Mine have figured out the Bacon Cheeseburger theory. Which is to say they want their Temptations put in their food bowl on top of their kibble. Like putting bacon on a cheeseburger, it is apparently greater than the sum of its parts.
That is absolutely Todd learning the meaning(s) of each word, and applying them in combination to make you aware of what is going on in his world. Thank you for continuing to share these videos and experiences. It feels like I am almost there as part of the family too :)
Yes, the board is very important to him. He knows he can tell me his wants and needs and knows if he can express any problems, I will help him with them (scared over fireworks, he doesn't feel well, another cat is hurting, etc)
Animals are a lot smarter than many humans give them credit for and Todd is exceptionally intelligent! He knows what buttons to push to get his point across.
Even psychologists are catching up to the fact that dogs and cats can process and understand many words. And now with buttons like these we're learning that they can actually express concepts, when given the opportunity.
Upset and mad are both words used in an emotional spectrum of words, its amazing how todd could also teach us about how we humans got our words established.❤
When I first start watching Todd I was like no way but the longer I watched the more I am convinced Todd is one smart cat and definitely his communication skills are incredible.
Anyone who has had pets knows they understand far more than they're given credit for. Anyone who has sat quietky and observed the animals around them for any length of time also knows how much more intelligent and caring they can be. I once watched crow parents who lost their babies in extreme heat return to the nest repeatedly and make mournful calls for almost two weeks. It was heartbreaking.
After seeing Todd express himself in different ways, I definitely believe he understood the concepts behind what he was trying to say in both of these instances. So smart!
I believe that Todd understands you, I believe it with all animals in the right circumstances. Todd is exceptional because you talk directly to him often and he adores and trusts you.
For sure he understands and knows how to express himself.. he is very smart and it’s so good knowing that he can tell what it’s going on with him.. one more time, thank you for sharing Todd, Glamour and Paulie with us.. 🙏🙏☮️🐾🖤🐈⬛❤️💟💜💗🥰
Todd clearly likes his buttons. When you add new words, he is right there!! His behavior shows an excitement with having something "new". (My cat loves inspecting new items that come in packages. I had thought he was looking for food treats. In fact, it is ANY package. I still don't know if it the different smells he likes or if he just is curious or if he really still hopes that every package has a treat in it......I need buttons so he could tell me the "why"!!!)
I think Todd is very clever and can very clearly articulate what message he’s trying to get across. He’s so smart! Sometimes it’s just a matter of reviewing some footage. Lol. Otherwise, you’re extremely tuned into what he’s trying to tell you. You make a great team!
Hopefully we'll be able to see that the next time Glamour swats Todd w/ the new camera angle on the kitty beds, because I'm sure it'll happen again. I'll bet there are those who are naysayers abt the Ouch Sleep bit because there was no footage of it, so that can be added in in a future video.
He's been showing ever-expanding grasp and mastery over more complex concepts daily, I'd say. He's becoming more clear with his sophistication in expression too. For disbelievers, I'd suggest this analogy. A Human who was neglected during formative years and has stunted language skills usually cannot develop complex speech, yet they also have complex thoughts, intelligence, and Human Cognition. If they have to express something they have only simple words for, then they will still try to express and usually can be understood nonetheless. In Todd or any Cat or Dog's case with talking buttons, Imagine them as a Human who has great intelligence but a language barrier, made a little more difficult because they developed their own language [termed Idioglossia Scientifically] to name the things and concerts in their world. Now that they are being taught English, they have to translate their native language in their heads and into English. This expression will sound very simple, yet it's truly complex, with intelligent thought behind it. It is up to the listener to recognize that the simple words used are not actually simple at all. I know a lot of people cannot accept that Animals are as intelligent and able to think as we who are observing Todd or Buffy [the talking Dog on SM] and love them are able to recognize... I have great compassion for these people. They are limiting their world, their LIVEs with this denial, usually because of guilt for their treatment of animals, thoughts about Animals being lesser beings, or discomfort in trying to adjust and drop programming about this supposed inferiority of Animals compared to Humans. It can be very painful to admit wrongdoing and faulty thinking, yes? So, when we encounter a "Denier" of Animal Capacity to communicate, just let them move along, do not engage with Anger, and do not assume you must convert them to the Right Side of History. Confrontation achieves NOTHING, trust me about this; I am a counselor, and I have to watch HUNDREDS of relationships splinter and break due to confrontations that are hurled back and forth instead of meaningful and thoughtful dialogue. Let them be a they are, and block them if possible... then turn back to Todd and Dad, and enjoy being ahead of the curve. I love these videos of Todd's best moments of 2024! I just adore the Kitties and deeply admire Dad, who's Pet Parent, Teacher, and Scientist all at once!
I like your analogy. The one I like to use to try to explain the way Todd expresses his complex thoughts is I will teach you 65 words (Todd's current word list) of a foreign language then turn you lose in that country. You only have those words and your body language and expressions to communicate. You will sound just like Todd trying to tell me things.
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks Excellent analogy too, Dad! Thank you, I do feel compassion for "non-beleivers" because they make their Minds and Lives so tiny with their extreme doubts, yes? Hope you, Mom, and the Kitties are doing well, and the storm did not make too much of a mess for you!
I have offered and continue to offer it to them, but they are not interested. It is much like humans, how many given the opportunity will commit to the time and effort to learn a foreign language, let alone another species language.
A BIG YES! Todd understands and is a very intelligent kitty. I believe our furry family's are awakening to awareness. Much faster than their human parents. 😂❤
he is amazing how fast he learn and how he is able the form sentences on his own to try to make you understand I think that you communicating to him in sentences helps him to figure a way form his own
Definitely. Some people just want to think of animals as dumber than they are. That whole mankind being above or over the animals thing. An excuse for treating them poorly.
I think he does understand because what happens is a correlation to his word choices in my opinion. I don't see how it could be by chance he picks the right words to the situation just by chance so much. Todd knew better not to sleep in Glamours basket lol but he did anyway 😂. They all are like siblings fighting 😅 Georgia Fan ❤
Absolutely he knows! Those are NOT random button presses in hopes of food. If it was, he’d just pick the closet button and press it out of context over and over.
He has a limited vocabulary so has to use what he has. Billi did this also. She referred to rain as Water Outside. It really impresses me how they do that.
Todd not only makes connections between words and buttons, but he connects them together into concepts. Todd is learning language and using it correctly. It's a little scary ! What else are animals capable of that we have no idea about? They could have a complete other world that they operate in, and we have no idea of it ... OR, does his training create pathways in his brain to enable him to understand and to "speak"??? Like in human babies...
Next steps for Todd... First, teach Todd to type. Then, teach him to spell each word he knows. Next, encourage him to write his first novel! Dad retires rich!! LOL
A book I used to have: The Silent Miaow A manual for kittens, strays and homeless cats, translated from the feline and edited by Paul Gallico, picture story by Suzanne Szasz.
It's funny you say that. He asked to Settle Basket last night, so I put him in his basket, and he moved over and went to sleep in Glamour's basket. I told him "Todd, you're living your life like you pay your vet bills." Lol
I do adore your videos, and discovering Todd's world, but I have to share that I'm growing sadder when I read some comments on Todd's intelligence. Yes, he demonstrates a love for interacting with his dad through the buttons : this is exceptional. Yet, by no means, other animals for not using the buttons are not stupid or lacking the very same intelligence about concepts : it's a choice. And some other animals are pretty good with their buttons, cats, dogs, and I also saw a cow the other day. And instead of advocating for intelligence in all beings, which whom we share this planet, it seems like people only praise "using buttons = real intelligence" ! ... T_T It truly breaks my heart...💔 The mutes, other humans, often deaf at birth, were considered dumbs BECAUSE they lacked the ability to speak. But it was the one who owned speech, who lacked the intelligence to get the real issue. We also should remember how other cultures than Western's are considered by some and despised. I simply wish the world was a better place, a place where all beings are considered... Anyways, love to U all for this new year.❤
I agree, and I try to let everyone know it is a choice. I say it is just like humans, how many will choose to commit to the time and effort it takes to learn a foreign language, let alone another species language.
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks I'm glad to read your point of view. I remember a video where you commented on Glamour and Paulie showing no interest in the buttons... They even might consider that learning a foreign language is of no need since they are taken good care of... ^^ And even more, Todd is acting as a translator some times, as on Glamour's back issues. Have a nice evening and hope you are still recovering well !
I wonder if there is a way to use the buttons to learn how cats communicate with each other. We are teaching them our language…can we use it to learn theirs? You have me thinking!! Well, technically Todd does but you know!!
Todd has to eat fast or Glamour will take it. She's so "spicy" Todd and Paulie are intimidated by her. She's boss! What button is in front of sleep. He presses it but it doesn't work. I have seen him press it several times before pressing sleep.
Cats, dogs, horses are pets. We communicate with them with body language AND words. They have only body language to communicate with us. Just think if every animal had the ability of using words!!!! 😮 It would be impossible to let animals be our food.
"Belly, mad" is by far my favorite from Todd! We say upset stomach, he says belly mad. So flippin adorable! 😻💕
He certainly understands the concepts associated with the words and can apply them in "new" situations.
I can't get over how smart Todd is. He was definitely expressing sophisticated concepts.

I think Todd truly understands the words and their meanings

Look at how small his board is in this video. The amount of verbal growth in 2024 was amazing 😻

He certainly is learning to put concepts into words. His brain cells are interacting ❤

Hi Dad and Todd. Aw. Todd hates when you travel. I know you do too. Todd knows his words and feelings. OMG. So smart.
He sure is a smart cat👍🏼🥰🙋🏼♀️
Todd is very intelligent and, with you as his teacher, has mastered his words. He amazes me when he combines them to express what has happened.
He's also pressing buttons that aren't activating 0:48 purple board; 2:11 red board;
I wonder if they were similar words & he ended up thinking "stuff it, the other button will do"
Todd is a smarty pants.
