, he wouldn't let Paulie come upstairs, and now he asks to play with him. I think he understood the jist of what I was saying yesterday when the video was recorded. As today, when Paulie came up, he asked me to give him food. I am going to keep reinforcing that I can and do love everyone, and I think he will come around.
When he looked at the chair, it was as if he was thinking, “There. Right there is where the betrayal happened.”

I wondered if it was more that there were “no pets” where he was seeing them pictured on the screen (that notable look to the chair), and he was trying to figure out how they were on the screen: if they were already “all done.”
I’m curious how Todd reacts when he sees you edit his own videos on the monitors that he does know are “all done” and can remember happening…
I have 3 German shepherds and I have to say, "Mama luvs all the puppies in the house". It actually works to cut the jealousy.
Ithink Todd will get use to it one day to see pets and cuddles given to another fur baby give it time I loved seeing you cuddling with Paulie
Agree. Great idea.
I think that was already in Dad’s plans, because he did say he was adding them now to prepare in time for fireworks on New Years.
Todd wants to say, “let’s have Pauly for dinner,” but there’s no button for that. Nuts!
2:43 ..Todd’s reaction seems angry ..which I remember thinking, for a brief moment, when I watched it 🤣😂🤣 he wasn’t being sweet at all 🤣🤣🤣😂
Awe, it is unnerving to hear your pet voice these concerns but I assure you, all siblings have jealousy from time to time. For my part with pets, I don't cave into their wants. They need to understand that the sibling is family. I'm glad you told Todd that you loved all of them. I would repeat that messaging often and gradually continue to show affection for the others, even in front of Todd so it becomes normalized. Paulie may not even want affection, but bless him, I think he needs it most of all...❤❤❤
What a face when he's thinking ❤ what a cat 😊
Todd has spent several days with this on his mind, he looked at the chair after the monitor so was he asking, is it all done? But he said Help and No, and All Done, so I think he wanted to say either don't do it again or how did you do it in the monitor but you are not in the chair! Perhaps this confused Todd, so he said Help? He likes to understand things, and he didn't understand that, so I think he asked for help to get it clear in his head. Bless his heart.❤❤❤
Could he have been saying that he realised it was a past episode and not happening now?
@@eh1702
I wonder if Todd has the word "yesterday" or something that means 'days ago' on his sound-board?
Need to have a talk about Paulie deserving pets and cuddles, too. Been there, even with my dogs.
Plenty love for everyone is a lesson we all learn sometime.
We will get there. This is best I think for now and work up to doing it with him there again. Paulie will not go without cuddles or attention.
Awe tell Todd that dad has enough cuddles for everyone. 😊
Nobody's perfect, and that includes Todd. But he's still amazing and lovable ❤
Thank you so much for getting the calendar, and I'm glad you like it. I appreciate your support.
This communication was beyond amazing! 😮❤️🇨🇦
Todd all done with Paulie.
The art of manipulation in the situation! Lol so smart!
Thats exactly what he is saying 😮🎉
I like how you jumped straight into "Downstairs noise" to both reassure Todd and demonstrate how those two words work together in cat terms.
I love watching Todd. He has a great memory! They "look" at the computer screens...my cats watch cat tv on you tube.
It makes sense that Todd's a regular viewer. But it's funny that he wants to watch the videos before they're posted!
He's a cat. It goes without saying that he thinks he's entitled to preferential treatment.
Cats see at a much higher frame rate than we do. Video doesn't look like it does to us. It looks like flickering lights, especially on a computer monitor. The frame rate is too slow for them to be able to pick out individual cats or people.
Mr. Todd, don’t be jealous; we’ll think you are spoiled.🥰🥰🥰🥰
Jealous little guy, huh?😂
Dad want Todd. Love everybody ❤️
I love how Dad took the time to talk to Todd about Paulie; a lot of parents could learn a thing or two from watching the interactions between Todd and himself.
He doesn't want you to cuddle Paulie. I think we have a little jealously going on. Bless his heart!
poor Paulie. I hope he gets some good attention from Dad!
Nothing will be withheld from Paulie.
@MarloesDriessens from what I remember, Mom has trouble getting up the stairs, so it's not that she doesn't want to be on camera.
@@w1975b okay thanks for telling me. I just assumed she does not like to be on cam. Which I totally understand. But I'm sorry if I misunderstood.
It seems to me that Todd and Paulie have a little sibling rivalry going on here.
😅
I think it was the realization that I cuddled Paulie when Todd was not around to monitor it. Lol
I’ve been there. So normal jealousy is a thing of pets.❤️😻but adorable 🥰 though.
Todd has 59 word buttons? So he has a bigger vocabulary than many people living in my country (Britain) today!
Haha!
Oh, I just love Todd! And Paulie and Glamor.
Me too! 😻😻😻
Todd just wants as much as possible time with his Dad. he just loves you so much!
What a good cat dad. 😊
Yep, Todd looked at that recliner and thought: right there, that's where it happened. Todd just wants his cuddles too! I think he needs help getting you to understand Todd needs the most cuddles!!!
Todd does love his cuddles & his Dad!!!! ❤😂
Hi Dad and Todd. Todd knows so much. So smart. Too cute. Love you.
Wonderful episode! Thank you all. ❤😊
Dad has love for everyone 😻😻😻
All your kitties are so beautiful, thank you for sharing them with us!!😊😊
Ahhh sibling rivalry…. You know it’s like kids when you bring a new baby home. “No, I’m supposed to be the baby! They’re taking ALL my attention and ALL my good toys!”
Todd may not have processed and moved on to accepting that there’s enough for all of them to share from Dad.
Todd seems to have accepted and understood what I said. This morning he asked me to give Paulie some food. So we are on the right track, I think.
Actually it would be brilliant to have a film showing his language development. The whole story.😊
What popped into my head was a childhood memory of a scene from Peter Pan when Tinker Bell got angry with Peter when he was paying attention to Wendy.
Tinker Bell got extremely jealous !!
I remember she had a special name for her nemesis: "Wendy Bird"
😂
Yes, a cat's jealousy is strong and nearly killed me because I got into the middle of a jealous cat fight and almost died of Cat Scratch Fever.
Their jealousy can be deadly !
Especially for the other cat !
Still stewing about it a week later..... man!
Paulie gone tell Todd that you be petting and cuddling him anyway...
"You traitor you".
Todd.
He may mean no pets and cuddles for Paulie when Todd is right behind you. He looked confused seeing on the video but you and Paulie were no in front of the chair. He could be jealous. So fun trying to see his mind work. 😀
So this makes me wonder if having more than one cat is a bad thing, because of jealousy. Crazy how cats feel the same things we do!
I think he wants you to pet and cuddle Paulie where he can see it, and not " behind his back" as it were.
Good point.
The help no pets all done came a day after I tried petting and cuddling him with Todd in the room.
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks ohhhh😬😶my misunderstanding, I thought it was after he saw the vid! Welp, I guess there is Mom to cuddle Paulie? Or maybe explaining that even tho you give cuddles to Paulie, Todd is special? I'm glad he told you instead of holding a grudge! That's actually impressive for a cat!🥲
That's very helpful context! @@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks
I had a cat that was clearly jealous when I spent time with another cat.
So cute! ❤ I got my adorable calendar yesterday! 😃 My favorite is the drawing of Todd! He is soooo huggable and cute! My Eli was super sweet and knew about 10 or more words, I think. He was black and white Tuxedo, not so fluffy, just shorthair but full, but last year passed. I miss him very very much! He was quite old.
I'm sorry for the loss of your Eli. I'm glad you are enjoying the calendar.
“Dad won’t pet Paulie blah blah blah” Dad won’t cuddle Paulie blah blah blah”
And in his blissful ignorance, Todd accepts apology and is very happy 😂
Yup, he’s pretty clear there! Dad?! 😂😂oh Todd, you are #1 buddie.
No! 🤣 You can't pamper his every whim! That's not good parenting
I thought that when the first vid was out.... but then just went with the flow. He sure had that "miss hit" expression face there. - Lets hope that Todd gets over this incident, and can start to be friends with Paulie again. ❤❤❤❤
I think they will. Todd has already asked me to give Paulie food.
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks ❤ Sounds good!
I'm sorry for the loss of your Kia
No dad. There is to be NO cuddling or petting Paulie ever dad. You're my dad. Paulie can go to mom.
Jealousy is hard for anyone to deal with I think best to just keep letting Todd know you love him even if you pet Paulie.
Todd did "hang-glider ears" so he was definitely displeased about something.. 😅
Todd respects and watches out for Gracie, but he is the alpha to Paulie and heaven forbid you give Paulie something Todd doesn’t also get. LOL!❤
Todd is so amazing!
This one's breaking my heart. 😢
Your videos always make my day even when im having a bad one keep it up❤
Todd thinking like a toddler.
I've two young grandkids the youngest has autism due to several issues, she doesn't like when I cuddle with her older brother unless she has my other arm wrapped around her as well. Hopefully Todd will get past this minor jealousy and be willing to share your time with the other two fluffies.
Todd seems to have accepted and understood what I said. This morning he asked me to give Paulie some food. So we are on the right track, I think.
I think Todd wants his own feature length film. Indiana Todd and Pauli is his nemesis😂🎉🤺
That was my take on it. Pure jealousy.
