      ... time to go vegan... 🐽🐮💞

    • @sherilynn1310
      @sherilynn1310 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @dshriver11 I feel the same way. I don't think I'm ready for the logical consequences. Here's the super problem: pets who must eat meat will continue to need a pet food industry. I already know that fish, pigs, some birds, squid and octopi are too smart and I won't eat them anymore. If I become vegan, I will be an unhappy one because there are so many foods that set off my digestive trouble. But I can become vegan. My cats can't become vegan.
      There's a super problematic video circulating concerning the biggest holiday turkey producer. Yet I got to thinking, I watched the most beautiful AI-generated video of kitties courting and dancing.
      th-cam.com/video/jnthqLJYfWk/w-d-xo.html
      I think it's absolutely gorgeous and like Todd helping his Dad in surgery recovery, it is cheering me up at a very, very rough time in my life. And it has to be 100% fake! Those shoes Miss Kitty is wearing, the perfectly tied tie Mr. Kitten wears. 100% fake despite how convincing it is on a visual level. The turkey video could be 100% fake too--made to look like the poor quality of a hidden camera. And made to manipulate public sentiment. I wish I could disbelieve that people could be so cruel.
      My kitties have eaten a lot of turkey based cat food over the years. How can I be aware of sentience in animals, and not change how I buy pet food while I change how I buy human food?
      When I saw your comment I instantly understood that I'm not the only one seeing the implications of Todd's thought processes. I guess the only good thing at this point is that cats are probably a long way from being humane hunters and having concerns about how their food is created. We have time to rethink it all. Temple Grandin gave us a bit of a head start but we can't slack off!

      It seems to be his way - once Todd's said what he intended to, he sits like that and waits for the response. If he's satisfied with Dad's answer, he'll get up with a happy expression and tail straight up, and move towards Dad - if he isn't (or at least if he feels Dad did not understand his question/request properly), he'll stay sitting, looking down to the floor with a scrunched up forehead and ears somewhat back.

      I have noticed that Todd’s pace of button pushing is much, much slower than human speech. We rush too much. Imagine if someone with a naturally relaxed Southern drawl was learning a complicated foreign language like Cantonese or Welsh. Putting together even two words in that language would take a lot of time!

    • @JMA864
      @JMA864 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      @ Not even for a complicated language! I’m on my second European foreign language and that interminable struggle to get words out at the beginning is *SO* painful! But when talking to certain people the words just come more easily-I think it’s because they’re fundamentally more patient and less judgmental.

      it's a cat thing, size unrelated. Upon intended action they stretch to relax and prepare muscles. It's built into them. Their body does not defferentiate between a simple action like pressing a button ot getting into a 30 minute hunting session.

    My cat loves to play with hair ties. One day I came home from work, and the favorite hair tie was gone. I searched for it, and said stuff like "where is the hair tie? Is the hair tie here? ". My cat was very interested. So I asked him "where is the toy? Where is the hair tie?" He took one look at me, and led me straight into the bedroom, where he looked under the bed. I got down beside him and looked. Too dark. Got a flashlight and a digging-cat-toys-out-of-strange-places-stick (also known as a cat wand). Joined him by the bed, shon the light under there, and found kitty litter, dust and one favorite hair tie (now very dusty). Dug it out and showed it to my cat, who lit up in delight. He was a bit worried though and kept looking under the bed, until I showed him there were no more toys under there. Then we played with the hair tie (after dusting it off) ❤ it amazes me, that he knew exactly what I was looking for, and was able to show me. They know more than we think.

      Sweet Todd ❤. Yes, animals DO "know more than we think"!
      The animals we arbitrarily deem as "food" are equally intelligent, if not more so. For instance, pigs have been proven to be smarter than dogs. I wonder if bringing this truth to light will change people's hearts, leading them to realize how morally wrong it is to support the injustice of having innocent animal victims be cruelly exploited and cold-heartedly executed against their will in slaughterhouses... merely to satisfy selfish taste bud pleasure.

      A while ago, my cats were playing on the other side of a large ottoman and when one came out to sit beside me for pets, his collar was missing. I gently played and ruffled his neck asking "Where's your collar, Leo?" a few times. He looked like he was thinking then got down from the couch, went behind the ottoman and came out with the collar in his mouth! He brought it to me so I could put it back on! I couldn't believe it! I had never used the word collar before but I knew he loved to wear it. (All my cats are indoor kitties.) Animals are a lot smarter than we realize, for sure!! This is a fine example of how Nurture and Education can expand ANY Brain and Mind to some degree. Todd was able to see the screen, assess what he was seeing, that being Dad cuddling Paulie, and he knew this was a moment that actually occurred in the Past. But he wanted to be certain, see of Dad would explain, and maybe test if he was still Dad's very favorite. Such a simple yet effective question Todd asked, a Loaded Question no less!
    Todd just keeps expanding his Mind, his Mental Capacity for Thoughts that are deeper and more abstract, amazing, yet I personally am NOT surprised. Animals are not "Simple/Dumb Creatures" and I've seen too many proofs of this!

      I think the reason we often don't understand or see the intelligence of animals is because of the language barrier. So happy these buttons are a way to share language and at least understand dogs and cats better. Maybe he felt slightly jellous and then wanted pets too, dad has enough love and pets for all 3 of you Todd.

      @@yadayadayadan.2687 Yes, maybe Dad can answer as to whether Paulie gets affection like that when the other cats are around to witness it? Or is he usually more skittish and standoffish from Dad if the other cats are the the room? Maybe Todd was witnessing and realizing how Paulie's behavior is different when he (Todd) isn't present.

    It's interesting how some cats can see what's happening on screens, and some can't.
    I remember Billi saying she missed her Dad while he was away, so Kendra tried to show her a video of Dad, but she didn't seem to understand what was on the screen.

      I used to think my cat was one of those who didn't have interest in screens. He'd react when he heard the sound of birds or cats from videos on my phone, but always look *behind* the phone when I tried to show him. 😅 He acted like he couldn't see it. Then I decided to experiment. After turning the brightness all the way up to max and setting the phone further back, at least a foot, *then* he finally reacted and could see it. He also now reacts to TV screens, but only if there's a bird or a cat on the screen.

    DAD silly, Todd smart! I have found that not every cat can see a tv screen properly. I had one cat that was entranced by a nature show that used a mobile camera disguised as a rock to film lions. She loved that. She would leave during commercials and come back and stare when the lions were on screen.

    I noticed Todd’s acquired skills weeks ago. When you taught to use the buttons you opened a whole level of intelligence. While the other kittens remain at there primal state. Can you imagine when all pets learn to reason. Todd is a pioneer.

    • @Bluestonezee
      @Bluestonezee หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      All we know is that the other cats do not use the buttons the way Todd does. It’s possible they have sophisticated mental processes but simply aren’t as interested in communication with humans.
      Todd is special because he is essentially learning a foreign language to connect with his human companion. Most cats are able to understand human vocal cues, but respond only when they want to, with body language or meows (sort of how we might attempt to communicate with a Deaf person with simple miming gestures).
      I really believe a lot of cats get annoyed when humans rush around, ignore cat etiquette, don’t pay attention to subtle cat “language” and generally act like cats are objects rather than individuals. It’s reasonable to assume most cats see no point in trying to communicate with boorish, impatient and unpredictable humans, and end up interacting only for food and cuddles.
